Close Competition Builds Excitement for Wednesday

It is a hot, muggy day today at Lemon Lake as the 2010 PDGA Pro World Disc Golf Championships’ singles competition gets underway. But the sun isn’t the only thing heating up the course - the players are on fire!

Twenty-nine competitors are within four throws of the lead in Open Men. Paul Ulibarri (AZ) and Jesper Lundmark (Sweden) lead the division of 135 at -11. Defending World Champion, Avery Jenkins (CA), eagles Gold’s Hole #3 putting him in a 5-way tie for second at -10. Liz Carr (MI) has the honors of teeing off first on Hole #1 on the Red Course in Open Women. She leads by two over Sarah Stanhope (SC) and Desiree Reading (TX). The Women’s division is very tight this year as only a few throws separate the entire division from jumping up a place after Wednesday’s play.

Gregg Hosfeld (FL) is headlining the Grandmasters division sitting at -16 with Jim Myers (MD) just one throw back at -15. Tim Keith’s (AL) ace left him within 4 throws of the lead at -12. Kathy Hardyman (CO) has a comfortable 5 throw lead over Sheila Jackson (AR) going into Wednesday.

Dr. Rick Voakes (KY) has a commanding lead in Senior Grandmasters at -14. Snapper Pierson (CA) is in second place at -5. Jerry Robbins Sr (KS) is once again leading the Legends division as defending champion at +3. Bill Ball (SC) is giving him a run for the title at +6. Bill Du Vall (IA) has the first ace in the clubhouse and is at +8.

There’s a battle in the inaugural Senior Legends division between Don Dillon (PA) and Stancil Johnson MD (CA). Only four strokes separate the two competitors as they both have their eye on the title.
