Hi Tulsa,

I am coming to Am Worlds in July and will be arriving on the Thursday before things get going. I have a couple of questions:

1. Are the Drillers worth seeing? They are in town that weekend and I wouldn't mind checking that out.

2. Is there an Ultimate scene in Tulsa? Do they have pick up games I could get into?

Thanks for your help and I look forward to seeing Tulsa!

:D

Andrew "Brother Andre" Leach

Thursday nights at Driller games are the best.

Thirsty Thursdays $1 beer night ;)

I have a Kevin Brown autograghed Tulsa Drillers Card ;)

$1 beer is a pretty convincing deal, especially since you can usually get free general admission tickets to games from Reasors or QT

I'm going to pick up 18 poles for Mohawk in a little while. If someone has another pickup, we can grab some baskets at the same time. Two trucks will hold 18 baskets and poles.

If you can help, call me ASAP and we can meet at the warehouse in Tulsa.

More work today at Mohawk, we have 9 more baskets to assemble and some more clean up. For those not wanting to be around any poison ivy, there will be plenty of work on th outside course. Kevin said he would lay out some tee pads today and those need to be prepared.

Thanks to all that came out yesterday, we had guys from OKC, Fayetteville and Bartlesville plus a lot of the locals that always come out to help. We planted 18 holes and they will be ready to play after we finish today. Some really sweet holes, so come out and work a litlle, then check out the holes.

We will aslo be working Monday evening, Tues, Wed at Mohawk so that we can get as much done as possible before Thursday's PDGA inspection. If you can help please come out or contact me and we can send you to the right location for work.

Thanks.

Mar 27 2006, 10:21 AM
Thanks AGAIN to all that came out and work at Mohawk this weekend. We got alot accomplished and it is looking GOOD!

There are 18 baskets in the ground at Mohawk, if you want to go out and try it out, you should follow the first 10 holes on the RED course and then walk over and play holes 1-5 on the BLACK course. We have 2 more holes near the ponds on the BLACK course and then #16, the 700+ foot par 5 is in the ground.

The course is still under construction but if you do go out there to play be aware that there is poison ivy, and ticks out there so be prepared.

Also if you do go try it out, please take a trash bag, because there is tons of unwanted trash on the course.

We will be installing a few baskets each night this week. Hopefully by weeks end we will have all the baskets in on the BLACK course (there will be 3-5 holes that are still far from completion but your traffic will help beat the course down.

By the way on the BLACK course there will be two tees, (The BLACK and the WHITE(short tees) The White course looks like it will be very entertaning also if you don't want to bruise your ego on the 8500+ foot par 64 wooded course.

Thanks Kev for sticking to your guns and staying to work on the courses. I know Ducan was tempting for some quick cash but what you are staying here to work on will be enjoyed for many years to come.

It was a very special experience to play holes at Mohawk, especially for Dave Z. This has been his vision for over 10 years now and he finally realized it yesterday. You should have seen the look on his face.

PRICELESS! :D

THANKS ZOOC!

Mar 27 2006, 11:27 AM
Let me tell you about a few holes out there if you haven't been there.

#10 on the Black course is my favorite hole out there right now. It was measured at 480 feet yesterday. It is a par 4 that has a pond on the right side and two HUGE trees that is gaurding the fairway on the left side. BIG arms will try and go out over the water to avoid the 2 HUGE trees in the fairway, but be careful because it is 350 feet to carry water if you go this way, and your gap to get to the hole is only 20 feet wide.

If you more reasonable you will throw your drive to the 2 huge trees and then throw a right to left (hyzer for righties) to get a putt for a birdie 3.

There will be an occasional 2 on this hole but the Risk-Reward to get it is very high price to pay to try and get a duece. Cuz if your disc gets thirsty, It will be a VERY HARD 5, I could see people making FROSTY the snowmen on this hole alot.

Hole #6 on RedHawk Hole is measured out at 824 feet, a par 5 that has a creek on the entire right side of the hole. The hole goes about 450 feet and then doglegs right. If you can get a drive out around the 400 ft mark, you may be able to cut the corner and make an attempt to get there in 2, but an errarnt shot right will definatly end up in the drink and a BIG SCORE will be in your future. Yesterday when we took a few sample tosses on this hole the average score was 5. There were a few 4's and there were two that would have had atleast an 8 maybe a 12 if they finished.

YOU CAN PLAY BOTH of these holes TODAY if you want. Go out there and check it out. BRING a TRASHBAG! Help clean this track up with us. :D

Mar 27 2006, 01:38 PM

You could play them, but BlackHAWK doesn't have many that connect. 1-5, 8, 10, 16 are in. RedHAWK you could get 10 consecitive holes.

Its still far from ready to play a "round" out there, but a sneak preview is available.

WORD! Did you hear that Billy Lund? Get off your non-working #$*&$! and go pick up some trash! I was pissssssssed when that joker showed up yesterday to play after he skipped out on every work day we have had. There are some folks 2 times his age busting their arses working way to hard out there. The majority of the work force has been the older guys. Which is pretty sad
Why is it I can only count on the older guys to be there to work? Deil, Fraizer, Zimmerman, Wise, The Juby's, Joyle, Norris, Naegle and Bud, Watson, Gregory, Papa Bougher, Doc Morton, FurDog, Wayne, and Gary Nail they have all been out there busting their hump WAY TO HARD.

Thong Le and Conners with their crew at Dovillio, Wagle and a few others. Jerry Stacey and BVA (Brad) have been really kickin #$*&$! too. I've seen Crutch a few times but I still haven't seen Billy Lund out there except when he showed up to play yesterday. Kharma is going to be a #$*&$! when Worlds rolls around ;)

As our preparation-time till Worlds narrows down ; we need to start accumulating a list of Additional Volunteers for the AmWorlds ... Pros -and- Ams alike Club Members or not well need to beef up our body-count local Players and their Family or Friends who would not be competing in July at the AmWorlds Event names , phone numbers , e-mails : all need to be fed into Martin Norris at 918-857-0633 (Volunteers Coordinator) let him know your capabilties -and- which weekdays you could "throw in your help" ...
.
Three Key Areas we'll start to focus on : .
.
Spotters . : each Course will need several of these ; probably the most on the new Layouts at Mohawk
.
Gophers each Course will need 1 or 2 for hauling Water , addl equipment , or other Staff needs

First Aid ... probably 1 per Course especially those of us who have taken a course in First Aid or CPR

Anyone walking that track needs to be picking up trash and throwing sticks and stones to the sides of the fairways... Kev is right... everytime I have been up to work it has been the same old dudes in the AM and the curtain crawlers show up mid day with lunch and discs? Keep in mind half of the folks doing the physical labor are the ones also doing ALL of the Board duties as well. There are NO EXCUSES for people to be doing NOTHING. You want OKLAHOMA (Tulsa / Disc Golf) to be taken seriously and respected you need to step up and start those trends right here at home... RIGHT NOW.

To hear about Mr. Lund is shocking... I did not make it back up on Sunday to see it for myself. As a sponsor of the players and the event I would find it incredibly frustrating to learn that the LOCAL members of Team Twisted and the AM Assault Force were not taking this opportunity to exercise our core values (growth and promotion of Disc Golf)

All that being said I look forward to seeing everyone at the meeting tomorrow... :D

I plan on removing lots of vines today on 3,4,5 on BLACKHAWK as well as clear some of the tees for WHITEHAWK.

It was STRONGLY suggested from the PDGA that the GrandMasters, Seniors, ADV Women, Jrs<19 all play the WHITEHAWK course to avoid having 6 hour rounds. I would agree 1000000% so if some of you guys are playing in those divisions you might want to put some time on those tee areas.

still , some of the same cats jumped in to help out at Haikey we got two Baskets dug up and moved we also got two Tee-signs dug up and re-planted one of em kudos to Thong , Kevin , and Wise

that just leaves us one more Basket (old 13) to dig up and move to the North Woods also , well pull up old tee-sign (5) then those two tee-signs replant in the North Woods also other than that ; # 4 Basket will be dug up and re-planted slightly South
.
them thar North Woods are already in pretty good shape defined fairways already exist there , so lopping and trimming needs should be minimal there are a few downed trees and limbs that we need to hack-up n stack-up
.
other than that , it would be good to chip out -or- grind down a few small staubs left from our trimming in the West Woods no other work needed there
.
so , please show up this Saturday (8th) (from about 9:00am-ish) and lend a hand the more the merrier every extra body helps -and- makes the tasks go oh-so-quickly many thanks in advance

Believe me, I know the hard work that goes on, and the frustruations when you are busting your hump and then you see some guys that said they would be there to help, but they have their "bags and beers" instead of shovels and sweat.

Mini Schedule (http://www.tulsadiscsports.org/schedule.html)

twoputtok
Apr 07 2006, 09:47 AM
The may schedule has not been done yet and will be influenced by the amount of work left to do at the courses.

Sorry for the lack of minis not listed for April and May will be that way also. We still have a lot of work to do and only 13 weeks to complete it.

We need all to come and help. Please give up playing a little and help with the courses. Once Worlds is over we will have new courses and new equipment for all of us to use in the future.

We need volunteers, this can't be completed by the same 5-10 guys every work day that we have. Bring your kids, I'll give them a trash bag and a disc when they are done.

13 weeks people, 13 weeks! :o

and we still need to pour 55 tee pads, install 90 tee signs and finish clearing Mohawk. Now you see my need for requesting all the help we can get.

went out to Haikey at sun-up this morning since Daryl (County Parks) was there , we walked the two North Woods holes again these are going to work out
.
in a previous post , I mentioned hack em -and- stack em about some downed trees and limbs out there that will not be our task
.
one tip about the County Maintenance guys out there : us TDSA volunteers must not carry (or show) any trimming type tools we need to just leave em in our vehicles (for now) for appearances , we need to carry only digging type tools (shovels, rakes, etc.) suffice to say that County over-reacts somewhat and we dont have the same carte blanche situations that we have at Mohawk to trim or cut he assured me that they are going to handle it even removing dead trees and limbs theyll get into that next week (and well view afterwards their results)
.
our work-day efforts will concentrate on re-locating Baskets -and- Tee-signs we need to make sure that Kevin is there when placing the Baskets ( 3 of them . I think ) and tee-signs also small-stump removal in the West Woods dug out or hacked down with enough bodies involved , these tasks may go very quickly indeed and we might find opportunity to play some Golf in the afternoon
.
a lot of the guys that normally help out will be at Am-Doubles in Texas so , any and all other help is needed tell your friends thanks in advance ...

.
... as Dave mentioned , that month has not been "drawn up" yet ... and a lot has to do with the progress of April's work-days ...
.
... slight preview :
Saturday (May 5) ... World's Biggest at Kelly Lane , Sapulpa
Wednesday (May 17) ... MMFMM at McClure
Sat-Sun (May 27-28) ... Norman Pro-Am , Norman,Ok
.
... and probably the return of "weeknight minis" on Tulsa Courses ... Let's get April's projects far enough along to allow some of these Fun rounds ...

This is great....

Just when I think I'm out of it....they pull be back in!!!!

Even though I was sitting here thinking about catching some mid-afternoon zzzzzz's while I was on my vacation.....now I feel like I got to go out and show my puppies where the litter box is. :(

Obviously my ten years of college to major in "City worker 101" has fallen flat when compared to all my DG buddies who spent two years in "Home-eck" floating pie plates at the nearest trash can. :( :D

For the field where the distance contest will be held, will it be wind independent? Meaning that we can move in relation to the wind giving advantageous positioning depending on which way the wind is blowing?

Also, B-Ho needs to watch over his shoulder for this event. I found me the DX Wraith. ;)

With confidence I cannot say the same for singles, my success will depend on my putter. Getting to the green in one shot means diddly if you cannot make the putt. :(

twoputtok

Yes, the distance field will allow for the direction of the wind. The area used to be a polo field complex.

It's not so bad riding off of your woman's fame. My buddies wife is an excellent Adv Womens golfer, 2nd BG AM's 5th at the Womens USDGC, 1st at Mid Nationals, Karen Jaskolka is her name and she should do pretty good at Worlds, I will be caddying for her during the final nine. But my buddy gets to go to all these big tournaments so that she can compete with women on her level, like Nicole Frazer, and your local Twisted Tulsa girl Melissa Stacey. At BG we overheard Juliana tell her husband that "Karen has skills". That gave Karen a really good day even though she got second.

So.....riding your womans fame is not such a bad thing.

Ok, on to more volunteer requests.

We need some guys that have chain saws and some others to pile up what they cut. Nothing big needs cut, just a bunch of small stuff so that the brush hog can groom the fairways and some small stuff around some of the greens.

Kevin or I can show you what needs to be done, just give me a call and we can get you started. This will all be things that can be done next week in the evenings after work to accomodate those that can only volunteer after work.

Please let me know if you can help with is and we can get it set up. Just a few more passes of gathering and clearing old dead wood and a little more brush hogging at Moahwk and it will look fantastic. Dave Z will get his crew in there a few more times to mulch, mow, trim and clean out what we pile up. Then we can move on to tee pads and signs.

14 weeks left, we NEED your help.

... Dave Wise will be at Haikey at 5:00-ish and he knows of what we speak ... basically , the "old 18" tee-sign (now says 7) comes out of the ground > going North toward "old 17" basket location ... Kev will show the exact spot ...
.
... "old 3" Basket (now says 1) comes out of the ground > goes into the back of Brad's truck ...
.
... tee-sign (says 4) comes out of the ground > goes a bit forward (South) ...
.
... ah'll be along at 6:15-ish ... thanks in advance ...

... it'll be a few strokes more getting around that Layout ...
.
... some of the "good ol' help" popped out there Thursday to help us in our tasks ... ;)
.
... and some of the "other good ol' help" took the evening off ... that's all good ... that way , some got a much-deserved break ... really ... everyone has seemed to be throwing in and working and contributing ... there's a "real world" out there : full of Family , Work , and other Commitments ... that's the way it is , and that's the way it should be ... I for one won't begrudge those others ... they're still good players , good members , and good people ...
.
... ok , so now I'll step my weary bones off the ol' soap-box ... :D
.
.
... whut we done did :
.
... Hole 1 ... b rutal ... 911 feet ... a "bigger" "blinder" dog-leg ...
.
... Hole 4 ... shortened up a bit with the tee-box ... now 312 feet ... a little "tunnel"-look to it ... a little gentler after you come away from Holes 1 , 2 , & 3 ...
.
... Hole 7 ... toughened up ... lengthened the tee-area back north along "old 17" fairway ... a nice "framed" look to the Basket 458 feet away ... there's some "shot-stopping" early-wood lurking though ...
.
.
.
... now some of the little d-tails will fall to me as I re-tighten some Baskets -n- Tee-Signs ... trim (very little) some little nagging vines or limbs here-n-there ... get to work on the New Tee-Signs ( it'll take awhile to see them all fixed-up and "fresh-looking" ; but I'll take my time 'n' do 'em right ) ... oh yeah , these New Tee-Signs (by the way) are funded by the AmWorlds Warm-Up this Saturday : which Kevin had the foresight to place on the 2006 Schedule like , Last Winter ... there's another on July 8 ... kinda the same , kinda different ... that'll be Mohawk , with a lot more "hoopla" , Media Circus , Ribbon-Cutting , etc. ... much more on that down the road ...
.
... and (with hotter weather moving in early) , the helpers Thursday were treated to choice of all-they-could-drink and ice-cold Co-Cola Classic and Budweiser ... (when you see Hole 1 , ya may think we 'ad a few too many) ... a big thanks for them showing up and for their efforts :

These are the final changes at Haikey. Hole one is now around 990. Hole two is a very tough wooded shot back in the north woods. Hole 3, also in the north woods, makes hole 2 look easy.

If you are fortunate enough to start on hole 1, by the time you get to #4 you're going to think, "****!, this is not what I remember, let see 3 holes and I'm already up 4." :D

Nope, I didn't forget. But that was last week and this is this week. Last week after Kev got done taking Nicholson's money and Kev spotted him 6 strokes. Nicholson said he wanted to play again. I asked him how many I need to spot him and he told me to FO and that he didn't need any strokes from me and that he would whip me straight up.

Well, after he paid me $5, I think he wished he would have taken the strokes, since I beat him by 7 or 8. :o:D

It was rather funny.

Sorry guys, I thought by now you would know I'm off early on Fridays. I was out cutting the wire screen for Dovillio with Thong Le.

Nicholson - no problem if you want a shot again? Thats fine with me but you had better stay out of the woods this time. :D

Kevin- 1 stroke for every two holes? Make it two for every three and you're on. That shouldn't be a problem for you since I suck as bad as you say. ;)

Maybe we can do this Sunday afternoon or evening, after we get Dovillio done.

No, no ,no. Let's stay on topic here Dave. I think "the viewers" have had enough of the Treat vs. Wise match. Unless maybe we have a smokathon?

Who was that talking about the "Oklahoma Smokathon" or whatever. Some old man (trying not to inadvertantly give away any names) I was talking to at one of the Haikey workdays. I think it was some old tournament name or something?

Yeah thats right, I'm calling you out FurDog!!

To long have I listened to you yap about, "Hey why dont you ever take me up on my challenge?" And all of these phone calls...."When are you coming in?" "when are we going to play?"

The time is upon us.

Well if all you do is keep trying to beat old men to work your way up the ranks, the only thing you will ever be known as is, a World Class Chump. :o

and yes, Andew everyone is tired of our match up, they already kow the outcome before it happens. They would be even less impressed with this match up.

Tell you what, bring $20 and meet me at the black course. I'll give you another lesson. :D

You need to read your rule book also, we all saw that foot fault last night. ;)

WHO HOO Saturday DAILY DOUBLE!

About 9 years ago I pulled off a daily double of Long Drive on #14 at haikey and then later that day won a Long drive at 4-man scramble ball golf event in the same day.

but this weekend may have been my greatest daily double ever. A win at Haikey Warm up and then the big win saturday night at Driller Stadium Bark in the Park night Dog/Owner look-a-like contest.

For all those that have been to Haikey this past weekend and played hole 3 in its current state, it will be cleaned out....that was a big pile of yuk around the basket and it won't be like that for very long

The latest and greatest ratings are out and I would like to congradulate our local ADV players, all 6 of them, that are above the suggested move up mark of 955.

We should change our TDSA club motto to "Land of the Sand"

I guess my real question is, I thought that the Okie Doubles was going to be included in the updated ratings, and was wondering why they aren'?

That's ok Mike, Billy still loves you. :o

I actually consider my rating not going down this update a good thing. Overall I have improved, but this spring when I blew up, it was hiroshima! It was bad....I am going to start calling all my bad rounds Keriakes's.

July cannot come fast enough!
I am hoping I will not have to deny cash this weekend, playing pro and there is a 50% payout scale. Yikes. Wait, I am the TD, what am I doing? D'oh!

No, I am not going to miss Tulsa, I just better not let my wife know if I did good enough to come home with cash and denied it. She would kill me. That is why she is really supportive of my disc golfing. She knows that I can get good enough to actually generate a little income out of it. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

But it will stink turning down cash, but it will feel really good especailly on this course I designed/revamped.

We took a white level course and turned it into a gold course and did not add a terrible amount of length. Just made really narrow fairways with Yellow Rope. Hence the name, Golden George.

Plus, check the preregistered list. I already sent my money. I need another shot against you and Billy.

Don't tell them that Thong! I was going to use him as target practice on Thursday. Little terd gets kicked out of school and still can't work? I'm about ready to kick him around the course.

and his buddy that was with him yesterday is just about as worthless, when it comes to volunteering.

How much you want to bet they are both at Chandler this weekend?

I'm tempted to offer a bounty for everytime they get smacked with a disc. :o

Alright Wise.... IT"S ON NOW!!! . I was just trying to make you feel good that day for all the hard work you've been putting in for the worlds, but since you feel the need to publicize our cash game results....let's do it again!!!!
$20 this time. I'll await your response.

OUT!!!

Well I accepted his challenge and if you noticed Big Dave didn't respond. Why might you ask?

Because he didn't win one dime from me, thats why. I led him through 12 holes then had a blow up but came back to tie him on the final hole. :D

Lets see, in my book, he lost the first match, then called me out for second match and the end result is, I still have his money. :D

Want some more Nicholson? :o
I've got your number. ;)
