I am pleased to announce some details as they stand for the next addition of the North Texas Series.

The first event is already out of the way, it was Veterans Park Open. I am personally very pleased to see the ADGA on a serious bounce back.

Upcoming events include:

Crowley on Saturday Dec 1. This will be a 40 hole PDGA C-tier 1 day event. The Ace Pot is in the neighborhood of $1200 before registration even starts for this event. The players meeting will be at 9 AM. Reg will be cut off at 8:30am. Daylight will be an issue at this event so please use Title Disc to pre-register.

Poison Ivy Open (if everyone can behave long enough for that course to not get pulled) Jan 5-6. It will be a 1 day C-tier. Rec and Advanced play on Saturday, with INT and all Open Divisions playing on Sunday. This will allow you to test the waters of the next division up (not Down) at this event. It will be a 42 hole event (2 rounds of 21). Players Meeting will be at 9am both days.

The Big Show
The Big Show at Cedar Hill will open the week again this year. Are you ready for this.....it will be the week after the Stupid Bowl. Feb 9-10 A 72 hole PDGA B-tier event.

Hockey Game on Monday night Feb 11. More details later.

Mid-Week Wednesday Feb 13 Course TBA

Z Boaz Open Feb 16-17. This will be a PDGA A Tier. I am working on formats that will include the course on the North Side of the tracks. However this is where this plan will succeed or fail, it will require everyone to be signed up on Friday or before. It will also require us to get under way at 8 am (not have a meeting at 8 am, start at 8am). Before you scream at both of these prospects it will allow all Open and Advanced players to play 2 rounds of the Original Z Boaz. Unfortunately it will also require all Rec and Intermediate players to play 2 rounds on the temp. This plan will also allow for the number of players that played this year with no ghost cards, but it will take a commitment from YOU as well.

The Z Boaz Format Skins Match will follow on Sunday Afternoon.

This is all that I have firmed up at this point. There will more events, the dates just haven't been confirmed yet.

They include:
A one Day event at Arcadia Park in Ft Worth
Paul Giles Memorial
A to Z Doubles
Rock Wall

And Maybe:
Match Play (single elimination two divisions Am or Pro)
Pecan Park Open
Waco

Many more details will follow.

Hey Mace -- Thanks for getting the schedule posted here! I'm looking forward to some great events this year. I was just curious if you have an estimate as far as when the C-Tier status of the Dec 1st Crowley tournament will be official.
Thanks,

The people running the pdga are idiots.

Why would you make another ratings division?

If you tell people they have to play int or adv how come there is not a point where you have to play open?

This sport is never going to go anywhere with 8+ divisions. The only ones you need are Int, Adv, Pro, and Masters.

There is. For ratings based events it's 970.

still doesnt change the fact that recreational and novice sound like the exact same thing, i think novice even sounds more advanced than recreational, what happened to the expert division? you wouldnt even need that if you just made everybody with a 970 or above play pro, not as a suggestion but mandatory.

I could not care less what you call the division I play in, I just don't want to play the short boxes. I want to play what the Open guys are playing.

Mace, will the North Texas Series be holding any "ratings based events" this season?

In answer to Giles, since you will only get one chance at The Mighty Z in the Rec and Int Divisions you will play Z Boaz from the long tee's.

It just makes no sence that you are forced to move up in each division except Adv. This just lets people like Coda and Matt Hall win 18 straight events when they should be playing open and cashing.

I mean there is only a $1250+ ace pot up for grabs, no reason to get signed up or anything.

Nothing to get excited about.

In fact never mind it is all off. I have better things to do that wait and wonder if you are going to come out and have some fun. We will just wait until PIO to run at that ace how's that!!

Wow! I don't get it.

There are less than 10 people preregistered for this ONE DAY, 40 hole, pdga C-TIER tournament on one of DFW's BEST disc golf courses, with a $1250.00 starting ace pot!!!!!

I picked up a little sarcasm and a lot of disappointment in Macey's post. Of course it is still on!

I am one of the people he mentioned that hasn't committed yet, but I've been jumping through hoops to make sure i'm there. Sadly, yesterday my wife informed me that my son's school parade is Saturday in the early evening. I don't know if i'm going to be able to jump through that hoop.

Consider yourself fortunate and lucky if you can attend the event, and understand the jealousy that other people have that would love to be there.

$1250 ace pot before entries even begin!!!!

Ok you talked me into it. I will take my chances that I may be wasting my time so you can have fun and win stuff.

The ace is on and we will be meeting at 9am to play some golf.

Doubles is at 3pm on Friday.

I don't want to come off wrong here, but here it goes. I have spent plenty of time in the last 10+ years being at your mercy. And being at your mercy has not worked out very well overall. You are fickle and not very nice an unfair amount of the time. So I have taken the steps to make sure that I am taken care of with you or without you.

If only a hand full of you are going to come out to an event why should I put in time, effort, and money if you might come out? If you are coming out then sign up now if you are capable, if not get there tomorrow afternoon, and if you have to push it to Saturday you better be there before 8:30 am. If you get there after that I will let that guy that wanted to cancel this poorly pre-registered event out of the van and turn him loose on you. :)

After a long conversation with Mace, the final results of the Open division has changed from:

Nolan
Mike
Miles
Joe and John
Santos
Pepper

to:

Nolan
Mike
Miles
Joe
Santos
John and Pepper

During the 1st round on hole #18 my drive skipped OB. Initially, i threw from where my lie went OB before a player from a different division was walking by and told us about the drop zone. So i went over to the drop zone and finished the hole from there. My card and i discussed what happened and we put several astericks on my scorecard as a reminder to discuss what happened with the TD so that the correct score was turned in. A couple of distractions later(phone call from crying wife, rushed for food, etc), none of us talked to the TD and my card was turned in with the incorrect score. So, two days later, i was stroked once for the "practice throw" and two more times for turning in an incorrect scorecard. (3 strokes total)

For more than 15 years i've played this game with the utmost integrity and as professional as i know to be. During that time I've also counted every throw, and every penalty that has come my way. I wanted to make sure that i continued to do so, which is why i called Mace and told him everything that happened after reading the ruling.

Cheers,
John

Cheers,
John

John, if you would have been listening when the course rules were explained, then there wouldn't be a question.

Listen hear LittleLongerBone, i heard you loud and clear, which means i was listening at the meeting. However, while on an unfamiliar course and someone else was carrying the cards at that moment, it might as well had been Hole #5. Besides that, usually #18 is the last hole you play when you start on hole #1. Regardless it's still my fault which is why i did the right thing and talked to Mace, albeit 2 days later. The real confusion came when Ron and Giggler approached me before the the 2nd round started and said that i was stroked for turning in the wrong score. So, i thought the penalty had already been taken care of.

I'm just glad that the right thing was done, the results are now correct, and i still have what i came to the course with; my integrity.

I think that EscapeGoat's avatar is more "inappropriate for a minor" than showing a golf disc with a picture of a hemp leaf, but I will leave that to the "m0n!+0r5" to decide, since that last time I happened to comment that I thought that they might have been a wee bit tight with a decision I received a reply that was a magnitude greater than my comment.

Time to bump this up. Time to make plans. It will not be long before PIO is upon us.

Happy Hollidays to All !!! :D

Remember that the ace pot for the event STARTS around $ 1,550! This event usually is very crowded and should have close to a $2,000 ace pot by the time everyone signs up.

See you there!

I can't stress this enough: Be sure you make note of which day(s) you're signing up for. If you're not current for 2008, be sure to include the $5 non-pdga fee with your registration. This sort of thing always slows things down for the PIO... let's help it run smoothly this year :)

The neighbor-hood rats could very well get the course pulled. The police are hearing complaints from nearby home owners about kids drinking, smoking, and cursing. The Wed night crowd isn't the problem but may pay the ultimate price of losing the course.

Pogis
Dec 20 2007, 03:20 AM
All it sums up to is a respect issue. With the course so close to homes, ones of the nice variety too, people need to have respect for others and the property around them. No body respects anyone these days its all me me me. Its sad that people that a few people who dont care ruin it for the many who do. And this may come as a shock and I am going to get blasted for it, but if these things are true then the people living there have every right to push to get the course pulled. And in all honesty I would side with them. They have the right bring up there kids and build a home in peace and quiet. Thats why people move to these more remote sub divisions. As much as I would hate to see this wonderful course go, it might be the best ting for the comunity. But it will be interestign to see what happens back there if the course is pulled. The cover of playing disc golf will be gone, and that may be enough to scare people away from doing "stuff" on the back half. All I am saying is the comunity should come first. I guess we will find out. :(

maceman
Dec 20 2007, 12:22 PM
There is no reason for you to get blasted for what you said.

If you can't do in your front yard you can't do it at a course, in a public park. It is not anyone's right to do illegal activities in a public place.

What a few see as their right will get them in trouble, there are some people out there that may not be whom they seam to be.....if you know what I mean.

More could be said but you know it already.

Happy Holidays!!

Pull out baskets #5 and #8 (Boom! Gone!)

Redirect: walk from #4 to #9 (not far)

walk from #9 to #7 (not far)

walk from #7 to #6 (not far, especially long to long)

walk from #6 to #10 (this is the only hitch, but not a big deal if you make a back door trail of about 60ft. Wouldn't have to pull one single tree and you wouldn't be criss crossing #7. You'd only have to aproach with caution IF a card is throwing from the long tee pad).

10, 11, and 12 as is... (I still think #12 should have a "long" basket 20ft. left of the "dead car," clasic!)

13 - 18 is fine, have never heard of any problems, other than hole #15 short to long being retarded! lol

A possible hole "make up" would be adding #2b. However short it would be, hey this is Bear Creek, comon! I realize the foot traffic on the trail is a problem, just a thought. Anyone have any ideas for two "make up" holes, just throw it out there? Perhaps left of #6? I know there was talk about that land at one time a few years ago.

Anyway, there's 16 holes that would work! Only the long tee on #6 would be near the neighborhood.

Durring the only sactioned event (that I am aware of) Mace usually adds 5 holes and the sleaves would still be there on 5 and 8 for the PIO. Meanwhile, the other 363 days of the year you'd still have a course in the ground, beats nothin' if you ask me...

WHAAAAT?

baldguy
Dec 20 2007, 04:13 PM
it took me a few minutes to figure out WTH you were talking about but once I pictured it all in my head, I think you're right. This would take 90% of the foot traffic away from the neighbors and probably limit their exposure to the unwelcome element of our sport. #4 (esp. in the long pin) is the only leftover issue.

It's sad that we can't really police our own courses. Maybe it's time to set a precedent of some sort that gives the course pro and/or the supporting club to "ticket" or otherwise discourage the bad element. Even those tournament players who may partake in some of the unwanted activities usually have the decency to do so where it won't be noticed by or affect anyone in the area. it's that other 10%... *sigh*

I dont see what you are talking about. All i can see, even when my eyes are closed, is the image in your avatar.

The City of Grapevine is doing everything they can in order to keep the course. They now require all event organizers to get a permit. A background check is done befor this permit is issued. They are trying to weed out (pun intended) some of the known problematic people that run weekend doubles events and minis of the sort. Even the Wed night tournament is now permitted. They also are requiring all vendors to get a sales permit. They dont want to pull the course, but they've done all they can do, the rest is up to the neighborhood kids. If they can behave, they'll have a place to play, if not, the next closest DG courses might start seeing some problems.

Why should those that pre-registered have to wait the extra 30min-90min delayed start for those that didn't prereg? Time is money after all.

or better offer registration for the tournament more than 2 weeks before and you wont have this problem, why not offer pre-registration for the entire series at 1 time- worst case scenario is that the tournament will fill a month before.just a suggestion,do what you want but that seems to work around here with COTO,Red Rock Show,etc.. usually filling at least 2 weeks before the tournament and everything seems to run on schedule because there are not too many day of sign-ups.

Weatherford and Crowley are the 2 closest. Both are 20 minutes away. You've played Weatherford, and probably have the same feeling as most...it just doesnt compliment the Almighty Z! Crowley, on the otherhand, would be pretty cool and is somewhat comparable to the Z.

I just don't like the fact that it is more the temp course open than Z Boaz. Especially when the temp is a pitch and putt and you have to do well there to have a chance of placing well.

okcacehole
Dec 29 2007, 07:01 PM
I'll have to agree with that..if you didn't play well last year on the temp, most likely you didn't compete overall..and the temp course was Lefty friendly..not a bad thing, but not the best thought out course,,

Z 4 rounds..Pro/ADV...

if you need to include the other divisions keep them at Vet or 2 weekends..

thoughts? ...just some ideas /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

won't change this year and no problem as everyone knows where they will play, but a tweaking couldn't hurt

There are several within a couple miles of the course. There's a Super 8 and a Holiday Inn Express close by if those would be okay. If you go to google maps, click search businesses and enter hotel, and put in Stone Creek Pkwy, Grapevine, Tx as the address, it will get you where you need to go.

As usual you are right Johnny. It will now cost you $10 to sign up the day of this event. So just in case this does not make any sense to you if you play on Saturday and somehow there is a spot left for you it will cost you and extra $10 to play.

Before you start asking, it is none of your business where that money goes. But since you are bound to ask, lets just say that it will go into the "Replace the Mace Man Van Fund".

If you wait that long you will be looking for something else to do this weekend anyway. I feel confident that it will fill before either day gets here.

titleDISC (http://www.titledisc.com/) is selling peace of mind at very affordable rates. It is cheaper than gas!! :D

If you have any problems with titleDISC whether it be site functionality or payment completion, please let me know and we'll get it taken care of. Nobody will miss out on registration simply because of technical difficulty... as long as you let me know.

(As he steps up on the soap box he says)

This is part of the reason our sport grows so little...NO COMMITMENT...you know as well as I Brian that DGers are some of the most non-commitment oriented people on the planet. As TD's we give and give and the folks that are players just want to show up whenever and be catered to and have the TD's tell them they are glad they showed up. They forget that without the TD's they would not have a tournament to just show up at.

I bothered Mace while he was hard at work today and said, "when is the PIO?, Cedar Hill? and Z-Boaz? They're not on the calendar yet and i need to concrete some plans/dates. "

I'm sure we'll see them on there soon.

As for the ace pot questions: The ace pot starts around $1550 and this event usually has well over 100 players between the 2 days so it should be over $2,000 by the time the fat lady sings. According to Mace it is already over half way full. So don't hesitate to sign up unless you want to contribute to the MaceMan Van fund. :DIncidentally, all aces split all weekend long. If an ADV or REC aces on Saturday they wont know how much they are taking home until the OPEN and INT finish on Sunday.

Step up or shut up! Run an event or don't throw stones at the people that are doing it for you.

There was a payout at Cedar Hill and there will be one again this year.

Contrary to popular belief some people have a better time when some of you stay home. And further more it doesn't mean anything to me one way or another if you come or stay home.

If you stay home the others that hit that ace will not have to split it with you. All aces split....from both days.... is that ok with you smarty?

The payout was horrible at Cedar Hill and for shooting 1020+ and beating a lot of great players and only losing to 2 of the best players in the worlds $185 seemed WEAK for 3rd in a 27 player B-tier and only players 5th or higher got $100. I really won't let that keep me from attending though since I like the courses and need to play a lot of B-tiers to qualify for a state rep spot.

I am doing the best I can with what I was given. I added money to Cedar Hill and Z Boaz each year. Your payout has absolutely nothing to do with the rating of your golf at the event. I plug the numbers into the TD Report and it tells me what to pay.

If you don't like a hobby that pays you something back than maybe you should join a bowling league where you pay every week and get bragging rights at the end. I would say pool or darts leagues but you aren't old enough for that yet. But when you are you will find that not only do you not get paid for those either, you pay each week to play and to consume whatever it is that you are consuming while you are there.

So getting something is not a rip off, it is having your cake and eating it too. If that is not good enough for any of you stay where you are now.

You are finally right about one thing, you have no clue. So you better just leave it at that. You don't pay attention at players meetings or awards. You are out playing or putting when explanations are given.

Hundreds of dollars less??? Do your own homework before you talk on what you have heard like it is fact.

Run an event and you will see.

Until then you can participate in the parking lot math lessons and come to the same conclusion of hundreds before you. And when the torches are lit you too can be a part of a witch hunt. If you are lucky you will be there when another TD is burned at the stake by a bunch of greedy vultures that are as uninformed as you are.

How much were the entries? I thought it was like $70 so a just used $60 as a safe bet and still the payout was $100 less. Also Zboaz has some of the lowest payout of almost any A-tier.

If you show up this year come see me when I don't have 23 people asking me questions and I will gladly show you and any other nay sayer the TD Reports that break it all down for you.

The facts are as follows: PIO 2007 paid out 101% of pro entry fee's, Cedar Hill 2007 paid out 124% of pro entry fee's. And the Z Boaz Open with out the skins match paid out 116% just on checks that were written. Then when you include the players packages, and trophies it comes up to 145%. Should I add the skins to that or do you want to do it yourself?

There are so many things to consider besides cash in and cash out. So if you doubt me come and see me and I will show you the reports.

Until then throw another log on the fire, surly you will find someone else to burn.....like your old sponsor. :D

Payout isn't the only thing I look at whe attending an event and the positives of Cedar Hill and Zboaz outweigh the payout. I go to those events to play with good players and try to do well but unless you are in the top 4 at Zboaz you won't get that much cash.

the common mistake when calculating payout (on your fingers, as mace said) is that people forget to account for things like players packs, trophies, charity donation, pdga fees, etc. Once you take those dollars out of the equation, you'll see the numbers Mace is talking about. I'm pretty sure he's posted them somewhere before (more than once, iirc) but it's been awhile. I know that when I read them back then, it all made sense.

c'mon out Matt and play. Oh, and about titleDISC / PayPal - you can sign up using any credit card you like, you don't have to have a paypal account. You can even pay with an e-check if you prefer, just please don't use that option inside of 4 days before the event :)

edit: I forgot to mention that the next couple months of Mace's events are listed on the main page of titledisc.com, if anyone was looking for event dates

That's why I just said it was $60 per player VS $70. BTW I'd gladly give back whatever players pack I received for another $10. Pros really don't need or want players packs. I can see $20 taken out for the Open Trophy since only 1st place gets it.

so, was the entry fee $70 for sure? I don't remember... All I can say for sure is that I've known Mace for awhile and I've played his events for even longer than that. There's nothing in his payout or elsewhere that would make me think he's paying out any less than what's appropriate.

Well if he is paying out what he says than that just speaks good things about the other events I have played because they must have payed out 150%. I played a few events where I got more cash for placing lower than 3rd.

Also I know Cale was hoping for about $500-$600 and got $370 for 1st.
