This is a nice little course. I gave it 3 out of 5 because it is not that challenging, and the road noise was pretty bad because the park is adjacent to a busy road. The course is pretty well maintained, though it is obvious there are some drainage problems (the course was slightly muddy when I played but it didn’t affect my rounds). The drainage ditch that bisects the course comes into play on several holes and is marked OB, but is not deep enough to need to worry about losing your discs should you throw into it.
This was my first time playing this course, and I played the red (short) tees first, and then the blue tees. Note the hole distances posted for the course are for the blue tees. The red tees are considerably shorter, with most holes playing between 250 and 300 ft.
The red tees have concrete tee boxes for all of the holes which all play as par 3s. As I stated above these holes play very short, and there are several ace runs, particularly on the back nine. The fairways are all well defined, and most baskets can be reached with a straight throw. There is only one long hole (#11) but the drive is across an open field, so you don’t need to be that accurate off the tee to give yourself a chance for par. The red tees are really good for beginners due to the length and not overly challenging pins. I wasn’t playing particularly well this first time through the course but had a bogey free round with a couple birdies. Advanced players should score in the upper 40s to lower 50s from the red tees. Pros could easily score in the lower 40s.
The Blue tees are more challenging, primarily due to the added length to the holes (50-100 extra feet), but also due to the different angles required to get through the fairways on most holes. Only a few holes have concrete tee boxes (11, 12, and 13 at the time I played). The rest of the holes have grass or dirt tees, though a few more holes had tees that were dug out and I imagine will have concrete poured in the near future. Hole 1 plays the longest from the blue tees with a marked distance of 496 ft. It is marked par 4, but a good drive will get you in good range for a short approach and easy birdie try. The rest of the front nine is challenging only because of the distance to the baskets, with holes averaging around 360 ft. The back nine played a little easier to me even though most of the holes were through the woods. The fairways were well defined, and straight drives easily got you through to the baskets. Hole 11 plays the second longest at 466 ft (the other par 4); the tee box is set in the woods, but only about 30 ft in and you essentially throwing across the open field. A big drive and this can be easily birdied as well. I had 1 birdie from the blue tees, and didn’t score anything above 4 on my round. Advanced players should score in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Pros could easily score in the lower 50s.
I had a good time playing here, despite the mosquitoes and humidity. I am looking forward to playing again the next time I am in Beaumont, TX.
