Course Reviews

Franklin Park is somewhat underated IMHO. It has more to offer than just open bombers. There are trees, hazards, water and OB that make this course much more challenging than its reputation as a wholly “open course”.

With 3 tee pads (Red, White, Blue) and two baskets (Yellow, Purple) per hole, the diversity of layouts never gets old. One can play a speed round on the 4481’ Par 54, Red to Yellow layout and get through in a little over an hour. Conversly, play the 9950’ Par 63 Purple Monster, Blue to Purple layout and see just how much you can take. UDisc has lots of layout options to choose from.

Water (pond and creeks) does come into play on a number of holes. Hole 1 has a pond to the left of the Blue basket and those who play the shot wide right can temp the pond. Hole 2 has a creek/ditch lined with cattails. Hole 3 has a ditch that is behind the yellow basket and between the yellow basket and the purple basket. Hole 6 has a drainage ditch that is in play for the purple basket. Hole 12 has a large retention pond that must be carried, but doesn’t always have water in it. Hole 18 has a water carry shot from Blue to Purple and the Blue to Yellow layout has a creek that flows from the pond that comes into play on the left fairway of this layout. The other water carry that locals play is from the pavilion perched above the pond to the purple basket. This is not a long carry but the wind at Franklin always makes this a challenging shot.

As Loudoun County’s only public course, one would think that Franklin has a lot of use, but as other reviewers have said, the course rarely gets crowded. Its so big and spread out, that even on high use days, there is almost never a back up.

Tee signs are due for replacement (fall 2019) which should provide a nice facelift to the old signs that are quite worn. Navigation is pretty easy. Fairways are maintained by the County Park and mowed regularly during the growing season.

I play this course often. Very nice concrete tees. I like that it's not too crowded and get extra practice with throwing extra discs. This course is very challenging on windy days since it's wide open. Be wary on a few holes it's really easy to lose discs in trees or in the underbrush.

I play this course often. It's fun. A little to much in the wide open. The last two holes can be harsh. 17 is through a bunch trees and on 18 you can launch it over the lake and risk losing a disc or play a less challenging basket away from the water.

Mostly wide open with 3 tees and 2 baskets per hole, this course has something for everyone. Good use of elevation and challenging at its longest layout for top pros. Please watch out for other park users and equestrians.
