Here is a copy of the schedule. Doesn't look like there'll be any time before 5pm on any day available for casuals. Looks like on Tues after 5, you could play Haikey or Hunter. Wed after 5, McClure or Dovillio. Thurs and Fri, every course, after 5.

If anyone knows how to get in touch with the other U13 girls (Rebecca and Taylor), please tell them to sign up for doubles so the U13 girls can have a doubles division. I am not sure, but I think they need to signup today. The cost is $10 per girl and they play 2 rounds of doubles on Monday.

...Here's what I think I'd like to organize for any interested poker players - Wednesday night in the private party area say 9:30. Texas hold em tourney style (get there between 9:00 and 9:30) - seating is limited to about 14 max.

And then at the players meeting last night, they had all of us go up to the front and they gave us each boxes of really cool PartyLite candles and candle holders. And today after our first round, top Pros Des Reading and Courtney Peavy are going to have a meet and greet, Q & A, games, and instruction.

Wow Tulsa! Thanks for making us women feel so very special and welcome! You rock!

There are 72 slots in the F pool, why aren't they all being filled? (I see that there are a bunch of ties for the next slots, but nonetheless, the F pool should be filled with 72 players...especially when shuffling pools after only 2 rounds.) Hope this doesn't happen in Advanced too! The remaining 4 slots in F pool should be given to somebody...heck - go by order of registration date or something. But fill those slots!

ck34
Jul 26 2006, 10:11 AM
Nope. The policy is to not break ties unless the number of players tied is so high that the pools would be very unbalanced (say 70 and 54). The Master split is 70 and 65 which is just fine. The only tiebreaker available for the shuffle is PDGA number which is felt to be a weak way to split ties by the Competition Directors. You cannot use previous rounds as a tiebreaker because players who are tied played different courses for their last rounds which many times have different SSAs.

The slots are not filled because only 136 players registered for Advanced Masters. Technically, 144 could have played in this division. Seems illogical to add players once two rounds have been played.

Boy, with this many pools for the advanced guys and not knowing the courses, it's hard to tell who are the frontrunners.

If you look at actual total scores for the two rounds (not the over/under par), it's very close to the correct order already across all four pools because the sum of SSAs for both sets of courses is almost exactly the same total of 101 for Tuesday. Hunter and Haikey added together played the same as McClure and Dovillio added together.

james_mccaine
Jul 26 2006, 11:20 AM
Well, if that is the case then those three guys from what I'll call the midwest pool, and Locostro (sp) from the midwest are the current frontrunners. As a fan, I need Rodney's odds and some real gambling to add a little more spice to this event. ;)

Chad!! Whatsup? Man this Paul kid has been kicking all of our so-called "Pros" *****, even Dano. He's only 17, and he lives in the pinetop/snowflake area. He's currently in 2nd in our Cactus league, and he will definately make the team that goes to San Diego. He says he will move up after Worlds. He's already turned down alot of cash, even in non-pdga events.

Good to see you're still alive, hope you're still golfing.

Man, the kids are killing us these days. They have no fear and usually lots of confidence. Anyhow, will hope to see you at the Tumbleweed (I'll actually be going). Haven't been playing much golf, but hope to get back to it soon. Army makes it hard sometimes.

Keep it up Mr. Wiggins, I am sure everyone is grateful for the assistance and support. The shortened name makes sense. When I thought of the original for Chris, it was right after I realized he was as young as he is (AM Crosstown, we were tied for the start of the third round). He missed a shot, finally, and he looked dissapointed. I looked him in the eye, kind of bummed I was being taken stroke for stroke by him, and said something along the lines of "Suck it up, Buttercup! You got many more years to make that one." He had a chuckle about it, and it stuck ever since. :D:D:D

player rating doesnt matter for all majors.

You could be rated 190 and have accepted one dollar in PDGA play and yeah you could play whatever division you want in PDGA play, but for worlds, you have to have never accepted any cash to play.

This is some crap that this guy is playing. His excuse will be "my rating is low enough"

Jul 27 2006, 04:42 PM
Not really. I don't know the guy, so I am not gonna be nice and say he didn't do something wrong. He signed up, and he shouldn't have. He is an established pro, cashing many times, and now he is playing in an am event. The PDGA may have made an oversite by letting him play, but he knew what he was doing when he signed up. That is not right.

see I disagree with this.

I'm thinking he probably misunderstood the ratings rule and thought it applied to all am events, which it does not. This falls solely on the PDGA.

Billy Moody is one KEWL cat! Nicest guy you'll ever meet. Over the years, i've never seen anyone bring more dates to disc golf events. He's the real DG PIMP!

This is a PDGA boo-boo though. Billy must not have understood the small print. He certainly isn't the type of person that looks to take advantage of people. I guess he'll have to deny the cash......er......i mean PLASTIC! :D

Accepting cash, playing as an Am................... Tisk, Tisk. This could get really messy. Think about the guy who is 73rd @ the cut, if he could have played but did not, and finds out after the fact........ Messy! If this issue is not addressed soon , that could be the issue that ruins 06 am worlds. I would hate to see that happen to the TD, Kevin McCoy, Mike Conners and all the Tulsa Crew. They have put their heart and souls into making this the BEST Am Worlds, to have that tarnished by an oversight, that would be awful.....

939 is close to the top?

Disc golf's divisional structure is meaningless. A 939 rated player playing at Am Worlds is doing nothing wrong. He is merely competing with a lot of his peers, and many people better than him.

Jul 27 2006, 05:58 PM

Billy Moody is a great guy and one of the reasons Tulsa has soo many courses. He owns/use to own 9/18 baskets and would install them at a new course untill the club raised the cash for the course. Then he would move his baskets to another place.

He has also been active in teaching kids the art of disc golf.

He also use to live across the street from McClure.

i use to play Advance with him in the early 90's.

He was always one very laid back dude.

This is exactly why the P.D.G.A. has a process in which a Pro can once again play as an Am. If they can't compete at a Pro level and don't except cash anymore then, they should be allowed to play at an Am level. I do personally believe that if they show the potential to play Pro again then, they should. Can I get a clarification on my last statement from the P.D.G.A., Rhett ?

Does anyone know what happened to the four under 13 boys that all carded a 100 that last round ??Were they stroked or something ??? One of them is a local boy & many of us were wondering because he was playing very well. Thanks, Kevin

That 100 is a temporary score for those boys until their scorecard is found or turned in.

Bring the title home to the best disc golf state Michigan

As I have been told, the card was turned in and was witnessed by several staff personnal, but they cannot find it. Until the scores can be determined, I am guessing they will use 100 as place holders.

Give me a break Chile. Also, it's kind of funny seeing ams criticize him when they apparently haven't played open, yet are rated higher than him.

Seems to me, we should like it when people play above their level. You know, when a 939 player plays open. The sport needs more people like that. Why the hell does it bother y'all now that he has chosen to play at level of his rating?

If we must spew some venom at people, why not reserve it for those that never chose to play in a division where they are challenged, and continue to duck the competition and beat up on inferiors time and time again. Mr. Moody hardly fits that description.

probably because it is the AM World Championships , is it really fair that Niko had to turn down big cash at a NT(KCWO) and this guy gets to accept cash for the last 4 years- I dont think so and dont really see why you think its fair.No matter what he has done for the area Tulsa area DG scene I still think its shady;would you go back to AM status if AM worlds came to Austin?

I agree and rules should be rules!!! You cash in Pro, you stay in Pro. If he has made such an impact on disc golf, he should obviously be coherant of the rules as they are laid out. I would still like to hear why the PDGA let him play or admit that they overlooked the fact that he cashed Pro previously.

atxdiscgolfer
Jul 28 2006, 10:48 AM
your right, I think if you petition to play down a level then you should be able to play everything except major events in the AM division. If he had only cashed in doubles I could kinda understand but since he cashed in singles and doubles I dont understand it.

seewhere
Jul 28 2006, 10:51 AM
the pdga has stated he has petitioned for AM status they just won't answer the question of when he petitioned . per the rules you have to wait 1 year after re-gaining bagger status prior to playing a major.

Jul 28 2006, 10:52 AM
i agree am worlds is not your typical event and should be for those who have never cashed in pro. maybe semi pro worlds?

It's clear Billy is following the rules as they exist, so your first statement makes no sense as an argument for why he should not be playing this week in Tulsa.

I do have a problem, though, with a "former" pro shooting a series of rounds in competition and carding rounds consistently rated about 60 points higher than his current rating. That smacks of sandbagging. Billy -- an experienced disc golfer, a former pro -- SUDDENLY rediscovers his missing distance/accuracy/putting on the one week it makes the largest impact: the Am Worlds???

:p

I've seen this happen in other tournaments this year (though I won't hijack this fine thread to go into those details here). All we can do as fellow players is shake our heads in disbelief and accept lesser prizes when these guys finish ahead of us. (Well, I guess we can work on improving our own game, too, but that's another topic for another thread.)

Chris, your zinger would sting more if I was being critical of him. Then I might be being hypocritical.

Obviously, the rules don't come into my argument much, but the rules are schizoprenic anyway: for most tourneys, they guy is allowed to play advanced because that is where he belongs, but for super special tourneys, where the competition is greater, he is not. So, quoting the rule to knock on the guy doesn't provide justification IMO. Anyways, from what Chuck wrote, he is entirely within the rules anyway.

Edit: I've checked, and Billy Moody's first five rounds are only averaging 40 points higher than his current rating. Only two of those rounds are 60 points above his current rating.

So I hereby retract one third of my outrageous indignation.

Half of these arguments rely on some ideal that doesn't exist in our sport anyway. Lower rated players are simply players playing for cash in the form of plastic. Some players ride this unfortunate fact to the bank while ducking competition. Some play up above their rating. Apparently, the mob thinks those people deserve a scarlet B, while those routinely playing against lower rated competition deserve an award for their fidelity to the holy ideal of amateurism. Complete BS.

Looking at his stats, it seems he even has USDGC and PRO WORLDS experience! He was also rated @ 963 at one time. I dont care what your argument is for him, its just plain ridiculous. Even if he is within the rules, what's he trying to prove? I just dont understand.

I'm not even going to bother looking at how he played at USDGC or Pro Worlds, but I bet he wasn't scaring anyone. Basically, I'll stop since this is going nowhere, but I've seen him play, as well as many others in this tourney. If I feel compelled to tar someone as a bagger, he'd hardly be my first choice, regardless of how much "pro" experience he has.

Point taken.

I don't have a dog in this hunt, either. I'll let this go and get on with my day. But the decision-makers we elected to the PDGA should be aware of how it looks to the playing community when this sort of thing is allowed to happen.

About the worst result for all involved is if Billy were to go ahead and win the event, IMO. Where does he go then? Back up to Open for a year or two...?

The scorecard was found and Junior Boys scores updated.

I'm entering field events and it will take some time to do it. There are several ties that need to be broken for some divisions in some events. So those results will likely not be posted until those ties are resolved later today or tomorrow.

Chappy is at this event as a marshal and knows about the Moody reclassification. If I can talk with him later, maybe we'll have some info to post.

This has to be a first for any worlds.....Possibly 4 world champions for one family in one year. Mother and three daughters all potentially going to win. That would be very cool and they are a really nice family. Dad isn't as high up, in the Am Masters, but that is still very cool. Finish up strong ladies and bring'em home for the Hoosier state.
