sharper than sh&t?? Thats not very sharp.............anyway, great day for golf...perfect weather, cold cold CFO's, great course, great people and last but not least, food & powling with all the side shows that go with it............looking foward to shooting a nice non-paying round and hanging with friends, unless of course I shoot in the 7-9 down range, then maybe, but we all know thats not going to happen.......so I'll just shoot my normal even to 2-down and have a blast........

the Cabinet has voted to provide meat (read: fajitas) for next Wednesday's after-round powling. Looking forward to some good chow whose main course isn't sausage.

We'll need some volunteers to round out the meal....the beans would be great for that....no matter how much my wife will hate me later that evening, heh.

Martin o Martin will you be attending? That sweet Pica is the BOMB!

Powling was.....shall we say....compromised.... there was a family cooking at the Pavillion when we got there. They graciously shared the grill and put up with our noise until we were almost done powling. I give them alot of credit for lasting that long, lol.

Wednesday March 16th we move back to the BIG COURSE!!

Sign up by 4:45pm @ hole number 1.

Tee @ 4:50pm

We are playing all 21 holes, playing from the short box on C hole.

As we gain more time, the start time / tee time will be pushed back to accommodate a 5PM Tee Time.

We are opening up with a 8 week random draw doubles league.

Ill be bringing a few CTP's to get us started off on the right foot, any others will be appreciated.

Mar 14 2011, 05:17 PM
OK so who is bringing food this week? Oh yeah! We're done with that, on to the big course! Actually i vaguely recall that when i started playing with the Double R in '03, we would start at hole 1 and after the round, drive over to the pavillion by #13 to do payout and hang out and cook/etc.

But anyway. I have a confession to make. I cheated yesterday! I took my daughter to a party yesterday near OSP and I had alot of time to blow, so I played the entire course starting at #1. The rust showed lol. Lets just say that when its windy (when is it NOT windy), it affects the big course holes more than the winter holes, lol.

I am SO ready for some doubles on the big course. How long I stay excited about doubles though, only time will tell. Heh

We should have till about 7:45 before it is to dark, so that will give us almost 3 hours to finish the round. As long as the draw works out well and no slow cards holding up any groups, we should be in good shape. We should get about 5 min more daylight every week so tomorrow will let us know if it is OK to push the start back to 5pm next week... Let's see how things workout as it is the Big Course and playin Doubles...

Have not seen anything about start time since this post above........we still at 4:50 start or is it 5pm but just not announced yet?? Or are we pushing it up to 4:45.......No problem on our card last week as we started at #3 and never looked back......but seems some cards finished close to dark....can't remember due to CFO's and getting done 20 mins before the next card rolled in.......does not matter to me....I'm going to be cutting it close again this wednesday.......

those in the top half of the crowd we have that day

johne
May 10 2011, 04:33 PM
that's what "pro/am" really means to a bunch of people who show up for our minis.....cause that's the only way to easily divide up the top half (the "pros", note the quotation marks), and the bottom half (the "ams").

johne
May 10 2011, 04:39 PM
speaking for myself, i like singles or handicap singles. Also like pro/am. One good point about which format to play is, weather....I would assume that as far as singles vs doubles goes, its preferable to do doubles at the hottest part of the summer and leave singles for the non-hottest part.....and that's something another cabinet member brought up the other day.... in the end, we voted and pro/am was what we came up with.

Lets do pro/am at least tomorrow, and also tomorrow, lets get a straw poll from everyone there as to what they want for the next league. If its overwhelmingly something other than pro/am....then we do what the majority wants! It should also be stated that other than one non cabinet member, we (cabinet) haven't heard much as far as suggestions...just reactions after a decision is made. Much preferrable to do what the majority of the MEMBERS want.

And of course, if you want it done your own way....by all means run for the cabinet next year.

An open meeting, as required twice a year in the by-laws, might be a good oportunity to get member feed back. Thought we were having one in Feb following the Bag Tag Challange, but I never heard anything & it's almost June.

If you're asking here, the same 7 people are gonna say the same thing we've said for years - doubles doesn't help my game any more than it does Vinnie's. I don't consider the weather when considering the format - if I'm competing, I'm playing sun, rain, wind, sleet, etc., so weather is just not a factor for me. & I find changing the format because of weather insulting (playing dubs on an announced singles night because it's too windy or there's a threat of rain - really, I'm gonna pull out of the Vibram because there's a freak snow storm in Sept in Mass - not so much). I understand we want big numbers at the mini - trust me - you asked for input, & I'm offering it.

If you're asking @ the mini - generally half the group cares & half the group wants to have fun & we all have trouble remembering what the ideas that so & so brought to us @ or before sign up by the time we finish the round. Also the group that cares is often put to he side because it's the voice of a few squeakie wheels that don't wanna just go with the heard continuing to play doubles.

Remember guys you were elected by your piers, they have trust in you that you will make the right decisions for the club. Members should be offering constant feedback in a positive manner, but unfortunately most ot the time it makes it's way to a public forum and is viewed as a negitive. Good, bad or indiffrent it's best to make decisoins and move on.

As far as earning money....you have to go South to play money minis. The Women Throwing Frisbees are starting their FUNdraising early for USWDGC. Our goal is to raise enough money to pay for all our entry fees to USWDGC a PDGA major September 16-18 2011 in Round Rock, TX. The 1st leg of FUNdraising starts this weekend at Deaf Nationals May 27-29 - right here in Austin, TX. We'll be selling limited edition (only 25 printed) WTF signing shirts - John Gold logo - and having a raffle.

That's where I need your help. Remember that box of discs you've got in the closet that you thought were so cool, but you'll never throw? The players pack items you've never even looked at? That gift your brother-in-law gave you that you'll never use? That gift card to the place you never shop? That's what I need from you - stuff that's cool, but just taking up space in your life. The WTF will happily take these donations & turn them into raffle prizes for this weekend. Anything you can donate will be spectacular.

I'll be @ the Wednesday Round Rock mini - if you can bring donations there SUPER (5:00 start). If not, lemme know & I'll arrange for you to meet with a WTF member in you area or you can mail directly to me @ 3232 Winding Way Round Rock,TX 78664. I'm south Tuesday & Thursday during the day this week too near WestGate & Western Trails if you wanna get together south. Thanx for the continued support of ladies disc golf in Texas -you ROCK!!!

See you in the fairway,

Just reported to parks dept. They were not aware of the missing basket. They had a lot of vandalism at the park this weekend. They stole a sink out of the bathroom and destroyed the soap dispensers. I don't know about the rest of y'all but the putting on my card yesterday was atrocious. Scores?

Jun 02 2011, 11:20 AM
yea what he said.. I say we play 12 to 15's basket then I would have gotten the bird. also we need the paint stick and some paint so we can mark the right side of C hole and 4's OB to the street. still see people playing from the tall grass on the right side by C's basket.

edman
Jun 02 2011, 11:29 AM
I have the paint sitick and will try to get out to the park before next Wednesday to mark it. What are the chances of going back to random draw nistead of pro-am? It seems that there is hardly even numbers for there to be the correct mix of pro-am teams.

Lala
Jun 02 2011, 02:48 PM
Our card thought 12-14 was fine. Carroll parked it - not dumber than regular 12.

Agree with Edman the Pro Am sux - 2 of the 3 weeks I've played there's been a mix up with the cards and there's either been a re-draw or tons of confusion & there's like 3 people that are real Pro players. Maybe if we changed the name to "I think I'm gonna shoot lights out/I think I'm still gonna blow by 30 feet on my putts doubles" it would seem better defined.

I disagree with can we go back to random draw - is doubles really all people are telling the cabinet they want to play (other than me & Vinnie)? I get that it's hot & the course is big, but there's got to be something better than doubles 2-3 times a week.

mware
Jun 02 2011, 03:00 PM
Wednesday ACE POT moves to $300....

The cabinet has voted to increase the Wednesday Ace pot by $50 increaments.

The plan is to always maintain a $250 backup Ace Pot - as the Backup increases by $50 - this will roll into the current Ace Pot.

Next Wednesday will have $300 ace pot w/ a $279 backup - if we get 21 player on the 8th - the Ace Pot on the 15th will go to $350 w/ a $250 backup...

It's time to hit big money...

Jun 07 2011, 04:24 PM
I’ve been working with the cabinet and the parks dept. on the stolen basket for getting it replaced. The Parks dept. accidently ordered a discatcher (yellow band) instead of a Mach3 which is throughout the course. In order to keep consistent with the course Kinney has asked if we can put the new basket at A hole and put the A hole basket at hole 12. That way the regular 18 holes are the same and the a, b, and c holes will be the same. We will get some help from the Parks dept. at removing the snapped off pole and concrete on hole 12 tomorrow. The plan is to meet at A hole about 3:30 and remove it and re-plant it at hole 12 before the mini. The Parks dept is supplying the concrete and if the basket shows up in time they will re-plant it at A hole. So we need some volunteers to come out and help with this. JD will be leading it up I talked with him earlier. JohnE if you could send a text out that would be great.

Just trying to change things up and keep things fresh... Please let the cabinet member on your card know your feedback.

Thanx Mike. Sux we're playing singles the one week I can't come - Emo's is calling. Should have played singles last night - I'd for sure have whooped ya'lls a$$es without Ware holding on for dear life with his drunk self:).

JK - Ware good shooting, we complimented each other well for 2 players that can throw far as hell, but can't putt worth a sheet.

Hey Cabinet...........we still playing singles tomorrow night?? And if so, are we drawing cards to set the foursomes?? And the draw will be a group draw?? Meaning you might be on a card with a pro, advanced, am, master whatever?? Or are we drawing by division to set the foursomes?? No big deal just wondering how yall are going to handle this one.......I'm sure you guys have thought this one thru.....And if yall could order cooler temps and some drizzle that would be great as well........don't forget your CTP's

Will probably stop by to drink a beer but not staying for the round.

I personally think keeping the draw simple is the way to go...
3 to card (if you can make it work) and all up draw.

Best mini I ever missed. Had plans to see Hate Eternal @ Emo's but unexpect costs on Fairlane meant no Emo's. Got off work too late to make the mini, but in time for buy the beer get the glass @ Homefield... What beer you might ask? Ah yes - Stone IPA:) :). Couldn't have asked for anything more. Great beer & a sweet pint glass to add to the mix.

Sounds like singles was a blast - sure wish I could have made it - although I'd have a hard time making a 3 person division of FPO @ a Wednesday mini:).

Not sure how this happened but AFTER the round was over somehow I was in a mass challange with C. Ware, Mike Ware & JD.........nothing said before the round about it, but still had to give up my new tag............and being that I got the Tag (#4) on Monday at Northtown from C Ware, i have a feeling that was what caused the for-mentioned MASS challange with C. Ware......as for Mike & JD being in it as well......I have no answer for that one.....so just FYI, if you have a low numbered tag, don't talk about it after the round.......or you might get pulled into a mass challange....

See what happens when you drink to many CFOs :-)

If you take the Mass challenge out of the equation.

You started the round w/ #4 - You were on my card - You shot a higher score than me - you lost your #4 tag... All that had nothing to do w/ Mass Challenge.

Jun 27 2011, 10:18 AM
last time i checked the rules state display tag not ensure everyone knows what tag you have and who has tags. its real easy on hole 1 you say "who has a tag" then after you are done while counting the scores you swap tags .. not wait until the beginning of the next round or when some ******* finally remembers he won and forgot to swap tags. if your tag suxs then ensure you swap to get a better one its not the lower tags responsibility to ensure you get the lower tag its YOUR responsiblity.. TAGS are a JOKE. I have one its 25 so anytime i play whether it be singles doubles 1 tag or 6 tags, side challeges or whatever...like the RR city motto states "GAME ON"

Say Big Arm, I think you may be reading the formate wrong. I think the 8-13 holes are alt using the worst drive. At least that's how I interpreted the wording. The worst drive is before the forward slash that has dubs after it...Is that correct Mike
