The second annual Midwest Masters Championship is now in the books. Players had great April weather both days starting with one round at Wakanda in Menomonee followed by one round at the 20-hole private Axldog Acres owned by the TD, Steve Kinde, in Boyceville on Saturday then again on Sunday morning. The event was capped with skins action at the 9-hole Lambs Creek / Pioneer Grill complex for the top 4 in MPO, MPM and MPG.
Kinde was able to secure excellent sponsorship for a B-tier event, acquiring $2000 in grant money from the Eau Claire Area Sports Commission. Several Wisconsin events have been supported by grants. TDs in other states should check into the options in their areas.
Dueling goatees as GM Rick Rentz receives winner's check from TD and Master Steve Kinde
Mike Thul, Kyle Pinkman and GM Rick Rentz, all from near St. Cloud, MN, had the hot hands in the first round at Wakanda shooting 49s unofficially rated 1015. Wisconsinites Scott Burtard and David School smoked the Axldog course in the afternoon with unofficial 1022 rounds. The biggest shocker was Brandon Day in Advanced who threw a mediocre 67 for a 906 round at Axldog on Saturday then follows that up with a course record 50 on Sunday morning rated 1053. That's almost a 150 point rating swing between rounds on the same course!
