The PGA operates with a set of competition rules that are in addition to the basic USGA Rules of Golf. We are working toward a similar separation into The Rules of Disc Golf where the 804 competition section would just have the minimum number of rules about scoring and running event rules, and there would be an additional rule book like the PGA which covers Rules for Sanctioned Competition. This would be an expanded version of the 804 section which will discuss rules for items like divisions, formats, dress, facilities and libations. We're not there yet, but the Tour Guidelines, which are an addition to our new rulebook, are along the lines of the future direction being taken.
I don't know about you, but I'm getting thirsty.

 2006 PDGA Tour Standards V2.5 2/3/06
Goals are to:
Organize the classification of all PDGA events into their appropriate tiers
Provide a set of event standards where players can expect consistency at each tier level
Make PDGA Tour events affordable for more players
Increase the professionalism and marketability of the Tour
The following PDGA policy and clarification to Rule 804.05, was developed and passed by
the Board of Directors in late 2002, and is a requirement of all 2005 PDGA Tour Events:
Any player who uses an illegal substance or any other substance forbidden by park or
course rules, during his or her play (from the 2-minute warning through submission of his
or her scorecard) shall be disqualified from the event and may be suspended by the
PDGA. This standard applies equally to underage consumption of otherwise legal
substances, as well as to substances illegal for use by all. This standard also extends to
venues where alcohol is otherwise permitted: in such cases there must be a course or
event rule in place making the use of alcohol during play illegal. In summary, the use of
alcohol and illegal substances are forbidden during competition. TDs are to report any and
all such disqualifications to the PDGA as quickly as possible.
This has hit a nerve with me and this is from the TD who is in charge of the PDGA Amateur World Championships.
We have a person who has been charged with the duty of upholding the Rules and REGULATIONS of this sport for probably the most important tournament of most amateur disc golfers, and he is making a mockery of them (the R&R).
Without discussion he has proposed that alcohol be allowed on the courses during play and to hell with the rules and regulations. The Regulations for the Tour were updated on 2/3/06 and thus are a carry over from the previous year. I do not remember any discussion about this being a temporary ban on alcohol.
You, Mr. Forest should have consulted with the Tour and Rule Committee before bringing this topic up on the discussion board.
I am not against alcohol at all, but I do believe that there is no place on the course for it during competition. In the years that I have been playing, there is a remarkable visual difference of all the players. The players carry themselves much better now and finish rounds that previously were not or they finish them in a timely manner.
DO NOT go out and make blanket statements before you know all the facts and how situations will be handled.
Thank goodness MARSHALLs will be present to uphold rules and regulations, since it seem that the TD of AM WORLDS will not.
Now I feel better and this is all that I am going to say about it.

This is a paste of the rule:
"(4) Activities which are in violation of the law or park regulation or disc golf course rule, including the illegal consumption of drugs or alcohol. Directors are granted the discretion to disqualify a player based on the severity of the offending conduct. An official warning of disqualification may be issued by a director where appropriate. "
If the consumption of alcohol is not illegal, then it sounds as if it should not be considered a violation of the rules.

To quote the guidelines:
"TDs further:
agree to enforce the PDGA Rules of Play.
agree to enforce the PDGA policy on use of illegal substances, and, if the course venue allows use of alcohol, to have in place a course or event rule making its use during play illegal. This policy is a requirement of all PDGA Tour events."

We have a person who has been charged with the duty of upholding the Rules and REGULATIONS of this sport for probably the most important tournament of most amateur disc golfers, and he is making a mockery of them (the R&R).

Without discussion he has proposed that alcohol be allowed on the courses during play and to hell with the rules and regulations. ... I do not remember any discussion about this being a temporary ban on alcohol. ... good point ... same as mine ... WHY didn't this become a "rule" in the new Rule Book ... it was formulated in "late 2002" ... the Rule Book at that time was 1997 edition ... I had been looking forward to it's inclusion in the 2006 edition ...
You, Mr. Forest should have consulted with the Tour and Rule Committee before bringing this topic up on the discussion board. ... this can be an effective method of "moving and shaking" ... you'll notice that my posts were not done in "mean-ness" toward people ... not cursive ... not profane ... In the years that I have been playing, there is a remarkable visual difference of all the players. I have definitive aim ... AND I don't just bellyache without having "constructive solutuions" or "fixes" or "theories" to solve a situation ... I'm thinking that I might need to help with the next "Rule Book" revisions & re-writes ... (2009?) (2012?) ... as I introduce our Sport to others , and show them Baskets , and show them Discs , and show them a (gulp) Rule Book : the best thing about it is the cool PDGA logo on the cover ... it might be a city Mayor ... a TV anchor person ... a celebrity Musician ... any walk of life ... anyone could read the "rule-book" ... but they wouldn't know all the "rules" ... I'm not a "rules-zealot" ; but ya know there are plenty of 'em out there ...
.
... self-explanatory : if it's a Rule , put it in the RULE BOOK ...

So I'll buy the Adv Masters all the beer they want to drink before, during and only one after the round at AM Worlds. ;)
Is that a promise! :D Watch out :D
I think the way the alcahol rule is now, in the PDGA guidelines or wherever, is good enough. In non-sanctioned events, leave it up to the TD to make the tournament stance known. Why should an unsanctioned tournament be forced to break a rule to allow not-illegal substances (ref: the Ziegenbock Texas 10 of the past). The illegal substance rule should be good enough. I classify this right up there with the 2 meter rule. Move on to the next subject...

Went by Mohawk at lunch and Dave Zucconi had the Parks Dept crew working hard. All of the brush piles that the volunteers stacked around the course are now gone and mulched. They have been pushing off all of the large fallen trees and starting to dress up the fairways. Next week they will brush hog and then the club can put the finishing touches to it.
Later this week, they will begin the process to have the forms set for concrete on the Red course and poured next week, then the week after we will pour pads for the Black course, the week after that I hope to see Dovillio poured. At the same time all of that is going on we will also be installing baskets and signs.
Things are coming together, soon, very soon all of the courses will be in and ready for the Worlds. :D

My buddy tried reseving the room at the host hotel yesterday. All the grouped rooms were booked, we decided $82 per night was a little steep, the hotel next door was completey booked. So now we are staying at the Red Roof Inn about a mile away.
This is going to be huge, I hope no one is banking on the wait list.
For those of you who want a room with a fridge for freezing your Gatorade and stove for food, check out the Extended Stay America just a couple miles from the Holiday Inn. Jessie the manager there says that if he can get a group of 15 or so people to reserve rooms, the price would be about $39 per night. Can't beat that!

The Tournamnet Hotel Is NOT booked up. I called to check the rooms yesterday and there still 67 rooms available for the 8 night package at $55 and 226 rooms available for the daily rate of $65.
I don't now how you guys are trying to do this or if your calling them on the phone but there is a discount code that notes you are with the Worlds and have access to those rooms. If you just tried to call them on the phone, they may have told you they are full, we have most all of the rooms blocked off.
So, I say again THE HOST HOTEL IS NOT BOOKED FULL YET.
The reservation code fro the 8 night packege is PDG.

Good idea! Had to call three times before I figured out they were sending me to the national line. Then I got the Hotel in Tulsa to keep me there, and the rooms were there! Ask for "in-house" reservations! :D
So now I got the reservations, but at $65.00 per night. So I call back to check out why and the lady says she can give me the room at $55.00 per night, but I can't cancel, if for some reason I can't make it! I have never heard of this before. It should not be that difficult to book a room.

I was talking to a guy at the tournament I was at this weekend. Apparently he booked his reservation in December holding it with his debit card. Well they charged his card for the full rate in excess of $500 this past week. That wiped out his bank account and he was slapped with overdraw fees.
Is the hotel charging the credit cards in advance? I thought they were supposed to only hold the room with the card number. Not charge it before check-in.
Does this hotel have mini-fridges in the rooms? I could not see anything on the website.

<font color="black"> HOTEL INFORMATION </font>
I think the problems with the reservations system have been fixed. The problem of pre-charging the full amount for the 8 night rate of $55 has been resolved. It should not have happened but it was done on the weekend when our contact was not there. She will be calling those that were charged and calling all the rest of the people that have the 8 night guarantee rate. Unfortunately they will be charging the amounts in May. This should give all ample time to make sure about how they want to make their payment.
Those that have the single night rate of $65 have not and will not be pre-charged before check in. The link for the Host Hotel information page should be changed shortly to address the pre-payment policy.

That's done by Hoeniger at PDGA office. Theoretically, all divisions with multiple pools like Advanced and possibly Adv Master are supposed to have pools with the same strength. However, we have been doing the top pool by ratings plus international players, and the second pool with those who have requested to travel together. This may continue to make sense for Tulsa since wind is usually such a factor. I'm not familiar with all of the courses but I suspect that some are much more wide open than others. That would suggest that seeding the 'A Pool' with the top rated and international players would be done. Hoeniger makes the call based on recommendations from the host TD.

What up Salazar? ,
You can expect a tight course at Mohawk Park (new 36 hole facility). Everything else is moderately tight to fairly wide open, holes range from 250-700. You won't be disapointed ;)
I'll get more current pics of Worlds courses up soon.

I tried to book a room last week and also had the problem with instantly charging my card with no cancellation possible; so I didn't book. Was glad to see you worked out that problem so I called this morning and was told that not only were the DG rooms all gone, but the entire hotel was overbooked for the week. The guy said if everyone shows they will be turning people away. He had no recommendation for an alternate hotel. If this is all true I really could use any info on a spill-over recommendation. I'd prefer to use a place that the tournament staff is dealing with.

I was looking at the invited players info I recieved and noticed on the draft schedule that on Wednesday the MM1 division is split and plays 2 different courses. This is before the shuffle. Is this a mistake on the draft schedule? It seems to me that before the shuffle the entire division needs to play the same courses, on the same day. If anybody reading this knows what's up, please post.

UP Date from this weekend from K-Mac.
Thanks AGAIN to all that came out and work at Mohawk this weekend. We got alot accomplished and it is looking GOOD!
There are 18 baskets in the ground at Mohawk, if you want to go out and try it out, you should follow the first 10 holes on the RED course and then walk over and play holes 1-5 on the BLACK course. We have 2 more holes near the ponds on the BLACK course and then #16, the 700+ foot par 5 is in the ground.
The course is still under construction but if you do go out there to play be aware that there is poison ivy, and ticks out there so be prepared.
Also if you do go try it out, please take a trash bag, because there is tons of unwanted trash on the course.
We will be installing a few baskets each night this week. Hopefully by weeks end we will have all the baskets in on the BLACK course (there will be 3-5 holes that are still far from completion but your traffic will help beat the course down.
By the way on the BLACK course there will be two tees, (The BLACK and the WHITE(short tees) The White course looks like it will be very entertaning also if you don't want to bruise your ego on the 8500+ foot wooded course.
twoputtok
Mar 27 2006, 11:25 AM
What did no one see that one of the new courses is 8500+?
I thought that would generate some discussion.
ck34
Mar 27 2006, 11:28 AM
(The BLACK and the WHITE(short tees)
I suggest using the PDGA guidelines for tee colors for these new courses (of which White is one of them). Perhaps Houck and Gentry will suggest that during their visit.
Its not White and Black tees, the courses are called BlackHawk and WhiteHawk.
The WhiteHawk course is a seperate course within the BlackHawk course. Some may say short tees, but the course is different enought to justify calling itself another course.
I haven't seen any BLUEHawks or even GoldHawks flying around this part of the country :D

Mar 27 2006, 11:48 AM
From K-Mac on the Tulsa thread. Just to give you a little insight as to what to expect on these courses.
Let me tell you about a few holes out there if you haven't been there.
#10 on the Black course is my favorite hole out there right now. It was measured at 480 feet yesterday. It is a par 4 that has a pond on the right side and two HUGE trees that is gaurding the fairway on the left side. BIG arms will try and go out over the water to avoid the 2 HUGE trees in the fairway, but be careful because it is 350 feet to carry water if you go this way, and your gap to get to the hole is only 20 feet wide.
If you more reasonable you will throw your drive to the 2 huge trees and then throw a right to left (hyzer for righties) to get a putt for a birdie 3.
There will be an occasional 2 on this hole but the Risk-Reward to get it is very high price to pay to try and get a duece. Cuz if your disc gets thirsty, It will be a VERY HARD 5, I could see people making FROSTY the snowmen on this hole alot.
Hole #6 on RedHawk Hole is measured out at 824 feet, a par 5 that has a creek on the entire right side of the hole. The hole goes about 450 feet and then doglegs right. If you can get a drive out around the 400 ft mark, you may be able to cut the corner and make an attempt to get there in 2, but an errarnt shot right will definatly end up in the drink and a BIG SCORE will be in your future. Yesterday when we took a few sample tosses on this hole the average score was 5. There were a few 4's and there were two that would have had atleast an 8 maybe a 12 if they finished.
YOU CAN PLAY BOTH of these holes TODAY if you want. Go out there and check it out. BRING a TRASHBAG! Help clean this track up with us.

Mar 27 2006, 11:48 AM
Did you rename RedHawk to WhiteHawk because of the Players Cup course in Florida?
Chap
twoputtok
Mar 27 2006, 11:53 AM
No, the big wooded course will be the Black Hawk, the open course will be the Red Hawk.
There are alternate tees within the Blakhawk course that will be called the white hawk course.
There are two courses, with one of them having alternate tees.
I don't really know who to ask this question, so I will just ask on here. Would it be a problem if I post the link to all the "players" information (schedules, field events, that sort of thing)? Some of the Kansas guys are wanting the info.
Some of those holes sound very difficult! Can't wait to lose some discs! :D

I'm so excited about going to Tulsa Am Worlds and I mailed my entry fee in the week after the PDGA invites went out. I am so very impressed with you and your entire Tulsa Worlds Team that I can't miss this one. The countdown clock is classic!
I also logged onto the Tulsa Convention and Vistors Bureau website, http://www.visittulsa.com and ordered a free visitor packet. It arrived in the mail four days later. I didn't know Tulsa had so much going on! It's going to be way fun! Have a great day Wayne!

Just a short note to let you know new items have been added to the pro shop including some cool new styles for the ladies and the 2006 PDGA Amateur / Junior World Championships.
Plan on watching the SPECIAL BLEND ORC make a surprise visit back to the shop early next week. That's right folks... ALL 3 stamps will be made available in limited numbers for a very short time. If you missed out the first time around this is your chance to grab one of the 2006 SPECIAL BLEND Orc's made for this promotion.
Also in the new and exciting department is the 2006 AM Worlds raffle tickets! Here's your chance to get a car audio system from KICKER car audio (the official audio company of the TV show "Overhaulin")a ONE OF A KIND (actually there was 2 made but they won't let the other one go!)Basket from the awesome folks at DGA (Disc Golf association)after seeing this baby you will see why they are "the folks that brought you the game" and last but certainly not least a matching set of 2 Revolution Disc Golf Bags and Towels from our friends at discgolfer.com
So as you can see we've been busy trying to ensure you are ready to have a most Twisted Season!
Thanks for your support, see you on the course.

There have been players who only played divisional or mixed doubles. As long as they are current members and meet the qualifications for the division being entered, it's been approved before.

The website is listed in the invitation package. Its a site similar to the Pro Shop here on PDGA.com. I dont remember the URL, but I DO remember there is an alpha-numeric code you have to input before you can register. That code is also in your invitation package. If you have been expecting an invitation and havent gotten it yet, I would contact PDGA HQ as soon as possible.

It is a sad day. We were just informed that one of our Akansas disc golfers was lost yesterday. Denny Reeves. Denny was a great guy, golfer and volunteer for the sport. We will miss him very much. :(
The below post is from the Darrell Baily in Arkansas.
For those that have not heard. I got a call last night from Ganzel and was shocked, upset and saddened to hear that our own Denny Reaves was killed in a fire at his apartment early wed. morning. I don't know all the details, all I know is he is gone and disc golf will never be the same for me. I still can't believe this has happened and he won't be at the park this Sat. or taking a road trip to Tulsa to help clean up. I have lost a very good friend as I know others will be just as upset when they hear the news. I ask all who read this to keep his family, especialy his two young daughters,in your prayers and give them the strength to get through this difficult time.
GOD SPEED Dennis Reaves(#28415)
It was a pleasure to be your friend.

" ......... it wuz a dark and rainy night ... the kinda night that made a Man wanna just curl-up at the bunkhouse with a good-drink -and- a bad-woman ... but I hadda chore outdoors to finish first ... then relax 'n' recharge-my-batteries from the long , hot , dusty , grueling work-week behind me ... so I angled out to the North & West of my fenceline & drove on into the clammy darkness ... finally arrived at where-I-was-needed with fresh scotch-tape in hand and properly-sized tools in my shoulder-holster ... the time spent at the task went quickly enough , while a light rain whispered on my ears ... a few drops trickled off the brim of my half-gallon hat ... I recalled the label inside : "one size fits most" ... I grinned to myself ... me 'n' me trusty Flashlight had just finished "refreshing" the Schedules & Flyers in the Rules-Sign at Hole 1 of the Course ... after all , that's what Course TD's do , ay ? ... saddling back up in my "trusty , rusty van" ; I proceed to proceed down Riverside Drive to the south ... cause that's the dye-rection of my domecile ... I'm glancing to the right , kinda admiring the little "reflective tapes" jumping out of the pitch as Headlight beams caress them ... noting how every Tee-pole & Basket-pole winks out brightly across the rain-glistened streets ... resting mine eyes in "shades of green" , until ... WHOA ...
.
... had to double-back northward , tie my "ol' paint" up to a side-street curb , grab my battery-powered torch , and deftly saunter 'cross the thoroughfare back into the velvet-dark Park ...
.
... there ... right alongside Riverside Drive ... situated along the East edge of Hole 7 Fairway was a sight to make me pause ... I'm couldn't swear as to how long I gazed upon it ... admired it ... studied it ... but using the "tobacco-reference" method of calculation , I'd have to put that time-estimate of a full 6 to 7 minutes (Greenwich-Mean-Time) ... because I musta smoked a full cigar and a half just sizing this "puppy" up ...
... after being satisfied with my complete assessment of this work-of-art , I once again traversed back across to my waiting steed , pulled up my cinch strap , and gently nudged the spurs towards home ... completely impressed ... happily taken-by-surprise ... and to no small extent , overwhelmed ...
.
.
... Prairie Wolves is now on Display at RiverParks ...
.
... quite simply a fantastic piece of sculpture with 2 HUGE Wolves "posed" at full loping gallop ... a superbly done object'd'art ... I consider it an amazing addition to the Disc Golf Course along Riverside ... too Cool ...

For months now I've been going to the 2006 Am Worlds website to see what these courses look like, and for months I keep seeing "Photos and hole descriptions coming soon". Is anyone in Tulsa ever gonna get this simple task out of the way??? Little more than 2 months remain and it would be nice to see what these courses look like. Excellent job though for whomever took the time to illustrate the Hunter Park course. The other courses should've been done in this manner months ago.

Chill out! Pictures never do golf holes any justice anyway...all you have to know is you will need every shot in your game. You can expect tight LONG holes, tight short holes, holes with water and creeks will be in effect, you can also expect long/short OPEN holes.
Spread the word, bring your game not your attitude, you will enjoy yourself I promise.

As Co-TD of the PDGA 2004 Worlds in Des Moines, I want to enthusiastically endorse the TDSA (Tulsa Disc Sports Organization) and the PDGA Am/Jr Worlds 2006!
The TDSA has been working on their Worlds planning, tasks and organization since the fall of 2004. I was able to watch them present their bid to host the Worlds at the 2005 PDGA Spring BOD Summit and they did an excellent job of preparation and presentation. The quality and depth of their staff and team helping out is fantastic. And they have been diligently fundraising, working on their courses, and promoting the event. (Did you read the articles in DGW and Disc Golf Magazine?)
I know it is going to be an amazing, fun, challenging event and they are going to do a super job with amenities too! And so that is why I sent my entry fee in back in March and have my hotel room already reserved!
There are over 300 people on the waitlist which opens up in the next week or so. So I encourage you to send in your entry now and guarantee your spot if you were invited! They are going to put on quite the show and it will most certainly rival Des Moines!! Im so looking forward to being a part of it!

If those are good representative shots of the OK courses......advantage..........NC. Those fairways looks like football fields.

ugh....this thread was clean of N/S Carolina prima donnas until now.
You guys act like you are the only ones who have trees on your courses.
YAAAAWWWNNNNN! :p
I don't see one entry from NC in advanced, and until I do, how about you guys shut your hole about the courses and how good you will do. The only entry from SC that I see is Paul Bergey and he is from Norman, OK. :D
Where you guys at??? :o

Never talked about how good I will do, I will see after the end of the first 6 rounds, then if I make the cut, I may talk some game. I was just poking fun about how the Carolina guys say they are so awsome in the woods.
I am hoping that with my new job I can get out to Tulsa for a weekend before the tournament and practice the courses. But I am just looking forward to a week of fun. I am not scared of the length, wind or tightness of the courses have to offer. I am just looking to throw well and be happy with a week dedicated to disc golf.
The only thing I would talk smack about is the distance contest. Billy Boy is goin' DOWN! :o

Hi All,
Travel Logistics Question:
The plan is to do a long leg between Ottawa, ON and Indianapolis on our way to Tulsa with another stop in Springfield, MO on the way. Having not played the areas before, are there courses we should definitely play or definitely avoid in the Indy or Springfield, MO areas? Thanks.
:D

I would suggest any of the Kansas City course before Springfield...

I would stop in Des Moines lots of golf there,if you haven't been there, and I wouldn't waste my time in Springfield, stop by Waterwork in North KC.
