... alright Guys n Gals whose our journalistic talent out there ?
.
college-guy Treat ? Wammy-Tammy ? Melissa of the Stacye ? Dog of the Fur ? who among us has a knack for the printed word ? who worked on their high-school paper staff ? who can transform interview information into good form and shape for a magazine article ? I know we got some or some Players who know some heres the gig :
.
we need some Preview material for inclusion in the big DGWN issue for this Spring and , just to bring your time-line up to speed ; we need to have that all piped in before March 1 so we need this stuff ; like , NOW for the most part , our section of this issue will be focusing on the around the corner PDGA AmWorlds in Tulsa July 24-29 (almost here) well have some photos from around the Courses fed in from Gary Nail , and we need lots of material for descriptions we need the text to paint our pictures with words let the readers see what they dont see in photos to portray the feel of the Courses , and of Tulsa overall
.
your main source of info. , collaboration , and interview will be Kevin McCoy
.
check out your back issues of DGWN where they preview a big Event and try to grasp the flavor of the upcoming challenges for the reading Player Rothstein obviously has writers on his staff , but has let us know that whatever input that we can work up and feed in could be used as well
.
this upcoming issue should be our Big Hammer the one that sets the tone & color for the World-Class Competition thats about to begin between your own descriptions and getting inputs from McCoy ; youll need to get descriptive about not only our current Courses/Layouts , but also those in the works get all the intriguing details you can to stimulate even more interest than there already is
.
.
get with Kevin get out to the Courses get with your words get with Rothstein
.
 get 'er done

.
.
... by the way : THANKS for all the responses & offers on this gig ... I think it's gonna be Jeff Paul (jaypee) getting busy & getting creative ... hey Jeff , I gave Kev. a copy of your e-mail ... now you'll need to catch him (where you can) and shadow him for info. ... he's got it all up there between his ears ... :D

someone please hook me up on a flight deal from Bristol (tri-Cities airport) to Tulsa...I'll have Wise and Furball pay ya :D

Leaving Thur the 20th anytime / or Fri the 20th anytime, returning Sunday the 30th late as possible or Mon 31st mid morning. I will pay a disc or two for a good deal.

Look into flying out of Knoxville instead of Tri-cities. You can probably get a flight cheaper that way. You'll have to find a good friend to deal with the construction dropping you off and picking you up.

Tried it, hardly a difference. I'd have to drive to Nashville/Charlotte to get a signifigant discount from what I've found. The cheapest so far was $330 or close to that.

Sorry, to all of our local supporters, please keep the Rhett reference posts to the GC thread, since thats the current thread he is watching.

Just to update. Another course of new baskets are being shipped tomorrow to Tulsa. These are destined for Haikey Creek.

All we need to do is get one more check and two more courses delivered and all of the new equipment will be in house. The final two should be ordered within two weeks. With the Haikey baskets coming in, Haikey will be in the new set up for GCD. So if you want to see the layout, make plans to get a prtner and play this event.

I cancelled my trip to AZ tonight... I am so $#%&*in ticked off about it too. Instead of being in SUNNY AZ winning $GRANDS$ I'll be here making sure that Haikey is PERFECT for Green Country Dubs.

We have completed some changes at Haikey today. Holes 9,11,12,13,14 are now where they will be for good. We would have moved more today but no need digging up the baskets twice if we are getting the new ones in next week.

There were 5 people out today to help and I thank all of them GREATLY! I would love to organize a work day this SUNDAY....Maybe Mohawk....I need to clear things with ZOOC, but it would be basically be setting stakes for all the tee pads and flags for the baskets.

Also I am hoping to Install the baskets at Dovillio either this weekend or next.

Just took the full tour of the back 18 at Mohawk. All I can say is you better have your game on if plan on winning worlds.

All of the equipment for these two new course should arrive in about 4 weeks. Until that time comes we will be getting the course ready for play and grooming the holes. When the baskets arrive we should have the course in, with tee pads ready for play shortly there after. ;)

Well I was thinking of running up to Bonner Springs and playing the one-day C-Tier...

But you know, I'm not. I'm not going to go out and have fun while my disc golf brothers work hard for their City, their Club, and Themselves!

I'm not going to profit off of others sacrifices. I am not going to be one more person in the crowd pointing a finger at someone else when it's me that needs to be helping!

I have a dream! That one day, young disc golfers and old disc golfers can live in a nation of unity and prosperity. Where one man can make a difference. Where one man can do something for a great number of others. Where one man can make a stand against (Insert anti-Rhett propaganda).

Come all ye dazed and confused. Come all you weak and weary. Come all you who have been locked out by the landlord and have no other place to go.

Come, and make a difference.

We will be working tomorrow at MOHAWK 9am to 3or so, please come out if you can and help. Loppers, gloves, polesaws, are all needed to help clear the fairways. We should be able to make this course ready for teepads this weekend. The baskets are not that far behind so the quicker we can get the fairways knocked backed the faster we can all enjoy it.

We need hands at Haikey Saturday. We will have an auger but we will still need shovels and picks to get the old baskets out of the ground. We will be out there 9:00am on until we get the baskets in.

We also need a TRAILER or TRUCKS to get all the baskets from Dave Wise's office to the course, any volunteers please call Wise to arrange a time to pick them up.

We should finish the ruff cutting and begin setting the forms for the tee pads. We should be able to have this course finished with another two or three wekends of work out there.

Tomorrow, we need bodies at Haikey. Bring your gloves and muscles. We are installing 12 new baskets and removing the old ones for re-furb. We will be at the course by 9:00am, with the baskets and material to being setting the poles.

Thanks again and thanks to all those that show up tomorrow and Sunday at Mohawk.

All of the old baskets and tee signs were pulled. The new baskets have been installed and most of the clearing work has been done. Now the county crews can come in and brush hog one more time and haul off and chip the wood piles.

The New Haikey will definately test your game as it did years ago, before the new plastic came around and made it easy. Well, NO MORE!

Thanks everyone that came out!

Now, this morning, we will be at Mohawk all day. Bring cutters, loppers, gloves, water and lots of muscle. The Black course has a lot of work to be done before the heavy machinery comes in next week. The Red course only needs tee pads and baskets, other than that it is ready for play.

No, the jump putt is not illegal....as long as you have not jumped before you release the disc. As soon as the disc leaves your hand, (and you are outside 30m), you can jump, or hop, or dance if you want to. That is the way the rule has always been. Just make sure you don't jump before the disc has left your hand....its a very fine line in most cases.

Jump putting is not illegal by any means. Top pros use that shot all the time.

But seriously, how does one really know when a putt is released before a player jumps? Reading the release of the disc while keeping an eye on a persons feet is a tough thing to do. And even if you think you notice the release of the disc after their feet leave the ground how often is someone going to call them out? And for that matter how often will you get another person on the card to agree with you?

Has anyone here ever successfully called out a person on an illegal jump putt?????

" No, the jump putt is not illegal....as long as you have not jumped before you release the disc. As soon as the disc leaves your hand, (and you are outside 30m), you can jump, or hop, or dance if you want to. That is the way the rule has always been. Just make sure you don't jump before the disc has left your hand....its a very fine line in most cases. "

... which most practioners do illegally ... you can't "jump-putt" ... period ...
... you can "crouch-putt" ...
... or "tippy-toe-putt" ...
... or "putt-jump" ...
... or "putt-break-dance" ...
.
... why has there ever been any Players at any time ( and there have been "top names" in our Sport doing this ) "jump-putting" ? ! ? ...
.
... it can't happen ... you can't "jump-putt" ... ever ... you must be in contact with the ground during release of the throw ...

Has anyone here ever successfully called out a person on an illegal jump putt?????

.
.
check that word "jump-putt" ... has to be illegal due to the order of the two verbs involved ...
.
... the only "legal" and "by-the-rules" action is a "putt-jump" ...
.
... self-explanatory ...

Yes, it has been called, but only on those that are blatantly abusing the shot.

There was a suggestion by Nick to start calling it a putt-jump, but it never caught on. :D

Good idea calling it a putt-jump, but I doubt it ever catches on.

It will always be called a jump-putt cuz you are jumping while you are putting errrrr or is it putting while jumping.

ARRRRGGHHHH!

MC, have you ever tried to putt after you jumped? I don't think you gain any advantage by leaving the ground first. The jump-putt is useful because you generate more momentum by increasing the contribution of power from the leg muscles. Once you leave the ground, this contribution is effectively reduced to zero. Anyone who is breaking the rule is not going to get the increase in performance they are seeking.

It's very rare I break out a jump putt.

I saw a dude in Michigan jump then putt one time. He was in the shule and literally jumped out from behind a bush and threw his shot at the basket while he was in the air  myself and the guys on my card were like, HELLOOOOOOOO!!!

I have seen blatant disregard for the rule, as well. Usually used in situations like you mentioned. Fortunately, when it comes to that, it's pretty easy to detect the rules violation. When it comes down to the hair-splitting, at-the-time-of-release-questions, I think that pretty much falls into the domain of "benefit of the doubt" ruling.

I was just suggesting that Twoputt is Ronco's version of the universal tool. His flat head would work great for tamping dirt. The same way it is normally used for holding ashtrays, beer cans, and submarine sandwiches. He comes complete with kneepads, vacumming and chrome polishing abilities, and he's even got a slot on the side of his head for inserting quarters if you want to pimp him out. I think the TDSA should show more appreciation and thank God that he put Twoputt on this earth to service our club and mankind in general.... ;)

Went by Mohawk at lunch and Zooc had the crew working hard. All of the brush piles that the volunteers stacked around the course are now gone and mulched. They have been pushing off all of the large fallen trees and starting to dress up the fairways. Next week they will brush hog and then the club can put the finishing touches to it.

Later this week, they will begin the process to have the forms set for concrete on the Red course, then the week after we will pour pads for the black course, the week after that I would like to see Dovillio poured. At the same time all of that is going on, hopefully we can also be installing baskets and signs.

True that -- cold shower after contact if possible, keeps the pores closed.

MC - I've already told you my trick for the itch/pain... Hair dryer for as long as you can take it - 2-4 inches from the source.

Succeeds in drying the ooze factor and relieves the itch for a good 6 hours (if you don't mind the 2nd degree burns).

Hi Tulsa,

I am coming to Am Worlds in July and will be arriving on the Thursday before things get going. I have a couple of questions:

1. Are the Drillers worth seeing? They are in town that weekend and I wouldn't mind checking that out.

2. Is there an Ultimate scene in Tulsa? Do they have pick up games I could get into?

Thanks for your help and I look forward to seeing Tulsa!

The drillers aren't exactly the best team, but they are cheap and fun to watch. There is a big Ultimate scene in Tulsa, I played Ultimate long before I ever threw a golf disc. As the worlds get closer, keep in touch and I will let you know what pickup games might me going on. There is almost always a game to be found at Zink park.
