PDGA Throw Green Environmental Grant Application

Objective

The objective of the PDGA Throw Green Environmental Grant program is to encourage and incentivize our members to design and implement ways to create more environmentally sustainable courses and events, and to educate and inform the PDGA membership and others about environmental stewardship. These grants will provide financial assistance for innovative projects that aim to improve and safeguard the natural environments where disc golf is played.  The Professional Disc Golf Association is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit membership organization dedicated to the promotion and sustainable growth of disc golf.

Eligibility

Applications may be submitted by any PDGA member in good standing, however, teams may consist of non-PDGA members. You must not have been awarded any other PDGA grants for the same project (you will verify that you have not been awarded any other grants for this project from the PDGA in your application below).

Criteria

These grants are  available to players, clubs, tournament directors, course creators and maintainers.   

Grants can be used for many purposes, including but not limited to:

  • Projects, Programs, events, activities intended to increase sustainability and knowledge  of sustainable practices.  For example, soil erosion avoidance and mitigation, removal of invasive species, course clean-ups, planting of trees and other restorative/protective actions. Grants may also be used on projects focused on protecting and preserving natural habitats, wildlife corridors and ecosystems.
  • Equipment or other materiel items used to promote environmental protection and sustainability. For example, purchasing recycling equipment or course informational signage.

Throw Green Grants must not fund tangible assets (i.e. computers/computer hardware, etc.) that will revert to the owner after the project is complete and are not intended to fund businesses or business plan development.

Applicants may apply for a grant in successive years.

Grant amount:  $500

Selection Process

Grant applications will be accepted year-round (Note: the process may take up to 4 months). Review of applications by the PDGA Environmental  Committee will continue contingent on available funds. Applications will be reviewed on the criteria listed below. The proposed project should:

  • Strengthen the PDGA’s commitment to the environment and sustainability
  • Contain specific goals/outcomes.
  • Be consistent with the PDGA’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Have clearly defined starting and ending points.
  • Address sustainability. How do you plan to retain/continue the progress made in your project or event?  How can your project be scaled, added to, reproduced by other members and continued into the future?

Terms and Conditions

If the grant application is approved, the recipient agrees to:

  • Sign an agreement with the PDGA agreeing to abide by the terms of this application.
  • Promote and recognize the PDGA in all media coverage and press announcements about grants and environmental projects.  This includes using the PDGA logo and Throw Green logo on all promotional materials.
  • Ensure that the applicant and grant recipient is a PDGA member in good standing.
  • Provide the PDGA an updated list of all project protagonists.
  • Submit a follow-up report six months after receipt of grant funds detailing how the funds are being used.
  • Follow all applicable requirements and regulations for completing environmental projects in their state, region, and nation.
  • Indemnify and hold the PDGA harmless from all claims, liabilities, causes of action and judgments arising out of the environmental projects  in conjunction with the use of the grant funds.
  • A final report must be submitted within 90 days after the completion of the project. The final report may consist of a [30 second - 1 minute] video summary or photo montage and reflection).
  • 15 grants of $500 are available per year on a rolling basis

PDGA Throw Green Environmental Grant Application

A signature page signed by each team member is required. Scanned documents are acceptable. A brief 30 second - 1 minute video describing the project may be submitted along with the application.

Project Narrative

Please be concise and structure the narrative as follows. Do not omit any section.

  1. Discuss how the project will strengthen the PDGA’s commitment to the Environment and the sustainability of our events and courses.
  2. Discuss how the project will be implemented. Include the specific roles of each member of the project team.
  3. Provide a timeline for the project. Be sure to specify at what point the project will be considered complete.
  4. Address sustainability/resilience. What kind of follow-up will occur after project completion?
  5. Discuss how the project will be publicized and promoted.
  6. Will a PDGA Club be involved in the project? If so, how will the club be involved?
  7. Describe any relevant projects, programs, workshops, or activities members of the project team implemented previously, and the success of those projects.
  8. Include additional funding sources.

Budget and Budget Justification

Required components are:

  • Itemized list of expenses with a brief explanation of each
  • Itemized list of funds anticipated from other sources
  • Amount requested from the PDGA Throw Green Grant

Final Report

A final report is due 90 days after the expected completion date. Final reports should be submitted to [email protected].  Failure to submit the final report will exempt all project team members from future grant funding.
