So, Pterodactyl, you are saying if there was a limit you would cheat?

Ya know, I thought the same thing when I read that (and even drafted a post not at all dissimilar to yours) until I checked the "Approved Discs" list (PDF format) & learned, to my amazement, that max weight for Teebirds, Monsters, & Aviars is 176.0g.
Strangely, max weight for a TL is 175.1g. Go figger.

You know what, I was just guessing on those 176ers. I actually don't know what the grammage was on most of them because I can't read it on them any more. (Also not a specs-o-file) I'll check my discs when I get home and edit my post if I find anything different. I just throw what I buy presuming they are legal if I can buy them. I doubt any of them are illegal.

The minimum i could throw and still Jam with my Level:
1-CE Valk
1-Ch Boss 175
2-Star Teebird 175
1-Ch Monster
2-KC Rocs 177
1-CH Gator 175
2-JK Aviar 175
1-BB Aviar DX Putt only
This is my bag anyways, Less is so much Better....I play better, I make better Decisions on the course.
I have a CE Roc, 1 extra Boss, 1 star Wraith, 1 Dx ram that i like in my bag, but could live with out.....
I find guys that have 20+ disc make to many mistakes on bad Disc selection and blame their bad game on Disc more than guys with say 10-15 disc. I would dare to say that more Top Pros have 10-15 disc in their bag. Only more if they carry multiple's of same mold !!!! less is more.

Well, the original question was:
What would you have in your bag if there was a 14 disc limit like the limit in golf?
If the limit was 14 discs and you carried the 16 discs you listed, I'm thinking..... :o

It is made out of stronger material than Revolution Bags. I took Sprocket out for 5 hours with 8 discs on each side of the pack and a Nalgene Bottle on each side, and still had room for extras.
It was such a great experience bringing him (and carrying my gear) that he'll come with me whenever possible(most PDGA tournaments excluded).

i know this thread is for 'fun' but the PDGA deciding to have special 'class' of events in this realm would've made more sense than the super class stuff. This is at least still disc golf and not an attempt to make 'frisbee golf' or 'frolf' a competitive/sanctioned sport.
my 9 would be...

Disc--Peed I agree with your bag almost like mine....
One question? Why putt with the Voodoo, i have tried it, what do you like over the warlock or the wizard?
and if you have not tried the New Evo Element instead of your meteor for the same shot...atleast give it a try.
Its flex-xy almost like FLX and it holds an anny line almost as much glide as my leapord and very--very controllable. b/c of the new gummy evo element i throw ce leapord for long control anny, and any thing less with the element.....

KC Roc. 1 new, 1 beat in...strait, hyzers on calm day
CE Roc. 1..hyzer's, wind or no wind (its very over stable)
new: evo element. its like a fast buzzz. grippy and flexx: it holds a great anny line with lots of glide.
Ch Gator: stupid windy up shot
DX Ram: when only choice is to SKIP left...it does(stroke saver)
Way Long:
Str Teebird: controllable D, hyxer, sidearm.(my go to disc)
Ch Boss: new one for hyzers, skips/ beat in for Looonngg D
Ch XCAL: will fly in any wind...this disc "ain't sceered"
Star Wraith: only 1 beat infor Pancake shots up and over (250-330ft) and I use for rollers.
New..CE Laepord: nice and controlled annys, goes where I point it(like a KC Roc with rocket boosters on it)

I like the rounded bottom of the Voodoo. Its mainly the feel in my hand. I also find the Voodoo possesses a little more loft than the Warlock. Basically I like the convex rim of the Wizard and I always have, I just don't like the feel or effect of the bead when putting. The Voodoo is the convex rim without the big bead. I may eventually drive with Voodoos as well as soon as I can get some in the S plastic I like for that. When it comes to driving with Gateway putters, the plastic is more important to me than the mold.
I have seen 2 different versions of the new E Element. I have a stiff white one with an herb leaf on it, and that one flies well, but I don't like the feel in my hand like the Meteor. I also find the Meteor to flip more, which I like, where the Element is a little more like my Buzz. My friend has the FLXish Element and he loves it, but I prefer stiffer plastic.

I trimmed some fat off my bag and cycled in some new stuff. I switched out my Z Preds. In their place I throw an overstable Teebird (more predictable than my broken in Pred for the same jobs) and a Champ Firebird for my new Pred b/c its more overstable and slower for approaches.
So far i'm not missing them.
2-175g Organic Voodoos for putting
1-174g S Warlock (rubbery plastic) beat for short turnovers and hyzer flips
1-175g S Wizard (rubbery) for straight/overstable drives
1-178 ESP Meteor for straight and turnover shots
2-178 2FR green Buzzes one beat one new, beat one does everything on calm days
1-175g 11x KC Pro Teebird for straight drives and soft hyzers
1-175g Champ Teebird that is very overstable for wind
1-174g Champ Firebird (spikes, utility, thumbers, wind)
1-175 Champ Monarch very flippy for turnovers/rollers and strong tailwinds
1-174 Star Monarch more stable for straight drives or long turnovers
1-174 Champ Groove (replaced Wraith-controlled D)

Putters: SE Rhyno (somewhat stable still); DX Rhyno that's beat to death and feels like SE
Mids: ESP Comet, DX Stratus (finesse rollers), X-Wasp, MRX (straighter than wasp)
Finesse drivers: 160 G KC Pro Gazelle, SOLF (one that turns slightly, one that is stable)
Long shots: Z-Flash, Mirus, Star Wraith, ESP Force, Star Sidewinder (roller only)
Overstable shots: ZPred, ESP Pred, FLX Pred, Z-Xtreme
In tryout mode: Stalker, Groove, Meteor (although I love my ESP Comet)
Would like to try soon (no $): Zone, Striker, Boss
My favorite molds are Orion LF and Predator. If I had an endless batch of LF's I think I could throw entire rounds using them for every drive.
Wish Dave D. would run some more KC Pro or CE Gazelles, even as a fundraiser. Very underrated control disc in my opinion.

This is pointless, but what the hell.
Putters:
175g Aviar P&A x2 (new only use for putting)
175g Aviar P&A x2 (one more, one less beat. throw whenever possible)
174g Zone (replaces the aviar for putts or hyzer shots into god-awful wind)
Mid-range
FLX Buzzz x3 (one new and heavy, one straight and beatish, one trashed)
I use these for many drives and forehand approaches
Fairway Drivers
Teebird x3 (Usually I have a stable one in some premium plastic 170-175g and a few 175g DXs in various degrees of wear. Now I have one a dog chewed on. It's great for long turn-overs or flat air-balls that flip and hold right forever. )
FLX Predator x2 (one new, one beat, both lightish 168-172g, for fade shots, wind, and sidearm drives/tricky forehand upshots involving lots of curvature)
Distance Discs: The other discs in my bag stay, distance discs are a flavor of the month kind of thing. I like the ones I have now though:
170g Champ Boss (use it more than any other)
155g R-Pro Boss (standing shots, up hill, less fade, occasionally longer)
166g FLX Surge (beat to hell, awesome glide, up hill, standing shots, go to for big turnovers, tailwind)
172g Star X-Cal (doesn't get much use, but when into head-wind this thing is really dependable)

best thing you can ever do for your game. John Houcks slogan for millinium disc golf, keep it simple. Most top pros will tell you to only have disc that you need in bag, less options create a better player. make the disc do what you want, dont carry a disc for every type of known shot, less is waaayyy more.

I do I like to see what the trends are.
anyways.
I shot 12 down on pretty hard course and set new course record..
I played with my Star Teebird, KC Roc and my Aviar X Only.....
# disc and I shot course record. Les is better.
I dont always do this, I just shot with some guys and tried it...I guess it worked.

In my bag is:
1 175g Echo Excaliber ( long distance and left skip )
1 169g Destroyers (long distance right to left)
2 175g Some Beat up Champion Beasts ( distance left to righty's )
1 171g ProLine DGA Rogue ( long,straight,fast & reliable disc )
2 180g DX Rocs ( one brand new and one seasoned )
1 171g Valkyrie ( another straight flier with great glide )
1 175g Champion Leopard ( currently working in but don't use it much )
3 175g KC Pro Aviars ( for consistent putting practice )
1 171g DX Aviar ( straight down the gut )
1 169g DX Aviar ( slight right fade )
1 175g DX Hydra ( just can't get rid of her )
One of my resolutions are to cut down what I carry. Anything I need to think about? I of course tell myself that each disc has a purpose but.. I'm pretty sure I could cut out some.

Z Force (3): One domey and very stable. Two slightly worn in and great strait flyers.
ESP Pulse (2): One fresh and stable, the other beat and my best control forehand disc.
Z Surge (2): One super beat for rollers, one fresh for long turnovers.
Predator (3): 1 domey ESP for long hyzers, 1 domey Z for same purpose, 1 flat ESP for ridiculous stability.
Z Tracker: Finally beat (2005 Players Cup) and strait flyer for longish backhands.
Z Reaper: Great utility disc, strait or hyzer, backhand and forehand.
Z XS: Rollers and turnovers.
Z XL: Fresh, longer strait shots with a bit of turn.
ESP Nebula: 300' and in hyzer shots that start out strait but hold a great fade.
Z Buzzz: Really stable buzzz, almost too stable...
ESP Impact: Shorter strait shots, or medium range turnovers.
ESP Meteor: Short rollers and quickly flipping or late turnover shots.
Pro D Ringer (2): Main Putter and approach within 150'.
I'm pretty happy with my bag and I feel I have all the shots I need. I would like a seasoned buzzz in the bag, but they are hard to beat in (too dang nice of plastic!). I've been playing with the soft focus as a potential putter, it feels GREAT in the hand.

No your right? I finally made it to a rating of 997. I have decreased Boge's by alot.
My game plan is all about consistency with adding D when possible, Rocs, Teebirds and tt\hrowing putters when ever I can. I love being consistant. I preach to golfers all the time, stop wasting time on getting Distance and work on throwing flat and strait!!! it works for me. But lol yes we do have a similar bag and probably have similar throw styles.
Hope to play together in TX States.

back out with my whole bag in a few weeks i notice that im more
consistant with all drivers and usually a little more D too...
try it out I dare you.
You have to take 1 step backwards (in practice) if you want to
Leap forward !!!

playing w/ less has always helped me. fewer distractions, and i get to know my molds better, and am therefore more confident before my shots. It's easy to get caught up in new/more discs, and it is for sure fun to try new ones, but it has worked for me to minimize, although you would not know it by my current rating.

as dumb as it sounds, my goal last year was to learn how to throw a straight disc flat and straight...i used to try to throw everything on a hyzerflip and just picked up a lot of bad habits all around...this year's goal is reduce the number of molds in my bag. it's definitely hard to resist the urge to buy one of everything, throw it for a bit, trying to find that one magical disc that will always end up where you want it. throughout this whole process though, i'm rediscovering my love for the teebird again.

Revo Pro Bag
172 5x JK Valkyrie - Long anhyzers with no return fade and roller
174 4x JK Valkyrie - Staraight with no fade or long anhyzer with some fade
170 SOLF - Utility Driver. Controlled Distance. Straight to hyzers.
174 Z Surge - Max D in no wind/light wind or tailwind
175 Star TeeRex - Beat up - Controlled distance in wind and max D in L-R and R-L
175 Star TeeRex - Excellent - Headwinds and extreme wind
175 Pro Leopard - Flat dead straight. tunnel shots
175 Star Leopard - gentle anhyzers and short rollers
171 DX Roc - currently beating up to replace the one i cracked - will be used for turnover
174 11x KC Pro Roc - straight. holds any line under any power.
172 06 Celtic SB Roc - driving mid. straight with gentle fade. loves the basket.
178 06 Baby Star Roc - Driving mid, straight with some fade. windy days.
166 DX Rhyno - approach/trick. super straight with a consistent sharp fade to the ground. drives under 200'
175 RW-Pro Aviar - putts. love the feel and smell.
Possibles:
180 12x KC Pro / 08 Champ Roc / 170 DX Gator - need overstable mid. 1 of these 3 will be used
170 ESP Nuke - testing out as Max D. not sure if i can achieve consistency with the super wide rim. but i thought that at first with the TeeRex and its the most consistent driver in the bag.
I have alot of confidence in this bag and i always have every shot i need in it. i never walk up to a situation and question what disc to use. the surge is a new addition and i love how much easy distance is in the disc. cant wait for the snow to melt and tournament season to come. i think my mental game has vastly improved, i learned how to play slow and not get agitated when iced!!!!!!

you will if you keep playing with less. it will zone in your consistancy and your game will keep improving. i think there is a balance of having enough disc to make all shots, but not too many to mess up in disc selections, less is better.

Yes but this is Disc wisdom beyond your years.... I agree with John Houck of playing w less. It makes for a great player, Look at Matt Orum and Coda Hatfield, they use very few disc and can beat most people.

"that a boy", the teebird is the way to go, and my best advice I ever recieved was to learn to throw strait and flat..and I did it with a teebird. a teebird is the base of all my shots, then I learn all other shots from there , I promise this...if you zone in your flat and strait release with a teebird then all other aspects of your game will improve....It reallt works.

it is very humble and sometimes frustrating to take a step back and take the time to practice on your game. When you know u can go to your local course and rip up a great score...but you choose to throw all mids and work on that shot, or throw a couple drivers and learn the flat release. its tough to do, Guys on the course are looking at you like..."man he cant throw that far", when your throwing nothing but putters. But after 2 months of me just throwing Mid-ranges at my 2 local courses, i have added at least 30 feet to my drives, my release has zoned in and Im very confident in my release, and also my overall confidence in my shots are better. all the top pros I meet say they get better cause they are willing to take the step back and time to practice the shots...

pro rhyno, i feel like i can throw one with the same amount of power as a midrange or driver with confidence. it doesn't seem like it's rim is as deep as other putters, to me anyhow. I used to putt with xd's back in the day, I've been wanting to track down a star xd and use it off of the tee.

whats the Best putter in your opinion to throw up shots, and short drives, that you can use to putt with and also throw when it gets alittle windy???
Aviar Driver - good smooth putter. strong sharp finish so make sure to give it enough power so it hits the basket going straight.
Wizard (a stiff plastic) -super amount of glide and goes far. personally i didnt like it for putting. if i didnt hit the basket id go sailing past. i found myself laying up more often with the wizard more than any other putter ive tried.
Challenger -unlike the two above the challenger doesnt have as much glide. but it loves!!!! the chains. i wish they still made'em in Elite X and a std ESP run.
Rhyno -lt weight maintains the wind resistence and they fly much straighter imo...i use my 167g Dx Rhyno in high wind and it still flies straight and true.
theres almost always some kind of wind blowing thru around here. more than the putter i find a nice smooth slight hyzer putts will always cut thru the wind. i still use my PnA in 30+ winds and only using a rhyno for headwind putts at those winds.

Star XDs are sweet off the tee they beat to straight and they stay that way for a long time.
I like driving with my 10X Aviar you can lay into it hard.
Vibrams VP and Ridge are another good driving putter.
Also Ryhnos i use to use them and champs I could put out to close to 300ft

I totally agree. I liked the Wizard. I enjoy driving with it, it is fast and overstable, But if I miss it went long, where my aviars only go about 15-20ft past and i can make the come back, thats why i dont putt with wizard. but i love to putt with the DX BB AViar Drvr, i love this putter, its great glide, good stability and loves the chains. best putter I have found yet, when it gest windy i putt Jk-Aviar X ....but i have noticed that if its windy enough to effect a putter i can zing my mako in for a solid wind putt.

when u say aviar driver are u using star, pro what plastic. Just asking cuase I Putt with the DX BB aviar Drvr and the whole reason is cause its still a BB but it finishes straiter than any other aviar, so I make more putts, and i dont have to putt so hard like i do with KC or Star BB

Mar 16 2010, 11:39 AM
if you want a putter that stays overstable when driving i love the Wizard. It is very overstable , good glide and far. i can throw this about as far as my rocs and other mids. but it will always finish left, so u need to compliment it with a strait flyer.

Drivers:
1-CE Leopard
3-CFR Destroyers (1 new, 1 used, 1 light for long annys)
1-Star Max (crazy wind dont stop me)
1-Ch Monster for all other Hyzers and Side arms, and Thumbers.
3-Star Teebirds-(1-new,1-used, 1 light for loooong annys and control)
1-ESp Surge (great long pancake shots, and good roller for me)
Mids:
1-Star Mako (WOW) great disc, controlled anny, loooong strait, strait finish WOW
2-Cryztal Buzzz's (1-new overstable, 1-used dead strait, or any way you point it)
1 CE Warrior (Gateway's amazing faster, better Drone in champ plastic) this disc is the overstable brother of the Buzz, great compliment to the Buzz.
1-Champ Gator.....Oh Yeah...what Wind. the wind is scared of this disc..I can upshot with accuracy in a Hurricane.
1-champion Viper- If you need to skip or get out of trouble, this is a great disc.I can skip this around the block if I need to.
Putter:
1-DX BB Aviar Driver (wow best putter I have ever put my hands on, and Ive atleast tried them all. just enough stability and wonderful glide. It loves to find the Chains. My putting has increased with this putter and has given me more confidence to go for bigger putts. If i miss, im only 15-20 past....
2-JK-Aviar-X--all the Putter driving work comes from this.(1-used for strait and no wind days, 1-brnd new for windy days, these are pretty overstable new.)
1-Med Magic-Great glide, long throwing putter, seems to be good at jump putting, loves the anny release. I can drive this putter anny for days, and It holds. also not to squirrelly in wind. likes to be thrown hard.
BAG: camo revolution bag w/ Quad Shox Straps., and a mountain climbing chalk bag D clipped to side for dry hands for those warm days coming. chalk works great for me when I need the snap.
I also vacuum seal a couple towels in a gallon zip lock bag just in case rain. and in other pocket i vacuum seal my gore tex rain shell and pants for a bad day. with vacuum sealed zip lock bag i still have room to store all my stuff for tournys. The bag is working out great.
