Chris: bus schedules, weather... I've got a question.
Given the economic collapse should I:
1)take the remaining $50.00 from my 401k and put in a coffee can buried in the back yard,
2)hide it in/under the mattress or
3)invest it all in CFO's then use the empties to start my post retirement can route?
I'll check back after work, assuming I don't get the pink slip at the beginning of my shift. Pink slip defaults to option #3. Ya'll have fun tonight.

I need some help from 3 or 4 people to help me move after the mini on Sunday 3/29. VERY EASY MOVE. No furniture, 12-15 boxes that can be hauled on a dolly. Only big things are a washer and dryer, 2 TV's and stands. Can be completely finished in less than an hour and a half HONESTLY. I will handle all the BS I just need the stuff relocated to the new place. The drive is less than 2 miles, and Edman has a truck to make it all in one trip. Lunch and drinks on me after. Anyone willing to step up and help a brother out? I will be at the mini on WED.

Following an interesting thread (http://www.earlybirdsdiscgolf.org/boards/thread/6598779/). Someone got a head injury from a fight at Brushy Creek about a disc.
"I talked to a fellow doctor at Round Rock ER yesterday. He said he had just treated someone for a head injury who got involved in an altercation at Brushy Creek (probably Cat Hollow). From what he understands, someone picked up someone else's disc off a fairway and would not admit to it and would not give it back. This led to some exchanges of punches. Did anyone else hear of this? " Dr. Steve

Thanx to everyone that showed up to help walk the South Course last night. Long sleeves, pants, & bug spray are the mandated dresscode for all South Course work days. (can you say sarcasm?)
Land was amazing (just like you remember it), we found a few old sleeves, & there are a few holes that just need mowed & they're ready to go. This will be a huge project for the club if our proposal is approved (both using it for Outlaw's & permanent re-installation). We will need your deadication, time, & blood, sweat, & tears (trust me). The course with the most wind & the course with the tightest lines in the same park again? Wow!! Now that will be amazing.
See ya'll tonight. Don't forget bug spray (mmm chiggers) & CTP's. If you've won a CTP, you need to bring one. We had 5 at one point this year & now we might have 1 left. (insert scowl here - I still hate the little icons).
edman
Jun 03 2009, 02:42 PM
I hate to say it but the passion of a few doesn't always translate to the masses. If you can and want to help out with this project, step up and volunteer. All members have an obligation to this club to assist with these types of projects. Be a part of where you play and call home. I will get the members to understand sooner or later the cabinet isn't going to do it all. The same people doing things all the time is getting old.

The city rejected our plan for the South Course layout. They have however come up with an alternate that they want us to try and make work. It will go through the crickett field and the airfield. They are afraid the holes in the deep woods(the best holes) will erode to quickly with all the foot traffic and affect the waterways. I want to go out there sometime this week in the evening and start planning. I think we can still make a very challenging course. I'll need some help with the walk through, but unable to committ at this time as to what day. Probably Thursday. Sound off if you can help out.

No, they will notify them of our event so they won't be in our way. They are not willing to go with a permanent course at this time for the South. But all for us using a temp layout yearly.

Jul 28 2009, 05:38 PM
Yes, they will maintain the course. Not to sure that we can get a good course out of there yet. With them declining the wooded holes I really need to see what we have to work with. My feeling is there will about 10 holes that we can use that were either part of the original south course or used at TX 10 events. I will not come up with 8 holes just for the sake of making a hole or making a connecter to another one if it sux. They have also given me the land on the left as you come into the park just past the low water crossing. So I really need to get there and check it out. If this turns out to be just me doing it I will have to pass on using the South Course this year. Too much on my plate to handle solo.

Those of you that have said you want to & can help, the time is now - the tournament is a month away. There is too much to be done to wait until the last minute for the physical work & tons of leg work is still to be done behind the computer. There's no reason that with ya'lls help we can't start crossing stuff off the list a lot quicker. So, you can't help when the times are announced for course stuff? Get with Edman & see if there's something you can't take off his plate during your time. This is a Double R Disc Golf Club tournament - one person can't make an event all fluff and perfect. Players have expectations of tournaments in Texas & we (as a club) need to step up to the plate & show 'em what Round Rock is like!

Hey if you don't have time to make it out to the course during the scheduled times for workdays(I probably can't make them all either)Mon.@6,Tues.@6,Sat.@9 and want to help out, then you can work on the Rock. Lot's around holes 2,3,4,8,9,15,17 and now 18. If you are able to help in any way on gameday also please let me know I still need a few good soldiers. Like any good event it's takes a good staff to make it a success.

Sounds like there's enough interest to make this happen. Sorry for the short notice & I hope you can make it out.
This Friday Sept 4th I'll run a Moonlight Mini under the full moon @ Old Settler's Park Winter Course - meet @ regular 14 tee. Bring your own partner or one will be provided as available. $20 a team - actual format to be decided (alternate, mixed, best disc, etc.). There looks like we'll have 2 divisions mixed gender & mixed skill. Plastic may be available for payout if interested. 8:00 sign up, 8:30 start - park closes @ midnight. I have disc lights for $2 each (until they're gone). Whiskey skins will happen as players demand & we'll take a short snack break/beerrun before doubles.
E mail/call me if you have any questions.
See you in the fairway,
Lala

Is there any other work days planned?
edman
Sep 08 2009, 11:15 AM
I would be very happy if another worked day was planned and ran by someone. To busy from this point out to work on any courses. Sat morning? The turnouts have been horrible, the obligation the members have to the club is being way underestimated. The courses just won't have that shine that they usually do when people come to our house. If you can spare time in your busy lives to get out there and do something it won't go overlooked.

I will post a list later of what he has but please try and support Jaime a fellow DOUBLE R member on getting to go to the best tournament in the world. Every little bit will help.. thanks

All the downed limbs & trees need to be piled up so the city can come through and pick them up, creek on 3 & 4 needs some weed eating attention, trash on entire course, back fill on #8's tee box, the hill on 8 & 9 needs some attention as well.
johne
Sep 08 2009, 12:01 PM
i can do some weed eating....i've got a gas weed eater with HD line. I can commit to doing that on Sunday after the mini out there. I can do around 2, 3, and 4. I think that's a good time to do that since i'll be there anyway. Perhaps others could use the same reasoning so that its not "all work". In fact i'll buy a case of ice cold CFO's and make the chest available to anyone helping me out at that time.
Hell. I could EVEN sweeten the deal by suggesting those that help me out bring their swim trunks for a couple of hours on lake Stillhouse afterwards (up by Belton). If that sounds good to anyone.... :D ....talk to me on Wednesday.

I think the only one's that need to be payed out are Buttercup/Lilbigarm for dubs. Let me know if there is more. If the rain stops I will be at the rock Wed. Me and Lala's next big thing for disc golf is to play and practice. The work of this sport is going on the back burner...for awhile. Thanks for the good times this past weekend and congrats to all the winners. What a great weekend of golf. With well over 80 players including 40 teams for dubs on Friday and 66 players for the tourney the Double R DGC was proud to host you. Thanks Steve-o for letting me and Lala play hooky on Friday, it set the weekend right for me at least. Good times. Thanks players for coming out and playing a demanding style of golf that Old Settler’s Park has to offer. The South Rock has definitely proved to be more than a temp course and hopefully we will see it again real soon when it get's HoTT in ROUND ROCKKKKK. My staff was off the hook and was glad to have such all stars.

Enlarging the parking lot maybe. There was bulldozed dirt from the end of the lot, almost to #7 basket (the one that's visible from the lot). Anyone know for sure what they are doing?

Followed the lead card Saturday from hole 5 through 17. I saw some unbelievable drives. Avery Jenkins just BOMBS c-hole from the pro box he had a 30-40 footer for a 2 (missed it though). Nikko Locastro (09 USDGC winner)...wow that guy can play golf, fantastic putter...he was 70' past the basket on hole 17 in 2. C'mon Eric McCabe I wanna see you on that leader card! :)
I'm planning on showing up Sunday to watch the leader card for the afternoon final 9, it starts at 1pm. Anyone wanna join me c'mon.

Final 9 highlights for ME, were seeing avery jenkins bomb a huge high hyzer on #3 to about 10' from the basket. I thought he yanked it for a second it was so far right.....but it just kept going and going.
And then Coda Hatfield on #17, good God. His drive was on the left side almost in the smegma, about 450 from the tee. Not a HUGE drive. But the NEXT shot was just amazing, a hyzer, flipped up, and just went and went and went, and then hyzered and hyzered and hyzered, all the way to about a 40' from the basket (he made the 3).
Another was seeing the top 4 almost all get into trouble on #2 from the tee. Makes me wonder what these guys would shoot if they knew the course better. :-)

Thanx to all of you that took the time to vote for the 2010 Double R Disc Golf Club cabinet - your voice makes a difference! You have chosen the following people to guide the club through the next year - President: Ed Coffey, Vice President: John Eaves, Secretary: Paul Weitkemper, Sergeant at Arms: Keith May - of course I will continue as treasure. Thank you again for your participation! See you all @ the Rivery mini this Sunday - course work day to follow in preparation for December tournament.
A huge thanx to Chris & Mike Ware for all they've done to help get the club to this point - we could not have become who we are without your leadership!

What you don't love JD anymore? Thanks JD for all you've done as well. Lots to do this term, lots to talk about. I will have to form a committe to handle the mini's now that C-dub and JD are no longer a part of the cabinet. Those of you that were nominated but didn't get voted in I will be looking to you for your support even more so than ever.

is the club doing bulk membership sign up again?
Yes LBA - I just got the e mail from the PDGA late last week. I will set up the link & be ready to accept renewal/PDGA memberships next week. This should be plenty of time for anyone playing early 2010 events.
Club membership is also due in January - $10 to renew, $25 to join. New club shirts will be ordered soon as well as some other club related items (dry fits, sweatshirts, etc.)

It was over when ...
Cowboys kicker Shaun Suisham hit a 23-yard field goal halfway through the fourth quarter to give the Cowboys a 17-0 lead. The Redskins would get two more possessions but were unable to mount a comeback.
Key Stat
Following the interception on their first possession, the Redskins punted on eight of their final nine drives.
Noteworthy
The Redskins have not scored a touchdown in two games against the Cowboys this season. ... The Cowboys lead the all-time series 59-39-2, including the playoffs, and have won the last three meetings.

Its funny how Cowboys haters like to switch around and have other "favorite teams" when their own couldn't cut it. At least the 'Boys made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs. What happened to the redskins? oh yeah they were 4-12 this season. When it came to Dallas vs Washington, the Cowboy's balls were clearly on the Redskin's chins. lol

Met with the parks guys today. On the docket was the proposal for laying down some concrete on the front 9 of the south course and maintenance on the reg course.
South Course
We will not be doing the concrete t-boxes, not now or ever. This course was intended for a one-time use (Outlaws) and the parks dept. has been willing to work with us on other events, but longterm this course will not be receiving any upgrades or improvements. Within 10 years the area used for the back 9 will become soccer fields. They want us to limit our events on that course to no more than 4 tournaments a year.
Regular course
The parks dept has agreed to build 3 sided retaining walls around the problem t-boxes that continue to get dirt washed into them if they cannot successfully grade the area around them. This would include 3, 8,13 and 18. Some of those just need minor work. They have also agreed to power wash the t-boxes on a regular basis in line with our tournaments. This will remove the slickness when there is the smallest amount of moisture on them, which is sometimes dangerous. The will use heavy duty concrete cleaner for this. We have the approval to lay concrete on A hole and B hole at the clubs expense. Once this process is reviewed by there engineers they will give us the OK and we can go to work. Timeline will be within 45 days. After that we will get the course re-numbered 1-21. They want us to move up A hole t-box and get it out of the way of the cross country track that goes around that corner. We will be moving the t-box back about 30ft before the pour to keep the integrity of the hole and not make just another birdy hole.
On a sidenote they asked if we would be interested in taking on some learning events that they could publish to the public. This would consist of a set schedule of 5-6 classes for teaching and educating the people about disc golf. We have the resources in the club to do so and they will be in contact with us once they get there proposal together.

No worries...it's what el presidente's do. I'll keep you guys in the loop, they will grade them down like before we'll just have to form them up and pour the concrete. So out of this meeting 2 committees will be formed. The work crew committee and the public relations committee. Jamie, I would love for you to head it up the p.r. committee with a few others when the time gets near. Work crew committee needs to be headed up by somebody with a concrete mixer. These committees will exist of at least 1 cabinet member so we will keep you all in the loop.

The club is an awsome place to be....Thanks to all that made TSPD a hit.
Many pitched in but the CoffeEs took the horns (Laura I hope you feel better) Ware for sharing his passion for OB, Steve O for being the right hand and the many folks that marked, donated, and spent time. We are blessed to have so many folks willing to pitch in. And for the ones that think running the event is to much work ...well you are right, but this club has got it down and with some coordination, anyone of us could take the horns. So next year lets do this thing BIG.
