I'm pretty sure the under 19 division will find their own rides.
It does not matter which course you are at in Tulsa, you can get to any course in town within 20 minutes.

Hmmmm - I just deciphered the schedule and noticed that we are playing 3 rounds, shuffle, 3 rounds, cut and then finals. It seems like a bit of a light schedule for a week of disc golf!
So with all of this free time we're gonna have, how far away is the casino? Will we be able to trade around for some extra casino bucks? :D
What courses will be available for practice for those of us not playing in doubles? I want to try and arrange a practice schedule so I can hit the courses being used for doubles before Monday...

By best casino there is no comparison. Creek Nation Casino by far. First of all, they are giving each player (except juniors) a free $10 play poker chip. They are giving each player (except juniors) a free entree. That does not even get into the darawing and mini giveaway that I do not know the complete detail so I will not get into here.
The other casinos in town are giving ......... nothing.... oh yeah - they were asked!!!!
Is there any doubt which casino is the best in town or should I say is there any doubt about which casino in town cares the most about us disc golfers and is willing to help out and be a part of the sport and the community???

First I want to thank all of you who have done so much in putting this together for all of us. It is very much appreciated!
Second, will there be water stations at the various courses or is that way too much to hope for? I imagine that - logistically - it would be a bit of a pain, eh?

There will be water stations but everyone is encouraged to go ahead and top off your water supply before you get to the course.
Look forward to seeing you down here.
We will have lots of water stations. But as hot as it's going to be I'm sure keeping the water buckets full will be a mighty chore.
The atmosphere looks like 100 degree days are in our future for the next few weeks, the only front on the map is in Idaho and there is nothing but High pressure behind it, so it WILL BE HOT!!!! and not alot of wind to cool ya down. We would advise that everyone is prepared for the heat by bringing water also to try and keep everyone hydrated. The humidity is usually in the 50-70% so expect to lose lots of fluid and PLEASE make sure you keep yourselves hydrated.

You can only buy 3.2 in the convenience or grocery stores (cold)...you can buy the other (although not all brands are available....no Bud, Coors, etc) in liquor stores, but it's hot until you ice it down. I personally don't waste my $$$ on 3.2 beer, I just ice it down when I get it home from the liquor store

We will be getting in from Atlanta on Sat. afternoon/evening and I wanted to maximize my exposure on the courses to get the most out of it before Tues. I am assuming we should go to the courses that are being used for doubles on mon. first thing Sunday so we don't get in the way. :D

Jul 17 2006, 01:23 PM
I think Dovillo and McClure are being used for doubles. Kevin McCoy would know for sure. You'd probably want to check out Mohawk next since both courses are in the same location. Then Haikey and Hunter on the south side of town. It's a good idea to check them all out whether you play the whole course or not. That way you at least get a general idea on the driving time to each one and where one is located in relation to the other. Don't forget about rush hour traffic in the mornings also. Driving time will be longer than on the weekend. McClure and Dovillio are within a mile of each other while Hunter and Haikey are spaced apart by about 6 to 8 miles.
Blackhawk is definitely the course you want to play though as it will probably be the course that makes or breaks a lot of people. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Sorry I've been kinda busy practicing for this little tourney coming up in T-town. btw.... I played Blackhawk yesterday and started with a 4 on hole 1, took a circle 5 on hole 8, and missed a 15 footer for a 3 on hole 14(the question mark) and finished at 55. My best by 3 strokes. Has anyone shot under 54 on blackhawk besides Coda?

I seriously think we need to build a makeshift bridge for holes 7 and 13 at Hunter. I've personally never been there in a downpour , but I'm guessing it wouldn't take much rain to cover up the small rocks we normally use to get across. Are we prepared or should we all start doing the anti-rain dance?

Weather.com doesn't know crap. You have to live here to understand the weather predictions in Oklahoma are like predicting the winner of advanced.
If it does rain, we are screwed at that park, unless we shuttle them across. A pain but it can be done.

Last I heard the city will not let us put a bridge there....it is by far the worst "crossing" we will have to deal with. If it rains a lot we will need something there fo shizzle.
The weather channel dot com 10 day forecast for Tulsa, OK.
I honestly doubt it will rain...but if it does we will need a safe way across.

The competitions at all Worlds this century have been Long Drive not official distance competitions. Not even sure when the last Worlds had an official distance competition. It's primarily due to the requirements in terms of field size, levelness and wind requirements that can't always be met at a venue. In addition, not everyone in a division can compete at the same time due to multiple pools. However, the event at Worlds must go on regardless of not meeting official conditions so the decision was made to run it as a Long Drive competition and avoid the issues.

If it is anything like today,, there will be no wind and it will be 104 in the shade but it is Oklahoma and it could be blowing 45mph with Tornado warnings.
If you need to prepare yourself for the Oklahoma summer, I can suggest that you warm your oven to about 150 drgrees, then stick your head in it for about 5 minutes. You get the picture.
As an example, this morning at 8:00am it was 89 with 80% humidity and by 5:00pm it will be over 100. :o:o:o:o:o

What is the best route to Tulsa from DFW, more specifically Arlington? I live right by Veteran's Park between I-30 and I-20. MS Streets & Trips is telling me to take I-35W up towards OKC and then hop on I-44 into Tulsa, for a 318-mile trip. The route I see that looks much quicker is getting to 75, which basically turns into 69 near Denison, and then jump on Indian Nation Turnpike for a few miles, which then turns into 75 and comes into South Tulsa. How much in tolls would that be?
Thanks

I asked Kevin McCoy the same question in May. He told me that the event should meet the requirements for a distance record - mainly a flat venue, but that trees might interfere with max distance throws. nonetheless, if one did throw a record throw, there should be no major impediments to having it certified. The other requirement is an accurate measure of the distance. In the past, my son and I have done it by making the first measurement with a laser rangefinder, and after that if necessary with a tape measure.

I am looking for someone to car-pool to Tulsa with. I would like to leave friday mornng but obviously in my position I am very flexible. I will be staying with my brother up there and riding back to Austin with him as well. So I'm just looking for a ride to Tulsa.

Anybody know if the tv in the holiday inn will connect to a ps2?
To make sure, buy 1) RF adapter for the PS2, 1) Regular Screw driver. That's all you need :D Ask Scott Slater about the hookup at USDGC ;)

Thanks!

I'm sure that we will all drink lots of beer, party hardy, have a great time, and so on. But let's all remember that there were many hours in preparation for both the courses and the event for such a large group of us fanatics. Just think of running an event for 500ish of us? For a week? Tulsa appears to be stepping up well. The Tulsa key group of guys REALLY seem to be stepping up.....Rather than wait until after everyting is a done deal, thanks to Kevin McCoy, Wayne Forest, and Jose' Mendoza. I'm sure that there are many more that have helped out. I hope to shake a few hands and buy a few beers. Shoot, when you get to the older divisions, as I, things are much more appreciated (courses, events, etc.). From afar, Milwaukee (2007) has yet another standard to attain.

Honestly...after watching "Supergirl" play at TWC, I don't think you have to worry about her being in the bottom half of the field! Hope I don't offend any other parents out there, as I haven't seen anyone else in that division play...but I know Nicole is awesome for her age!
Oh, and sorry I don't have a realy answer for you!
Thanks for the kind words. I am sure SuperGirl will do her best. She has being playing well lately. In her last 4 tournaments, she has three 2nd place finishes and won her 1st tournament just last weekend. Last weekend she made three birdies in the first round, which is the most birdies she has ever had in a single round.
However I must say that Rebecca Frazer has to be a huge favorite to win the tournament. Her rating (746) is much higher than the rest of the field. Her rating is also much higher than anyone SuperGirl has every beaten. So Rebecca is definately the top player in the field.
SuperGirl is really looking forward to playing with some other junior girls. Since she always plays in the rec women's division, she has only played in one tournament (Waco Open) where there was a jr girl playing on her card (Trica Virtue). So she is really looking forward to Worlds.

I gotcha, I'm probably the last person who should have responded to that since the only time I ever play McClure is during GCD

letho
Jul 21 2006, 11:42 AM
At the Double O we played it a little different from how we usually play it, pretty much it is gonna be how we play it at the minis.
For example
Dovillio Hole 1 and 3 there will be string out there if you throw across the path it is O.B. At the Double O you could be down in the grass or across the path and still be safe.
Throwing from hole 1 to hole 18 for example will be o.b. at the Double O you could have shanked one across the street and still throw it back over and still be safe. You gotta stay between the road and the pink line on holes 1 & 3.
Hope that helps a little.
