I noticed this to...I was actually thinking about changing my name to Frazer to see if it would help my game, but then I thought about and figured I might as well go with "Climo".

It's truly remarkable to see how well they're all playing...although Momma Frazer best watch out for Queen D...she's making up some ground in Women's ADV Masters (I'm a little biased and root for the TX folk)

Billy Moody is a disgrace to the great state of Texas, he better stay am for life that BAGGER!!!!!!

Jerry go smoke a bowl or something. Like James said at least Billy has the balls to play Open, not like some of the other baggers that stay am for life. What about the dude who has a 993 rating, and leave it up to Cware to be stirring up this crap. Dont you have something better to do. You should also petition for am status since you suck and will hardly ever cash in the Open division. Down here in Mexico reading this and its all pretty funny. Ill see ya fools next week.

Alot of movement on the leaderboard today, espically by Mr. Bryant. That just goes to show you what clearing a field of 230+ by 4 strokes can do. He did almost the same thing in the Virginia Open when he shot a 46 in Round 3 on the Sunnyside at The Grange. A round which was SO HOT (How hot was it?) No Am. came within 5 strokes of that all weekend, and it was tied for the 2nd best round overall that weekend, and the best disc golfers on the east coast pro and am were there that weekend. That guy is a serious playa. Good luck in the semis. What can you say about Raleigh? They have a really good farm system going down there.

I would like to know about live scoring too. It's a primitive way to follow a sport but it's all we got.

ck34
Jul 29 2006, 12:13 PM
At minimum, we will try to provide live scoring for the Advanced Men final scheduled to start at 2:30 Central. The link is at the usual PDGA Tour schedule site for Am Worlds results.

At this point, there's no reason to believe that won't be the start time but the schedule may have to slide back up to 30 minutes depending on how long the semifinal rounds run and if any sudden death playoffs are required to make the finals. If we can do it, we will try to cover one or two other Final 9s where the battle is close. Those will start sometime around 1pm. There's only one device to upload scores at Mohawk so we'll have to have a few people phoning scores to that person.

I'll be posting semifinal scores from the hotel when they are all in, hopefully before 12:30. Then I'll head to the Finals and we'll have to rely on the wireless setup at Mohawk for any further scores today. Hopefully, Gentry will be able to get all of the final totals posted from there along with a few hole-by-hole finals.

This has to be a first for any worlds.....Possibly 4 world champions for one family in one year. Mother and three daughters all potentially going to win. That would be very cool and they are a really nice family. Dad isn't as high up, in the Am Masters, but that is still very cool. Finish up strong ladies and bring'em home for the Hoosier state.

Sorry if this has been posted previously..I haven't gone back and read the 40 plus pages...

Not many realise that FAMILY is the most important thing we have on this earth. Sooooo many golfers run off from their families to play golf. Bring them with, you may be suprised. My 4 year old has perfect form, snap and follow thru, you will never know when you have the next Ken Climo sleeping in the next beedroom. The FRASIER family are role models for all Disc Golfers. Great things can come from keeping your family involved in what you do! ROCK ON FRASIER FAMILY! Kudos to all of you! Hope to meet you in Milwaukee 07.

What is the new ruling from the PDGA on ties before the cut?

For example in Masters this year the cut was going to be at 52 players and there were 4 or 5 players tied. I thought they would all be eligible to play the semi's, but have come to find out there was a new rule page entered into the rule book for the players and then they had to have a playoff this morning.

What happened to letting all that made the cut # play?

I'm a big fan of making the cut for stuff like semifinals around 68ish preliminarily so that if there are ties at 68th, they all get in.

But if there is a 4 way tie at 72, they don't. Makes things simple.

Two behind Brent going into the last hole, Paul cans a 70 footer for a two. Brent's drive brushed some tree limbs and went only 2/3 down the 400 ft fairway and his upshot was just outside the circle. He misses the putt to take bogey, resulting in a playoff. I didn't see the playoff so some others will have to post the rest of the story.

Jeb has been known to bust out some crazy rounds like that. Check out his 4th round (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=5360&year=2006&include_ratings=1#Open) at this tourney on his home course from the shorts. Not many people have shot a -17 ever, especially in a PDGA. BTW, he missed a putt on his last hole for a 36.

Jeb is just one of those guys who will just all of the sudden destroy a course. He has put up some incredible numbers at many tournaments.

Congrats to all the new world champions, especiall Stew Krall, Little Wiggins (3 in a row baby!) and Andrew Coggin (NC dominates 10 and under).

Another shout out to Jeb for one of the biggest comebacks in the history of the sport, Hal and Caleb for great showings, Warf for his 5th place in under 19.

I'm proud to be from a state with this much talent and I hope I can hold up my end of the deal in Augusta next week!

I said this at the awards ceremony, but I felt it needed to be said again, the staff did a great job. The courses were in great shape. Many cudos to the clubs that worked so hard to get the courses ready for such a great event.

The PDGA personnal, Chuck, Dave, Lorrie and others, it was great to put faces to names. You guys and gals did an awesome job and many thanks are deserved.

To the families that helped get my boys to their courses, your assistance was invaluable. Thank you so much.

To the Advanced Masters field as a whole, you guys are the best group of players to compete against and with. You know the rules, but you still know that this is the greatest game ever played. I met lots of great players that I hope to play with again sometime.

"Two behind Brent going into the last hole, Paul cans a 70 footer for a two. Brent's drive brushed some tree limbs and went only 2/3 down the 400 ft fairway and his upshot was just outside the circle. He misses the putt to take bogey, resulting in a playoff. I didn't see the playoff so some others will have to post the rest of the story."
The rest of the story is Paul and Brent go to hole 9 and Brent throws a nice one down the fairway about 35 feet from the pin, Paul throws one into the ground and then throws his up shot under the pin, Brent boinks his putt on the chastity belt and they go to hole 10 (500ft plus hole), and Paul booms his drive way out, Brent puts his drive to the left and shorter, Brent throws an up shot about 45 ft out, Paul throws a side arm up shot about 25 ft out, Brent cans the putt and then Paul cans his putt, hole 11 (heavily wooded hole about 265 ft), Brent hits early wood and Paul parks it for the duece, Brent runs at the two but blows by and Paul is your champion. If you like to watch disc golf, it was intense!

In honor of Am Worlds 2006

The Amateurs Creed

Amateurism, after all, must be the backbone of all sport, (disc) golf or otherwise. In my mind an amateur is one who competes in a sport for the joy of playing, for the companionship it affords, for health-giving exercise, and for relaxation from more serious matters. As a part of this lighthearted approach to the game, he accepts cheerfully all adverse breaks, is considerate of his opponent, plays the game fairly and squarely in accordance with its rules, maintains self-control, and strives to do his best, not in order to win, but rather as a test of his own skill and ability. These are his only interests, and, in them, material considerations have no part. The returns which amateur sport will bring to those who play it in this spirit are greater than those any money can possibly buy.

I think many forget this motto but I hope it will come back to surface one day again..

Example: One day about 3 or so years ago..my boyfriend, now husband, called me to whine about how horrible he was playing and coulda, shoulda, woulda the entire conversation.. I told him if he was so miserable then come on home..why play the sport if it makes him that upset. He didn't play for about 3 months after that... he said he took time to reflect on the reason why he plays the sport of disc golf and realized he was playing for the wrong reasons. I think he was playing to win most times..which is nice if it falls that way, but that isn't always the way it goes. He has been what I would call, a true sportsman ever since. He is excited about the 2006 Pro Worlds cause he wants to play well of course, but I really think he seems more excited about going camping with me for an entire week, playing some fun golf and also seeing acquaintances he only gets to see once or twice a year.... :D

Thanks for sharing..Lowe....I don't even visit this board anymore not a pdga member, but could still read... but too much negativity.. Our club now has our own message board..but have been coming here this past week reading about the Am World's winners and this was a nice pick-me-up today. Thnx

Okay, a short blow by blow starting with the semi-finals

Main characters..

Jesse Sellers from Ok
Ray Missey from Oh
Frank Garcia from Oh
Myself from TEXAS

We started the semi's with Jesse in the lead by 3 strokes, Ray and myself tied for second and Frank in fourth, two strokes behind Ray and I. After 5 holes Jesse had widened the gap to 5 strokes by hitting 4 birds in five holes and I had only hit 2. I took the box on hole 6 and believe this rattled Jesse, though honestly I was concerned that I would be able to catch him with a five stroke lead. We came to hole 8, about 420 in length with an ob road to the right, I toss a decent drive about 50 ft from the basket, but with a tree in the way for a decent putt, my drive and Ray's were the best, Jesse steps up to drive and he flips his disc in the wind to go OB. He puts his up shot about 40 feet out from the basket. Ray, Frank and I pretty much put our discs next to the basket for pars and Jesse nails his putt for a circle 4. Hole nine I drive on a 369 hole, fairly straight with a tree line to the right. I had the best drive and nailed the put for a bird, I cannot remember, but I believe I was the only one with a bird. Hole 10 I believe that we all par'd and Hole 11 Jesse got the only bird. Next we come to hole 12. How to describe this hole. 750+ feet with a road running just to the left in a bow shape, trees along that bow and in the way for a straight shot. Like two idiots Jesse and I both throw over the road with ani's and both go OB. Not a smart move for either one of us. We end up with circle 6's and Frank and Ray take 4's I believe. Next hole, Jesse looses control. I cannot remember what he shot, but he ended up loosing his lead and then some to completely drop out of the top four.

In the final 9, Ray and I are tied for first with two strokes on Frank and 3 on a gentleman named Gary Moore from Ia. I will not give you a blow by blow, but DiscTV captured my 55 foot putt to get my third bird on this hole http://www.discgolftv.com/newest_videos.php?vid_id=141&vid_cat=Misc at 1:51.

Frank played a very smooth game and both Ray and I give him back the 2 strokes we had on him. Gary played well but could not close the gap. On the last hole of the final 9, Ray, Frank and I are tied for first place. Ray throws a bad drive into the ground, follows that with a poor up shot to finish with a 4 on the hole. Frank and I par out. We now have to go into a sudden death.

We started on hole 9, I have played hole nine three times now and birded each time, but this marathon session of golf is taking it's toll. I was almost ready just to throw in the towel. The temperature was just short of 110 and I was fading fast. I won the flip and chose to throw first. I landed about 60 feet to the left of the hole and almost pin high and missed my putt, Frank was about 35 foot out and he hit the basket dead center of the Innova Chastity belt. We go to hole 10. As I stepped up to the tee box I thought to just concede, but I couldn't do it. My drive was not bad, but only about 320 on a 550(?) foot hole. Frank had a beautiful drive, about 360. I stepped up to make my upshot and dug deep to get enough strength and concentration to put it near the basket. The basket was about 250 feet away with a set of trees to the right about 35 feet short of the basket. I had to throw it low and hard to hit a skip just under the limbs to have it drop 15 feet from the basket to the left. Frank throws his up shot and nails those trees, putting himself 50 feet from the basket with trees in the way. He almost nailed his up shot around the trees with an ani, but comes up short. I nailed my putt to par out. And then I started to smile........

Everyone's scores over the whole week were included to produce unofficial ratings for each course. Each time a new pool played a course, those scores got added to the previous scores and the ratings changed a little. Fortunately, the weather was about the same all week.

Thanks for pointing that out. Looks like the online software has a short memory. Apparently, one of our final uploads somehow reset the course assignments for some divisions in earlier rounds. Players might want to check their round ratings again because several probably have changed now that I reset the proper layout assignments.

It was great seeing Jay and Des and a few other big name pros there including Juliana, Ken, and Nate Doss. This was a great worlds no matter what my low finish says. I do have one question I lost a grand total of 5 discs and they were not in the lost and found through the week. Is there anywhere I can check back in a couple of weeks for more discs that have been found? A few of them were real sweethearts of mine.

Again thanks for everything Tulsa!!!!!!

I am holding out for either Ace Bandages or 5K jogging strollers. Though I do have to give thanks to my two sponsors, Texas Ten Series and Twisted Flier both of whom have contributed to keeping my hairless head from burning. I guess this means that I am Twisted now too.

Now that I have had a day or two to regain some needed rest, I would like to take the time to thank all of the PLAYERS that attended this event. While I know there have been lots of thanks to our local crew and staff for the job we did, I think it is in need that we thank all of the players.

With out all of you the event wouldn't have been the success that it was. I have been to several tournamnets over the last 4 years and I have to say that this group of players exibited the best attitudes, manners and on course conduct that I have ever witnessed at any tournament. You should all give yourselves a pat on the back.

I was lucky enough to meet many of you and now feel like I have a new group of friends all over the country.

Thank you for making it the best experience I have ever had.

I should have more up soon.

I will also take this opportunity to add my thanks to all of you who put in so much time, effort and love to get your courses ready for all of us. My buddy and I drove a total of 52 hours round trip to visit your fine city and we were not disappointed.

I met some fantastic people and played some great courses all while getting my money`s worth by making so many throws.

The only sad part was me leaving three (count them...THREE) discs behind (MaceMan Valk in the pond at Blackhawk, a KC Pro 10x Eagle in some long grass at Blackhawk and a DX Orc in the river of poisonous snakes at Redhawk) and the fact that the hotel ran out of internet...you`d think they`d have stocked up! :D

Absolutely a great time and I could not have asked for better for my first out-of-town tourny...except for a lower score, of course.

Thanks again!!

My turn to say THANK YOU Tulsa for putting on such a great event!!! The courses, the hotel, the staff, the players.....EVERYTHING was wonderful. We could not have asked for a better vacation!! We met so many people from so many different places, and it was nice to put faces to names that we already knew about. I played well enough for 5 rounds to make the semis :)....but not 6 rounds :(. But cant complain too much. I still averaged over 3 strokes higher than my rating says I should. After I got over being #$*&$! off, I was satisfied overall with my play

Misti finished near the bottom, but had a blast playing on the same card 5 of 6 rounds. My wife expected to have a good time, but not a GREAT time....by Fri, she was asking me if we could make it to Milwaukee next year! THATS how much of an impression Worlds '06 made!!

Thanks again Tulsa...we look forward to seeing you guys again. Combined 2010 Worlds?! You can count us in!!!

SuperGirl had a great time at Worlds. The courses were great and so were the people.

SuperGirl played well, however she did have one glaring problem during the tournament. Whenever she had to play 2 rounds in one day (like on Thurs and Fri), she played well in the 1st round of the day, but started poorly in the 2nd round of the day. I've seen this happen to her in other tournaments, but I am not sure why. When she plays 2 rounds in one day, she doesn't seem to have any energy in the 2nd.

This years Worlds was a perfect illustration of this problem.

Nicole played well in the 1st round of any given day.

Nicole beat Rebecca by 4 strokes in round 1 (only 1 round played on Tues)
Nicole and Rebecca tied in round 2 (only 1 round played on Weds)
Nicole beat Rebecca by 2 strokes in round 3 (1st of 2 rounds on Thurs)
Nicole beat Rebecca by 1 stroke in round 5 (1st of 2 rounds on Fri)
Nicole and Rebecca tied in final 9 (only round played that day)

When there were 2 rounds played in one day (like on Thur and Fri), Nicole had problems starting the 2nd round of the day.

In round 4 at Hunter (2nd of 2 rounds on Thurs), Nicole started poorly. She was 17 over par after 8 holes. During our practice round at Hunter she was 17 over for the entire round. During those 8 holes, Rebecca beat Nicole by 10 strokes. In the last 10 holes Rebecca beat Nicole by an additional 4 strokes.
In round 6 (2nd of 2 rounds on Fri), Nicole started poorly again. She was 14 over par after 4 holes. During those 4 holes, Rebecca beat Nicole by 7 strokes. Rebecca won the round by 7 strokes.

Therefore Nicole lost 17 strokes to Rebecca at the start of rounds 4 and 6 (10 stroke in the first 8 holes of round 4 and 7 strokes in the first 4 holes of round 6). This is big since Rebecca won the tournament by 14 strokes. As I said before, I have seen this happen to Nicole in other tournaments. I am just not sure how to fix this. We spoke with Des about this after the tournament, and she thinks it might be a hydration problem. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions on how to fix this problem going forward please let me know.

Lastly, I want to congratulate Rebecca on winning the world championship. She is truly an awesome player. Rebecca deserves to be world champ. She will win many more championships in the future.

Thanks.Rick

How 'bout the putt at 1:21 on the same video? I was putting uphill on hole 2 at Dovillio. My putter hit the chains and bounced back...it stood up and rolled all the way down the hill and into the water...OB. **** the luck. Check it out though...my reaction was quite comical! I really thought about punting my putter across the creek! To make it all worse, I realized that Allan from DGTV was filming the entire thing! (PS, Thanks alot Allan! ;))

Did you think to play from your original lie (which I assume was closer to the hole) or play from the edge of the OB water?

Melissa
Aug 03 2006, 12:23 AM
Obviously I didn't think cuz I took my next shot from 1 meter off the water. Didn't know that was an option.

Aug 03 2006, 12:26 AM
Unless restricted by the TD, previous lie is always an option on an OB throw.

ck34
Aug 03 2006, 12:27 AM
I mentioned it because it's a good thing to learn, not that you want to have bad luck like that where you roll farther into OB than your original lie. It's the one OB case where playing from your original lie can be an advantage.

THANKS! I am pretty new to this game and continue to learn new things every time I play. I will definitely not make that mistake again. But, it was only one stroke, and I doubt it would've made a difference in the whole grand scheme of things anyway. Thanks alot for the tip! I really appreciate it.

Also, I wanted to thank you, the PDGA, TSDGA, McCoy, Wise, Jose and all the crew with golden shovels for an outstanding experience. I had a great time. Tulsa is a great town with some serious chain love - nice to see coming from Disc Golf Heaven that another town could make me question our motto. 12 courses with less than a half million people; it must be some type of heaven.;)

It's ok Melissa, I'm sure you hit the putt from the bottom of the hill. I got faith in your game. Afterall, you did carry MC in mixed doubles. I've seen him play. He's garbage.

As for the rest of the video, all I can say is I've never hit a 70 foot putt on video to tie on the last hole of Am worlds that propelled me to a win.

With the amount of multi-circle scores coming off of that hole that I heard, I imagine that hardly anybody considered that as an option.

What about that guy who starts kicking his mini for missing a short putt? I missed the shortest putt of the tournament and didn't blow up like that, I was just purely shocked.

Yes I thought Nicole did a great job. It is not shameful to be beaten by a member of the Fraser family. What an awsome job they did, and such nice people, it was a pleasure watching the professionalism of them all. Thier is a reason why marathoners and tri-athletes carbo load the day before competition. Keeps the energy tank full for a longer period of time. Many of us relied on nutrition bars during those last few holes, to survive the endurance. Fill up on pizza, or spaghetti the night before, carry bannanas and food bars to the next event to hit during the last few holes.

Good Luck
