When you come through St. Louis I would suggest Jefferson Barracks, Endicott, or Souix Passage. All the very top notch courses.

OK, I'm from Springfield, but I had never even heard of disc golf before I moved to Tulsa about 1 1/2 years ago. I was born and raised and lived in Spring-town for 25 years before moving to T-Town. Although I think disc golf in Springfield is growing, I don't think it's not a city I would recommend visiting on your way to World's. I, like Kevin, would recommend KC.

If, however, you do stop in S-field, I would direct you toward Tom Watkins Park which is right off of I-44. From the Kansas Expressway exit, go south on Kansas Expressway, turn right onto Kearney St. , turn left onto Elizabeth St then right into park course.

Tom Watkins is the oldest and best course in Springfield. While there are new courses, I feel that Watkins is the only good course in S-field. It has long and short holes, with with some rolling terrain. 7 holes less than 300 ft, 9 holes between 300 and 400 ft, and 2 holes greater than 400 ft. Natural tee pads.

To bad you are not going through Peoria IL! It is in my opinion it some the best disc golf. I like Northwood Park In Morton and McNaughton Park in Peoria. I only get a chance to play them 7 times a year when I come home for 5 days a year to visit my family! But I have wanted to stop in St. Louis nd heck out there courses!

Kev - Houston Flying Disc Society is loaning some water coolers to you guys in Tulsa. The question is: Do you want them before the tournament begins, or can I just bring them up with me? Send me a PM.

In checking out the photos of the courses, I'm quite impressed. I didn't know they had that many trees up there, where did they come from? Did you guys import them just for Worlds? LoL!!! :D

The photos look great, and it is good to get a peek at what we have in store for us. I can't wait!

Oh! And many thanks go out to all of the volunteers you guys have working on this tournament. It doesn't happen without the volunteers, you guys all deserve our thanks and appreciation. THANKS!!!

We are donating them to you guys (as opposed to a "loan" of them...) We finally got all of the club water coolers together for States this year, and along with some newly donated ones, we ended up with extras, so we are giving them to you guys for Am Worlds and beyond!

I'll be bringing them up with me when I come...Kev says they are destined for Mohawk...

How many do you need?

Well, I know for sure that I am on my way to TULSA. I cant wait to get there. I paid today and i am starting to count the days.

BTW, As far as predictions go I know I will be having the most fun.

I will say that David Wiggins Jr must be the favorite (AGAIN) for his divison. at 10 years old he is a 2 time defending world champion winning both by 99 strokes. He just set his 3RD world distance record. At 10 years old he threw 399ft. I can't wait for you guys and gals get to see him throw.

May 19 2006, 09:50 PM
Mr. 99 as he is known in these parts.

The Kid can flat out yack it a long way. I heard from Sr, he actually has thrown over 400 several times.

With the Holiday Inn being almost fully booked(only option the now have is one king size bed, which is not an option for me). I was wondering if the good people of Tulsa could tell us visitors which Hotels around the same area we should try or NOT try. What about the Red Roof or Baymont? I would like to stay close to the Host hotel (walking distance). Any help would be great!

Melissa
May 20 2006, 12:21 PM
I would recommend the Baymont Inn over the Red Roof Inn, but either one would be OK.

jose
May 20 2006, 12:25 PM
Travis - the Red Roof Inn could not be any closer to the Holiday Inn. It would be my first choice now it is an economy hotel so do not expect Holiday Inn type amenities but it is the closest. I have actually stayed there one night ( long story) and it was clean. I do not know much about The Baymont but it is across Yale which could be a hard street to cross.

Sorry fo the quality of some of the pics. It was a very quick walk through. I will post more as we do more work to the course.

Hole 6 tee The basket is straigh through the middle and the hole provides a left or right hyzer shot.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i176/Twoputt/Mohawk021.jpg

Hole 7 tee. Straight shot, easy birdie
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i176/Twoputt/Mohawk023.jpg
Another shot of hole 7 from the tee
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i176/Twoputt/Mohawk024.jpg
Hole 8 just right of the tee bos. This is a very tough shot for the lefties.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i176/Twoputt/dov00270.jpg
Hole 9. Straight away but watch out for aponds on either side of the fairway. This hole has been all mowed down now.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i176/Twoputt/dov00272.jpg
Hole 10 tee. Long hole, the big arms can make it, the rest of us bail out to the left and play it for a 4.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i176/Twoputt/dov00275.jpg
Hole 12 requires two good pulls, you need to stay in the fairway on this one or it could be a heavy price to pay.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i176/Twoputt/Mohawk025.jpg
Hole 13 easy 3 with a well placed drive down the middle.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i176/Twoputt/Mohawk028.jpg
Hole 14 tee you need to land just past or next to the big tree on the left in the pic. If you go to deep, it will take two shots to get back.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i176/Twoputt/Mohawk031.jpg
Hole 14 landing area. From here it is a smooth right hyzer to the hole. A 3 can be had here but most will take a 4 or worse.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i176/Twoputt/Mohawk032.jpg
Hole 15 easier for the lefties but a birdie will be had by most players
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i176/Twoputt/Mohawk036.jpg
Hole 16 tee This hole will require two GREAT shots to get a 3. There has been one three so for with lots of 4s, 5s, 6s and higher. Stay in the fairway!
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i176/Twoputt/Mohawk039.jpg
Hole 16 landing area
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i176/Twoputt/Mohawk041.jpg
Hole 16 finally looking at the basket
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i176/Twoputt/Mohawk042.jpg
Hole 17 Good birdie for all, this hole has a right or lefty line.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i176/Twoputt/Mohawk046.jpg
Hole 18 very tight fairway, stay in the middle or to the left, the right side can be trouble.

Sandalman,
Come on to Tulsa. Last time I saw U was world AM doubles, TX. U did not have time for another lefty, me. I am another lefty that watched you throw leftys like I do all day. Come on up to big T-town for one of the best world AM Championships ever. I know a few of the crop of boys that are moving to Pro Masters after this worlds, are U? I also know and have played w/the guys that I feel will be at the top.
It would be cool to take on a couple of rightys at worlds and kick there ars in dubs, maybe for just bucks, on an off day. I know a couple of righty contenders that will see this, you game?

Peace,

Don't try spouting any response from that man hole of yours, its too late. This old man offered you a chance and you passed on it. Was it the $50 that scared you or was it the fact you might have broken a sweat or gotten a mosquito bite?

Yes, Billy I have seen you out on one or two ocassions, but you know as well as I do, there have been many many days, you're setting your butt around the house, knowing we are out working. :(
I and the others mention you because you need to have your butt kicked, if we didn't like you we wouldn't waste our time.

So, you want me to name some others? Please don't make me lump you in with them.

Jesse Sellers
Sam Nielsen
Johnny Thompson

Jesse (the guy that hit the ace at riverside)

Jeff or _THE - of course you can volunteer even though you have not been able to come over and work on the courses. I will put you on my list and make sure you have something to do.

I will take good care of the volunteers. Also, if anyone is playing in Worlds but has the Sunday and/or Monday prior to the singles rounds to volunteer just let me know because I need volunteers for those days as well. Likewise, for those who want to volunteer but cannot get off of work - I need volunteers after 5p. during most of the week.

My point being, I can use volunteers in many other places other than just on the courses during the day so if you have any time that you can give to volunteer please contact me (918) 636-5673 or [email protected] or PM me.

Thanks for the positive comments. We have, or some of us have been busting our butts at our day jobs, then working every night until dark. We will pour another 20 tee pads this Friday. That will be 36 poured at Mohawk with another 12-14 to go. ;) The bridge has been completed and is strong enough to drive a truck across it.

We will be at the course on Monday with all of the city officials to show them the progress we have made and show them the things that they will need to do for us, like continuous mowing and maintinace of the courses.

If all goes according to plan, the courses will all be finished by the end of June and Mohawk will be ready for the grand opening on July 8th. If anyone is coming to town and would like to see the courses, please contact me and we can give you a tour, or just plan on being here July 8th for the Grand Opening. :D

Hey to the powers that be, would it be possible to also run an Adv. Div / Jr Div, parent/child (father/son, mother/daughter, grandfather/grandson, etc.) doubles? I have sent this on in e-mail as well but I would like to compete with my son, against other father / son teams. Open it up to volunteers and require an age difference of 20 to 30 years between partners. This would also allow Grandmaster/Adv teams to compete. Just a suggestion.

Four weeks ago if you would have asked me to be honest about having Mohawk ready for play, I would have been very doubtfull. But, after all of the volunteers that came out to help for the last three weeks, we are almost completely done with Mohawk. Is this Open rated par, or intermediate rated par? It looks intermediate, as per the distances. Also, does anyone know how close the Advanced pool is to filling? I know a couple of people entering this week and they are sweating the possibility of that division over filling. Thanks guys!!

Jun 19 2006, 03:23 PM
The White course is Rec par

The Black course is standard par...Some of the distances can fool ya. Some of the holes that are 450ish range that are par 4's are due to the toughness of the hole and the bends in the fairways that will make them two shot holes. There will be the occasional 2 on a few of the par 4's but they will usually take 2 perfect shots

Jroc

WhiteHawk is VERY similar to Kilbourne
as BlackHawk is more like Charlottes Web aka the Nest

I enjoy playing all the courses at MoHawk

Maybe Someday <font color="FFA824">GoldHawk </font> can share with <font color="red"> RedHawk </font> just like <font color="silver">WhiteHawk</font> shares with BlackHawk.

No need to DISCriminate on WhiteHawk its a fun track. And alot harder than people think. ;)

Guess I should have been more clear in that post. I meant that the flyer doesn't account for an intermediate division, and was obviously failing at being funny in that. Oh well. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

What is the player cap for each division? Specifically advanced...the current registration shows 162 players...what is the cap?

Thx, 3 more weeks!!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE,
what's the quality beer selection like in Oklahoma/ Tulsa??
Any crafty beers worth seeking out?
What's the on/off sale situation?

I'm a beer snob when possible, Id rather spend a few extra bucks and enjoy whats killing my liver ;)
thanks...pm or post

Wammy
Jul 07 2006, 11:54 AM
That is a very important question! :) Oklahoma sells 3.2% beer only. You can find a limited selection of "real" beer at liquor stores (sold warm- liquor stores are closed on Sundays). My best advice, bring your own...and bring us some too!

deathbypar
Jul 07 2006, 11:59 AM
Unfortunately the beer situation is not optimal here in OK.

The beer in the liquor store cannot be prschased cold, and if you buy it anywhere else (other than a bar) it is only 3.2%.

The one saving grace for Oklahoma beer is a micro brew called Choc. I like it a lot. ;)

Also Boulevard Brewery is a supporter of Disc Golf.

2006 PDGA World Championships Registration Update #7
#563914 - 07/06/06 02:53 PM Edit Reply Quote

The 7th batch of players registered in the 2006 PDGA World Championships has now been processed and posted.

Total players registered to date:

Ams - 474 including 53 Juniors = 73.1% of capacity.
Pros - 228 = 79.2% of capacity

i'm not trying to make anyone feel stupid...but the pdga has ADDED the announcement section to the board to put info from the pdga on...plus right on the home page there are links to BOTH worlds,ALL the majors,an NT link and usgdc link, any of which will take you to THEIR websites which can probably answer your question before you ask it here....

besides after answering hundreds of these same questions when i ran 2002 am worlds (when there was NO pdga announcement section) makes me more suceptable to calling people on silly questions  :D

Keith - are you still upset about answering the same questions for 2002 Worlds four years later? :p :p :p :p :p

Let the Tulsa boys answer their own questions. When I handled information for Pro Worlds in 2001, it was the same questions again and again, no matter how many places the information was available. Do you remember that I sent you an email back then telling you to be patient with these folks? Please re-read and relax! ;) ;) ;)

The Tulsa folks have been pretty nice and answering the same questions so far. Plus they will need to continue to politely answer the same questions for the next couple of weeks, no matter how many places the information is available.

Hey Travis, Just wanted to let you know, be thankful you're flying because driving out there is a pain. They have little outhouses in the road that call themselves toll booth's, (kinda like a kissing booth) that take money from ya. If you seen what was in them, you wouldn't want a kiss anyway. No wonder everybody plays disc golf in oklahoma. NorthCarolina has and will rule, again. 4 golds heading east

To the powers that be: Is there going to be a shuttle service for the Junior divisions? I am trying to figure out how I am going to get my boys around.

To any parent/child combo... if shuttle service is not available, we need to determine the best way to setup rides. I am in the MM! division, but we won't find out the pool assignments until later. Drop me a line and we will share cell phone numbers and discuss getting our kids around.

twoputtok

Due to the cost of providing busses for the Jr division we will not have official transportation. How ever, when you arrive, please contact myself, Dave Wise and I will make sure your kids have transportaion with a responsible adult. We will also have extra people in place at each of the courses for the jrs to make sure that all are safe and taken care of.
