So here's the deal. I'd like to do the Ace Race in '08.

Since I'll be flying to Chicago on Sunday and in Chicago on Wednesday (a typical schedule), I haven't joined with the RR club thought I've played an amateur round at Wilco once on a Sunday. I started the Central Texas DiscGolf Meetup for Saturday play. One of our guys got 2 aces in the last week but most of us hackers still celebrate par. I consider us a feeder group. When our guys get really good, I'll send them to you. If you have players who slow you down with their multiple bogeys and short throws, they'd probably fit right in with our Saturday group. We play a lot of doubles anyway and we've never had a pay mini. I have a link on our "about us" page to your club.

I'd like to sign up to do the Discraft Ace Race in '08 cause it was a lot of fun last year. The Rivery is one of my favorite courses so that would be the likely place. I'd like to do it in October but not interfere with Outlaws. Would you guys be OK with that? Do you know yet when Outlaws will be? I also emailed Troy who did the Ace Race last year and he doesn't think he's going to do it this year.

How do you get a park to let you do a tournament? Just call them up and ask? Any advice is appreciated? We would want to help with a course cleanup or two before the event.

For those who don't know, everybody throws one disc only in the ace race and you record ace, metal, or nothing. The prizes, all merchandise, go to the player who aced or there's runoffs if there's a tie like having CTP contests. It's very newbie friendly because if you throw and the disc goes 10 feet, you've tied with 90% of the people on the hole because they also didn't hit metal. Everybody pays $25 and gets two new prototypes from Discraft, a Discraft hat, and a mini. Modified tees are set out for every hole that are between 180 and 250 feet. A lot of the holes at the Rivery are already in that range. I think only 4 holes would have to be modified and some great holes are less than that range. Do you think the Rivery is a good course for this? Even if the holes are shorter, there's a lot of trees out there so you don't hit metal a lot. Well, at least our group doesn't.

Thanks for your input,
John Gravitt

OK Kids - it's our big day. The member tags are finally here! So after many weeks of asking ya'll to confirm that a. you wanted your tag, & b. the number we have is the same as what you think your member # is - they're here. If your tag did not get ordered - I'm sorry, we did our best. If your number does not match our list - I'm sorry, we did our best. (We have been asking ya'll to confirm for weeks).

The tags are in numerical order with the member # list - those that have been paid for are marked. If you'd like your tag, they will be available for pick up & purchase ($5) from me Wednesday & Thursday or @ CoTo from Edman or I.

If your tag was not ordered, there is a list, we will be happy to make another tag purchase. Please understand small orders will not be at the same discounted price.

i got almost all the way home (Leander west of 183) when my wife called and i had to turn around and pick up her son from work at 1890 Ranch. While on New Hope between 183 and 183-A, it started to hail. Hard. Made it to 183-a/1431 underpass till it went by. Picked up son at 1890 Ranch. As we pull out of lot, starts to hail again even harder. High tail it back to 183a/1431 underpass. Call home. Wife's in closet, won't go out even to look at radar. I made decision to haul [censored] back home. New Hope is by now freaking flooded with at least 1' of water streaming. Good thing i don't have a low/small car! Plowed through it all w/o stalling or planing thank goodness and finally got home.

What an adventurous Wednesday evening it was! :-)

I need someone to confirm something I read on PDGA rules a while back. If you putt and the disc is suspended by the basket (stuck in the side), it is considered holing out if you remove it before it falls comes out and falls to the ground? Is that right? I stuck one in the side of hole 9 at the rock and immediately ran up and removed it before it could come loose in the wind and fall. I think the old rules years ago said you had to pull it through into the basket and then remove it. As I understand it now you just have to remove it before it comes loose and falls. Am I right?

seewhere
Jun 05 2008, 09:31 AM
you are right you have to get to it before it falls out and there is no rule about pulling it through... nice hussel on that one by the way. :D

Fastest I've moved since Sept. 2007

LouMoreno
Jun 05 2008, 10:59 AM
LT, it has to come to rest before you can remove it. If it is still moving, squeezing through or out of the basket, or teetering on the rim, you shouldn't touch it until it stops. Then quickly grab it before it starts moving again.

Disc Entrapment Devices: In order to hole out, the thrower must release the disc and it must come to rest supported by the chains or within one of the entrapment sections. This includes a disc wedged into or hanging from the lower entrapment section but excludes a disc resting on top of, or hanging outside of, the upper entrapment section. The disc must also remain within the chains or entrapment sections until removed.

OK kids another month & more progress for the Double R Disc Golf Club.

Member tags are in & being distributed as we see you. For the most part, these are coming from Edman & I; if you need your tag, let me know - they're $5 if you're not a new member or didn't pay for them when you renewed. Tee shirts will be in by the SOLO, if you've paid, we'll get them to you there & if not they'll be available for $10 each (included in new membership).

The Sunday ace pot is holding strong @ $500 with a $230 (and growing) back up after that one is hit. We've added a bounty to a few holes - current members $50 for - a 3 on 4 or a 2 on 5 @ the Rock; 3 on 10 @ Wilco; & a 2 on 12 @ Rivery. Wednesday is still @ $300 for Club members w/$1500 in back ups (on per Wednesday) & added bounties on 4 & 5 (same as on Sunday).

We are committed to another $100 in merchandise to the HOTT tour & are accepting donations all the time (please give merchandise to any Cabinet member & they'll forward the items to me - remember it does not have to be disc golf related.

The Club has purchased the merchandise to be used for payout @ the SOLO on June 15th & we will be holding 2 work days prior to the event. This & next Saturday (7th & 14th) starting @ 9:00, bring loppers, weed eaters, mowers, gloves, etc (no chain saws) the Club will provide lunch & Ware will have some beer for after. We are also in need of the corrugated plastic signs that are used to post sponsor info. We borrowed them from Team Justice for TWC, but need to get a set of 36 for the Club (if you have a resource, let me know - they look to be about $130 for the set including wire stands) The Sunday ace pot will be open to current Club members during the morning round @ SOLO - that mean the $5 per player & $500 Club ace pot could be yours!!

We have committed to installing concrete tees @ Wilco & Cat Hollow this year. With assitance from the Waterloo Disc Golf Club, Wilco is coming first. I will be meeting with the county & the course designer to asses accurate tee box locations & then we'll have it coming at us fast & furious. This is a busy tournament time of year, so every volunteer is crucial. We have most of the equipment covered, but still need a few items. Please let me know ASAP(w/in 2 weeks) if you can donate or get any of these items at a reduced rate. Roll of Wire mesh, concrete buggie, concrete tools, cordless saws all, sharp shooter, hoe, 2x6's, lots of time & patience. This will be a one day pour & will need some real commitment for 2-3 consecutive days. I will post possible dates ASAP - w/in 2 weeks. Cat Hollow will come this fall - sooner than you think - & be tons of fun.

We're looking at purchasing tags for a bag tag challenge. These will be VERY different from the member tags (ask Vinnie or Edman to see the Live Oak tag). This would be a club fund raiser & we think they would sell to you for $20 each 1/3 of that would be the price of the tag, 1/3 would go to the Club fund, & 1/3 would go to the payout in a 2 round mini in January (ams to be paid in merch). The tag would be the entry fee to the event. So what do you think? We'd have similar challenge rules to the tags we've had before & end it with the 2 round mini in Jan with a mass by division challenge (entire Advance division plays for lowest tag in that division w/merch payout to top 1/3). Would you be willing to pay $20 for that opportunity, or should we scrap the idea?

We are still working out the proposed by laws for the Club & are hoping that we can have our 1st proposal Cabinet approved by mid July. We will make them available to Club members at that time & have our 1st all member meeting the 1st Monday in August (August 4th @ 6pm, location TBA). These by laws will have to be ratified article by article by the general Club membership. We will them have an official governing document outlining Club policy & procedure as well as election protocol. We will also finish Outlaws planning at that time.

Please send any input & feedback regarding questions or needs that I've presented ASAP. Here's too seeing you in the fairway & being part of the best disc golf club in Texas. ROUND ROCK!!!!

-100 under par is ridiculous. this makes our sport seem like a putt putt game.
when have you ever seen scores like this in our big brother "PGA"

OK kids - here's the skinny. Club party is @ Berlinds. There's tournaments in Texas every freakin' weekend til the end of time. Football is coming on strong. The point - no weekend will be perfect - no matter when we have the party, someone that wants to come will already have plans. So the dates that are out there are Oct 11th (Big Arms & UT OK), Nov 1st (VPO & day after Halloween), or Nov 15th (nothing listed yet). I have the dates out to Berlind for his approval - do ya'll have a preference?

THINK ABOUT THIS:

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines one year ago,
you will have $49.00 today.

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in AIG
one year ago, you will have $33.00 today.

If you had purchased $1,000 of
shares in Lehman Brothers one year ago, you will have $0.00 today.

But,
if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the
beer, then turned in the aluminum cans for recycling refund, you will
have received $214.00.

Based on the above, the best current investment
plan is to drink heavily & recycle. It is called the 401-Keg.
A recent study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year.
Another study found that Americans drink, on average, 22 gallons of
alcohol a year. That means that, on average, Americans get about 41
miles to the gallon! Makes you proud to be an American!

When people looked through money going to Austin, the park was mentioned and some $ for disc golf course. Shovel ready refers to starting construction this year as opposed to most of the "non-stimulus" construction spending which won't even start for years. I don't believe this project will create many jobs at all since the city will use primarily city employees. If they do bid something out it will be to an existing company and they'll hire a couple of minimum wage workers for a year then they are gone when the project is over.

Off topic, but this is the place for everything else - Danniel Temple is a dumb arse. Seriously! & Lastcash isn't much better. How do you agree that it's stupid to run a mini in the same town on the same day, but OK to run tournaments in the same place on the same days. What a dork. Sorry, now I feel better & I didn't have to bring his thread up to the front page.

since we're complaining, is it just me or is the message board/site in general super slow. I dont think It's my comp since none of the other sites I go to seem to be that way. It reminds me of back inthe day when I had webtv.

I was just in the austin area this weekend and played Wilco (after it was re-opened at noon) and really enjoyed it! When is the next tournament scheduled for Wilco? I need an excuse to make the drive...

1st sunday of every month we hold our monthly mini there as for a tournament for men not sure, I know TWC will be using that course in April. if you liked wilco you would love Manor. heard form several dallas area guys that manor is by far the hardest course in the STATE :D

We have a mini there the 1st Sunday of each month - April 5th will be next - 9:30 tee. Next "tournament" will be the Double R Bag Tag Challenge on May 2nd - tags are $30 & that is your entry to the tournament. about 15-20 tags left. Then either Flying Solo or Outlaws - dates & schedules TBD.

we can't make TWC this year because we're getting married on the 18th :Dbut I'm sure we'll be there next year. We also can't make May 2nd, but maybe April 5 will work. Outlaws or Flying Solo? I hope we can make one of those. If you guys ever need help with a big tournament we'd love to come help out. If you have them covered, we'd love to come play :)

Blake/Blair....Ware2 and I have decided that since our player's meeting is at 11am Saturday, we're not gonna camp there Friday...just gonna drive in Sat morning. Well, the weather is another reason too. :D

Doubt we'll be camping Sat evening either, still contemplating that. We could still take food/grill to use after the Sat rounds so we can all hang for a while, even if we don't camp..... if you want to chat about that, give me a call 512.296.5277.

Good times at AM Doubles this year and great weather Sunday afternoon - We would have loved to made 3-4 more putts and we would have had the 3rd spot secured but that's disc golf :-)

I'm trying to find an easy way to get from the Austin airport to downtown without a car to possibly play a course. I've found information about a bus to downtown. Wasn't sure which course would be easiest to get to from there.
Thanks, Patti
