Given the distance between the two cities, and the difference between the two events, I don't see it as a problem.
If for some reason, you can't make it to Lewisville, why shouldn't you have an alternative.
Besides, If you were to halt the minis for any conflicting tournament in Texas, there wouldn't be any weekends left to have minis on.
Amen to that. What's really scary will be those rare weekends when a mini isn't conflicting. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Sammitt got back from Lago a while ago and said there were a bunch of folks out there today. Sure is good to see this wonderful jewel of Austin area golf finally getting discovered and played by more and more people.

i know that waco is before this one, but what day is it?
i'm on vaca! that day so i'm sure i'll be there.
thanx for coming out!!!!!
Feb. 2, Metal. Extended forecast (and we all know how reliable those are, right?) says mid 60's. Should be a great day to golf and hang out with the Lago Deer.
Don't forget that after the round we head two blocks down the street to Eddie's Restaurant. Eddie's so happy that we've been coming to see him that he's giving away a free breakfast buffet or brunch in each division.
Besides its cool to look around and see this little restaurant packed with golfers all telling lies about the long putts they made and the short putts they missed. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Hello All,
Im so excited to be coming back to Lago for what will hopefully be a little warmer day this Sunday, February 2. After a fun, but rather cold and damp 1st outing in Waco on Super Sunday, Im ready for a warmer day. Tee off is at 10:30 and well cut off signups at 10 a.m. sharp. $5 Ams, $8 Pros with an optional $2 Ace pot. $38 will be added to the pot since no one hit the ace in Waco.
I have also been told that the 73 golfers we had in January wasnt a record for an Austin area mini. Evidently back in the day there was a Saturday mini at Pease that drew 112 players. Well, now we have something to shoot for. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Eddies Talk of the Town Restaurant, the little eatery where all the golfers gather after the round, was very happy to see us invade their establishment once again after the January mini. This cool little restaurant serves up a breakfast buffet until they close and has a cook right there to whip up whatever custom breakfast item you dont see in the buffet by request. They also throw down some serious chicken fried steaks. (And dont forget that its always okay to bring in your own cold adult beverage of choice.) Eddie has really taken to disc golfers, and he was so happy to see us turn out in numbers again that hes decided to offer one FREE breakfast buffet or brunch to each division we offer at our Lago events. Since you have to drive by the restaurant to leave the Resort, its quite easy to collect on that prize.
Dont forget that theres always a big group that gets together after we leave Eddies to go shoot draw doubles back at the Resort course and/or at Lago Vistas other course, Arrowhead, only five minutes away.
Ill be extremely busy in the month of February. After the Lago mini, Ill actually be getting a chance to play when I head down to Live Oak for their Ice Bowl Feb. 15th. Its gonna be a great day on a great course. Then Ill be making my PDGA sanctioned TD debut at one of the older events and courses in Texas, when Hill Country Flyers presents the Victoria Open, Feb. 22-23 at Riverside Park on the banks of the Guadalupe River. (Dont forget that for all those that arent planning on playing the Live Oak event, that weekend, Feb. 15-16, is the Gulf Coast Wintertime Championship Series Final, PDGA B-tier in Houston at Tom Bass Park. HFDS is a Victoria Open sponsor so tell em you appreciate their help when you see our Houston brothers.)
Look forward to seeing all your smiling faces at one of these events.
Peace & Plastic,
Mark Atwood

Flying Monsters seen at Lago Vista! Oh My! /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Just got in some of the hottest new discs out there, The Monster. We will have 'em with us at the Lago Vista 1st Sunday Monthly Mini this Sunday. Also got several other goodies (11x KC models that feel like CE to me, DX Gremlins, cool Innova soda towels, bags, Ching portables, etc.)
For those Austin area golfers not going to the Big Show in Lewisville this weekend, come on out Sunday and get what you need and play on one of the most fun courses in the area.
Metal, they're all some of the best chips made, but Original is still my fave. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Jalapeo MUCHO mo bettah!!!!
Attention Circle C golfers, there will be no mini this Sunday in support of the Lago monthly mini.
Thanks Tom. We really appreciate the support being shown by the local clubs like Circle C and the Almighty Dragons in turning out for our Lago 1st Sunday Monthlies. Having the Austin area disc golf family get together once a month out there has been wonderful to see.

All those not going to the Big Show come hang out with us and the deer at the Resort.
Also, I'll have Victoria Open and Red Rock Show entry forms with me so you can slay multiple avian creatures with one bullet. (I mean, who kills birds with stones, really?)
Tee off is at 10:30 and well cut off signups at 10 a.m. sharp. $5 Ams, $8 Pros with an optional $2 Ace pot. $38 will be added to the pot since no one hit the ace in Waco.

Just an idle question,
How many players would be turned off (or on) if the HCF minis went to maxis ? 2 rounds 1 course $10 Am.
Not that I think that Mark wants to hang around all day and not get to play, but I could have used a second round last weekend to atone for my less than stellar first round.
Show of hands ?

Good luck tommorow Mark/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif I'll will be there in spirit. Must keep on the course work to be prepared for RRS 2003. Many Pease regulars are on their way to Lago.
Thanks Dave, packing the car right now and gonna turn in early. I'm sure MDGCC will be looking sweet for our arrival. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
BTW, I could use a few extra marker flags, since we have more than the usual CTPs. (Thanks to Eddie's Talk of the Town)
Also, Jon Peacock will be accepting donations to and memberships for the North Shore Disc Golf Club tomorrow. Folks, trust me, without the NSDGC and the work they put in on that course on their own time out of their own pockets, it wouldn't be there, much less be playable. Join if you'd like to be a part of this great club, and give what you can to the maintenance funds. Good karma comes back to you.

the top in drawn to look like an eyeball
3rd an eagle that was really nasty(been in the water awhile)no tag.
the red polarsis that sailed way out was really too deep to look for, maybe by next month it will be possible.

totally forgot to thank you for the wonderful day of golf to finish out my vacation.
see ya at victoria/msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
Wow, what a day we had. 64 Players showed up on a nice but breezy day at the Resort at Lago Vista. I'm working on a website update to hillcountryflyers.com (and an email) where I'll be posting scores and other info.
What I'll tell you for now is that in Advanced Women, there was a dead heat for most of the round between Patty Justice and Laura Coffey, that pretty much turned on one hole. Patty ended up taking it by 2 with a 15.
On a VERY windy day, Paul Kreke gave the $50 course record bounty a run with a -9 to take Open. Dam fine shooting in that breeze, my friend.
In Pro Masters, there was a 3-way tie for first. Now, let's not be too hard on Wes Hale, Pat Kinghorn and Kirk Lavalle (all at -3) for splitting it, rather than having a playoff for 1st. They're old, you know, and they get tired. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Randy Wimm betrayed his OMB brethren in search of a piece of plastic and was justly denied by Greg Killam, who shot a -6 to take Advanced.
In Old Man Baggers (or Old Mediocre Bassturds, depending on who you ask /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif), Ric Johnson caught fire and shot a -6 to take Adv. Masters by 5 strokes. If you guys think Ric was brave by playing golf today on his anniversary, that ain't nuttin'. He played an Ice Bowl last year on his wedding day. Happy Anniversary, bro.
Intermediate is where the drama was today. Steven Dekneef and Joe Bob Rossberg ended regulation tied at 2. They played an incredible 6-hole playoff to determine a winner. After Joe Bob saved par with a great uphot off a bad drive to force a 6th hole when Steven missed his putt for bird, Steven put it away with a birdie on the next hole. Man, sometimes disc golf can be fun as a spectator sport.
A 10 person Novice/Rec. division was hotly contested, as 1 stroke separated 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Chad Feitz took honors with a 7.
Gonzo won the CTP throw off for half the Ace Pot, since no one put the biscuit in the basket. His take was $82 and $82 awaits the next Hill Country Flyer Monthly, which will be 1st Sunday at Lago, March 1st. There won't be a 4th Sunday Waco Monthly in Feb. because we'll be running the Victoria Open Feb. 22-23.
(Speaking of which, we took in a bunch of entries today and that event will fill, so don't wait too long.)
All in all, it was a fantastic day of golf. After about 35-40 players visited our friends at Eddies Talk of the Town Restaurant (who gave away 7 free breakfast buffett/brunch plates-1 per division), there was more golf during draw doubles. I believe the team of Jess Palmer and Zach Williamson took that at -13, (not to mention the sickest shot I've ever seen on that course, Jess Palmer's hard bounce out of 402' on #14).
I'll get the website update finished over coffee in the morning. See you guys on March 1st.
And I totally forgot to thank you, Metal, for bringing out a case and a half of bottled water and a case of chips from Schlotzsky's. Funny name, serious sponsor of disc golf. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
(The eagle-eye LS belongs to Zach Williamson)

as usual ATWOOD runs another SMOOTH MINI ...Keep up the good work.. THANKS
Thanks C-dub (and thanks for coming back to get your payout /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif ).
Its getting smoother, I will admit. I only made one mistake this time and it worked out okay. It does seem to be getting easier each time. Also, having 60-70 players at each of these Lago minis (and I'm sure Waco will be the same when we get a good day in March), has really been great on-the-job training to get me ready for our B-tiers this year.
I'd like for people to comment on Gary Duke's question upthread about raised entries and two rounds. We've had some comments from folks about the fact that when they drive out there they want to play for a little more and play a little more golf. My original idea was a fun and casual, inexpensive 1 round mini, but with their popularity and the numbers that we're hosting each time, it seems like some Pros and Ams alike would like to see it done a little differently. I'd really like to know what folks think about that before I decide to drastically alter my original plan.
Thanks in advance for your input, guys.
I would not be in favor of 2 rounds. When I play mini's I like to have the rest of the day to get stuff done, or I would have traveled to Dallas. I like that you do doubles for those that would like to play more. Good job Mark!

Feb 03 2003, 11:35 AM
I myself like the one round. It gives players more time to BS do casual play after Mini round and eat at Eddies.
It may be a good Idea for Jully 4th weekend though. Up the entry, have two rounds, and have a players package of something like a shirt and a mini.
Great Mini Mark, JP /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Thanks for the input, but remember, that was a two part question (entry fees).

You mean doing something else instead of throwing plastic on a weekend. I guess it could be done, but I wouldn't want to try it.
Jess palmer, good to know he is still playing!
Mark, I would like a two rounder with raised entry, then maybe I could convince some people to travel there. I just wish I lived up that ways

Feb 03 2003, 02:49 PM
How 'bout two linked minis or singles and doubles.
You could get a payout for either with having to attend both.
A portion of the entry from each 1 round mini goes to a pot for the overall winner. There is a payout for each mini, and one for the overall. The payout for the first mini (if you are not playing the second) can be done during the second round.
Entry fees could be $6 2 for 1 mini ($4 to mini $2 to overall) or $12 3 for both minis ($4 to each mini and $4 to overall).
Separate payouts for each mini and overall (that's 3 payouts that Mark has to keep up with). That should get him ready to TD.
You're a very sick man and you should seek help immediately.
All in favor of Gary actually running a mini say Aye

* In Intermediate, a mistake in my double-check system caused me to incorrectly announce the order of finish and payout. The mistake was fixed and all players involved got at least what they had coming to them and some got even more. The reason for this is the fact that I believe that I should bear the cost of my mistake, not my players. The payouts listed are as they should have been and the order of finish above is actual.
May go watch some at ZBoaz on Sunday, but have a wedding to attend on Saturday afternoon. Tourney season doesn't start for me until March 1. Gives me 1 month to figure out how to stop sucking.

Sleeveless would be OK, but no bare midriffs (or should I say no bare beer guts) allowed. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Charge more, 5 5 am. 10 5 open. 2 rounds is OK too. One day, 2 round minis are great, expecially when they are every month and close to home!!!! Also, should you pay so deep?
5 reeks. No reason to have all the money going to the smallest percentage of players in ace pots. Most players come to enjoy a full round of friendly competition instead of one shot. A building ace pot is great...but keep the ace entry low.
Better to go deep in payouts except for those players who should be playing Open. Once they play Open they will want the payouts to go deep unless they are at the top of the field. Pretty simple really.
I'm all for the two round mini at Lago, although I did enjoy playing draw doubles with Patty and whipping up on Mitch and Killam. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Mark...my vote would be one round of singles(which is working out well)followed by random draw doubles for those who wish to stay around...I had a great time in doubles even with getting beat by a couple of girls/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif...and that shot by Mr.Palmer was sick
5 has proven itself desirable in this area. Certainly a proper survey would support it. If not, players would not back it at the local minis. Occasionally change is good, that is how some minis arrived at the 5. 1 here, 5 there...
Thanks Dave. Couldn't have said it better myself.
Randy, don't you think winning $2 for 5th and 6th place outta 10 or 12 is kinda silly? I do. I've always liked the way Dave pays out at his mini's and no one has complained.

It is playing with me. I jam your MoJo. You should get on a different card next time. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Survey says:
How many new amateur players became regulars in weekly minis at Round Rock and Pease parks over the last year?
You can have all the surveys you would like with the "mini" crowd in this area. Truth is, pros dictate the ace pots in this area as well as most "mini" formats.
The survey would have little to do with the numbers of amateur players at Pease minis. To suggest that current players attend because of ace pot entries is totally unfounded amongst the players who I play with (and that's most of them). Most amateur players who play Pease minis do it because they want to play a round of competitive golf with fellow amateurs.
There is no doubt that amateur players are attending Lago minis for the opportunity to play a very fun course which is off the beaten path. It's a great time to spend a day competing against one another in a mini format.
The ace pot has little, if anything to do with it. The payout has little, if anything to do with it.
One of the more impressive things about the Lago minis has been the new faces in the amateur divisions who are not part of the "surveyable" mini public "in this area".
While it may be important for Rick to win more for his great effort to dominate his amateur division, I would not belittle the opportunity for lesser players to "cash" in amateur divisions in such a mini. There is a certain satisfaction and bridge to cross for newer players who are not regular tournament players and who have little chance at getting the "high stake" payout that amateur winners have come to expect. Winning something is winning something.
Anyway, I hope Mark caters to the lower players. We have enough big tournaments where we can spend very steep entry fees (ala Amateur World Doubles as well as most major tournaments in this area) and vie for the "big" prizes of discs and merchandise.
The Lago mini should be a monthly event where locals get to play in amateur divisions with deep payout and an opportunity to cash in on an ace by spending less than the stinking $5 which all our "surveyable" pros love to walk away with.
The T10 is going pro this year. That should be enough to tide everyone over for awhile.
ps...you have to excuse me. I have seen a disc golf club which ran a $1 ace pot that accumulated. The ace pot blew the snot out of everything in this area when it came to bringing in players. There is no comparing the lure of a $1 ace entry for a shot at $750 to a $5 ace entry for a shot at $100. Plus, it's always an ace...not a pussyfied closest to.
And when the day comes in this area where amateurs want to pay entries to weekly minis that equal a disc at cost, $1 for accumulating ace pot, $1 for their club (which is not to be garnered soley for the purpose of throwing club parties - heck, if you want to throw a party...everyone chip in and throw a party), then receive payout at top third (I'm not against top third payouts...just against winners who are against deeper payouts) according to the entry fees at disc cost...
Then there might be a body of amateur players who attend weekly minis worthy of having a survey. You know...those players who want some of their money going to disc golf causes which supercede their own desire for what they get out of the sport by winning.

Mark...whatever you do, just keep it fun...if I am going to drive over a hour one way to play in a mini, two rounds would be better than one( this includes Waco and Lago)...The wife and I will stick around to play whatever the format... and I could care less about the ace pot(I have a job for money)...disc golf is to compete and have fun...LifeTime Am/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Most guys (99%) I play with want to win! They are there every day.. not weekly. Competin' is fun... winning $2 is fun?...Winning more is better. PERIOD. AMERICAN WAY. If you dont care if/what you win, why play a mini? Play casual. Its still competing. I paid/played alot (dues) before I finally started winning... occasionally. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

That was really the point, not the entry, but having 2 rounds in the mini to help justify the trip down.
If Lago stays a one round mini, we could always stop by Cameron on the way back to Dallas and play a round.
Randy, simmer down now. I get where you are coming from but could you explain this to me? "Truth is, pros dictate the ace pots in this area as well as most "mini" formats."
If you mean Pros are running the minis then I get it otherwise I've not noticed pros trying to dictate things.
"Plus, it's always an ace...not a pussyfied closest to." Why do you participate in this at the Pease minis on Saturdays if that's what you think? Ace pots are optional aren't they?
I think mini TD's should do what they think is best for their mini and I will decide for myself if it is a way I want to spend my time/money. I like the idea of $1 from each entry going to the TD or the course/club. I can't imagine having to commit to running something every week(I'm speaking of TD's who have full time jobs outside of disc golf)
Austin has always seemed to have a fragmented disc golf group. I am not sure why exactly, maybe lack of ownership in the area courses?
On a high note, I have in my trunk a red/white Igloo ice chest that I found at the Circle R. Do you know who's it is/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
I never win, and have never had an ace. Unless the deep payout includes DFL, I say leave it alone. As for the ace pot, I am seldom in it. More money for BEER./msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
Have to go with history there.
lol...just stirring the pot, Shannon. I just don't care for $5 ace pots at minis. But I don't complain about them. Don't complain about payouts either.
I don't care if Atwood wants us to pay $2 for entry and $10 for ace pot.

eagle eye, went by pease yesterday dave wasn't there yet, i'll try again today on the way to work.
i'll go by everytime i can til he gets it.
I'll throw in my constructive 2 cents instead of dogging on Gary. The one round, with know random draw doubles, or just casual round afterwards is most preferrable to me. It is a lot easier to get away for a single round of golf with the option to play 2 than to set aside the entire day.
I like the $1 ace pot. I also think the half ace pot for CTP is a good idea too. Keep the ace pot small.
We have TX 10 for the big ace pot/all day affair.

A mini with a seperate doubles might be the way to go. You could play one or both. A small ace pot is good. A $2 split, 1 for a building ace and 1 for CTP makes it interesting. I think it is fun watching everybody go for the CTP. As far as a $1 going to the club I used to be against it. The January mini got ZERO donations to the club. The February mini brought in $26 for the club, but that was with me hitting up every player for a donation. I don't like doing the hard sale begging for donations. The club spends much more than that on trash bags, grass seed, gas and other things not to mention our time.
Don't get me wrong. It is very rewarding to see a big group of disc golfers having fun at our course. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Sometimes it comes down to the question of why do people who work on a course want to have a mini at the course.
We all know the main reason work is done is for love of the game. And I believe most players that attend disc golf events love the game and appreciate the work that is done by others. But...
Most disc golfers aren't rolling in money. Heck, alot of us are in trouble with the family for the amount of money we spend on golf already. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Donations are awesome. I saw a pro player who certainly is not playing disc golf at a profit, stuff his winnings in the donation bucket. But most players would be happy to have a dollar of their entry fees go to the people who do the work so they could begin to be reimbursed for the expenses which they incur while working on courses. Very few of us miss a dollar and by everyone having a $1 taken from entry, this small fee can actually come to mean something. It also means everyone takes part and it's something that everyone can be proud of, as a group.
It sounds silly, but having everyone aware of an entry fee whcih includes $1 going to the club, would have no adverse effect on anything. Nobody has to feel bad for not being able to make a donation. It's simply something in the price which they have settled on in their minds before leaving the house.
Concerning the closest to...
If you need the time to do scores...then so be it. But there is no question that these closest to's can have an adverse effect on the times which these mini's finally reach completion. In Lago's case, if people are going to want to eat at the restaurant and play doubles afterward, the end of the mini doesn't need to drag an hour after the mini is over. Ties could be settled with a closest to.
lol...you gotta love it Mark!

Don't let the high water of Lake Travis scare you, boys and girls. We're gonna have a blast, as usual so come on down. Our average the last 3 months, since we kicked this thing into high gear, has been 65 players. Come be part of the monthly mini that gets great support and participation from all the Austin clubs and players, see some friendly faces and play one of Texas' most fun courses.
$5 Ams, $8 Pros, $2 Ace Pot. If the Ace is hit, the lucky stiff that hits it gets it all. Otherwise, there's a CTP throw off for half of it and the other half travels with us to the next HCF Monthly Mini. The last 2 HCF MM's, there have been no aces hit, so we start out, on this course with plenty of ace runs, with $82 in the pot.
Tee time is 10:30 sharp and entries will end as close to 10 p.m. as I can swing it. Anyone coming up after I've closed entries and wishing to enter...WILL BE FATALLY SHOT! Okay, well, only wounded, but you have plenty of time to get there in time.
Afterwards we all head down the street 2 blocks to Eddie's Talk of the Town Restaurant for a great brunch, including cooked to order items on the breakfast buffet. Eddie has been so happy with our support of his establishment, that he will once again be offering one free meal to one person in each division we field.
After the eatin', most of us head back to the course for a round of random draw doubles, which someone inevitably puts together each time. Usually $5 for this.
Don't miss out. See you guys in a couple of days.

Ray, I pulled your card back out and here's what I found.
Ray M. 3,3,3,4,2,2,3,3,3,3,4,4,3,3,5(circle),3,3,2
2 56 (It was turned in with a 56 written down)
Mark S. 2,3,3,5(circle),3,3,3,3,2,3,4,3,3,3,3,3,3,2
0 54 (Mark turned his card in with a 55, so actual score plus a 2-stroke penalty for an incorrect scorecard makes 56)
The card, as I got it, read:
Ray M. 56
Mark S. 55
Dave D. 55
Hope that helps. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

If your asked if you are a member be honest, they have a members list, and be polite. If asked to leave please do so. Contact me by email or cell at 297-5642 so I can keep tabs on how private the park will be. Mark, I got the North Shore mini disc order. I will bring your 50 to the April 6th Mini. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif JP
Thanks JP, we're wiped outta minis right about now.(You've got mail.) Can't wait to get back to the comfy surroundings of LV.

/clipart/smile.gif
The April Lago Vista Mini is this Sunday. Just bumping it back since alot of folks in Waco asked me about it over the weekend.
Free breakfast buffet/brunch CTPs for each division from Eddie's Talk of the Town (2 blks up the street), registrations from 9: a.m. to 10:00 a.m., $5 Ams, $8 Pros, all divisions offered if they make, $2 Ace, $32 already in the pot, $50 course record bounty and all kinds of fun.
We've been averaging about 60 players on 1st Sundays, but we'll always welcome more. If you haven't played this fun course yet, then you should. Remember, you'll want to see it before the ZT10 there this year at least. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

I think we are going to make it this time. How do you get there from S.A., and how far is it?
Martin, Arrowhead is unsure... see earlier post by JP.

TIME Change Sat Night. Spring Forward. Don't be late you won't get in.
Course update: The Resort looks good getting real green and is ready for a big group to have some fun. Bring It On! I played yesterday with Sandman and Larry Thompson. Watch out Advanced Masters, (Ric Johnson), Larry beat Sandman with a 3 down. Eithier the course is getting harder or I'm getting worse. I hope to have it out of my system by Sunday. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif JP

Letting the girls know there are atleast two of us. Me and Patty, anymore? The more the merrier.
Glad y'all are gonna make it, Darlene. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif I'm gonna call Megan Smith and see if she can make it too. Nice girl and can throw a loooong way. I saw her once accidentally turn over a drive off the elevated tee of #2 and reach the edge of the water at darn near halfway up #16's fairway. (That'll make sense to you when you see the course.)
The Coffey's will be in Nac, I think, but its always nice to see the ladies turn out for our minis.
Who know's, maybe you and Patty (what's her Red Rock "name," anyway?) can talk Annie into playing if she makes it out Sunday. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Could someone please post directions from Austin? I am not familar with the area...And about how long does it take to get there from Austin?
Don't know for sure if I will make it or not- I'll try my best!
Excellent, Josh, it'd be great to have you.
These are the directions in the course directory and they are excellent. Nobody's gotten lost yet using 'em.
Austin: IH 35 or US 183 north to FM 1431. Go west to Lago Vista, left on Lohmans Ford (light), 3 miles to a right on Boggy Ford Rd. Bear left at the Y onto Highland Lake Dr., to stop sign and left on American Dr. Park in lot on left after last condos on left.
As for how long it takes, I've never driven there from Austin, since I live northwest of town about 55 mi. out in the sticks. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif Maybe someone else could answer that.
Thanks Mark...I guess I coulda looked there!/clipart/wink.gif

Happy to report that I spoke to the big guy last night and explained how nice it would be to have a nice weather day Sunday. I mentioned that I'd had kind of a rough March, and that a good start to April would go a long way towards helping me to recover from the physical and mental beating the previous month had put on me.
Well, I must've been a good boy lately, because I awoke this morning to find that the scattered T-storms that have been predicted for days for Sunday were now off the forecast. Cloudy and in the 80's sounds like good golf weather to me.
See y'all there. You can thank me then. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Alright Cong, Jerry's got his own login now. How's about saying something nice to him? /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Sweet JC, glad to hear you'll be there. KT coming too?
Jerry is KT playing on Sunday? I met her in Red Rock and I would like to play with her. Hope to see her there.
looks like i will be there saturday around 1 and sunday as well. see you then.......
Okay guys, I can't take it anymore. My arm's still kinda funky, but I just can't wait any longer. OUTSIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its too freakin' nice out and my discs are calling me. I'm headed out to Lago to play my first round in weeks. I'll let you know if I come back with one arm or two. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
Anyone without a day job that wants to play, I'll be there about 2:20.
Okay, better make it 2:30. It took me a few minutes to round everything up. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Danielle, we are still trying to find a baby sitter for Sunday. e-mail her at katiecrumpton@hotmail.com

anyone playing Lago today?
Evidently someone was playing Lago today.
As great as yesterday was for me (see "Days that make you glad you're a disc golfer" thread), the only downside was the loss of my favorite CE disc, a 165 Eagle which flies as straight and true as I can throw it. Unfortunately, I've developed a little hitch in my technique in my absence from the course, and I was turning it over a bunch yesterday. I turned it over off the tee on #13 and lost sight of it as it was turning into the ground over the ridge between the tee and the hole. We looked for it where we lost sight of it for quite a while, but I ended up taking a stroke and throwing from where it was last seen.
I just got a call from JAB, who said it was pin high about 8' from the basket. He found it today as he was making his birdie putt from the same spot! Life is good. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
hey, someone give me directions from bastrop... im in bastrop tonight and need directions to lago for the mini.plsssssssssssssssssssssss

Alrighty then. The HCF Exploder is loaded and ready to go. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif We'll have some cool stuff for you guys tomorrow in the way of plastic as usual, and we've ordered a nice weather day. Forecast calls for highs in the mid 80's, clouds in the morning clearing in the afternoon. There's a 20% chance of some wet stuff, but it sure doesn't look like a possibility tonight.
Eddie's Talk of the Town is ready for us. Remember, he's offering a free buffet of breakfast or brunch for divisional CTP's. Mitch and Patty Justice are also sponsoring a CTP on #17 for all divisions of a metal mini and a couple of Round Rock Express tickets. HCF will also be putting up a nice Candy disc for all divisions as a CTP on #10.
There's $32 already in the Ace Pot carried over from the last 4th Sunday at Waco and with an average of 60 players at $2 each, a nice $150 Ace on that very aceable course is certainly a reasonable expectation. Regardless, we'll throw off for half if no one puts the biscuit in the basket.
Don't forget that the course record bounty of $50 is still sitting there just waiting for an -11 to be thrown by anyone in any division too.
I'll be getting there a little early so I can throw a few holes, so if I'm not standing there when you pull up, don't worry. I'll be at the Exploder no later than 9 a.m. to start taking signups.
$5 Ams, $8 Pros, $2 Ace Pot. All divisions offered as long as there's enough players to make them.
See 'ya in the a.m.. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Hello All, what a great day for disc golf (I told you so /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif ).
I'm gonna get some grub and then I'll plug in the laptop and paste in the scores. Here's some info to tide you over
No Aces: Eddie Miller takes home $81 in CTP throw off for half.
Seewhere wins Open with a -9 for $56 with Shannon Fosdick taking 2nd with a -7 for $33.
Kyle Grundman wins advanced after a playoff with Drake Strock after both shot a -4.
Intermediate went to "Oak Hill" Chris Wright.
Novice went to Rick Steinle
Adv. Women was won by Danielle Vargas (somebody say Liiiiive Oooooaaaaak) after she and Patty Justice pushed each other through three playoff holes.
49 Players came out and wern't scared of the morning drizzle that turned into a beautiful sunny day.
Oh, BTW, Paul Kreke and his partner shot -11 to take doubles out of 6 teams.

I'm working on getting the score tables finished now. Had to go from PC to paper, due to the fact that I still haven't gone out and bought a power adapter for the laptop to plug into the Exploder.
Thanks Jon and Danielle. Its easy to putt like that when you have a partner like Von, knowing that you can putt with confidence because if you miss it, your partner won't.
May be I should try to imagine Paul standing over my shoulder during singles tourneys. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

She's a wonderful person for sticking up for me, although her taste in men is questionable. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
Hey, Guys I had a great time in Lago.Jon, I had a great time as your partner. We almost pulled it off. If Mark hadn't cut his hair we could have been 1st.I have an idea ? Mark can give the hair he cut off his head. To put it on yours. Then the Forces of Disc golf shall be balanced once again./msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gifLOL Thanks Again for a great time,
Mark V.
Wait a minute, my short hair is getting a little blown out of proportion here. If you want to talk about the doubles thing, don't forget that I kinda had one of the best Pros around these parts as my partner.
Maybe next time, I'll even let him make some shots. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif
wait till next time....i'll probably be there. you do need a haircut like mine though/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif.
yeah...he'd look pretty cool with hair sticking out of his ears. /msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif
Frank...I would have tied for the win in Novice...had I not been playing up.

Frank, I think I'll move on from my quest to humiliate Wimm. I like him a lot and I feel bad for him. I like you a lot too, but I feel you could use some humility. Its time to train the Martyr Machine sights squarely on you. Hope you're gonna be in Waco.

mark you need to check out the scores from nac./msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif you would of walked all over me.i have never been on the last place card. much less for 3 rounds. that was your chance baby/msgboard/images/clipart/proud.gif actually i can't wait to play you again/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif i mean kick your [*****].
All that smack you talked upthread and my first threat sends you crawfishin'? Man, you're gonna be way easier than Randy was. It took me two years to beat him down enough to where he actually had to start thinking about it.
(I know you don't really care RW, but don't tell FD. It'll take all the fun out of it.)
BTW Frank, when I do start wearing your game down to my level and beating you consistently, there's just one thing I have to know.
Will I still be welcomed in your home? /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

#18 Basket Stolen at the Resort. During the week of April 21, # 18 basket at the Lago Vista Resort Course was stolen. How anyone could steal from a non profit organization trying to support disc golf is beyond me. Apparently someone broke the weld at the lock to steal it. Any information on this theft would be very much appreciated. The club is looking at putting up a bounty reward for information leading to the recovery of the basket. Contact me at 512-297-5642 or JonP@NorthShoreDiscGolf.com. This is also posted on the stolen basket thread.

The Lago Vista Resort has new owners. I am trying to contact them about the course and club. At this time I am sure they have a lot more on their minds than the disc course. Hopefully they will back us totally and even help with maintenance. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif J P
Hi All,
It was a beautiful, but windy morning at Lago Vista Resort. As windy as it was, this course which normally yields many ego-building low rounds, offered up only 7 below par out of the 34 folks that spent the day launching plastic into strong, swirling gusts. As close as anyone came to the $50 bounty for the course record (currently -10) was a pair of -4s.
We raised $87 toward the purchase of a new basket from player donations. With the Hill Country Flyers pledge to match whatever we came up with today, were $174 closer to replacing #18, which was stolen last week. Since no aces were hit, the CTP throw-off for half was won by Lago local, Jon Peacock. Jon said that most of that $62 was gonna be put back into the basket fund too. Thanks also to James McCaine, who stepped up with $15 of his own for the fund, as well as all of the players who donated extra money above their entries today. Well have a new #18 before you know it at this rate.
The other $62 from the Ace Pot will travel with us to the next HCF Monthly at Waco on May 25th, at Cameron East (hopefully), if that course is back in by then. If not, well be at Cameron Park at the Redwood Shelter.
Id like to thank everyone who came out and especially to those who were 4 hours away yesterday in hot and humid Houston for the ZT10. For those folks, it was a weekend of much plastic and asphalt. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

Also, it was announced today that a cleanup/workday is scheduled for the Resort course on Saturday, May 31. With the Resort having just been purchased by new owners, we really want to get out there and show them what we can do as a group to maintain the course areas of the grounds so that they feel good about coming on board with disc golf.
Weedeaters, mowers and whatever we can bring to clean and trim will be appreciated.

No, Thank You C-Ware! That is exactly why we do it 'for the Growth and love they have for sport we call "DISC GOLF"' We will need help rustling up some riding mowers for the clean up and am counting on the dedicated Round Rockers for support. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif JP
The advice was to look at his player ranking, and thanks for trying to start a fight, dork!/msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif

This Saturday, May 31st, is the Lago Vista Resort disc golf course mow, weedeat, and cleanup. It isn't in bad shape so we should really be able to get it into good shape. We will meet at 10:00 am and work a couple of hours. Draw doubles afterwards if we have the energy. A shower and swimming pool will be available at The Shores to cool off.
Sunday, June 1st, is the LV Resort monthly mini. Sign up is from 9 to 10 and tee off is around 10:30.
Information is on the web site www.NorthShoreDiscGolf.com (http://www.NorthShoreDiscGolf.com) or call me at 512-297-5642 with any questions. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gifJon Peacock

I guess you can always count on the Rockers; "ROUND ROCK". If Laddie can get more back drugs tomorrow he will be bring out his tractor brush hog on Friday. Under Sandman's guide hopefully he will cover a lot of area just leaving detail work and the roughest areas to be done. Hopefully the fairways will be mowed wider than ever. Of course it would take forever to mow all my landing zones. SeeYa there. /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif Jon P

Mark,
What time is sign up? I seem to be drawing a blank. I have friends coming and I cannot remember. Sorry.
Jerry, are we gonna arm wrestle? /msgboard/images/clipart/happy.gif We start taking signups at 9:00 a.m. and try to cut them off at 10:00 a.m. to get us started as close to 10:30 as possible. Inevitably we run a few minutes late, but I'm not gonna be my usual hardass self when the whole point of this once a month gathering is to have fun and play golf on one of the most fun courses anywhere.
See y'all there
