Just saw this on Facebook, from Gordon:

Our disc golf family has tragically lost another member. Clay Brumit, from the DWF area, unexpectedly passed away recently. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

Clay Brumit's memorial service will be this Saturday, 1/29 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at First United Methodist Church of Hurst, 521 W. Pipeline, Hurst, TX.

I didn't know him but I know alot of y'all did. I'll remember him as the guy who CRUSHED #18 at CircleR Meadows for an easy 3 from the pro box, when we were all warming up on a Friday before Tx Teams.

Rolled up to hole 1 to putt and was approached by RRPD and he informed me that there have been 3 break ins today, and several this week. I had rolled up on a lady who left her purse in the passenger floorboard and they broke in and snagged everything. Keep you valuables out of sight, or better yet not with you, and keep your eyes peeled for anything suspicious. We need to keep our park safe, and our presence can make a difference!

Club helping w/scorings, spotting, setting up lunch, escorts, caddies, juniors, etc. - thank you. I'd also like to offer an extra big thanx to 1st time staffer Ryan Hise (now known as monkey boy) without you things would not have run as smoothly - thank you for all you did all 3 days. If Ryan ever asks if he can help you - the answer is yes, trust me. Also my caddie Steve-O, thanx for helping me stick to the PROgram. Laying up is hard - esp on the leader card, with a gallery (mostly club members - thanx) & being filmed all 21 holes. But it got me 4th place, so for now, I'm sticking with the PROgram. :) I'll remember I'm a good putter soon, but being back on the top card was really what I needed to keep the plan moving - September, here I come!!! :)

The currently discussed OB has been presented to the PARD & we are only awaiting a final walk thru for overall approved by the city through a series planning meeting involing all levels of the PARD in refrence to & in preparation for the 2011 USWDGC. Several cabinet member have been invited to these meeting & have unfortuantel not been available to attend as of yet.

The city owns the course & any disc golfer or comunity member with enough free time can devolpe ideas & propose them to the city for approval & implementation.

The decision on if these implements are to be used in our minis is a cabinet decision.

Course changes - that I'm aware of, but I didn't look - are not detailed in our by laws (don't think we ever got that far). I don't think Vinnie, or any other club member, has the right to go out & cut down a tree or relocate a basket - as has unfortunately happened in the past (like 2 or 3 years ago with the B-hole mistake). Dbl R doesn't own the course we only have positive power on our side as an organization opposed to an individual making course recomendations to the PARD.

The changes under current discussion however are not permanent changes to the course - no cutting, moving pins permanatly, etc. They are temporary additions to be utilized for tournament play - and club play if approved by the cabinet.

ARCH on #9...

The OSP Parks and Rec informed me that there is a process that must be adhered to before making any course modifications - this includes making the recommendation for a change, meeting w/ the Parks & Rec employees to discuss and then the Parks and Rec can approve or disapprove the changes. They said this has been the standard protocol and they have worked w/ Ed in the past.

Please inform the cabinet of any course modification ideas so we can follow proper procedures in the future. If this is not in the Club By-Law, I hope to soon make it 1.

The Arch on #9 I was told was being removed - He said that his Arborist would have freaked out if he saw that the PVC was screwed into the trees - thus he was removing immediately before he saw it.

Vinnie, everyone appreciates the work you've done for OSP and the game itself. No one would argue against that! The point is that at some point, the city will take notice, because some things matter more to them than others. The arch w/screws into the tree is one of those that would matter.

Lala
May 10 2011, 06:04 PM

Mike as much as I agree with you regarding folowing the proper procedure & disagree with Vinnie's often renagade approach, the cabinet does not legally regulate the course - the PARD does.

Any citizen or interested party can utilize this process - club member or not. It's simple - we don't own the course regardless of how much blood, sweat, tears, money, or merchandise we pour into it.

Amending our by-laws will not change the fact that anyone can make reccomendations to the city for changes & improvements to the course & work on their own agenda to carry them out. What could be helpful & discourage this renagade behavior is disciplinary action for those failing to follow proper procedure (IE screws into a tree, moving a basket without approval, etc.).

mware
May 10 2011, 06:50 PM
This seems to be a catch 22 as you put it...

1. the fact that anyone can make reccomendations to the city for changes & improvements to the course & work on their own agenda to carry them out.
2. What could be helpful & discourage this renagade behavior is disciplinary action

So we have 2 options:
A. Pass a by-law that asks club members to work w/ the cabinet for OSP course changes
OR
B. Pass a by-law that invokes disciplinary action for members that do not follow protocol

Based off your point that anyone can recommend changes (which I get it) - not sure how the club could even track this especially when the person does not follow the proper protocol so hard to know who it was - we would have to assume it was V :-)

My thought was that all members should lobby the cabinet and let the cabinet be the voice. I see your point and it is atleast something that would drive the right behavior.

Lala
May 11 2011, 10:41 AM
You're seeing half my point - the club has chosen not to run tournaments. This leaves event planning to local promoters 4The Chains, Team Justice, Wanna Play, WTF, Edman & V, etc. Almost all of these groups have club members as their organizer. It's difficult to say "We don't wanna run any tournaments, but we wanna be your voice to the city/county/MUD." You're just not involved at that level right now.

In the case of the USWDGC stuff, the cabinet - or portions of it - have been invited to EVERY planning meeting & has not been available for even one to this point. The club has not been invited to ANY cabinet meetings. The cabinet has been invited to the planning meetings with the city & has not been availalbe. I don't think the cabinet was invited to the county & the MUD meeting, but everyone's frenzy seems to be over OSP - no one said anything about the changes we made to Cat Hollow. This lack of availabliity makes it difficult to have the cabinet be our voice - you're not there to talk to @ the event meetings, the club isn't invited to participate @ any of your meetings & you're not there to be the voice of the promoter at the planning meetings.

I'm not baggin' on you guys - I know what it takes to do what you're trying to do & them some - I'm just saying you can't regulate reactively, you have to be involved (as a group - not a personal attack). Vinnie did something stupid - not the 1st time & prob not the last. He's got his ways of doing things & he feels that's the only way to get things done. We've tryed for years to control his passion & train him to use the right pathways - it's hard to train a donkey. We've made a lot of progress with V, but lost a lot when the club (Edman & I w/help from a few club members) stopped running the tournaments - the club kinda lost face there in my opinion.

Again - I don't disagree with you - no one should be making changes to the courses without going through the proper channels. No one should dig up a basket & move it, or put screws in trees, etc. But the focus shouldn't be on just the one course we play weekly - our mission includes Williamson & Northern Travis County. If the cabinet is to be the voice to the city/county/MUD (Wilco, RR, NTP, GT, Brushy Creek, etc.) then they need to get engaged with the planning of the events on these courses. If you just wanna stamp your feet over OSP, you're missing the mark by a mile.

My point is we should promote the process for course updates to stay in good standings w/ the cities...

Rant On:
WOW - How the hell do I get off this cabinet... It seems everyone has their own agenda - mine is to represent the members and make the Double R a fun club. I believe everyone has good intentions but the way things are communicated via this discussion board come off very harsh.

Why I am on the cabinet: I just asked for 2 years to see the finales - What comes in and what goes out - got nothing so I decided I would run and now it is easy for club members to see the finance.

I did not realize being a cabinet member would/should require attending ~1/2 dozen different city meeting, Mud meeting, cabinet meetings, etc... a month or whatever it is... I have new born twins it wont happen, sorry I ran

I take back my other statement Cabinet (me - I only speak for myself) does not want to be the voice - just thought it would help - I see it does not.

Sorry for posting as I think I am done with all these threads or should we call it the daily drama - I pass the baton to another cabinet member - it's in the air now, someone catch it and good luck.

Rant Off: :-)

Someone from the cabinet (not me) will post when the open meeting will be for all to participate soon.

You guys need to stop. You are only hurting the future of disc golf in RR and slowing down progress on us moving forward. Lala I've told you and asked you on several occasions to quit approaching the cabinet this way because there is no benefit to anyone on the outcome. Pointing out obvious things in your opinion may not be so obvious to everybody else. So quit it. I thought you enjoyed not having not to manage the day-to-day for the club, obviously not. You guys call people out that could have legal repercusions with no care in the world. Why don't all of take the time you are spending griping about stuff and write a letter to a potential sponsor or something positive for the events coming to RR. This is shameful and you should all be banned from the board with your BS.

Poor snakes.....just hanging out with their young, when some disc golfers come by and murder them for no reason..........yall are going to do what you do, but I don't agree with it and do not practice killing just for the sake of killing. I have killed rattle snakes when hunting cause I have almost stepped on them, but we cleaned them and put them on the pit.........and ate them..........never had water snake before due to the fact I don't kill them unless I'm hunting..........they don't bother me so I don;t bother them...

I think his point is that he eats what he kills - rattle snakes included. Snakes do play a valuable role in the circle of life - eating rats for example - & maybe we should only be killing snakes when they're a threat to humans. I'm not informed of the circumstances regarding the most recent snake deaths, & quite frankly snakes scare the crap outta me. I do agree that we should leave them alone whenever possible rather than seeking them out to kill.

Never killed a deer (really), and birds (Dove & Quail) have killing seasons for a reason, not to mention how good they taste wrapped in bacon and put on the pit......never seen a SNAKE hunting season before in my Texas Wildlife Book......but if there was one I don't think I would walk around looking for them........I just don't believe in it as far as snakes are conserned.......everyone to their own belief....thats why I walked away during its murder....................

Big news that many of you already know, Round Rock & the Double R Disc Golf Club have been awarded the bid for 2011 US Women's Nationals. Round Rock's 1st major. With our little TWC having 100 ladies play in 2010, I can't imaginge the draw USWDGC will have for us. Vinnie & Edman have done a great job promoting ladies disc golf over the years & USWDGC should be amazing. Only with your help can we pull this tremendous event off in Round Rock style. It is set for fall 2011 & planning is well under way. If you'd like to get on board with this production, contact Edman & Vinnie.

Hope to see you in the fairway soon,

Lala

It's been almost a year since this was 1st posted & I wanted to bring it back to the front - we're less than 4 months out. I hope most of you got the entry form & sponsorship request letter (from me & Gordo) earlier this week - if not, lemme know, I'll add you to the list. Go to www.dblrdgc.com for more details - this page is updated regularly (thanx Manny). You can sign - up to staff @ this link too http://www.wdgmpc.com/uswdgc.html (thanx Steve Dodge). On line entry is available on the PDGA website.

WOW - you guys knock my socks off every time. Great turn out, great people, & great times yesterday @ the WTF FUNdraiser. Not only were we able to meet our FUNDraising goal, but we also exceded our FUNraising goal:).

CTP's for tourneament entry fees just kept coming in. Congrats to James McNair of North Shore Disc Golf winning the MET Center Open entry, Justin Davis takes the Blue Skis entry, & Daniel "Super D" Temple takes both the Tangle Foot & Outlaws entry - throwing it in for Outlaws.

We've been asked to submit an article to the magazine about the WTF & our fundraising efforts. If you've got pics from yesterday's event, please send them to me @ coffeydiscgolf@yahoo.com or post an album to the Women Throwing Frisbee's Facebook page.

There is a few unsung hero’s out there that need to be recognized for going above and beyond at this weekend’s successful event:

JD Baker, Steve-o, Blake, Martin and C-dub. I can’t thank you enough for doing what you guys did. From setting the course up Thursday, to obtaining all the food, making sure we had safe food handling practices, to organizing activities related to the hosp. area, to assisting and printing the caddy books and for motivating other Double R members to help out. You guys are top knotch and you need to be commended for your efforts. This did not go unnoticed, so thank you very much

Women Throwing Frisbee’s is also an incredible bunch of ladies that spent countless hours planning this event. They donated $1800 cash and $1000 in merchandise. Stephanie Vincent’s vision with the assistance of Laura Coffey and the other WTFer’s was quite impressive. The fundraising tournaments that were held to acquire funds were not easy and again I commend the entire group for stepping up and showing the nation how we do it in Texas. I will be stepping down as a tournament director after 10 years of doing this for a much needed break and return to civilian life. I look forward to yelling… FOUR at all of you from behind you in the fairway.

This is an FYI for all golfers and their families/friends/ETC

My company BMC West is having a garage sale tomorrow from 7am till 3pm.
1920 E. Whitestone Blvd (between 183A & Parmer lane)

some of the items for sale at low low prices (all money earned goes to Light The Nite)
Doors, trim boards, windows, casings, lumber, decking, sheathing, deck boards, ETC.

If you have any home remodel/repair needs and want to save big dollars, stop by and take a look at all the items up for grabs. Its first come first serve....

An again this is to support the Light The Night blood cancer fund...

I converted my cart to solid tubes on all three tires. If anyone is planning on doing that to theirs any time soon, let me know, i have about 2' left over; to do the two back tires all you need is one "26 inch" solid tube from walmart for $20. That combined with my left over 2' section should be enough to do two back tires, assuming they are 16" diameter like mine are.

lilbigarm
Nov 09 2011, 12:43 PM
is it really called a solid tube cause thats kinda funny.

seewhere
Nov 09 2011, 03:50 PM
their called no more flats.. but it is a solid ruberb tube versus a tube that needs air.

John did it take 2 26" to do all 3 tires?

Nov 10 2011, 03:32 PM

Congrats to some Round Rockers from sunday. Jimmy Z wins open at Rivery and pockets some nice coin. Tony Pugh wins Masters by a large margin and pockets some nice coin. Thats the way Krunk Rock rolls. And Rodney (sandbagger) takes second in AM Masters and adds more plastic to his garage.. Way to go guys and congrats...

WTF FUNdraiser location changed - everything else is exactly the same, just check the flyer & insert 6200 Bridge Point Austin, TX everywhere it says MET. WTF has had this as a back up plan since our camp out just in case of rain. Big thanx to south side for the course set up. Flex start 9a-11a $15 a person singles or doubles - or both if you have time & $$. Breakfast tacos & coffee @ 8:30 $1 a taco. Home made chopped beef sandwiches, BBQ beans & potato salad (Edman is smoking the brisket over pecan with cherry :-) for players, donations accepted. Kan Jam tournament $10 a team. Huge raffle & some very cherry silent auction items. Sweet WTF logo merch for the guys & the gals. WTF - CTP's... Sure I missed something - Gonna be a great time - thanx for coming out!

While sitting in my garage this past saturday and watching the water rise in my yard and my pool lapping at the top from all the rain, I was wondering how the WTF fundraiser went?? Hopefully people still braved the weather and came out....and hopefully no one hurt themselves playing or partying to much....are fell in the creek and floated away....and one more question for this old man, where was this moved to?? Could not figure out from the many e-mails.......I'm sure it will be a head slapper when someone tells me...

With the help of SADA, WTF was able to secure a back up location in case of rain - uh hello we're women, we plan :-). We moved the FUNdraiser to 2 5 story parking garages off of 360 with a lovely view of the downtown ski line & 360 bridge. We raised a little over a grand for our entry fees to TWC, with a great raffle, CTP's, Kan Jam, breakfast tacos, hot lunch, & a little IPA to finish things off.

On behalf of the Double R cabinet I would like to thank each and every member for being part of the club. We have started to plan for the up coming year and would like to ask for some help from the members. If everyone could look and find some new or gently used disc to donate to the club that would be great. I know most of us have lots of plastic we could donate. We understand that not everyone has time or money but most of us could help the club with this effort. The stockpile will be used to help sponsor events and for selected mini's as ctp's. Please bring what you can to the Wednesday mini's and give your donations to any cabinet member. We will collect for the next 6-8 weeks so get the word out. Thanks for your help. ROUND ROCK !!!!!!!!!

Yep!

We'll be there for good the second weekend of march. My wife starts a new job on the 12th. Were not sure what part of town we'll be in yet. I'm driving down this weekend to spend a few days lining up a rental and then fly back Wednesday. Then were bringing the rest of our stuff down in a uhaul. We been mostly looking at rentals in the north Austin / round rock area but we would probably consider anywhere if we liked the place. If anybody knows of anything it would be appreciated.

Can't wait for some warmer weather!

Nov 06 2012, 02:51 PM
FM 1431 and 183 to RM 2243, make a right on 2243 (there is an Exxon station on the opposite corner and Cashway Lumber on the right). Take 2243 about one mile just past 183A and make a left on CR 269. Continue on CR 269 about a half a mile and make a left on CR 270. Our driveway is about 7/10 mile on the left… you'll see a "Grateful Growers" sign next to our driveway. Party HQ is the second house on the left.
