Here are the four highest rated rounds on Winthrop Gold which are the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th best all-time for courses in this SSA range (66+). KC has the second best on Vista Del Camino at the 2006 Memorial with another 1078. It will probably take a 56 to top 1080 on this layout but we'll have to see how the SSA comes in.

Sure are a lot low player ratings in the field; 890's, 900's, 910's, 920's, 930's, etc. It would be nice to see a ratings based tournament of this caliber. Maybe that's where the Player's Cup is headed. It's ratings based this year, and hopefully from now on.

That 63 from Schweb was very impressive. He didn't deuce one, had a bogey and a double within the first 4 holes but recovered to fire even par on the front nine. He then went on to rip the tougher back nine a new one carding 5 birds with no blemishes. Very Nice Start!

Don't want to really get into the PC on the USDGC thread but this year, and hopefully from now on, the PC is inviting players in batches based on their player rating. Still only 2 divisions though, men and women.

Looks like the tournament is open to anyone now rated >= 915 for pro men, and >= 850 for women.(instead of the qualifying they had previously), but the earliest date you can enter is based on your rating. There's still only 2 divisions to my knowledge.

so how does one get a score of 26 on Hole #17? that was recorded by Marty Hapner.
is this poor design or a result of poor decision-making? if one chooses to play safe is it still possible that one can score a 26, or does this happen because he chose to continually attempt the risky shot over and over, not willing to concede and play a safer shot?
that puts a damper on your round.

the bogey doesnt matter...its only OB and ending the round underpar (the idea is to NOT GET OB... i think the overall underpar idea is that someone could play it uber safe and shoot a 80 and take the bounty otherwise)

There's nothing in our PDGA DISCussion Board rules against using the quote feature to reply to a post, and changing the content of the quoted material. As an example, note that I added "and I wear pink underwear!" to my quote of your post. There's nothing in our Rules that forbids that, nor is posting the contents of a Private Message.
Additionally, moderators don't "police this msg board from people doing things like that." We only respond to user complaints - when a message board user presses the 'Notify Moderator' button to report a post for Rules violations.

Anyone know how they're breaking ties for tee times? I know Rod was looking forward to getting to play with Mike tomorrow, but Rod got bumped to top of the 2nd card. Granted yes, one of those 4 had to get bumped, just wondering how it was chosen. I thought it was rating, but then the other ties aren't consistent with that.

Looks like pairing ranking is based on the order the scores came in with the last person to score a number getting higher ranking than first person in with that score. This would be the oppposite of ball golf (if it's true) which gives the first player who shot a score the higher ranking for pairings on the weekend.

Curiosity: How tall are those surrounding trees on 4? Just curious if the following sequence sounds like a good/legit strat on it: turning roc/mid shot, grenade to the basket area.
I don't see how, even with the OB, that hole is a Par 4? It looks like one of those 3.5s that one thread is on about... getting a 2 is **** tough (I think only Bennett did it last year?) but getting a 4 feels like a total flub.

Christian Dietrich, Dan Sisk, Hans Tegebach and Scott Marting took the disc golf "test" yesterday and did very well. They just didn't know that there was a lawn-dart "question" near the end that counted 50% of their grade.

Thanks, partner. I appreciate the invite, but, if you're talking about Sunday, I'll be a little too busy for a 8hr roundtrip drive. If I drive that far I'd rather play Renny or Hornets instead.
I'd like to reciprocate in kind and invite you up to my place for a round anytime. Winston-Salem isn't that far from here. In fact, there's a new course going in in Rocky Mount, VA very soon that won't be too far from y'all or the High Point folks. That course is going to be unreal and it's in a huge, secluded park with an airplane hanger-size shelter.

On the course map it looks relatively painless, but if you open up the caddybook and virtually flip to page 7, you'll see it's another Tin Cup scenario like 17.
Even with that in mind, seems to me only a stubborn player or hurricane could cause a player to throw a 20 on the hole.

Could be a provisional, in which case the score would not be determined until the end of the round when it is taken up with the TD. Not sure, but that's my guess. Then again provisionals on 2 and 3 don't make much sense, unless there was a question on where the player was last IB.

About 10 being an "island" green..Well, 17 with the bales and the water..ok I get it. I walked with 3 different groups on 10 and in each group there was at least one OB and when informed that it was an "island green" rule honest to god, no one believed it. Each time we had to verify it with the caddy book. No water, no hay bales. The pin in-fact is in a low lying area. I guess given that, one might think of it as the first "anti-island" green.
Now I really try to avoid being one to criticise because I know the great deal of thought and work put into designing the course. I'll grant that. In this case, though, I'd say given the gut-reaction of most players and the look and feel of the hole, making 10 an island green is sort of superfluous. Unlike 17 which is sort of exciting, this one just comes across as irritating.

The reason its an Island green is because if it was not it would become a much easier hole.........The 3 on 10 is much more difficult to score knowing you HAVE to say on the green of your pretty much re throwing from your previous lie.........It makes people swing the hyzer a little wider on the right side so they can keep it in bounds. If it wasnt an island green the worst score you could take on it if your a decent player is a 5.........Drive.......OB second shot.............missed putt.........very short putt for 5...........But with the green being an Island you can take higher numbers and it also makes 3 a GREAT score and 4 a good score.
Just my 2 cents

They said on the radio that Christian's son became sick at the child care area. He left the group to check on his son and missed hole 2 &3. After much discussion, they ruled that he would get par+4 for those two holes since this scenario wasn't directly covered by the rules.

That should put a smile on your face Chuck!
The average round rating should always be the average rating of all players, considering round ratings are based on a player's rating and what they shot. If I'm not mistaken, the average round rating HAS to be the average rating of all players playing (barring any *fixes* like they had for ams at one point).

That's true. However, the catch is that only propagators are used in the calculation and you can't tell who they are at most tournaments. However at USDGC, it would be unusual to have more than one or two who were not props. Remember that rounds more than 60 points below a player's rating are also not used. But even if you miss one here or there, a single player's score with 168 at USDGC impacts the overall SSA only 1 in 168 and most players on average shoot closer to their rating on higher SSA courses.

Yesterday, there were 27 bogies on hole seventeen. As well as 27 doubles. And 27 triples (or worse)! Weird...
(There were 29 birdies, 58 pars, and no eagles or better.)

Radio's been on for a bit.
hey Kevin and the rest of the doTT guys, can you use the "dot notes" section to note what each player actually took on the hole? It's kinda difficult to count the bounces on some holes.

Maybe it's already been said, but I just saw that Lundmark birdied 1-8!! Eight brown boxes in a row on the online scoring! As well as 9 out the first 10. -9 after 10 holes. Scorching!
