Sean,
Am Worlds is usually at the end of July and Pro Worlds is usually at the beginning of August. It seems like there used to be a tradition where the winner of Am Worlds would then go play Pro Worlds as their first pro event, if possible. :) They swapped them this year because, IIRC, some kind of big event is happening in PA at the beginiing of August and hotels/whatever would be really tough to do.
In 2002 and 2004, when the Worlds were combined pro/am, there was obviously only one date instead of two.

I'm originally from Orange and most of my family still lives there. You may know that Beaumont was "touchdown alley" for Rita. Our courses got hammered! We have 3 courses; Klein Park, Tyrrell Park, and Pleasure Island. Tyrrell park got the worst of it and is now missing 3 baskets and is simply too hazardous to play now. The other 2 courses are pretty cleared out now and are played on regularly. We've got a mini this afternoon in mid 40s weather. Pretty cold for this park of TX.

... as the "TD List" develops and e-x-p-a-n-d-s , it looks better all the time ...
.
... in actuality , for The AmWorlds (especially the size that '06 will be) , you get "Pro's running and TD'ing" the Event ... you need to accumulate a good number of these "seasoned individuals" ; anywhere from 20 to 30 bodies , to really get the Staff to flow smoothly ...
... all the "Am" Players in attendance will be indeed fortunate to have all these Great Players helping run their Event ...

If a player from Alabama does what Pimp wants to do, you can add another person to that list, I am not talking about myself, I am talking about Zach Easterling, he is my main competition in this state. I am being realistic about myself, I just want to crack the top 20, maybe top 10 if I have a good week.

I wouldn't necessarily be looking at the guys with ratings over 950 or so right now. They may have almost peaked or are just slowly getting better. My money would be on someone who may only have a 920 rating right now but has been on a fast track to become a World Class player. Not sure who they would be, but that's where I'd be looking for potential contenders this time of year.

So, I have a question: Do they take all the 1000+ point players out of the top 20% when they make the rest of the invites?
There are 6 players in GA that have over 1000. Then I am 4th down on the list below the 6 players at 1000+, with 752. Does this make me in the top 20% for the automatic bid or will I need to try and get in on the wait list? Also, my buddy Matt was registered in MD all of last year but has switched his address with his re-newing of membership, does that mean he is a GA player for the Worlds or do they go on last years place of membership?
Thanks for all the answers.... :D

I doubt you have anything to worry about, do you really think that every AM player is going to be able to take a week off of work to play a tournament for plastic,a players pack and a trophy? I had about the same amount of points that you did last year and I got an invite but didnt go so I wouldnt sweat it, everyone on this board is talking about how all the TX players are going to fill up AM worlds but I seriously doubt it.Trust me, I hope that AM worlds does fill but there is a high chance that you will get in.

Adam,
You guys should try to find a shady realtor who knows of a house that is empty and on the market, but not scheduled to be shown during that time period. That way, they could just claim that some "vandals" broke into the place, lived there for a week, and trashed it. You wouldn't have to pay a thing! Hopefully the electricity and water would be on, but I could see how you might be able to get by without either. We're going to be a little cramped in the hotel room, but all six will have a spot to sleep. Hopefully we'll have plenty of room to play poker, but we'll see. $60/night for a large room semi-suite with 2 queen beds and a big sleeper sofa isn't too bad if you ask me.

I saw the invite list.
Are actual invitations being sent out that give the registration information? Or is that all on a website somewhere?
Thanks,

I note several players that should be in an older division, including my son, are listed as qualified for last years age division.
Hey, David. Surely David Jr. wouldn't want to beat up on those 10 and unders yet again! :D Jarred is getting taller but his throws aren't getting any longer. Excited about seeing how many will be in their division. It would be cool if there were like ten of 'em!

The Host Hotel (http://www.selecttulsa.com/discgolf/) is now at 75% booked for the rooms we have blocked for Am Worlds.
We blocked off 332 rooms and all of their suites.
There are 82 rooms left.
Thank you
For those that have not made your reservations yet, I would suggest that you do so soon. This is where it will all be happenng, from registration, player events, player parties, ect,.......
There are plenty of additional hotels near by, but why do that when you could be at the Host Hotel? ;)

Neal,
After some discussion with David Gentry of the PDGA, it seems that the age division on the invite refers to last years age division (the division the player played in when they qualified) NOT the division they are eligible for at this years worlds. To find the division one is eligible for this year, one should look....well...nowhere.
It is not published. 2005 eligibility is published http://www.pdga.com/documents/05DivisionsGuide.pdf , so assuming nothing has changed, one could add a year to all the "born after" dates to determine 2006 eligibility. If one did that last year, they would have been wrong because there was a rule change. I don't think there is a rule change this year, but I'm no expert. As a last resort, one could call the office I suppose.

Thanks for publishing that link Chuck! Just out of curiosity, how does someone looking for that information by going to pdga.com arrive at the page you posted?
Going to pdga.com then clicking on "Rules" then 804.08 "Classification of Players" yields:
"PDGA divisional classifications are determined by the PDGA Board and the PDGA Competition Director. They are published each year in the PDGA membership/renewal forms and are posted online at:http://www.pdga.com/members.php "
which is the "Membership" link at the top of pdga.com.
From there, clicking "Classifications" leads to "2004 PDGA Tour Player Classifications & Divisions" which is now wrong. Clicking "Divisions Guide" leads to "2005 PDGA Tour Player Classifications & Divisions" - the link I posted earlier which is dated. Clicking "Divisions, Ratings, and Points Factors" leads to "2005 PDGA Tour: Table of Player Divisions, Ratings & Points Factors" which is also dated.
A newcomer would find age division information very difficult to discover without Chuck's link - so thanks again :)for providing it

My buddy tried reseving the room at the host hotel yesterday. All the grouped rooms were booked, we decided $82 per night was a little steep, the hotel next door was completey booked. So now we are staying at the Red Roof Inn about a mile away.
This is going to be huge, I hope no one is banking on the wait list.

Click on the Tour Information link in the box on the upper right side of the PDGA Home page. All of the links to documents relating to the current season are placed on one page each year like sanctioning, divisions, points, etc.

... w-a-i-t a minute ... something that might as well be discussed here as anywhere else ... (and) forgive me if I haven't caught these topics on other Threads ...
... basically been busy ...
.
... here goes : ... (?) did the PDGA just make "Jump-Putts" illegal (?) ... I think so ... it's pretty "black-n-white" in section 803.04(1) ...
... ok , so I answered that one myself ... a jump-putt is now illegal ...
.
... and here's another problaym-Oh : The "Drinking-Light" is lit , fellers ... follow me here ... "The Tour Standards" (2/3/06) state that in "late 2002" , 804.05 was amended , re-clarified , etc. , etc. to prohibit alcohol (period) during PDGA play ... no TD discretion ... just (bang) automatic DQ ... also (quoting here) : "applies to all 2005 Tour Events" ... whoops , last year's rule only ... now in the (1/1/06) "new Rules Book" (that little thing that all Players carry ) ; 804.05 does not say this ...
... sez: (not verbatum) "illegal consumption of alcohol" AND that offenders "may be warned by TD" ... now , if I'm of legal age ; and in the Park or Farm Property the Course is on , drinking a beer is legal ; then my consumption is not "illegal" ... the TD can't even warn me ...
...and even if he went to the trouble to "specifically prohibit consumption of beer" ,
(which shouldn't have to be his job) ... does he "specifically prohibit throwing from O.B. ?...
... does he "specifically prohibit" calling out the wrong score ? ...
... does he "specifically prohibit" running past mini-markers before release ? ...
... does he "specifically prohibit" artificial devices hooked to your arm helping you throw 800 feet ? ...
; he "may" just warn me while I'm having my 6-pack ...
... not an "automatic DQ" ...
.
... if , if , IF , IF the PDGA intended to maintain the Rule they installed in "late 2002" , and penalty thereof ;
why , in-the-whole-wide-world , didn't it make this latest RULE BOOK (1/1/06) ...
.
... only one answer : it must be "off" now ...
... it's not in the NEW Rule Book ...
... the only place it's "mentioned" is in Tour Standards text ...
... and then , it "used to apply" to '03 , '04 , '05 Events ...
... not now ... not with our new Rule Book ...
... so , the "drinking light" is on again ...
.
... how can it be a "rule" if it's not in the "rule book" ??? ...
... if someone were taking the current "Officials' Test" , how could they answer any question based on 804.05 any other way ? ... they're taking a "rules test" ; not a "tour standards test" ; not a "local community jurisdiction test" ; not a "Baptist Catholic Methodist by-laws test" ; a "rules test" ...
.
.
.
.
... ugh ...

I think you should've read your rule book before. Per the PDGA rules of play since at least the 1997 revision, and probably before that but I don't know for fact, you have had to have a supporting point in contact with the playing surface on the LOP and within 30cm of your marker. That is not anything new.
Jumping and then releasing was illegal before this latest rulebook came out.

You are right, the question about disqualifying a player who was drinking alcohol during a tournament was the most difficult question due to the wording of the available answers.
Either way I passed the test, so I do not know if I missed any or which ones I did miss.
But considering the courses we play on are on public parks where consumption of alcohol is illegal and posted, and considering all TD's I have seen have prewarned everyone about alcohol and drugs. If a player in my event was caught drinking during the tournament (start of players meeting to the finish of awards ceremony) on tournament grounds, then I would immediately DQ them.
But that is me. But within my power of enforcing rules.
Now back to Worlds Talk!
Steve Mills needs to be careful if any of these courses has trees. He can only play open courses. :D

Just wanted to make this distinction (although I personally don't drink when I play). Consumption of alcohol is NOT illegal in ALL public parks in Oklahoma. Although I think the PDGA rules have been pretty clear in the past about not allowing alcohol consumption during a sanctioned event, there are many parks in OKC where consumption of alcohol is perfectly legal.
Sorry for the digression.

I don't really know what Wayne is trying to do here.
Nothing has changed in the rules about drinking or jump putts for many years. The 804.05 clarification is still in the tour standards document where it has always been. It still requires TDs to make a tournament rule against alcohol where it is otherwise legal.

... exactly several of my points there ! ...
.
... ? why is a "rule" not "in the Rule Book" ? ...
... players carry and read a "Rule Book" ...
... players do not read or carry a copy of "standards" ...
... besides the fact that this "standard" applied to 2005 ...
.
.
... if it's illegal during Play ; if it's strictly prohibited in all cases and at all venues and on all Courses ,
. . . . . . . it SHOULD have been made a "bye-gawd" RULE ! ...
.
... ( not a suggestion ) ...
