just a question Wayne,

Are you planning on compensating all this help? (Yeti, Des, Himing, Mace, JK, Sinclair, etc)

If so where did we budget this???

AND if so what is budgeted for the LOCALS that will have put in 10-50 times as much work?

Look at the picture by the pond that you can see Joyle Deering walking on the bank. After I took the pic, he asked me if I got that big fish that jumped. I didn't think so but look a little closer. :DLooks like I got the hole and the fish.

Whats up Tulsa, greetings from NC. I have a few questions for ya.

How are these courses treating sidearm drivers? I am forced to flick all drives because of a bum knee.

I assume there will be a doubles tourney the weekend before. Will there be age divisons for this. (I got a 918 rated 16 year old who has to pick between me and a 911 rated 12 year old who asked him to play < 16 doubles .

I can't wait to get out there and meet everyone, I have heard nothing but great things from JOE and Boobs.

You want it official, Okay, here it is.

There will be no concrete poured at Mohawk this weekend.
It is impossible to get the equipment into the course, at least until we go a few days without rain. The other thing is, that we need the brush hog and mowers out there before we set most of the forms. If we can get that done sometime next week, then just maybe we can move the pour date up from June 3rd to a date sooner but thats a big maybe. We need Steve King and he will be busy with the Norman Pro am the weekend of May 27th & 28th. So it will more than likely be June 3rd.

While this puts us further behind schedule, we still have the whole month of June to complete Mohawk. To try and pour concrete right now would be a complete and possibly costly ($$) mess for all involved.

Maybe Kevin will reply to this and give a list of things that need to be done. I know there are a few baskets that need to be moved at Mohawk, a couple at Hunter and Dovillio still needs the dirt moved away from the tee pads and moved to holes in the course.

Do we have the stuff to build the bridges out at Mohawk?

May 11 2006, 03:33 PM
HOPEFULLY we will be able to start the bridge construction between 9 and 10...hopefully ZOOC can answer this question...I think we could get a trailer to transport the poles.

We have the skeleton of a bridge for 18 that we need to add to it to make it a little more sturdy.

I'll be back later for more details...gotta goto a meeting

There are defintly some fairways in NC that are so tight they make Mohawk look like an airport runway....But almost ALLLL the courses east of the Mississippi River are much more tighter than here.

ASK CAMarelli about how golf is out there

Let's not forget meetings are SUPPOSED to be PRIVATE... Event details and specifics were SUPPOSED to be PRIVATE...
I must say this is not how this was SUPPOSED to be... If your on the TDSA board or the AM Worlds committee the appropriate place for discussion is in a MEETING or at a WORK DAY. NOT on the discussion board thread where everyone else uses this as an effective tool for event info and communication.

AMEN !!!!
This message board has a PM mode and most personal emails and phone calls are not exposed to public view. Minor disagreements explode to world class nuclear holocausts on public boards!!

ZOOC is going to be out there with the brush hog so we need to go thru the holes and makes sure he has room to get the tractor in some spots.

So we will need small brush cutting equipment, gloves, loppers.

We will also need a few people to start some trenches to ty and get some of the standing water moving out of the fairways in a few spots. So shovels to dig little trenches

We will need some equipment to make the bridge on 18 a little better...we will someone that has some kind of construction expertise, make that bridge more safe and sturdy....

Not sure yet if ZOOC is getting the poles for the bridge between 9-10...but if I find out...we may need a trailer to go pick them up...will know more about this later.

And a few RAKES to fix the tire ruts on some of the firways  Rakes may be helpful cuz I'm hoping that we can find or make some mulch for some areas...that will also be info I find out from zooch

Where can I find more info about the field events? What is the Edge Skill shot challenge? What does the Mini golf and putting contest consist of? Just trying to figure out what I want to sign up for...or not. Thanks

May 12 2006, 03:57 PM
mini golf is a round of disc golf with mini baskets and mini discs
putting is a putting contest that will be a 6 or 9 hole course set up with different stations

EDGE skill shot is a 18 station course where at each station you have a specific way you are supposed to throw your disc at the hole, *backhand, forhand, and so on....You collect points based on if you complete the task at hand....you can find more info on EDGE skill shot at EDGE.com

Sorry, but what a joke.

My guess is that if you look back at the rotation of disc golf courses for the Pro and Am Worlds for the last 10 years, you will probably find at least one course at each of these events had at least one course that had no teepads, and happy world champions were crowned at each event. I dont believe that "natural" teepads will ruin the Worlds by a longshot. If that is the only glitch at the Worlds, the tournament is in superb shape. Personally, I like the "natural" pads. I will also bet that someone will complain about the cement pads. They are too short, too long, not level, too high, bad angle to the hole. We will just have to wait and see how everything plays out.

Jerry Stacy, myself and a couple of boys from Texas played at the red course yesterday. My only suggestion is don't do it on a Sunday unless you know a little Spanish or at least be able to yell Quatro a lot. Plus you'll need to walk ahead and tell all the little ninos to get the he11 off the baskets, they're not playground equipment and they're not your daddy's bar-b-q grill.

We were on the long hole coming back down the creek, after my first new star wraith goes in on the drive, I take my second shot and get it all the way around the corner by the picnic table. Only to have Hector do me a favor and throw it back, but hector doesn't know its a stable disc, so another one in the creek. Thanks Hector!

I calmly explained to him what we were doing and to leave them on the ground next time. He asked how much they cost, when I told him thats another $15 down the drain, he scurried off back to the picnic table. On the up side another group offered us tacos and fajitas and onther group offered us cold drinks. For the most part, all were friendly but we need to educated them when we come through for a round. Once they saw what we were doing they moved their cars, that shoudn't have been on the grass anyhow. We also saw three mosquitos carry away a small dog. :oAnd a few BIG snakes in the creek.

At the earlier round we played at Dovillio, there were guys from OKC and TExas playing the course. ;)

It will take care of its self. So you have to play on dirt at Haikey. It sucks but it's a fact. Accept it.

It wasn't that long ago that Dovillio was to never have tee pads, per Kevin and now it has become one of my favorite courses, I even like it better than McCLure. We may not have concrete for Haikey by the Worlds but look at what has been done in the last year around town.

New baskets at Haikey
New baskets and soon, tee signs for Dovillio
The sweetest new tees in town, again Dovillio.

Two new courses at Mohawk that have only been imagined in dreams for years, have now developed into reality and those courses will have concrete tees. Thats 36 new holes!
When is the last time you remember anything like that happening in town. All of these improvements will be ours to use for years to come.

If Haikey puts a real burr under your saddle, then play your one round there and never go back. There will be no reason to, now with Mohawk, Dovillio and McClure all within just a few minutres from each other and we still have other courses to dream about.

If you want to try and picture that dream of another course in your mind, then drive just south of the 11th and Mingo intersection. That land runs clear out south to I-44 and offers water features and some elevation. A course here would put 5 courses with in 10 minutes from each other. Where else can you go to find that?

The COUNTY is going to PAY FOR IT ALL!!!! Money is not the question...The reason this is happening is becasue the TD of this course didn't get his way on the design and he is planning on doing it HIS way after worlds....

TwoPutt's right, Dovillio's playability factor increased exponentially with the awesome new pads.

I just don't understand the logic for natural tee pads, maybe if that was explained people would understand...

Is the course going to be redesigned after worlds?
Is the county not going to maintain the wooded holes?

I mean, if they are paid for sure seems silly not to take advantage.

My vote - concrete pads at the Creek!

I smell horse crap.

Pretend the PDGA never granted Tulsa the 2006 AM Worlds, today would Dovillio have brand new tee pads? ANSWER IS NO

The only reason we have everything you mentioned is because we are hosting Worlds. So why do we have to slack off at Haikey? Is it because of 1 persons intention to create a different layout after worlds -OR- is it because we do not have the manpower, money, time or whatever to get Haikey properly ready?

If the tee pads are dirt I will accept it because I want to compete in Tulsa Worlds, dirt will not stop me from playing.

You all know, I have always tried to answer any questions you have had about worlds and the staus of various ongoing projects. But, in the instance of Haikey and concrete vs. natural tee pads, I ask a favor of you, let it go. Please.

There will be a time to address that issue after worlds has left town. We can not change the fact that it will be natural tee pads for worlds. It is a fact. Trying to solve the Haikey issue right now at crunch time for worlds will do nothing but harm the event. Please do me that one favor and let it go until August. If you feel you just HAVE to ask about it, then see me personally and not here on the board.

Thanks

Okay to let the cat out of the hat, there was gonna be some teepads either way out at Dovillio (they would not have been these giant launch pads for sure), but there was going to be teepads that could've mysteriously appeared from what a little bird was telling me. It may have been one hole at a time but there would've eventually been pads out there. And they probably would've not been as nice. It was Viva La Concrete Dovillio.

The TD of Haikey has helped me quite a bit since I decided to take on the job of Dovillio and so this is surprising to me that something like this has happened.

I was just want to know a couple of things here.

Why were there only 3 out of the 4 plans turned into the city?

Why were we put under the impression when we moved those holes a few weeks ago that there would be teepads out there?

And why would MC go out there to get poison ivy and get ticks all over for a f-in temp course,(sorry big fella I know how you feel about them darn weeds). why not use across the street where things are always mowed. I know the issues before about there, but that was when we thought it was a permenant course correct. I don't really think for a temp course that there would be that much flow issues over there.

I think Wayne has some explaining to do. But I warn you people, Do Not Be Stupid About This.

This is serious business, and we can handle it with civility and patience.

You Know Who has done a lot for Tulsa Disc Golf. He is a personal friend of mine and I don't want any attacks here. Especially Since He Who Must Not Be Named hasn't posted his response yet.

He could have a perfectly reasonable explanation for all of this.

Give the guy a chance to defend himself before you put him in a coffin.

I know He wouldnt disappoint us.

However, If he has deliberately deceived everyone, with intent to re-design a course of his own. Then that was a very selfish thing to do. Nobody owns these courses, no matter how much we care for them.

But stay cool people. Stay cool.

We are just going to be like a couple of Fonzi's here.

And what is Fonzi like?

That's right, he's cool.

Then you should contact that person directly. He will not respond to it here, nor should any club administrator. This is not the place.

Besides, any response you get to your questions will not resolve the problem. The biggest hurdle right now is the time factor. Too much work left and not enough time. We will get it all done before the event, I assure you. Just be prepared to play one course on natural tee pads.

May 15 2006, 04:44 PM
Screw it! I give up! But before I do lets clear the air.

When we found out that we were getting Worlds, Haikey wasn't in the mix becasue of old equipment and we always had to make changes to the current layout for it to be safe to play during a tournament.

The only way I would agree to take Haikey Creek on for the AM worlds was ONLY IF:
1. We got new baskets and equipment
2. We redesign the course so that we wouldn't have to play different tees than the permanant course.

It was AGREED ON

then since I was "SUPPOSED" to be in charge of courses and course quality, that I would be in charge of making Haikey the challenging course that it has always been. I was very excited to bring this kind of course to you guys. I have played in 10 World Championships, 3 USDGC's and over 250 courses in 2 countries and 31 diferent states. I have seen what it takes and I have the expierience to make a championship course for Tulsa to enjoy for a long long time.

So after spending countless hours and days out there, I came up with a layout. Then after all that work I did out there coming up with a layout, there were 3 DIFFERENT course layouts taken to the county, none of which were mine. There was even a practice day out at Haikey on the proposed layout that Wayne came up with. I remember that day becasue we rec'd tons of dislikes and even a 750 golfer said it was too easy, which is not in the spirit of HAIKEY and never has been.

Finally he came around and with the help of all the voluteers who got tick bites, poison ivy, chiggers we got the course to almost the way I wanted it...I still couldn't get it the way I wanted and what was best for Tulsa, becasue I kept trying to keep Wayne happy so I had to comprimise on a few items. I finally was tired of trying to reason with someone that could be the worst course designer EVER! So I let it end up the way it is now. Of course I was thinking that with tee pads and traffic the course would turn out OK.

The last 2 months we have been waiting for the County crew to go out there and do some more work on some of the new holes. We were even told by Wayne that they didn't want us to do anymore work on the new holes becasue the County would handle it, which was a BIG FAT LIE cuz he was telling them the whole time that the new changes were temporary...when did he know this? MARCH... when did he tell us that this course was only going to be temporary, last tuesday. We have been lied to and betrayed by this guy and why do you ask? Because he didn't like the design and wants to design the course the way he wants. Haven't we had to change EVERY basket he has moved???

It's a sad day when anyone finds out a loved one has any kind of cancer. And today is a sad day because I just came to realize that the Cancer of Wayne has terminally grasped Haikey and we are all about to lose our friend the Big Bad HAIKEY to pitch~n~putt :( :( :( :(

lmao....That's frikin funny Andrew, but it might be best for all of us to simma down.

I'm looking at it like this now: Worlds will play on regardless of Haikeys situation. So what if we are getting screwed out of a championship course and sweet concrete teepads, atleast we still have Worlds in our own backyard.

Your right MC!

its just that I have given up my whole year of playing and at least $5K of winnings. I have given up atleast 4 pints of blood to the briars, ticks, mosquitos. I have upset my beautiful girlfriend Courtney cuz I have been out working at the courses nearly every night. I just wanted to make the event perfect for EVERYONE! And when someone underminds you not once, twice, but over and over again, you get p!$$ed.

I'm p!$$ed for all the others that have wasted their time too!!!

By the way when you all get your PDGA AWARDS ballots....remember to vote for Sharon Jenkins Sportmanship Award, cuz she is a GREAT LADY and for sure wouldn't pull any of the BS that one of our own that is on that list has done.

. I remember that day becasue we rec'd tons of dislikes and even a 750 golfer said it was too easy, which is not in the spirit of HAIKEY and never has been.

...........Haikey and we are all about to lose our friend the Big Bad HAIKEY to pitch~n~putt :( :( :( :(

I thought that pitch-n-putt courses (SSA <49) were not allowed at World Championships?

SSA 49-54 courses are still fairly easy, but could still have a small bit of challenge. It could be a break for the players to have a less challenging course.

I am not taking anyones side, I just want to play on quality courses for a World Championship. And by what I have seen so far via pictures online, Tulsa is doing a great job.

(just an opinon of an outsider).

Easy solution for getting tee pads at Haikey

Pemanent-temporary tee pads: build forms on top of plastic in a driveway. Your tee pad will have to be poured in two sections. In two corners of each section there will be re-bar hoops that stick out of the pad for pulling or lifting with a bobcat etc.

I know a two piece tee pad doesn't sound like the perfect idea but as long as you have your ground packed and graded well it will be relatively seemless.

If the new holes don't become permanent then load the sections up and use them elsewhere.

Steve King and I have talked about doing this at Colonial in Norman in easement areas in case they had to be moved. I think this would be a great solution as long as we're not talking about 9 or more holes.

Think about it guys, IT'S WORLDS

I played all of Blackhawk and the back side of Redhawk this evening. And the mosquitoes were intense. It really adds a whole new element to the course. I went for five or six holes where I had so much trouble focusing on my putt, that I just threw up to the basket instead.

But here is my plan. Keep playing Blackhawk as much as possible, and purchase Ben's 100% DEET Formula (in the orange can a wal-mart*)(*Please Note This Statement Is Not An Endorsement)

And if the DEET isn't enough, I will buy a full head Mosquito net from the Army Surplus.

Look what I found in discussion under "disc weights"

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

force = mass times acceleration. i'll take being hit by a premie any day over getting hit by a driver.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In franchise's case where the options are getting hit by a driver, or getting hit by a driver.....you have to calculate something like "True Cutting Power" instead of force. Lighter discs are easier to get going fast. Heavier discs pack more of a thunk when they strike.

What's safer? A faster cutting edge or a slower thunking device?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The slower Thunking Device is what chopped off my ear at over 425 feet away. Teebirds can be mean!

I have to agree with what someone else mentioned earlier. I am more concerned about everyone playing by the rules. Then I am about a freak accident out on the course. After having my ear chopped of, I am very careful not to throw a disc if anyone is remotely in the way.

June 3rd is the date for the "Take me fishing" sponsored by Zebco. They will be using both of the ponds at Mohawk. If we pour on the 3rd there will have to be someone on the pads at all times around the ponds.

With the Holiday Inn being almost fully booked(only option the now have is one king size bed, which is not an option for me). I was wondering if the good people of Tulsa could tell us visitors which Hotels around the same area we should try or NOT try. What about the Red Roof, Extended Stay or Baymont? I would like to stay close to the Host hotel (walking distance). Any help would be great!

I would recommend the Baymont Inn over the Red Roof Inn, but either would be OK. Keldog makes a good point...the Red Roof is RIGHT next door, and the Baymont is across Yale Ave, which is a pretty busy street. Red Roof would probably be a little more convenient for you.

jose

Travis - the Red Roof Inn could not be any closer to the Holiday Inn. It would be my first choice now it is an economy hotel so do not expect Holiday Inn type amenities but it is the closest. I have actually stayed there one night ( long story) and it was clean. I do not know much about The Baymont but it is across Yale which could be a hard street to cross.

Well, a LOT of work was completed at Mohawk this weekend. Most of the holes you wouldn't recognize because of how much was cleared, mowed and groomed. The course is very playable right now. We still need some clean up on 17 & 18 and we could use a couple of weed eaters just around the tees and baskets where the mowers couldn't get to. We would have finished 17 & 18 but I blew a tire on the bobcat Sunday morning back on 16 tee box. Getting the bobcat trailered and out of the woods was a eye opening experience. :D

Zooc will be out there today getting with the crew to weld all of the baskets for security reasons. Next weekend we will set all of the forms for the black course and get ready for concrete on June 3rd and concrete on the red course for the weekend after or two weeks, depending on weather and how far along we are.

This weekend was a MAJOR move in the right direction. If you haven't been out there, now is the time. Play a little, work a little. Spend a few minutes picking up sticks and logs and enjoy the course.

Thanks to all that came out on Saturday, especially Billy Juby for Mowing all day and thanks to Kelly Watson for mowing on Sunday.

Well, we have run into a little problem with getting the concrete for this project. The city has a contract with Mid-Continent concrete here in Tulsa. The concrete company will not deliver on a Saturday, so with this information we will be pouring on Friday June 2nd.

We need any and all volunteers for that Friday, begining at 8:00am and lasting all day. Even if you don't have experience with concrete, please, please come out and help. There will be pleanty for you to do. We need about 12 guys for this project. So far we have confirmed a list of the following people:

Dave Wise
Kelly Watson
Kevin McCoy
Steve King

With the young ones out of school, we could sure use the help of Justin Bougher, Deven Owens, Randy Forsander.

Please contact me if you can help.

I am very happy to announce to my frisbee flippin friends that a deal has been finalized with the CREEK NATION CASINO in Tulsa. CREEK NATION will provide $10 poker chips and a meal voucher in your players pack...AS WELL AS A LARGE CASH CONTRIBUTION TO THE EVENT. :DsO WHEN YOU GAMBLE IN tulsa REMEMBER we have FRIENDS at CREEK NATION.

MC (Conners, Commish) Landed us buy one get one burgers yesterday and the folks printing your shirts got squeezed for 600 Sharpies... The players pack is looking PHATer than Russell Simmons clothing line. :D

And it's also official the players meeting will be in the donated CLEAR CHANNEL EVENT CENTER... Plenty of room to get the crowd rocking 5 x's harder than Don Dokken for sure.

I'll be in Tulsa today if anybody wants to get a round in after World's orders go out.

Joe,
Where's Creek Nation Casino located at (I DID catch the "in Tulsa" part). I will definitely have to hit them up for some cash game poker, assuming they've got it.

Very nice with the sponsorship. I assure you the next two months will not go by near fast enough.

Big Congrats Joe - I know how hard you have been working for the upcoming Am Worlds and I am really happy for the event and for you that we had such a big sponsorship. THe Clear Channel event center is big time and will give us a much better facitly for the players meeting. Good Job - Joe and Wayne.

I know I will be visiting the new restaurant at The Creek Nation and although I gamble very little if I do it will be at The Creek Nation on riverside.

Good Job MC on the "buy one get one"

ANDREW: HURRY read this and then ORDER..I just got this email from Zonedriven....HURRRRRRRRY TREAT!!!!

Dear ZD Friends,

We have a great opportunity for those of you enrolled in, or who have connections with a college or university. There are a limited supply of DISCatcher Traveler portable targets available for schools, free of charge. These baskets are available to ship immediately and freight charges are all you need cover.

When the Traveler was released, the manufacturer used stitching that Innova deemed inadequate for retail. The entire batch was replaced, leaving them sitting on pallets with no plan. Innova has approved donating them to athletic directors, coaches, fraternities and sororities, etc. Basically any situation where the targets will be used to promote disc golf and not re-sold would likely qualify.

If you are interested in finding out more about this opportunity, please contact me for details.

Regards,

Jonathan Poole
