A Lot of Golf Left at the 2015 Am Worlds

The first day of the PDGA Amateur & Junior Disc Golf World Championships has come to an end. With that being said, we have two pieces of advice to offer:
- For those of you who turned in a great score, don’t get cocky.
- For those of you that feel like you could have played better, feel like you played terrible. feel like you played worse than you ever have in your entire life, take a deep breath. And let it go.
Whether you fall into one of the categories above or you are one of the few that are indifferent as to how you played today, one absolute certainty remains. THERE’S A LOT OF GOLF LEFT.
Keep in mind that although the Day 1 results are posted, they don’t truly reveal which players are in the lead just yet, specifically for the Advanced, Advanced Masters, and Advanced Grandmasters divisions. These divisions have so many competitors that they were split into multiple pools and had to play different courses today based solely on how many competitors each course could hold. For example, the C and D pools of MA1 played both Meyer Broadway North and Meyer Broadway South. Meanwhile, the A and B pools played only one round at Vicksburg Recreation Area.
When you look at the results on PDGA.com,remember that although all the A and B pool players are listed above the C and D pool players in the rankings, it’s because the results page sorts by total score which is obviously lower for competitors that played only 18 holes compared to 36 (C and D pools). This issue will resolve itself by the end of the day tomorrow, as all divisions will have played the same courses and the same amount of rounds before the “Great Shuffle” tomorrow evening (re-organizing of the pools based on scores).
That isn't meant to take away from the fact that there were some truly incredible scores out there today. Tommy Arianoutsos #28932 is one of many that proves that point, shooting the hot round in the A-Pool at Vicksburg this morning after carding an unoffcially 1044-rated eight under par (86 points above his player rating), also the highest rated round of any player for the entire day.
The good news is, outside of the three aforementioned divisions, the lucky few that are in the lead, are in fact, truly in the lead. The leaders of each of the 17 divisions are listed below. Take a look at the official 2015 Am Worlds schedule to see what courses they played (and will be playing tomorrow) and head over to the results page to see how close the pack is to catching them.

With the rounds today officially in the books, the 760+ field of players was invited to celebrate the 2015 Am Worlds with a players party at Bell's Brewery Eccentric Cafe for some great food and incredible microbrew beer (for those of age). After getting some much needed post-players-party rest, tomorrow brings new challenges and new courses. We'll be following as many of the divisions as we can for live hole-by-hole scoring on pdgalive.com complimented by tweets via @pdgalive on Twitter.
And last but not least, for anyone out here in Kalamazoo watching or competing at the 2015 Amateur & Junior Disc Golf World Championships, please tag your updates, photos, and videos with the official hashtag, #2015AmWorlds.
