Lagos mini 1/2/2005
The first mini of the year for Lago had 50 people come together and enjoy yet another beautiful Texas day. The largest field was the open players with 23 and the smallest was the ladies with 5 but I have seen where 5 women would be a big turn out. A little drizzly rain did not scare people away, from as far as Live Oak, to play what has become everyones favorite first Sunday of the month.
The beginning of year had many surprises with a new hole#6, 2 aces and a course record of -11.
Jon and company cut in a new tee box for #6 making a short but very tight line, with plenty of chances for boggy.
Local James McNair splits the ace pot on #18 with Round Rocks Eddie who hit it on #5.
Chris Ware was able to set the bar at -11 with a no boggy effort to win the day. The tradition of ctp bring back carried on with Alex Downs returning a 3 litter of coke and Ricky Wright returning a multi taste 6 pack of adult beverage. The returnees next month will be Efrain Salazar for #2, Eddie Miller for #5,Chris Ware for #17 and James McNair for #18. The day was finished with a keg of beer, hot dogs and lots of momma goblin chicken. Everyone had a great time and if you were unable to make it out.you missed out.

Jan 03 2005, 02:52 PM
It was wet but not bad at all. After 36 holes the water finally started getting through my shoes. I stayed pretty dry considering I did not have an unbrella handy. Had a big turnout and Mini even played. Anyone ever tried Bams stuffed burgers off of Loemans Ford? They have awesome burgers and the COLDEST beer no doubt. After the first 2 came out frozen he went back and found another 2 that were not and gave us all 4 beers for the price of two.

Played 11 holes before the sun set and was just to hard with out leds. There was one hole where I got a whopping 5 strokes (2) for some unknown reason and the rest were birds and pars with a sidearm shot on an ace run at 287 ft that hit chains!!!! More birds than pars thankfully,,but I think I hit my ultimate low at Lago in the mini. I figured it could only get better now!!! I think I made 2 of the other guys I was playing with cry!!! I got called some names but like I figured....#1 it wasn't the first time I have been called that and I am sure it won't be the last!! and#2..... I hit chains on a sidearm 287 ft ace run!!!! Who gives a crap what a couple of sour pusses think?? I don't,,,,just made up my mind to go to DGLO in Michigan thats all!!!

A bunch more course clearing bastardization has taken place. Pretty much from the basket on 5 all the way to the trail down on 7 has been cleared of cedars. Some Hard woods too. The Hackberry tree just down the hill from 6 basket is cut. So much for blocking the ace run hyzer from the new 6 tee. As always the future of the course is up in the air. I am trying to research and find the developer or property owners and find out what is going on. As far as the Resort Disc Golf Course sees it, Surely nothing positive will come of this. :mad:JP

Jan 17 2005, 05:13 PM
Bastages!!!!

vinnie
Jan 17 2005, 05:29 PM
who owns that (resort)?
Then I would see if someone asked to remove the trees. If that don't work I would contact the tree cutters and found out how much they plan on doing, so the fixes you put in will not have to be alter over and over.
Let me know!

It looks like they cleared on two properties. As many know but worth repeating, the Lago Vista Resort Course is on 5 to 7 properties, (Anybody good with tax maps?). That is the main reason it is exlusively maintained by disc golfers. The majority of the course is one tract where all of the recent survey tree location happened, which is mostly in the flood plain. The new clearing is near the BS cut several months ago. We are working on getting the old four holes, behind Casa Lago, possibly redone and redoing the course layout, again.

Not Really. James did talk to a lady that owns one of the condos near 7 tee. I think she had something to do with the clearing of cedars a few months ago but not this. James said she said she heard, (sounds like gospel huh!), that someone was paid $1200 to do the clearing. She is POed cause she had been cleaning up wines, trimming, and wattering the little knarly oak half way doen on the right of the new 6. I asked Mark at Cabo Loco and he didn't know. As of last Sat. nothing has been shreaded or hauled away. Of course the city never called back.

Course Change!
Chris Sandman talked to a guy who heard that they are going to clear he whole hill side near 5, 6, and 7. :mad:Cedars only hopefully. With hole 6 so open it has been pulled and installed at the old hole 18. For those of you not familiar with this old hole, from existing 18 basket go up the hill and there is a tee box shooting to a basket near our parking area, close to where we set up a practice basket for the mini. The hole parallels the Casa Lago Resort parking lot.
Hole 7 has a new tee box. From basket 5 go up the hill past new temp 6 tee and then towards old 7 tee. The hole is longer than before and brings some trees back into play.
Every thing is temporary. We ask for your input on how it flows and plays. One will have to look at what was cleared to see why the change is necessary.

Feb 07 2005, 01:08 PM
It does not matter where you put the tee box, I am still gonna park it next to the basket. Now if I could only make a 10' putt. Gotta a 3 on it. Just could not get them to stop rolling off the chains. I like the shot, and I bet no-one noticed the RHBH hyser route low under the first limb on the tree on the right. The obstacle tree. It is a winter line butt deffinately on to check out. I did not take that route cause I new my orc would love the big down hill S shot.

Feb 07 2005, 02:44 PM
I thought about that shot but you were not there to show me the line. :DAlthough my score did not reflect how much fun I had my game was pretty much on except for every putt. How do you miss a six foot bird??? 8' , 10', 12',15',.....It was disturbing which reflect my circle 6 on the last hole. Good by mr 150 flick. If someone finds it in the lake my name and number is on it.

Efrain, I owe you $8.00 for third. I ended up with the score card and it was added wrong. I took a three on hole three but, on the score card it looks like a two.

You , Matt and I tied at 55. I lose out cause the wrong total posted, Matt loses out cause he's the one that scrawled that nasty looking three, plus he added my score while I went back to hole ten to pick up a disc that I left. :(

I'll try to make it out to CatHollow on Thursday if you are going to be out there.

Hey Efrain, I was warming up for the Tony Ware Tourn. and thumbed an ace on #1! Facing the basket on one the wind was straight left to right. The first Sunday of the month is this weekend and that means LAGO MINI.
This will be your only chance to play an organized mini before the Solo Memorial. You ams will have pick your own payout of some of the hottest disc on the market at this time and we are having a cook out after the round. SO bring you swimming gear and something for the grill to make a day at the lake. Rumor has it there will be boats and a second round of double after we eat. We will have lots of C.T.P.s and if no one hits the ace, that money will be added to the SOLO ACE POT.
