Some of you ebay skimmers may have seen the last collection of discs that went up on Ebay. We were able to sell over 40+ classic discs (CE ROC, MIDNIGHT FLYERS, PAT-PENDINGS, 1ST RUNS, ECT), and for that I thank you. Just a FYI - another box of classics is on the way and should be up by early next week. Rumor is there are some more beauties in the box. I won't know till I get a chance to view them this evening, but keep an eye out for auctions by jasper69 or [email protected] I promise you that all of this plastic will be in pristine shape. Check my feedback.

Okay..enough advertising. Now back to your regularly scheduled program.

In a time where everything listed on ebay is "rare" we have to back what we say.

-1 time Mark Horn 40 mold frisbee. Mark was one of the 1st Disc Golf World Champions winning the title nack in 1977. He also became a HOF member this year.
-50 mold from the 1979 Wham-o $50,000 tournament.
-Millennium Proto MR 1.0. Simply a prototype and never made into a production disc. You couldn't find these anywhere.
-White X-Wasp with NO tournament stamp. Only one place to get these. :p
-1976 World Frisbee Championships FB5 & mini.
-Too many more to list.
Plus my regular stash of rare and hard to find golf discs and frisbees.

All starting tonight at 9:00 est.

I don't know if any of you have wasted your $5 - $10 for this video below, but please don't. Not only is this the dumbest "disc golf" related video ever, but they are terrible at disc golf. One very, very bad product and definately not giving disc golf a better image.

Lessons you will learn from this video:

1) It's probably NOT a good idea to film yourself doing drugs.

2) Disc gof is easier than these guys make it look. They even had trouble on a hole that was 90 feet long :)

I will gladly trade my copy for a CE disc of any shape ( I don't care if you microwaved it and then ran it over with your SUV)

Personally, the long winded musical solo is the highlight of the film, or maybe the fact that these guys all have mullets and live with their parents still

I'm doing a little fundraising for a course and its basket fund. There will be some sweet collector's plastic as well as some hard to find stuff too. All the money from the sale of these discs will go directly to the basket fund. The first discs to make it to ebay are a blueberry CE Valk from the first run back in Fall 2000 and a CE Aviar from 2001 when they first came out:

CE Valk - Blue First Run (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3658133968&category=20851)

CE Aviar (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3658276780&category=20851)

Thanks for looking. Hopefully we'll be able to buy a few baskets with the money from all of the auctions.

If I were to guess this would be a '03 CE Roc. The two previous years were not clear discs. '01 was mainly yellow, and '02 was orange. There's a few other colors that are rare. This one with a Gremlin stamp is cool.

If you have the time you should play Sunset, Freedom and Mt Crest. Go to the discgolf.com site and go to the Las Vegas club website. There you can run copies of the course maps. Sunset and Mt Crest are marked well with signs. Freedom is not and there are no concrete tee's, #1 is missing also. Anthen was built for kids, and Piccole is a private course. You can email and if I'm around I'll meet you, [email protected] Have fun. Rob

Photon Glo discs glow in the dark. Photon UV discs react to sunlight by changing from white to purple. Photon UV discs definitely do not glow in the dark.

Well, I just ordered a couple for testing but I would guess that it gets there a lot faster. So, in answer to your question, it may go further but maybe not.

Here's a steal for you with only 9 hours left.

I'm auctioning off one of the blue first run CE Valks from Fall 2000 as a fundraiser. I'm trying to raise money for baskets here in Pullman.

The disc has been hanging on my wall since I bought it. It has never been thrown. I bought it out at Dalaiwood from Papa right after the UPS guy off-loaded the box. There were about 100 red CE Valks and only about 15 blue ones in the box. I bought two blues.

If you have any questions about the authenticity of this item or as to where the proceeds are going, please feel free to e-mail me. This is a legit first run blue CE Valk that's only going for $56 right now.

Look for yourself:

This ebay thing is stupid.

Today, two auctions ended for some sweet CE Valkyrie X-outs. I was the high bidder for several days, and I watched the items for the last 5 minutes of their auctions. With 1 minute remaining on the items, I hit "refresh" on my browser every ten seconds until the auction ended, and it clearly showed I was still the high bidder. Yet some chode got in a higher bid both times within the last 30 seconds. Why didn't the status get updated (from green to red) when I hit refresh to let me know that a higher bid had been placed? So that I could then put in a new higher bid?

I've also listed ten items for sale (http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=lungjel&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=50) and only had one item bought, which barely pays for the listing fees. If I sell the items for any lower a price, I'll lose money over what I paid for them. I might as well donate them to tournaments or give them away to newbies out at the course.

I think I'm getting out of the ebay racket as quickly as I got into it.

You're making it more difficult than it is. Bid the max you'll pay for an item and then don't worry about the last 30 seconds. If someone wants to pay more than you did, so be it. If you're watching that last 30 seconds so you can up your bid in case someone goes over you, then you're wasting time. Bid your max and go do something else.

As for selling ... it's all about open market. If somebody else is selling it cheaper, that's where people are going to go. Nothing complex about it. Remember - most people go to Ebay to get stuff for LESS THAN RETAIL. If you're chargning what the store in the mall down the street is charging, then you're probably not going to get much business. So unless you have stuff you truly just want to get rid of or unless you have a way of aquiring inventory at less than retail, there's not much point in selling there.

You've almost got it down. Bid the max you're willing to pay, but don't bid at all until 10 seconds to go. Don't hold back on your max-bid or else you'll be sorry because there won't be time to re-bid. You go in heavy and you go in late so that nobody has a chance to re-bid. I've learned that the hard way on eBay.

And don't kick yourself if someone else's proxy bid beats you by a dollar. It is highly unlikely that that was their max bid, and you most likely would've been outbid by a dollar even if you went a lot higher.

I'd tell you to take that bid that was made, but I recognize the name and might just sell him one of mine for that price! :)

Seriously though, when these first came out I thought they would be hot stuff and an instant eBay fortune. They didn't move. I bought three for $30 a pop new and that ended my speculation days of buying stuff. I thought they'd go over $100 instantly but I never even got the first bid starting them at $75.

See if C5-guy will take it for $75 and move it.

Feb 23 2004, 03:13 AM
yeah, c-5's a great guy and my best customer, without a doubt. i'll ask him about it, but i've got a little more in it than that. (i bought it to help a charity, so it didn't bother me, but it should be worth at least close to what i paid. in my warped mind at least.)

i really don't think it'll lose value, do you? i mean, i got the production numbers right, didn't i? (i was kinda counting on the fact that you'd know this.) at any rate, your advice is appreciated and duly noted. thanks.

anyone else?

Feb 23 2004, 01:13 PM
Mark the problem you're facing is a common one. A disc's perceived worth as opposed to it's ebay worth. Ebay's a great place to unload disc but it seems as though there are alot of uninformed people out there.
I've got a few of these also and am regulated to keeping them in the collection because no one was willing to pay a decent price for them. It doesn't make any sense but that's what the "market" dictates.
I had the problem with a 1st run Blue CE Valkyrie. Very rare but it only fetched a fraction of what red 1st runs go for. And in the very next auction someone goes off and pays a 120 for a USED 1st run CE ROC??????????
We need a price guide similar to baseball cards and comic books. Or even better yet a grading system similar to the latter. send them somewhere and let someone grade them and verify everything including run #'s. That should put the price and interest where it needs to be.

I have been using one of these for over a year now and it has paid for itslef countless times over. It really only works best if you can see the disc, otherwise you are "fishing" in the dark, but it is a great product and has been retooled to last longer and keep its shape better

I think a "Beckett" book on discs is what's needed. Do you know if the DISCtionary that Stancel is working on will do this?

About 10 years ago someone was doing a price guide. Rick Neil is sending me something he did years ago, value will be off but should help identify discs.

EBay is a crap shoot for the seller. I've seen the 2500 disc sell for over $200, then the next time for under $100. EBay is also a crap shoot for the buyer. I've been collecting for 20 years and there's plenty of discs that I know nothing about. This Banshee I've never seen before, I wouldn't pay the $75 bones for it not knowing anything about it. Thus, the need for a price guide. I don't think a PSA rating would be necessary, I can tell mint from storage wear from used.

A price guide would also help establish a accurate value of a collection. When determining the value of my collection there's a $10000 gap when I quote it's worth b/t high and low.

If you want a copy of what Rick is sending me let me know.

Feb 23 2004, 02:32 PM
flyn, that would be cool, but alas, it suffers from the same reason we don't have big corporate dollars and media coverage in our sport. as soon as the big money's involved (oh yes, and collared shirts :) ), we'll have that kind of interest.

while the old school plastic doesn't change much and goes up in value slowly, the constant influx of new collectibles and/or new production info and plastic likes/dislikes that make newer discs collectible, would make a beckett's type publication have to be updated so frequently that it would be a big dollar undertaking for a company/person that would have to get a return of at least decent dollars from the collectible disc market to make it feasible.

imnsho... :)

(wow, that 2nd sentence was one of the longest i've ever written. 76 words and only 1 period. :) )

Feb 23 2004, 03:08 PM
marka,
Understood, it's wishful thinking. Maybe the DISCtionary will be a good guide, like Victor's is for old frisbee's.

I recall asking "frisbeerancher" how he determined value of a disc. He told me a disc is only worth what someone will pay for it. Doh! You know he was right. For now I watch eBay to gauge the value of the discs I own.

Maybe DGWN can add a collectors series in there. Until then there's a few big collectors on eBay to bounce questions off of. I'm "frisbeeviper" on there.

A price quide is something I've thought about numerous times. A paper version similar to Beckett's put out once a month would be a money pit. However an online price quide would work. You sell passwords to keep the site going.

All you would need is 12 or so individuals who deal in the collectors market to give feedback as to what they're getting for items out there and that will set your pricing.

Then use a multiplying system for other varibles.
Prototypes should command higher prices. Custom stamps should be the same way as there is usually only a 100 or so made with a particular stamp etc... etc...

It would have to be a universally accepted system as to assign values to individual discs for sale and collections for insurance purposes. And like Victor's book, just because it says the worth is $xxx.xx doesn't mean that's what you'll get for it. It simply gives you an estimated value.

Setting the site and maintaining it would be the easy part. Collecting the data to get it started would take most of the work. Plus you would need photographs to help distinguish different molds, runs blah blah blah.... That's alot of closet digging.

wonder if there would be enough interest out there to make it work?

Feb 24 2004, 04:37 PM
Good question, so I called the source. It is a Champion Classic Roc in candy fundraising plastic. I'll take out the CE on ebay so as not to mislead! Thanks.

Feb 24 2004, 04:43 PM
The CE isn't what I found to be misleading. Innova called its batch of new usdgc fundraiser rocs ce rocs even though they were made out of candy plastic (not the old type CE). Calling it a roc instead of a classic roc is what I found to be misleading. Please make sure you that you relay it as a Classic Roc.

You're right getting the data input into a data base would be the hard part. Possibly the book Stancel is working on could provide the framework. I.E. List of all the discs, names, mfr.,..........

Between the two of us we could provide most of the pictures of the discs. I'm sure the other dozen serious collectors would help as well.

I believe I got my "Cream Dream" Aviar in 1988. This disc would be 16+ years old. Too nice to use, nice to collect. If you're interested, ask the seller if this is a beadless San Marino. If it's not, then it's not a "Cream Dream".

Adam,
Did you bid on that Aviar? I talked to the seller. It's a blank, pat. pending, beadless, San Marino Aviar. Good p/u for under $40.

So then what would you call the Ontario's or Rancho's? I don't get your post.

I could certainly be wrong, but all the Aviars that I've looked at have the signature San Marino double-ring on the underside of the flight-plate around where the weight is inscribed... This is the mold, not necessarily the location of its manufacturing...

I didn't know that, I'll check mine when I get home. I assumed they were based on location. Thx for the info

I just checked all my gridstamps, aviar's, aviar-x's, and champ avair's. Every one had the San Marino on the bottom.
