It drizzled of and on with one big lighting delay about 1 or so. Looks like the adv groups will have about1 round and 4 to 5 holes left tomo. Pros have 2 full rounds left.
I was on Nolans card. Skipped ace 14 from the long. everybody else thows a midrange and he skip aces with a Tee Rex...... It was sweet though!
I THINK the top 4 are like this.
Emac- 49
That Schultz guy- 50

Nolan- 54

It was a nutty Z-Boaz Open to say the very least. I hope we all realize some of sacrifices the Mace Men make to put on some fun-filled events for us all. You need to run an event to really know what I mean and I highly recommend it.
I had great people to play with all weekend and wanted to congratulate the up and comers who are welcome additions having taken that next STEP. This group is poised for great things- Miles, PT, Longerbone, Bo and Kinter!

I would like to further elaborate on this point the Yeti made.
It was the start of the last round E-mac, Nolan , Yeti, Miles , and Barry all got off to a solid start . Miles bombs one just short of Nolan and has a little wind issue on his upshot. Any golfer will tell you that a 3 on this hole is a good feeling . Miles left himself a very makeable 35-40 footer . He set's up his putt, and at the EXACT point of release, THE WORLDS LARGETS [censored] BAG drives by and honks his horn, with an obvious adverse affect . The young " natural " maintained composure , and finsihed out the hole with a very respectable 4 . I must applaud him for that , for it did not break his game nor spirits.
For your age ,composure like that is seldom seen. Bravo!

does this mean that we'll have too choose between crowley and arcadia/north park on saturdays? being that i'm exactly the same distance from both it's still an easy choice. that's all i'm gonna say about this as i'm sure there will be plenty of discussion.

Titledisc is not correct, at least not correct according to the scehdule I sent out earlier in the year.
The last weekend in April is Texas Women's and a particular effort was made to not have these two conflict this year as they had in year's past.
I also didn't want PPO and PGM on back to back weekends. The large crush of tournaments in late February and early May forced a lot of shuffling.
But As I have always said, I can only make recommendations about the schedule. TDs will always do what they want.

I agree about the unity V-man but you also have to remember that Bowling Green is in the middle of the US and draws players from all over. If you are a visual learner, draw a 5-7 hour drive circle around Bowling Green to see the markets it draws from and then do the same for Houston, Austin, or DFW. Huge difference!
Kev McCoy used to always say that if TX States (houston) was in the middle of the country, there would be a waiting list 200 people long.

Okay ladies and gentlemen, I have not heard much discussion on this so I thought I would push it some. The Paul Giles Memorial will be held this weekend in Athens, April 26-27. The plan had been for the Athens Club to step up and take it, but there have been some issues, so Maceman agreed to take it on again. You can sign up at www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com) and need to sign up before the weekend. If you do not plan on signing up on line, please remember there is a $10 late registeration fee.
Generally the format includes the existing 18 plus 6 more holes. If you have a spare basket, please bring it over. The Tyler Rose City Disc Club will be bringing some baskets, but we want to make sure we are covered.
This tounament is in honor of a great disc golfer that passed away seaveral years back. I never met him, but have heard great things about him. Please try and make this in honor of Paul Giles. The tournament is always a blast and should be a lot of fun again this year.

I had thought that Brian had planned on making it a C Tier, but I am guessing that since he took it over so late, he has not had the chance to raise any sponsorship money. Sooooo,,.... I guess we will be playing for each other's money instead of each others and sponsor money ;)
This is one of Brian's, North Texas series events and if it holds true to form, he will at least be bringing any ace money he might have.
I am making a mass call out.... if you have a basket you can bring, PLEASE BRING IT!!! The club will be coming over from Tyler, but as of right now we do not have enough baskets for the extra six holes. Please, Please, please bring baskets!

This will be a Non-Sanctioned North Texas Series event. It will have all the usual features, including at least $200 added to the Pro Purse, just no PDGA fee's.
It will be a 72 hole event, playing 2 24 hole rounds on Saturday, and 48 more holes to wrap things up on Sunday.
Pre-registration is available on www.titleDisc.com. (http://www.titleDisc.com.)

Not only is it the weekend of the TWC it is also the Glass Blown Open which at least 5 open players from DFW are going to.
When are we going to get our ducks in a line in Texas?
Seems like every weekend there are event conflicting with one another.
IMO we need to get rid of all C-Tiers and only have one B-Tier every other week. What is the point of having hundreds of small tournaments? I would much rather see 12-15 big tournaments in Texas a year.

The placement for this weekend falls almost exclusively on the last minute change from the Athens club handling the event to Maceman, please don't blame anyone. I was asked if I could run the event and I said "NO!", but that I would be more than happy to help. The Athen's crew had every intent of running the event. However, there were unforeseen occurances that made it impossible for them to run it. Maceman was asked to do it, after he had already made commitments. The regional coordinator tried to schedule it for the first weekend in May, but Brian already had other responsibilities. As I understand it, the options were to either run it this coming weekend or to not have it.
I plan on being more involved with it next year and may even be a playing TD with outside help, however the problem is trying to develop sponsorhip when you live 40 miles away. The Athens club simply is not strong enough to run it yet and I am involved with my own club. Maybe Athens will change next year. I am not responsible for it being this weekend and for East Texas, I am sorry it is causing conflict, however it is continuing for this year to keep the tradition alive.

I personally didn't even give the PPO a look this year because of what happened to me last year. I think that a lot of people had a bad taste in their mouth that was left over from last year's TD at the Pecan Park Open. I am not trying to take anything away from the guys that ran it this year, but to go down and get my best finish in a B-tier and not receive a payout doesn't help convince me to come back. I hated missing this event, especially since I had played it two years in a row. I will be back next year fo show!

Late fee on a non-sanctioned event?
It's not my call to make, but the late fee has nothing to do with sanctioning. It has to do with encouraging people to get their info in before the last possible minute so we can start on time more easily.
I have said in the past that I agree with the late fee and I stand by that. There are so many ways to get registered before the morning of the event... online, snail-mail, even in person at a previous North Texas event or at doubles the day before this event. Why would anyone want to create that last-minute hassle for themselves, the TD, or the rest of the players? I dunno... but if they do, I think $10 is fair.

just because there are cheap sanctioned tournaments does not mean that unsanctioned should be cheaper. Mace stuck with his normal 2-day prices. The PDGA fees being removed from the pool just ups the payout.

I was going to say something along those lines but didn't want to in case there's no upage.:DI know there's a lot of hidden costs in running an event, a lot more than the normal guy thinks. Add PDGA fees, insurance, and players packages and there goes your AM payout. Just go to have fun and see old friends. You'll get a lot more out of it that way. I sure do wish i could attend. If they were the same distance away and we could stay for free at either, we'd definitely go to TWC. That says a lot, especially considering that I'd rather caddy for Deidre at TWC than play an event myself.
Truth be told, there wasn't really a decision to make... If there wasn't a tournament in Athens this weekend, we wouldn't be able to play in a tournament at all. Okay friends and family, here is the skinny....
Doubles will be run flex start from 5 to 6. There is plenty of light so starting close to 6 should work fine and this gives the people driving any distances a chance to get in as well. Brian may start doubles earlier, but with his other commitments, this is a gauranteed time.
Registeration will be taken at the course starting Friday afternoon around 4 until probably around 8 and early Saturday morning. There has been a change.... there will not be a late fee charge.
Players meeting will be at 9:00 AM on Saturday morning.
IF YOU HAVE A BASKET PLEASE BRING IT!!! This year the Tyler Rose City Disc Club, cannot provide all the needed baskets and I am not sure of the state of the Athen's club baskets. So please bring one.
See everyone this weekend!!!

Brian will be taking registeration at the park. He will not be charging late registeration fees, but requests that if you are signing up late, please do so as early as possible. Doubles will be flex start running from 5 till 6. Brian will be driving over this afternoon and will probably start taking money for doubles as soon as he has completed setup.
Players meeting is AT 9AM on Saturday morning. We will be playing two rounds on Saturday and one on Sunday for a total of 72 holes.
One last note, please bring your basket. In years past the Tyler club has brought all their extra baskets, and we will bring as many as we can this year as well, but it is not quite as many as in years past. If you bring your basket and we don't use it, that will mean extra putting baskets. If you don't bring your basket and we are short, then we won't be playing 72 holes for the weekend.

I feel it is important for all parties involved, that at times like this, we unite, as a community, to put one person out there as the scape goat. Better one go down with the ship so that the rest of us can sleep well at night, happy with the thought that we were never part of the problem. Just everyone keep holding on to their victim status as I nominate My-Nero as the one to bear our cross. Any 2nd's out there? Can I get a witness brothers! All good things, (including your winning ways), eventually must come to an end. Mr. Covalt has entered into an "Unholy" union with his new and allegedly improved doubles partner, Dave "Arm of Thor" Kinter. As I am the type of person that looks for the best in all situations, it disturbs me to know that within my bossom, I wish for pain and aguish when it come to this pairing. I have not felt this way since I 1st laid eyes on everyone's favorite (excluding myself that is) disc craft acolyte.:cool::cool:

The days of one man gang TD's (and some staff) are over! The clubs of this state should run events to highlight their course/s. Each of us can be a resourse in someway!
"It looks like the DFW calendar is about to be WIDE OPEN. "
Maybe we can organize the schedule better next year.......allow a player to save money up to travel instead of every week events with no turnout.

TWC is a fine example of how a state can work together.
4 area TD's with many different clubs pitching in to make a state championship.
Now if the male players/organizers of this state would step back and learn a lesson from the ladies

Certified Official status is required to TD any events.

Maybe that is why the rest of the north texas series has been non sanct tournaments.
I don't think we should have more than one tournament a month in Texas. Being able to choose from three to four dif events to go to a week is killing the attendence.

3 trips to OKC for events along with Duncan already and those are close..

Murphy/Jones is in again
1 win, 1 bad, and 1 tie for first (lost in a playoff - you know how we do on those :) )

I think one of the big reasons with no turn out is that Mace is not a current member so the only persons talking the event up is the titledisc guy for obvious reasons.
hopefully the "obvious reasons" are that I love playing the PGM and have attended every year possible since I started playing. Trust me when I say that the $12 or so I made from online registrations on this event had nothing to do with it. Just like with Mace running tournaments, sometimes I make money, sometimes I don't. I don't run titleDISC for the money.
The main reason I've been trying to talk up these events is to help get the word out while Mace is held silent. I've even offered my official's card up to TD events that Mace does want to sanction while he sorts out the other issues. Remember, the PDGA wants more than just the scores before they post them to our histories. They want their money, too. And they want a LOT of it. I think if you add up all of the money Mace pays the PDGA every year to run these tournaments... plus the insurance money, the city park fees, etc... you'd be very surprised on just how much it really is. here's a hint: it's more than most of us make in a month. probably closer to six months. I think he said that he lost 7 grand on the Big Show alone. Being such a prolific TD is expensive.
Anyway, A-Z doubles *is* happening. As of right now I don't know about the sanctioning status, but honestly... for a doubles event all sanctioning does is cost money. The rounds aren't rated and points are *easy* to come by, so meh. If Mace wants to sanction it then cool. If not... that's cool with me too. May 10-11. It will be available on titleDISC for registration as soon as I get the prices from Mace. That should happen today.

much of the money you're talking about *is* taken from merch profits. There is a sanctioning fee to pay, insurance, not to mention what the cities charge for permits and vendor fees. the only part taken from the entry fees is the PDGA's per-player fee.
