I don't know what the budget is for riding lawn mowers but I'll keep my eyes and ears open.
AustinWide, Texas (http://www.austinwide.com/s/s7107951002.html)
morning all. i came home and laid in bed watching football all day yesterday, so i didn't get the scores loaded on my desktop pc. i'm working on it now, so it shouldn't be too long.
we had 51 players for the final HCF monthly of '03. thanks so much to those folks who have supported us this year and look for more mini fun in '04.
a few notes before scores. vinnie teased the course record AGAIN! a -9 was good enough for 1st in mpo and $52. mike olse hit the ctp for half the ace pot, which i beleive was $69. the only am division that was won with a score of under par was omb, by some rec bagger. :) ma2 and ma1 both had ties at the top with brad granier and mitch justice coming out on top in the playoffs respectively.
stay tuned...:)

The budget for a riding mower is around 5 to 6 hundred. A good mower that will last at a great price. Figure 100 players in a $10 bag tag challenge with payout to the top 30.
Congrates to Mark for a well ran Dec.Mini and a -1 round. JP

wow, we did have a great time yesterday. thanks to vinnie for bringing out hotdogs. man, that hit the spot. :)
also, big thanks to my friend lawren herring for talking me in to playing. seems that it was martyr man's day! the cowboys loss was offset nicely by my win and my best competition round ever at lv. and yes, before you ask, i did play the same tees. and no, i didn't payoff anyone on my card. :)
the course looked great and is in the best shape its ever been in these days, thanks to jon peacock, chris sandman and the rest of the nsdgc volunteers and members. if you haven't joined, please remember that this club and the money they raise from memberships is the only reason that this gem of a texas course gets maintained.
'03 was great and we have some ideas for making '04 even better. as usual...stay tuned!!! :)
Lawren is back in town? Last I heard, he was driving a truck, and not around much....
Marky mark, get me a contact for him, havent seen him in a couple years!

scores scores scores!! Metal needs the public encouragement.
Does Mark no longer hold a Novice division at his minis or is there not enough people to make a division? The reason I ask is last time that the scores for the mini were posted they didn't include a novice division. Also, if anybody can aswer before Mark post scores, what was the score of the person who won intermediate. I'm just trying to figure out where I fit in down there (best score there is 59 and that won novice for me but I know I can shoot better).
jpeacock
Jan 08 2004, 10:39 AM
Mark usually has a recreational division which is the same as novice. He needs at least 3 to make a division but there were several rec players last Sunday.
Scores from most of the other Lago Vista Mini's are posted at www.NorthShoreDiscGolf.com (http://www.NorthShoreDiscGolf.com) scores page. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif JP
Jon is correct, Rec = Nov.
Sorry I've been late on getting the scores posted (you'd think as well as I shot I'd have done it before now :) ).
I'll plug the old laptop in to the LAN line here in a few minutes and get 'em up.
I want all to know that the announcement I made today regarding my other events in '04, will have no bearing whatsoever on my Lago Vista Monthly 1st Sunday Minis. Never fear.
See you guys on Super Sunday (ha ha ha, what a great team those iggles are, ha ha ha) and look for scores shortly.

53 players enjoyed a windy (check the scores) but fun day at lago in january.
the ace pot, which i believe was up to $160 (chasing the page with the facts, but i think that's right) was wiped out and split between matt harris and eddie miller. not certain but i believe matt's ace was #9 while eddie's was his second ace on #5 during an HCF mini.
again, sorry for the delay. hey, at least you know it wasn't personal. otherwise, i'd have been chomping at the bit to post my -2. :)

Mark,
Casa Lago Resort is working on opening a resturant within a month. The returant manager, Mark, wants to talk with you about lunches for the Memorial Day weekend tournament.
Email me Biotch. :DJP
Not sure what a returant is, but I'm always happy to talk to manager types. Maybe we could have a meeting at that new restaurant I hear they're opening up there soon. That would be swell.

just send him a private message or message me and I can give you his cell number.
Although I answered C-Dub privately and JP pointed to my posted schedule, I thought I'd go ahead and confirm that we will indeed be holding the Lago 1st Sunday mini as always.
With a standing monthly, conflicts with major and popular events are always gonna happen. That may keep us from always hitting our average of around 50, but it won't keep us from being there.

Well, it was a gorgeous day at Lake Travis and Lago Vista. The course was looking great, the weather was outstanding and the queso dip at Cabo Loco was tasty. More news about the DG support of this new restaurant (good food, cold beer, nice folks) coming soon.
Even with two big tourneys within driving distance, we had 53 players as the Lago faithful showed up, as always. I can't tell y'all how much the support out there means to me and to the NSDGC. Its so cool to see all those golfers on that beautiful course, that used to be more populated by deer and tall grass than discers. :)
As for me, I started out like an open player (3 straight birds, including #1 which I parked) and then finished like a rec player (spelled with a W). :)
Congrats to Lago Local Steve Gottner for the Open win and my friend Matman for the CTP for half the Ace Pot. Since he's too modest to mention it, I'll say that Matt gave $23 out of his CTP money to the NSDGC club, which uses donations and memberships to do ALL the work on this course (weed eater and lawn mower gas, tables, trash bags and cans, basket flags, etc.). Thanks Matt. Also thanks to a dozen or so others who donated cash and winnings to NSDGC. You guys make this course what it is with your support.
We also collected some pledged money for the Solo Memorial and got some more pledged for the cause. I'll be updating that info in the a.m., but I'm pretty freakin tired now. :)
Thanks again for making this the best monthly mini, held on 1st Sundays, in Lago Vista! :) (Was that politically correct enough? :) )
As always the mini was great. **** triple boge killed me but at least I beat Atwoods score to save the little bit of dignity that I have left. :D

Mark is right it is very rewarding to me and other devoted NSDG members and volunteers to see the course full of people cheering good shots and cussing tough holes. It makes it all worth it.
Thanks for all of the donations by players showing their support of the mini's and our efforts in making this a kick *** course. Vinnie Milller 'RR" has found us a riding mower that we hope to repair and get mowing for minimum expense.
Cabo Logo was good and THANK YOU CTP winner Mattman for the queso and big donation. :cool:JP

I'm getting there buddy. :)
My confidence with the putter and my game in general has gone way up of late. Now I have to learn how to hang on to that confidence when the wind starts blowing. That's when I forget everything, because I am just never confident in knowing how to read the wind or proper disc selection. The wind is not my friend. :)

Yep, you saw correct Geno, and it ant the first time for this dog :D:DAs usual Mark GREAT JOB
Thanks Ricky. It always means a lot to me to see the support we get out there from you guys.
How many of you Lago faithful are gonna be able to make it to the first ever Burnet Monthly?
BTW, while I was out there working today, there were several people out playing the course that either just discovered it or have been coming out for a couple of weeks. We're starting to get some every day casual play. It makes me feel so good to see these folks out at this course and to hear the great things they are saying about it. So far, the "birdie course with teeth" take seems to be very popular. :)
Mark, I was wondering how deep the water in the creek is as of right now? Not that I plan to go in it but if put one of my main discs in I wouldn't be afraid to go in as long as the water isn't too deep.
Rocco, The creek is currently sitting at the level where it spends most of the year. In fact, earlier this winter was the first time I've ever seen it bone dry in the four years I've spent on the grounds of the Rec Center project.
What this means to golfers is that if you go in the water below #2 (rare), on #3 (unless you overshoot and are wet behind the green), behind #5, on #7 or along the fairway of #8 (unless you're too far past the actual basket), retreiving your discs should be no problem.
However, being wet on #1, #4, #6 or #9 likely means you won't get your disc out right away at best. The creek in those areas is deep and full enough (and currently kinda murky from the previous rains and runoff) that you can't spot your plastic in the water. As for getting in it, well, people do. Some discs do come back as we have a couple of local water dogs who have been taught good karma practices by a local golfer. :)
Think I'll go play a round of that Disc Golf stuff. Lago sounds nice this morning.
Sammit and I are gonna head out in a few and if anyone's out there, we'll see ya. :)

What's wrong with that thumber hole. And is that #1 or #3 you are complaining about ?
I like the new box for #1. Not as much as Sammitt liked it though. He missed a straight up the gut ace by inches on our tiebreaker hole. He won, no need to put up our scores. They were so good that we might make the rest of you feel bad.
I have no qualms about posting my score for the afternoon round of 9 in The Big B though. :)
-4 with no bogeys and birds on #1, #2, #7 and #9, with missed birdie putts (15 footers) on #4 and #6. Guess I'll have to play Open in the Burnet minis. :)
Looking for a big crowd on April 4th for 1st Sunday at Lago Vista. Only mini two chances left to practice up for the big Flying Solo Memorial.

Mark won by 3 strokes,
Okay guys and gals, it was another awesome day at Lago Vista. We had absolutley perfect weather with calm breezes and perfect temps.
We had 36 players, including a few that showed up a bit late due to the time change. For those who wonder why I always let late comers in, its simple. We've built this fun and successful monthly mini by letting everyone who wants to, play. Its quite a drive to get out there from anywhere in Austin and if someone drives out, I want them to be able to play. Would I like it if everyone that wants to play got there by 9? Absolutely! But, it doesn't happen and I want for folks to get to enjoy this great course and fun mini as much as I do.
Plus, I'm a swell guy. :)
So, here are your April scores.

Well, we started at $43. Martin Rendon, out of the kindness of his heart added $5. We had 35 players in the pot yesterday at $2 ea, which was $70. Ric hit the CTP for half, so we'll start with $59 on Saturday in the Big B!

LV Resort Course maintenance news. With all of the Spring rains everything is growing real fast. Duh! Our riding mower is repaired and running. We will be working the week and weekends of May 15th thru 23rd mowing, weedeating, cleaning, and grooming the course for the Flying Solo Memorial. This means we will schedule a work day and be asking for volenteers to help. Probably Sunday May 23rd to not conflict with COTO and TX 10. I know we can count on ROUND ROCK and others to come together for the cause.
As fast as things are growing and due to the man hours to groom the course little will be done until then. That means it will not be in the best of shape for the May 2nd HCF mini. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Tuesdays at Arrowhead is mostly just a bunch of locals that have only played the two Lago Vista courses and don't like the Resort because it is to hard and you don't go by your beer cooler every 5 holes. Many only carry 1 or 2 discs. They insist on playing in one group so nobody misses a good shot or a good joke. It is almost like playing wolf. Yesterday by the end of the round there were 18 players includung one woman and 2 kids. No entry fee, no prizes, just braggin rights. We try to start by 5 but people show and join all through the round. Some times it seems like it takes forever but is a lot of fun. :DJP

So can we play Arrowhead after the Lago mini this weekend??or is it still a no-no for non lago vistans.....either way I'll see you peeps sunday.
1st post ever?
nice.
welcome beyatch
I'll see all you folks in the morning. Remember, we're trying really hard to get everyone signed up by 9:00 a.m. so that we can tee-off by 9:30. Because its such a long drive, I hate to turn people away that are a few minutes late, when they take the time to drive out there, and many of them are the players who have supported us and made this one of the most popular monthly minis in Texas. But, sooner or later, I'm gonna have to start being a hardass on this, to avoid making those people who get there on time, wait for everyone else. Please try to be on time. I know there are some out of towners who are staying in Live Oak tonight after the ZLT10, who have expressed an interest in coming to Lago tomorrow on their way home. We'll try to hold things open for them, since we love people who haven't gotten to play our 1st Sundays before, getting the chance to do so. But, all you local regulars please do your best to get there by 9.
Remember, someone goes home with no less than 1/2 of the rolling Ace Pot each month, and don't forget the $50 course record bounty. That sucker is gonna fall soon, I can feel it. Vinnie? C-dub? You guys have been knocking on the door. C'mon and give us all a new number to shoot for. :)
Whew, long day. He11, it was a long weekend. I just got home. :)
I'll try to post scores tonight, but if I decide to sleep instead (a novel concept I recently read about), I'll get them up tomorrow.
Highlights included an -8 by Von Kreke to take Open honors, Vinnie Miller hitting the CTP for half the ace pot ($51.50), lots of wind (but not as bad as yesterday) and all 4 of our regular OMB's playing in other divisions (although Ric Johnson goes back and forth between MM1 and MA1) and all of them cashing except me. :)
I did end up playing Open, but I wasn't DFL and I didn't embarrass myself too bad.
I'll try to break out the laptop in a bit to get those scores up, unless I get too sleepy. :)

The donated repaired mower was delivered from south Austin to Lago Vista yesterday. I mowed the trail between 10 and 11 and down the hill on 11 so Ware can get his cart through. Whatever that kinf of plant is it is one tuff SOB. I tried mowing some of it off of the hump on 13 and it kicked my ***.
We will be mowing off and on till the 'Flyin Solo'.
There is still a lot of volenteer work we will need weedeating and mowing, mainly on 14. It is to rough for the riding mower and really grows up.
A clean up day is being planned for Saturday May 22nd and Sunday the 23rd. More info latter. As usual any and all help is appreciated. Anyone can come out any time and work just remeber to be safe.
