i have to post this because i was super stoked yesterday. Played San Gabe yesterday with Booter, Cobra, Wolf, and Silver. We did the same course layout as we play on tuesday. For the first time, i made it to the basket on my first throw from both the short and the long tees. Leftie Anny on both. R-Pro ROC #eeatches. Got a par cause the Manny Putting Law came into effect, then birdie on the second go round. But was still super stoked. :)

Hope to see a bunch of you there tonight. It'll be nice to get member input on upcoming events & projects as well as formats, etc. We'll have some updates on OSP, the web site, & North Town Park as well as a report on Money & merch. If you're not able to attend, please feel free to e mail or pm any Double R cabinet member with your thoughts, ideas, & concerns. If you don't do either & have some input - well you know what I'd say here :).

When we finished the t-boxes over at WILCO a few years back we donated all the old forms to the Brushy Creek MUD, the entity that resides over the Cat Hollow DGC. We needed a place to get rid of them and knew they were interested in laying down concrete t-pads someday. They have recently contacted me to see if we are still interested in assisting them on the design and installation. We have successfully installed 2 courses, OSP and WILCO and it just about killed the members that were able to find time to contribute. We now have 2 beautiful parks with concrete that we can hang our hat on in the RR area.
There are many difference’s in the CHDGC and those 2 parks. First thing is the DBLRDGC will incur no cost for this project. The second is we won’t be leading it up as a club. I’m looking for a project manager that can work with them on scheduling the dates, layout and labor. There are 2 weekly mini’s at the course now and boy has that place taken it’s licks on wear and tear. I have briefly spoke with the guys at Wanna Play Disc Golf Store and they feel that it will be no problem to get enough of the locals that play there now to pitch in and help. Somebody that has worked with us on the other 2 courses would be prime to take on this project. You would have to have a little bit of knowledge about concrete and the process. My plate these days are way to full to handle it with Outlaws, TWC and Women’s National’s on my plate. I would hate to see the area miss an opportunity just because I’m to busy to lead it up. So I’m looking for somebody to take this on with the help of myself and other willing club members as well as locals from the course. There time frame is this fall/winter on installing them. Please let me know if you are interested in progressing the sport of Disc Golf and improving the courses in the RR area.

Met Center tomorrow morning at 8am, $2 buy-in for $250 ace pot. As well as CTP's. Tee off at 8:30. Come get some. :)
Fun round with 7 guys at Brushy. Started a little late at 5:30 and finished 3 hrs later. Lets try to move it a long a little quicker next time. No exchange of tags since we did a Chinese fire drill with teams. Warning. On hole 3 if you make it straight down the fairway on the mulch. On the left just before the mulch does a 90 degree turn to the left there is a ground hornet nest (look like yellow jackets) on the left in a stump. Bigarm found out the hard way and got out of their way with a minimum of 4 stings. If someone is going to play the course bring some wasp(can)killer or a water bottle of diesel. Just pour down the hole and if it gets on them they can't fly.

Problem solved....I hope! Went back to the site of a new grandmasters record 40 yard dash. I think he was clocked at 4.45. Found the ground hornets at hit them with a full can of wasp and hornet killer. None came out while I soaked the holes and much of it ran down into the holes. After about 20 seconds 3 flew out but immediately went back in. Hopefully since the entrance was soaked they will get it on the live ones as they come out and go back in. Told the park workers that were on the soccer field and they said they would check it out later. Nice record Bigarm!!!

After seeing what Brushy Creek looks like there is one good sign. The ground hornets if any lived after I sprayed them is they are all drowned. Water at one point was 8-10 feet above all the soccer fields. Above the skate park. Only went down about 3 feet in one day. today it was down to the tin roof of the dugout on the baseball field. Draining very slowly. at this rate the course will be playable in 1 month minimum!

WOW, that's some water there LT. I was driving down 1431 yesterday afternoon, and there was water all the way up to the road at honney bear creek just before Bulldog storage, both sides of the road
Water was still across Brushy Creek Rd. this afternoon by the convenience store at Parmer. You had to go through the store parking lot to go east towards Sam Bass.

Only 2 people at the Tech Ridge HEB had any CowGirl colors on yesterday about 2 hours before the game. Disgraceful I say, Disgraceful!!! That means that me and the brother that gave me knucks at the checkout were equally representing the enemy colors in their own back yard. I guess you all are waiting until you go to the Super Bowl to break out your lids and jerseys? Good Luck with that!!!!
How 'bout 'em CDub!!! All I hear is crickets from the Dallas fans, or about how they were robbed. We were not good at all, and it will be a long season if we continue to play like that. Would it be a good comparison to say that Dallas fan's relationship with fans of the rest of the NFL teams, is similar to how the USA is viewed in many parts of the world? Stated another way....are Dallas fans looked at by others as being arrogant over privileged jerks who think they are superior, similar to how many people in other countries view Americans?
Just thinking out loud....some of the trash talking reminds me of what I read when i'm reading viewer-comments on international news stories.

Yes JohnE, their hearts dropped, but i can tell you that BARRON was probably cut from the team before it landed in dallas. mistakes will be gone by next game in dallas and Jason Garrett will realize to stick with the running game by then because that is the drive that they scored on.
Im not going to say good game 4skins, because, well it wasnt, Im going to say BAD GAME COWBOYS.
Even I have a good round of discgolf every once in a while, so do the 4skins win a game. LOL This win the 4skins played is like a REC player holding up a basket above their heads when they win REC. REALLY?? You can have your win. See you in game two. :D

Water at Brushy has only gone down about 2 feet in the last 3 days. Touching the roof of the back of the dugout. So it is probably about 6 1/2 to 7 feet over the fields(soccer and baseball) That means some of the disc baskets are 10 or more feet underwater still.

Brushy Creek update. It is down another 1 1/2 ft from the last picture.(2 days ago) About 5 feet of water on the baseball field. When you get down to the soccer field by the course. It is only about 2 ft. deep. Not on the parking lot anymore or 7's basket. It did get into the skate park but looks like they cleaned most of that up. Who cares about the &5$#ing skate park anyway. FYI per the city if you play the original course layout and there is construction being done on the hole you will need to skip that hole and walk to the next hole that does not have construction on it.. DO NOT PLAY THE HOLE IF THERE IS CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT ON THE HOLE!!!
DO not cut through or go over trenches or silt fenches until the work as been completed

Wouldn't it be better if they just pulled the baskets while construction is going on?
The majority of golfers are not PDGA members and I would be surprised if most players will just go over/though the fencing.

Sounds like an early start to the Winter Course. Not that it effects me, just concerned that IF they want golfers to NOT cross thru the work zone, removing the targets would be an effective deterrent.
IF they REALLY cared, they would install the South Course for the duration.:) The club (Ed) has already installed nine anchors, just 9/11 more to go.

Only affecting holes 3-5? Heh. Maybe last week! I drove by there yesterday. Hole 6 is completely ripped up. Ironically, the basket is still there! Its surrounded by large piles of dirt and earth movers, lol.
THE CABINET'S PLAN IS STILL TO MEET AT 4:30 AT HOLE #1. Yes, we will need to play Winter tomorrow, and possibly going forward as well. Since we can't guarantee we'll get the word out to everyone, that's why we are saying meet at #1, and given that we are going to play Winter, we'll have time to do the draw and get over there. Sucks? I agree! We had no advance warning. :/
Also, it appears that this work is moving forward and might possibly affect regular holes 7-10 in the near future. Its not entirely obvious at this point. I would expect that given we'll get a better look playing Winter tomorrow, we'll be better able to answer that.

What's going on with this course in Austin is why we need to continue to improve our courses in the Williamson county area. We always going to be under this kind of scrutiny. And it's up to us as a group to get rid of this type of stereotyping. I want to encourage the new cabinet to never lose sight of these happenings and keep moving forward even when we as a club are not in 100% agreeance.

We need a few people to pull together to run the Double R FUNd raiser this Sunday afternoon @ Waterloo. All you need is a few chairs, a little candy, an ez-up (if you like shade), & a mouth (I know this club has a few mouths on it). We run a side be carnnie hole where we move the basket from the hole down the street (6 I think) on top of the table with each card that plays the hole (5 to 1 odds I think - they bet $1 for a chance to win $5 or $20 wins you $100) that they canr't land there drive compltely surrounded by concrete. All the money goes to the Ronald McDonald House (right behind the hole). It's a great time with great people. vinnie/ed miller & edman & I have run it for as long as I can remember with a little support from other club members. It'd be great for a group of you to take this & run with it so Edman & can go to Burnett with Jamie & play golf for once. Lemme know if you can pitch in & I'll give you more details - it's about a 4 hour round with set up & break down & we usually raise over $200 for RMcDH.

It is for the most part. There is two spots that it might give you a fit. Crossing from hole #2 tee to the basket is a little rough for a cart and after hole #8 tee to the basket you have to cross another creek. Other than that it is not bad at all. I just went out and played this morning. It is in good shape unless you get in the creek areas.

Ya'll have a nice weekend. Edman & I will be at Waterloo Sunday making this club look like it actively participates in promoting the growth of the sport we all love. Canival hole:
- Seems like very short notice to find personal - did the cabinet just decide 2 weeks ago to do this, if so my recommendation would have been not to did it
- What happens when Edman steps off cabinet - Ed and the cabinet have done a great job but I have a feeling the club will continue on no matter who steps down
- Need to understand what the club members can and can't do to promote Disc Golf and what we do well (Cabinet's responsiblity) then focus priorities around those. Me personally w/ 5 month old twins and coaching 6 year T-Ball - I am just happy to make it on Wednesday.
Just my observations... This is a great club and has done great things for Disc Golf - I think we need to focus on the positives & continue to do what we do well - whatever that is (donate plastic, $$$, Concrete T pads, etc...) and move away from the things we do poorly (finding people to give up a day) & to stop the negative press...

The concrete challenge was started by the club some years back and is nothing new. We ask every year to get support and it's no biggie that it's the same few. It's our way of giving to the tourney without taking from our club funds. We typically raise $400+ for the Ronald McDonald house, so I ask you guys why wouldn't the club want to participate? Sounds pretty selfish to me that most of you see this as anything less/more. I've got a couple of weeks left and I'm riding it out so again no worries. This club does not the few pushing it's masses it needs the masses pushing a few. Put some people on the cabinet that represent it's membership and the club will move where it should.

I would put in McGee to develop him under two veteran QBs. Get him some playing time so that he is ready to beat Washington by 7 in December, that is all this season is about for me now.

Yeah, calling Boyz fans "fair weather" when they admit that their team isn't so great......is a double standard when fans of other teams say that *they* stick with their team good and bad. We all love it when our team does well and we hate it when they do bad. Dallas fans just aren't as used to being humble as often Skins fans are, heh.

What if your mom was a moron and your dad was a moron, what would you be then?!" Jenny smiled and said, "Then I'd be a Dallas Cowboy fan!"”

not that I care that much about pro foosball, but yes the Titans are my team, and that stems from growing up as an Oiler fan
LBA, you cant say much about Texans right now to Cowgirl fans, their only win this year is against those Texans

Sorry to change the topic - God knows I'm all about smack talk when it comes to the coygirls; but I'm preparing the club books for the end of the term. If you have run a Sunday or Wednesday mini, & still need to handoff the sign up sheet & money, please try to get it to me or Edman by next wednesday the 17th so I can get things wrapped up. Thanx!
#1 tag slipped away again. Had it fo 4 days. Long time for me. Back to the guy I got it from.

RRDGC,
I will not be running for re-election as Secretary for the cabinet. With the experienced cabinet members running for re-election and new club members stepping up to take the reigns, I am confident we will have the right folks leading the club in 2011. I will, of course, continue to be an active member and work with the cabinet in support of the great game of disc golf.
I look forward to another year of club growth, community service and good times!
Thank you,
Paul Weitkemper

Are you saying that a parks department assisted with a disc golf course improvement project? That's unheard of. Great work getting another concrete install project pushed through Edman. It's not just hype - you really are the Shizzle.

For those of you not playing teams -you can still participate by staffing. John & Dee have always been very gratefull to staffers & you'll be able to have a few club beers & maybe join the fun of camping with the 40 of us that are playing (& 400 other golfers). Here's where you can help Circular Productions if you've got a chance -
"We need some volunteers during the tournament for running errands, spotting, scorecards, setting up areas during, directing people for parking, directing and helping people for camping, etc.
We could also use some help before the Saturday night party to help set up."

it was a season series bet. so being the redskins won the first meeting by 6, the cowboys had to win the second game by 7 or more. they only won by 3. so as a result i have to wear a jersey and carry stevos bag for 18 holes next wednesday. no worries here, i can deal with wearing a Washington Redskins Jersey for one day. Dont know if there is one in Texas or if it will have anyones name on it that anyone knows. Riggins maybe. Its all good, i will even take a video and post it on youtube during the event. And playing with Laura and chris will be a treat, just like friday skins, nothing different. Question is, will these fare weather 4skins fans be showing their TRUE colors and wear their jerseys too.

If you need one, the Redskins web site has discounted their McNabb jersey's, 1/2 off, close out special.
Just saying.
(not a Cowboy fan) Go Packers!
They just updated it, it is a "buy one, get all we have left" free!!
Can't wait to see Manny in a Deadskins' uniform....................I'm not sure whats tougher, wearing that ugly shirt or watching either team play this year.....with both being 5 & 9.......its a shame we are not in the NFC west this year...........Oh well, there's always next year for one of us.......and with all the s hitting the fan in Washington right now.....you can be sure it will not be the Deadskins' doing any better than this year...............Poor Donavan, at least he signed that big deal before he got benched for a loser from Florida.......what a bum he is........Gossman that is...but at least he is your bum not ours........now we get to see which team ends up DFL in the NFC East.............the way this season has gone, we will probably tie for DFL....

People wearing a Washington Redskins Jersey count will go to 4 in Texas that day, then after the round, back down to 3. I'm actually looking forward to it. It will make the other 3 fans in Texas happy that I'm wearing their teams jersey.
Enjoy Redskins fans.:D

oh we will
Here we go again, lot of arguing will be going on!
Taken directly from the 2011 PDGA Official Rules of Play:
Summary of Rules Changes
Definitions of the basket and its components have been added to the Glossary so that we no longer have to use the phrase "entrapment section ".
The definition of holing out has been tightened up a bit. A putt that sticks in the side of the tray, or hangs outside the tray from one of the nubs, no longer counts.
The hole has been completed once the disc has come to rest, not when the disc is removed.
The "unplayable lie" rule has been reformulated into an "optional rethrow" rule. It is now clear that penalty strokes are not added if the rethrow option is taken, so that double jeopardy is avoided.
The rules for a lie above ground have been changed to include a lie below ground (in a crevice or below a bridge, for example).
The relief rules have been simplified. You can’t move anything unless it’s in your stance. If something is both in your stance and between your lie and the hole, you can move it. You can always ask people to move themselves or their stuff if they are in your way.
The 5-meter relief rule has been extended to anywhere back along the line of play, and moved to the relief Section .
A director may designate a drop zone to be used for lost disc on a hole.
This explains one of the changes:
It's in the new rules. The three points are supported but the words in red.
B. Disc Entrapment Devices: In order to hole out, the thrower must release the disc and it must come to rest supported by the chains and/or the inner cylinder (bottom and inside wall) of the tray. It may be additionally supported by the pole. A disc observed by two or more players of the group or an official to have entered the target below the top of the tray or above the bottom of the chain support is not holed out.
Thus if you can't see the disc enter the basket, it counts. If you see enter from the top and wedges, it counts no matter how badly wedged. If you see it enter below the basket, it does not count.
Thanks LT...........I would have never figured that out by myself..........nor would I want too.......so lets see......if it's in the basket (hole) it count's..........If its not (in the basket).............................it does not count,,,,unless it comes from below?????...........How far below?? And why?? Or who was who??........................Not easy to decide whom had more fun tonight.......LT telling you....What tag # do you have!!!!................Or Ed-Man Telling you you suck??!!!.....Neither one easy to take..............But because its Christmas & we saw Santa tonight.........He was there again tonight believe me...........It was another great ending to another Double R Disc Club Year (2010)..............I wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year and hope all your dreams come true and everything you ever wanted you get..................and then some.............see all you guys and gals in 2011 (oh my god I'll be 55)........or sooner..........MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,......................... .........................................2010 11.10

through the top does NOT count
The guy I copied is talking about entering above the top of the basket not the part the chains hang from. He said even if it wedges and is hanging out the back of the basket, it counts. It entered the basket legally. Someone ought to print out the new rules, there will be a lot of arguing going on!
They wrote it down and gave a picture for your old timers...
