Definately good times last night. Had a blast powling on the 2nd round. Steve-o is definately working you stiffs for some serious lunch $. I think I got him last night though. He loaned me $1 to get in, talked him to spotting me another dollar for a gutter putt which I kept, and side bet him that I would win rd. 2 for what he loaned me. Good times bro...good times. Carroll doesn't know #**# about sidebetting.

Hey gang.......Not real sure what time it was yesterday when the sun went down, but it sure seemed way before 6pm. I hate time change. I heard Ware say this week we TEE at 4pm?? that leaves less than 2-hours to complete course?? Can't remember what we did last year, but somehow, 3:45 tee time is stuck in my head. I know with time change the group will get smaller and therefore should go faster....so I guess we just play this week and move tee time if we finish in the dark??

Match play this week - cards should be done in about an hour and a half or so (even the slow people). Will move back after this week if needed - days get shorter until mid December, so it may be 3:30 sooner than we think.

ok on to the important stuff: what are we eating during powling???

anyone want to do chili dogs?

anyone want to do chili dogs?

that sounds good to me!!

dogs
chili - JohnE
buns
onions - JohnE
cheese
fritos
paper plates - JohnE

i'll bring the chili and a camp stove to heat it up in. Will also bring diced onions and paper plates.

This reminds me....we might have better success with the food bringin' if we were to take a collection during each powling session, for food for the NEXT week. Then, one person can get all the grub. I'd be glad to volunteer to take up the collection and get the food for the rest of this year. Or perhaps the "collection" could account for the main dish, and others still bring sides. Those that like to eat the most during powling, lets talk tomorrow.

So for tomorrow we need buns, dogs, cheese, and fritos.

I'll be bringing a couple racks of ribs and the puter

last week i hung on to the leftover hot dog buns, mustard, and ketchup. So, I'll bring those, some paper plates, I'll pick up some (gulp) sausages and dogs, and will bring a bag of coals in case we need 'em.

someone could pick up some tortillas, and perhaps some of those cheap Chicken Thigh Marinated Fajitas from HEB......if you are bringing something but can't post, give me a shout/text 512x296x5277 and i can pass that info onto the board here.

V, I haven't gotten around to making it so more players can be added on the fly.....YET. But, i'll get that done soon. Easy workaround, just open a 2nd powling browser window and switch back/forth, similar to how it used to be done with the spreadsheet.

johne
Nov 11 2009, 12:48 PM
Rene, in a lot of ways, Powling is what defines the fun-ness factor of Wednesdays when daylight savings time is not in effect. Even if you can't make the start of the mini, people can still come out, get some holes in if so desired, and then hang out after the mini is over where we cook stuff on the grill, POWL, and just hang out in general. We'll be doing this till the time changes again in....march or april whenever that is. C'mon down and give it a try....its pretty fun. Powling is like regular bowling, but u do it with putter and a basket. There's a lane, and front/back/left/right OB's which we consider 'gutters'. We keep score just like regular bowling, with the carry-over scoring rules applied........possible scores are strike, spare, gutter (and that's it).

Tomorrow for powling the club will buy fajita meat and torts. The club tries to do this a couple times a year and since next week is a short work for most it makes sense to do this tomorrow. I ask that everybody that plans on staying around to bring something to go with fajitas. LT could you bring some of that famous sauce of yours? Rice and beans would also be a nice treat. Sound off so everyone knows what to plan on bringing.

28 players - 17 Pro, 11 Am and 1 huge ace for $1000 by my honey, Lala. I think we finally shut her up fellas. Tables turned a little bit on her though. She's always bichen about nobody hitting the ace pot and not being able to give some of the Wed. ace pot $ away. Guess she got her some of her own medicine.

OK, so I didn't want to steal all the holiday cheer for myself, so the cabinet has voted to keep the ace pot @ $1000 this year. We'll see what's left if it gets hit again in the next 3 weeks.

Really, I just want a chance for Edman to get one so my family will have racked in $2500 in 3 1/2 weeks - that's a joke, but if Edman hits it it was a prediction :)

Better hurry up and get the charcoal quick. Only 3 more losses to go and the 'Girls will have fullfilled their density. Maybe Tony should talk to Rivers in SD. He is unbeaten in Dec. since coming into the league. Maybe the 'Girls fans will get what they need to win next year...some discipline. Until the days are longer, when you are handed a card, find the other people on you card, go to your hole & start. There's another card starting on that hole in 3-5 minutes. Not starting when assigned is causing back ups & late finishes.

Starting next week, if you don't stay to get your payout, it will be donated to the club fund & used for course improvements/member enjoyment (unless you have an actual emergency). You've committed to the mini when you sign up & tracking payout holdover is not one of the free services offered by the mini committee. I know you have places to go & people to see, but if you want your money, you'll hang out - other wise it's gone.

Wow! Might not even need to cook on the grill! (but if we do, i've got coals in my truck!).

I'll pick up 2 bags of fresh Hogie buns from HEB, thats about 16 total. With that many meatballs will probably need at least 2 more bags o buns.

fyi at HEB, the fresh hoagie buns are located in the bakery section not in the bread aisle.

I've got a salmon filet that I can bring spiced in foil ready to cook. It's a little fancy for powling, but with homemade meatball subs, home made burgers, fajitas, homemade salsa etc. having replace the regular sausage fest you boyz have brought out in years past, I'm up for it. It's only a pound, so we'll need to keep going if we're gonna have 20something people powling again. Could do fish tacos if ya'll want to bring torts, salsa, cheeze & stuff, then we could throw on some of the long lost links from years past to compliment the fish :)

What about that ace beer Rodney - & I don't mean no light beer :) & Webster never brought any ace beer either - that's right he only got a partial ace pot... nice job Steve-O

If we hit another ace & give away another grand tonight, we will have had to have set a record for the most money paid out at club mini's in a month - what a streak we've got goin - come on honey get out of work on time...3:45 last card starts.

We've only allowed that during singles to try & draw more ladies. Now that the format is randomized without singles (for a while) the payout will go to your partner & you can collect it from him/her when you see them next.

20 players no aces - great turn out for 1st week in Jan, bad weather, & low ace pot - thanx for the ace beer Eric. The ace pot wil stay @ $250 - which is what it used to be in the way back machine - and continue to build back up. Looks like we can push the start time back as I heard even Metal Mike's card finished with daylight to spare.

12 people at powling w/one basket & I heard there was tons of great food - as always. Edman is having a hard time making it to golf & I can't get from work to the house to pick up a basket in time, so someone else needs to pack up their portable & bring it for the second lane.

Scores.............as you know, 20-players no ace's last nite
JD & Eric 44 split 28.00
Martin & Steve O 46 split 18.00
Bryan,LT,Justin, Anthony 47 split 14.00
4-teams at 50 1-team at 52 and 1-team at 56........
Got to watch Eric & JD go on a long birdie run.......they were on last nite except for #13 (real #9) otherwise they were looking at course record 13-down......
Powling was great as allways with Zac (my carroll) showing us how to dink & dunk our way to money with only 1-stike(laying up).....Then in the second game Rusty came out on fire with 4-stikes to start the game, then went as cold as an iceberg but hung onto win by 5-points I think............food was great, thanks to all that brought food and to Eric who brought beer from his ace win last week...............
Next week we will tee by 3:50 or so and will move it back to 4pm on the 20th of this month.............
format for this wednesday 1/13 will be alternate (2-man draw)........but don't worry, everyone will still get their run at ace's...........you can both tee, but whom ever was in line to shoot next, thats the disc you play no matter what the other guy/gal does on their throw......say its your turn to throw on b-hole, you throw, then your partner throws and hits an ace, nice for him/her and he/her gets the ace money, but you still have to finish the hole using your tee shot cause it was your turn...........simple right??
If you have any questions in regards to this format, save them for wednesday and I will answer all your questions.............have a great weekend, don't get caught outside for to long and most of all HOOK-EM HORNS tonight..........see yall next week......

OK - a little mix on alternate this week. Because we have an Ace Pot, we can't play true alternate. You'll draw cards @ 3:45 for partners & start hole & we'll play alternate with a twist. Both partners will drive every tee box & you'll choose the better of the 2 lies to play alternate out from there. IE: If Cdub & Rusty are partners, both drive off the box & Cdub parks the hole, Rusty will throw the next shot - they'll alternate out from there until someone makes the putt.

Justin/Jason & JD/Mike b 53 all split 15.00 (had to be there to get paid and some left)

24-total players last nite, nice turn out again,I wonder what 666 will pull in next week!!

Highlights...............Getting to watch a top 25 club member (Eric M) put on a show while dragging LT around the course....I should note here that LT was holding his own till Bryan slammed him with an errant tee shot on #8.....after that, it was all Eric, thus his rise to top 25 in the club status..........Rusty & Paul cashing, enough said on that one.

Low lights..................Joe & Ware 2 coming in DFL.......Question is now, Is John EEEE looking for a new partner for world doubles?? We will see in the coming weeks...

Powling............This is were things get a little fuzzy (Knob Creek fuzzy)......from what I remember, and for most of powling thats not much as everyone had to tell me when it was my turn and what lane is was in.......Rusty comes out on top for the second week in a row and yours truely and Ware 2 (dfl man) came in second.............in game #2, knob creek took over and I have no clue, but i think Zac won it or was it JD, who knows, but whom ever it was shot over 200............game #3.........sorry but no help here, as Knob was doing its job...............but all in all, another great time with the Double R gang........looking forward to another great time next week....until then, stay in the fairway and hammer chains..................or Knob Creek, your choice!!

Jan 15 2010, 12:03 PM
Not sure what the others are thinking, but I think with the format we have next week 666, that we sign up by 3:50 and tee by 4pm......???.......and with the weather predicted to be in the low 70 with a 30% chance of rain.......tee @ 4pm just might work........thoughts????? Speaking of 666, anyone have score cards made up for this format???

seewhere
Jan 15 2010, 12:59 PM
I will send you scorecards for 6,6,6 send me an email with what format goes with what holes.. starting at 4:00 sounds good. just remember if you have a cali it gets a little tougher to play 6,6,6 :)

Will not be in front of my computer tomorrow due to awards benefit for contractors from 10am - 2pm...............format for tomorrow is 666.........if raining (slight chance) we might resort back to doubles...........our bad weather format...............hope everyone can make it, should be loads of fun.........and remember, I am watching and reporting each week about wednesday nights.......and the report can & could get longer!!!!! So if you something special (good or bad) your name might appear on this page..........see ya!!

so are we cooking????

Well, if push comes to shove......then its going to be a CFO dinner, and I have no problem with that one ever!!! But as seen in the past......people show up with grub and baskets, so when the round is over and I see no fire or baskets, then I'll know its CFO time....that will be a sad thing, but we can handle it......

Another outstanding night at the Rock.............scores and highlights

Eric M & Bryan 46 split 28.00

CWare/Keith Zac/Bull ET/PaulW 47 split 44.00

Vinnie/Matty LT (solo mission) 48 split 15.00

Nice scores from everyone last nite.....666 (when played right) seems to have been a hit with the club. Played on a 6-man card last nite and finished with daylight to spare...
Highlights
Vinnie hits an ace on #10, nice shot...................so the ace pot runs a little less today and maybe the lowest it has been in many many years...........and thats a good thing....
lowlights
Rusty & Patti brought up the rear with a smoking 59........but they had fun, thats for sure....
Powling
Even though there was no food to cook, we still had a nice turn out for powling......Ed-Man takes game #1 And I believe Zac took game #2........and for the first time since I can remember, I did not bring enough beer with me.....had to drink water on the way home..........but that might have been a good thing..........

29 total players last nite............I guess no-one has a job right now.............

Oh well, see you guys on a course somewhere this weekend, or next wednesday, which ever comes first................Later.....

Another outstanding night at the rock...............Not sure this is the first time this has happened, can't remember another time anyway, but last night every team shot below par.............even Rusty and Camper.............

scores
LT JD Parker Bryan 45 split 44.00
Matty Mike B 46 split 13.00
Zac Jon ET Blair 47 split 9.00
22-total players last night.....did not hear of an ace............

Had another disc attack us on #8, this time from JD and a wayward roller.....C-Ware was able to move just enough to avoid injury, but his cart took the hit.......No worries as LT made the putt from around 60ft to save the birdie........Got to meet the three J's last nite (newest members)......something about airing out their car........nice!!
Powling was again the place to be afterwards..........grill was going (thanks John EEEEE)
and sausage and burgers (thanks Ed-Man & Lala).........also thanks to C-Ware for the buns and torts as well as Rusty for the torts and Sausage (that never made it out of the cooler).............1st game was close all the way through with ET making a late push to victory......Game number 2 saw JD work his layup magic and limp arm his way to victory............Game number 3 (this is the one were big dollars changed hands) saw Ed-Man turn it up a notch and cruise to the victory............Sorry I can't remember who came in second in any of these games, but then again, who cares who came in second..
The one word that comes to mind every time we play powling and is shouted over and over thru out the nite is GUTTER!!! God that game is the bomb......Thanks to V for running the show, and getting us going by naming lanes before the match.......maybe some spray paint would work better............well until next week, hope to see ya in a fairway at some point and if not, keep it straight and bang some chains........Later!!

no rumor but wont be there today as I am in a meeting until 4:00 and since they just layed off 466 folks last weds and 2 from the group I am in, I think my JOB is a little more important then golf. Hence why I could not get to brushy until after 4:00 yesterday. Dont worry I will be playing golf. Probably more then you use too when you had #1 ,,, prior to your recent job change.. ;) not sure if you know but I play automatic challenge from the guy who just lost it next time they are playing at the same place. Dont worry I will call you friday after 4:00 and let you have a shot at it.. good times yesterday and that course is allot tougher with some water... .
