Those of you who choose to make noise behind and in front of (rarely) the people that are doing all of this for and to you. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Are you willing and in a position to do it, and or do it better? If the person you are bashing goes away will you step up and take his place, and do things the "right way" or the "better way"? Just to make things clear in a chillaxing manner, if you play in the early pools you will be able to collect early if you NEED to go. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif But there is still some time that you will have to WAIT while the scores are checked and sorted.
I will stand on the soap box and say that I/We can turn scores around and do an awards ceremony and or payout as fast or faster than anyone else running events now.
That being said, the availability of all of the info, the printing of vouchers and checks, the signing of the checks, and overcoming any technical difficulties, has been complete at or near the end of the Z Boaz Skins match each year. Meaning that the awards could not have started more than 10 or 15 min earlier if we had not had a skins match for all the women that show and the top 4 open players. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Enough with the happy talk. This thread needs more controversy. Let's talk about the ultimate, heinous discourteous thing a person can do when one is out on the course. I know I am not the only one that has expierenced this in the past. When you are setting up to make that difficult putt or wow the crowd with what should be an awesome drive, (this probably has happened to KC more than most as many are trying to hold back his greatness), but it is rather annoying when you are just about to let loose the thunder, (or firebird, whatever your prefrence), someone behind you releases their own thunder in the form of a gaseous, nose penetrating, buttock clapper of a fart. Now, i understand that there are occasions when a toilet is not within reach and one, (except for me and Dave as we have perfect digestive systems), and the average person has no choice but to blow out their bottoms, but for those that are just being mean and trying to make Dave shank his shot, (you know who you are O.K. Tom and Hero to himself Hero, I've heard you both), there should be severe consequences. I recommend some type of banishment from the disc golf community, coupled with fines not to exceed the offenders annual income. Proceeds from fine collections of course would be donated to some charitable orginazation that would be designated by........Dave Covalt of course. Any other thoughts out there regarding this most important of issues?

I have seen the thumber king in person when I lived in NC. It is something to behold. The most amazing thing to me is not the distance he gets, but the accuracy. He can be laying in the middle of field and will throw a thumber that drops right down on the basket instead of throwing an approach. It would be sweet to have him play in the big show.

Don't worry Mace. They'll be back, they always come back. Let me give you an example of great comebacks. Dave Covalt, you konw him, loved by women the world over and hated by men due to this, well he was spending time with:
http://www.spacefiles.net/Images/Hot_Chicks/Christina_Applegate/images/Christina_Applegate_479.jpg
back when she was new to stardom. Well she let it go to her head and forgot that it was Dave that made her popular. Dave had to let her go so that she could see how cruel the world could be w/out him navigating her thru it. Needless to say, her carreer pretty much tanked after the split. She recently decided to reconcile with Dave, but alas, it was too late to get back on his A list. But being the guy he is, he decided to help her get back on her feet. Well, we know how the rest of the story played out. She has a top rated show on T.V. and Dave, well he was just being Dave. Moral: we all know that folks don't check the threads to see what pic of Adam Sandler might be posted, they come to see what great things Dave Covalt might be up to next, in the hopes that they to, might take a little bit of him away with them and incorporate not only his golf into their lives, but his humanity as well.

A longer tee is what's needed. Moving the basket around the corner would only encroach hole #6. Not everyone is as good as some of our Z-Boaz open players.

You could just eliminate the short pin on 5 and tuck the long position back about 30 - 40 feet and closer to the RR OB line. If you move back, very much, you will be getting very close to the tee on 6. The long pin on 5 is only about 100 feet short of that tee as it is now.
I'm gonna miss that branch :( :(

Jan 31 2008, 02:00 PM
For now I think we should just move tee back, however you need to be careful of stray approaches on 4 long. Long term change might be to eliminate hole 6 as it is now and combine 5-and 6 and bring back a version of old 6 which was a downhill hole adjacent to hole 6 as it is now. If you cleaned it up a bit you could have a nice little anny or hyzer that flirt w/ OB in behind basket. I do like hole 6 but you have to think about the whole course not just 1 hole.

A longer tee is what's needed. Moving the basket around the corner would only encroach hole #6. Not everyone is as good as some of our Z-Boaz open players.
BTW Chris, will we be seeing you at any of the Big Show events? You do know that they are not DD events right?
No I don't think I will be playing the Big Show this year.

I think a good fix would be to put the pin in the middle of the shule to the left. Clear it out a little and put it towards the back edge of the shule. You would have very few drives and upshots into 6 fairway and you would add a degree of difficulty. That tree in there has a low ceiling and wuold make for an awesome pin placement.

Feb 01 2008, 01:44 AM
I dunno, I think the really close OB line plays into that shot quite a bit considering the angle. I haven't played it without the branch though (I hated that stupid thing anyway :D) so I dunno how that changes the dynamics of the hole. I can say that I've seen more than a few Ams end up very near and sometimes in that left-hand shule with an errant tee shot on #4.
Pogis
Feb 01 2008, 01:59 AM
your right. BUT, I am saying we should put it towards the back side of the shule. This would place the pin 30 feet farther, and it would be in the tree quite a bit making it hard to get all the way in there. Go in early like you are saying and you are in trouble.

If that branch is not there then it is kinda hard to get tree directed OB. I saw that happen a bunch last year at the z-boaz open. Now these top pros will just be parking it every time. Turned a great hole into a krapy hole, and making a longer tee box is not a good fix IMO.
my_hero
Feb 01 2008, 01:38 PM
If you want to make it less "crappy" you're probably going to have to go a little longer in each direction. Push the teepad back 30 feet and push the pin back 30'.....i like both ideas of the basket being placed in the shule on the left, or closer to the OB line on the right.

I think it's going to stay where it is for the Z-Boaz open. Mace said there have been plans for another sleeve on that hole for awhile and losing this obstacle will probably accelerate those plans. The problem is that the Z-Boaz Open is only 2 weeks away and there is a LOT happening between now and then. The problem will get resolved. for now, enjoy the 1/4- to 1/2-stroke less difficulty :)

You would think that since the forecast looks great and these events are held on some of the best courses we have to offer in the DFW Area they would be full. But since this is some kind of exception to the rule I guess we will just wait and see.
I have two announcements for you.
The first is The Mid-week Event has been moved to Arcadia Park. I hope that this is tempting enough that many of you take the day off and come out for a great disc golf experience.
The second is this. Due to two big factors it has been increasingly difficult to get people to GIVE me MONEY to GIVE to the players of these events. Those two factors are the crumbling economy, and our widespread inability to support the people that support us.
I want to take a moment to point out just how retarded this entire concept is. What other business in the world would it be acceptable for customers, that the business man makes nearly no money from, be bold enough to request and even demand that the businessman A go out and beg other businessmen B to give them money to give to people they have never seen or heard of before. Let alone think that those customers would be gracious enough to go and do a little business with that businessman B.....because after all that money that the business gave was advertising money, used to make more business for himself not to make some disc golfer happy.
Any way here is the solution. I am going to start selling the very players that will see some benefit's from the added money. You are probably saying WHAT? Thats right I am going to start selling top disc golfers to raise money for these events.
Some time in the next 2 days I will get this started on Ebay by selling Nolan Grider for one practice round of golf. I will set this up on a 5 or 7 day auction and the top bidder will buy the opportunity to play a practice round with Nolan Grider. There will be other players available on a volunteer basis. SO step up and let me know you are available.
As much as possible I would like to have the round take place in and around the time frame of the event. If that is not possible it is entirely up to the purchaser to make it happen, meaning they need to go to the player and make other arrangements.
The details will be worked out on this over the next few days, but here are some basic things to consider.
This is a fund raiser so please be generous. I will start the bid low, but this should be worth at least $50 if not more. If the price happens to reach or exceed $100 the player gets $10 off his or her entry fee for every increment of $100. There will be second chance offers available for other rounds if that fits into the pro's schedule.
It will be the responsibility of the purchaser to go to the pro, or bring the pro to them. Meaning if you live in a different part of the country and you want to participate you have to take care of all of your expenses associated with the trip, or if for some reason you choose to you can pay to have the pro come to you if they agree to that.
You will receive one round of play including warm up time and cool down time before and after the round.
This is a big can of worms that will have a ton of questions associated with it. But in the end I think this will facilitate what is seen as a need, and it will be facilitated by the people that will receive the benefit's from the fund raising.

That is why he will make a rare, public appearance on 2/9-10. That way all in attendance can have the chance to see greatness in action. I, as do many others, (Teague,Maiuro,The brothers Grider, and rumor has it Stokely and Schultz). believe that is why he is the people's champion:

Miles, I just realized you had some off color comment about "blow" and you use an avatar that was inspired by Dave Covalt. You sir, in the words of Wafflehouse Teague, a wanna be.
It was not an off color comment. But I guess I should have known better that you and Mr.C would take it as one. My mistake. :D

That's quite alright sir. Dave was not so taken aback by the "blow" thing, but he is looking forward to the day when you start using the Avatar that is most descriptive of where your skills were derived:

I'm taking you down at some point too this year Scooter. It may take a few tries, but I'm going to do it. Hopefully I get it done early in the year so at the end of the season I don't have to start following you around the country from South Dakota just to get you.
I think I just made that one of my goals for '08. Beat Matt Hall at least once in any event. Yep, sounds like a good one.

It is time for all you stay a-wayers to get out your fingers and toes and we will do some math. I am going to do this for you in public so that you talk about what happened somewhere you weren't you will at least have you facts in order.
This is exactly as I posted it at the course this weekend.
Please Be Aware the following fee's were deducted from your divisions prize pool
All Divisions
$3 PDGA Fee's
$2 to Ceda2 EDGE
$2 to the Food Bank
$3 to North Texas Series Bonus Fund
Those amounts are per person.
$10 per division for Trophies.
All Am Divisions, $12 was deducted per player for your players package.
Approximately $14.70 per person was added to all pro divisions equaling to $500 added cash.
SO please review the facts before you throw another log on the witch hunt fire. If you think that any of this is not fair, and that is why you stayed away that is unfortunate for you, but staying away for these reasons is....
The truth of the matter is that these events are very expensive to operate, and if we overlook anything then we spend several months trying to recover from it, and I can't live like that any longer. It is going to work on the front end as much as possible or I will no longer do it. This is not meant in the form of a threat, just letting you all know what to expect.
Again I would like to apologize for saying too much at the players meeting on Saturday. We both love you all, except for Charles Covalt.

Thanks to MaceMan Inc, The City of Cedar Hill, The Q's and Steele's for lunch and a place to sit, LammyHammy, and all of the traveling players who came to the event.
Best part of the event for me was seeing some long time friends faces that i haven't seen in my 14 month PDGA absence.
Best laugh i had was when Jay YETI Reading and 2 casuals exchanged words. We had 2 casuals and a dog try to jump in between the 3rd card and the 2nd card. Jay nicely asked the 2 guys to wait on us, and the leader card, b/c we were in a PDGA tournament and we shouldn't have casuals playing in the middle of our division. Jay went on to say that there is a big gap right after the leader card that if they were really going to play while the tournament was going on that's where they need to play. The skinniest of the 2 stood up to Jay and said "I'm playing right here! Do you know that i drove from North Dallas (15 miles) to play out here today?"
Jay quickly jumped up and said "Do you know where i drove from? I drove from IOWA to play this event!" :D:D:p
The casual was at a loss for words. Once we told them that the park was permitted, and that they really could be asked to leave, they backed off and waited for us and the leader card. :D

good thing I posted above for you.
One more thing to clarify. The PDGA TD Report figures the payout automatically. So when I deduct all of those fee's, including the players package that is what the payout comes down to. All of those fee's have to be paid, and players packages also have to be paid for as well. You want it, you have to pay for it just like in real life.

You gotta tell the rest, when the guy told Jay he was going to play here and something to the effect that you can't stop me. Jay, little ol Jay, stood at the end of the tee pad and said only through me!!
Actually we can't technically tell anyone you can't play. I always encourage them to go to another course first, and find the gap second. But the thing that amazes me most is that many get a little nasty at the suggestion that they can't play. l even had one guy tell me "oh well we will just zip through really quick, we won't be in anyone's way". This guy played with his wife, under 4 yr old, his mom, and his dad!! The only thing they were doing quick was throwing more shots.

and this doesn't even have the ace pot deducted. I think with all the side charities and series event $ entry fees may be going up.. :o and still not sure what the $3 for the pdga gets you other than a rating and a magazine

I was telling the FUNNY part of the story, not the holy crap are we about to throw down part of the story.
I still can't believe this beanpole of a human stood up to YETI! Through my eyes it appears Jay is still the same size he was when he was blocking for KURT WARNER at Northern Iowa in college!

I would have loved to see Jay floss with that guy.
We had a group of casuals infront of us before the 2nd day's 2nd round started, and they were acting drunk and snotty (with their kids around). One of the doofuses insisted on shaking hands, (HI I'M SCOUT!) and thanked us for letting them play. So I said my pleasure, have fun. As they walked off his buddy berated him for acting like an [censored], so that was cool.
AWESOME WEATHER! I had a great time, and shot some **** good golf as far as I'm concerned. The course looked and played wonderfully. Z is my home course, but Cedar Hill is my favorite.
