For all the talk of unpredictability at the 26th Annual Texas State Disc Golf Championships, Ricky Wysocki, fresh off a triumphant battle with Paul McBeth at The Open at Belton, came into this week’s event as a clear favorite and exited as the season’s first PDGA National Tour champion.

Moreover, he looked firmly in control in the process.

TYLER, Texas — Moments after Hailey King grabbed the first PDGA Elite Series victory of her young career, she responded in typical fashion.

“Well, this is cool,” she said, a smile growing across her face on the 18th green at the 26th Annual Texas State Disc Golf Championship presented by Latitude 64.

Over the course of 54 holes, including a final lap through the daunting Dogwood track where the first PDGA National Tour title of 2021 was up for grabs, King let her game do the talking in typical fashion: Aggressive and relaxed.

The best players in the world don’t like to leave anything up to chance. Sitting atop the mountain, they’d prefer to just let the best man win.

The Dogwood course, site of the 26th Annual Texas Disc Golf Championship, has other ideas. With walls of trees and twisting narrow fairways, Dogwood delivers more than enough surprises to thwart even the most meticulously prepared competitors.

TYLER, Texas — Hailey King battled through the elements to find herself atop the leaderboard heading into final round of the 26th Annual Texas State Disc Golf Championship.

But just like her approach to Saturday’s back nine after a heavy rain fell on the Dogwood course in Tyler, King knows that the first PDGA National Tour event of the season is far from over.

TYLER, Texas — A couple of par putts helped sparked the co-leaders of the 26th Annual Texas State Disc Golf Championship presented by Latitude 64.

Yes, par putts.

Jeremy Koling got his only miscue of the day out of the way early in his round and his bid was enough fuel for the fire. Casey White, meanwhile, connected on a big putt right out of the gate and he was off to the races.

TYLER, Texas — Rebecca Cox stood over her putt on the 18th hole and trusted her game.

It was a plan that had worked out well up until that point, and it continued to hold true until her putter came to rest in the bottom of the 18th basket.

Cox navigated the tight and twisting fairways of the Dogwood course at Lindsey Park with stellar play off the teebox, taking a two-stroke lead after the first round of the 26th Annual Texas State Disc Golf Championship presented by Latitude 64.
