Memorial Moving Day

Memorial Moving Day

Friday, March 5, 2010 - 20:44

There is an old saying that the cream always rises to the top and today was no exception during round 3 of the Memorial Championship. Josh Anthon continued his great play of late when he carded an 1109 preliminary rated round of -15 at Fountain Hills on Friday to propel himself from the second card into a three throw lead over Dave Feldberg with 18 holes left to play on Saturday. Feldberg had the best round on the lead card with a -12, while second round leader Nikko Locastro carded a -8. Cardmates Cale Leiviska and Paul McBeth struggled on the day to fall off the lead card. Ken Climo had a very hot -12 while playing with Anthon, which moved him onto the final showcase group. The power house foursome of Anthon, Feldberg, Climo, and Locastro have proven that they are the cream of the sport and there is no wonder why they find themselves playing together for the title.

Des Reading had her best round of the event with a +1 to take a two throw lead over Liz Carr who turned in a +6 on the day. Joining them on the lead card for Saturday’s final round at Vista Del Camino will be Melody King and Liz Lopez who are 4 and 6 throws off the lead respectively.

Masters division second round leader, Robert Ryan carded an even par round today to surrender the lead to the Alabama duo of Dean Tannock and Tim Keith, who both shot -5 to share the lead with one round remaining. Brad Hammock had the best round of the day with a -9 to join the lead group but he will have to continue this great play if he is to make up the 3 throw deficit to Ryan and 5 throw deficit to the co-leaders.

Jim “No Spin” Myers extended his lead to eleven throws over second place and looks to cruise to the Grandmasters title in the final round. Dr. Rick Voakes maintains a five throw lead over Snapper Pierson in the Senior Grandmasters division.

Windy conditions are forecast at Vista Del Camino for Saturday’s final round which could open the door for some movement in all of the races. The Men’s open lead group is once again scheduled to tee off at 1:45pm.
