Great event Mace and great Format - that was definately some of the most fun tourney golf I have played in a long time. I hope to see 50-60 players out there next year!
Getting Dan to show up was great and losing in a playoff to him still made for a great day.
Mace - I'll get that chair from you at Crawford or A-Z - no big rush.
I hope you enjoy that Mini Brian L. If it weren't for you we wouldn't be playing those 2 courses and I thank you for all the hard work you have done out there.
Ace pot rolled over so it will start 100+ at Crawford.
Send me the pictures of Todd's chair if you would - we need to torture him more :D You can send them to:

You can go a verity of ways, here is what the Course Directory offers. (http://www.pdga.com/course/courses_by_city.php?id=2294)
For those of you coming from the South West part of DFW you can go east on I-20 to 175 North to St Augustine Rd North. Turn Left on Old Seagoville Road, it dead ends into the park. The parking is at the south end of the Soccer Fields.
gnduke
Apr 12 2007, 12:34 PM
You can exit I-20 directly to St-Augustine Rd (exit 477) which becomes Prairie Creek and runs beside the park after it crosses CF Hawn FWY(US 175).
The parking lot is on the left after the woods and before the soccer fields, you will need to u-turn back to the parking lot.

Good shootin Phillip. His first time to play advanced in a sanctioned event and won. He also beat all of the open players. Way to go!!!!!!!!!!
That was a rather silly day......... I have only been to one other event where the low scores for the weekend were held by an advanced player , remember that weekend Brice?

What's the problem? The 981 golfer has only cashed in the pro ranks for 6 consecutive years! :DIt's the PDGA's fault for allowing it, Joe just played by their rules.

In case you weren't there here are some details that you may be wondering about.
First, Gilbert Casas and Johny Hicks won the Adv division in a playoff with Murphy and Jones.
The 3rd round was team score, meaning that if you had a 3 and you partner had a 2 your team score was 5. That makes the par 108.

for the sake of saving much arguing and confusion, please either fully mark the OB on #17 with rope (you'll need probably 600'+ of it) or at least spray paint the trees and stakes that mark it. even after playing a dozen or more rounds out there we still have confusion over that area, and there will be many people that have never played it before.

If Frank Dorsett is going to play, you'd better mark it with PING STRING :D
Funny you should bring that up, Mr. Cox. I was just talking to Reddman about that yesterday... #17 is going to cause tons of problems if it's not roped off.

on the rockwall course thread, john houck said something along the lines of "the OB on #17 will be marked with rope for ALL tournaments here"
That course should have some tournament mando's as well .
For example : Hole 3 ( my new favorite hole ) from the Blue. That last tree by 10's basket should be mando left, to prevent errant shots decapitating players on hole 9's tee. Very dangerous in that little area...

here is mr. houck's response about that OB on #17 from the courses thread. i misquoted him somewhat so here is what he had to say about it:
begin quote:
Brian, here's the easy answer. Along the right side of the fairway are recently-planted trees with big mulch rings at the base. Other than one tree that's way out there, they define the OB.
Fine print: The tree that's farthest from the tee is in-bounds. Also, there's a stake where the parks dept. will be planting a new tree -- that brings the OB closer to the pin. They also plan to install stakes next to all the OB trees -- obviously that hasn't happened yet. For tournaments, I would definitely put up string.
Hope that was easy enough. That's a big, open, not-so-exciting area out there. I've never been a fan of artificial OB, especially on a permanent course, but this seemed like the best answer. I hope it works well.
end quote
The long and the short of it is ...
There will need to be clarification beyond " let the card decide " for any events , sanctioned or not .
Personally, I dont think you will see many players O.B. on that hole . The Blue tee, all you do is pump a big anny out there to set up your next big anny... After that , make an up shot to the basket and try and sink that 4 putt....

if you're playing the OB correctly, what you just said would put most people OB. from the blue tee i think it's over 400ft to clear the OB, isn't it? the OB doesnt just follow the trees, it goes out into the middle of the field toward the basket (there is a stake out there where a new tree will be planted...the one houck mentions....it's hard to find but it's out there). the OB line basically runs from the blue tee to the red tee then out into the open field where the stake is then towards the basket. the OB line comes within about 40-50ft of the basket...it's a tight shot.
personally i think it either needs to be fully marked with rope or it should just not be played OB, or maybe a couple of volunteers could be stationed out there to ensure consistency with the OB play.

I think your tee shot and mine will differ greatly. My tee shot usually lands behind or to the left of the red tee. Play another anny around the ob like you would on the red tee. Very simple . Perhaps there is something lost in translation. But I do agree. we will need some sort of clarification on this subject !

May 14 2007, 03:54 PM
yes, our tee shots vary greatly...i usually try to lay up just short of the red tee, just inside the OB line and then go across. i've birdied it from the blue and eagled it from the red. i've also taken a double circle 9 on it from the blue as well, so that's why it needs consistency and enforcement across all cards...the scores could vary wildy if there are different interpretations of the OB from card to card.

If you look at the tee sign located at the Red Box (where most of us throw to when throwing from the blue) you'll see that an OB line continues down 3/4 of fairway on the right side. Silly me, a pic is worth 1000 words..... This is how we interpreted the signage.

It is still 2 anny's and an up shot. I like the design of that hole , but regardless of the OB line , it is not that hard. Now if I were left handed , that hole would suck...
Never thought I would say that a long anheyzer hole would play to the righty's advantage, but this hole does ....
If they marked off an OB line on the left side of the fairway... Different story...

You guys did a great job of hanging in there. Chuck and I thought we had a great chance of sneaking in the back door and taking 1st before going into the 4th round (3 strokes out of first), but alas(7 strokes out of $$$). What a time for a flash rain storm eh? Right on the worst shot part of our round! And that it was, indeed. Hello all. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but i thought it'd at least be a good place to start. I'm going to be moving to san antonio in July and was just curious if there were going to be more tournaments in tx than are already on the pdga tour. just didn't seem like as many as i was expecting sense i've heard that tx is a huge disc golf state.

I know some trees were marked for removal already... I'd venture a guess that the recent storms may have injured some other trees, necessitating their removal. Plus there are always those weak-arse, underhanded idiots that will sneak out in the middle of the night to "improve" a course to their liking. Lake Park in Lewisville was a victim of that sort of vandalism a few years ago, but the Old Man turned #5 and #9 into much better holes by moving the pins to more challenging locations. If Rockwall gets jacked with in the same way... maybe houck can get out there to assess the damage and relocate pins where necessary.
maceman
May 18 2007, 12:35 PM
I don't think they will be mowing unfortunately, I talked with the parks gut and he is not happy at all about the tree removal, it was not authorized. He was telling me about how short handed they are so I don't expect any moving. However it is looking like we will have a nice day, and we do have plenty of daylight this time of year so if it takes a little longer than normal to get it in we will still be ok.
I realize this is on a short turnaround and there are many people talking about playing this event that haven't signed up yet. Please don't show up at 9am to sign up.

Mace's player's pack is usually a custom t-shirt and/or a voucher but I don't know if Brian had time to get t-shirts done on such short notice. I can say though that I've never been disappointed with his players packs. He carts around a small fortune in disc golf merch and the selection is always good.

I have played 20 some odd tournys over the past year and mace always has the best stock of disc merch. Don't know his methods but I applaud his ability to stock a huge variety.

I'll be there, so that makes two of us. :D
The Brazos de Dios (Arms of God) is very full and even more intimidating than usual. Bring your "A" game and a few extra discs to sacrifice to the river.

all I know is someone better be there with boxes full of trash discs like the past. a little cash to grab a disc and TRY and throw across the river... best "added" contest of any tourny.
While we are attempting to get our discs to the other side... I recall a young girl, who shall remain nameless, making most of the am field feel inadequate about throwing drives. Of course, Nolan steps up and puts a few above the tree line on the otherside...
all boils down to... waco is a fun crowd.

Last year I had a ton of trash discs to throw. This year I don't, so everyone bring your own. the river is way up for now. Holes 5, 6 and 7 on the Beast are in or under water. I am guessing they will be playable by the weekend.

Maybe I missed it, but has anything been posted with check in, players meeting, and 1st round times?
baldguy
Jun 04 2007, 03:31 PM
no... you didn't miss it. I can venture an educated guess on that, though: if you haven't played a North Texas Series event before, you'll need to check in and sign a waiver. If you have, you should only need to let mace know you're in attendance. I'd take care of this before 8:30 or so. Players meeting is usually 9:00 or 9:30, 1st round starting after the players meeting.
keep in mind that this is just an educated guess. Mace is the man who decides how that stuff goes... but IMO if you pre-register online and are at the course by about 8:00am, you've got nothing to worry about.

Sorry for the delay on this info. Here is the list as it stands as of 6pm Tuesday.
Friday Registration and Tournament HQ will be at the Red Wood Shelter near 16 tee on The Original.
If there are any spots left on Saturday you will need to be signed up no later than 9am. If you know you are going to play this event you should sign up right now here, and not have to wonder if there will be any spots when you get there.
The meeting will start at 9:30am at the Red Wood Shelter for all divisions.
Doubles will be pick your partner. Flex start between 4pm and 6pm. If I am there before that you will be able to start before that. Any division with 3 or more teams will play. All am teams $20 and all pro teams $30. Sign up at the Red Wood Shelter near 16 tee on the Original.
There will be a few changes due to the abundance of water on the Beast. According to the Parks Department the release of water is supposed to be constant and consistent through out the week. That means that it is very likely that some changes will need to be made on The Beast. Those decisions and changes will be made on Friday.

By the way, I have at least $500 to add to the pro divisions. :)

Hello Everyone,
I would like to remind everyone that The North Texas Series Final for 2007 is right around the corner. It will take place on Saturday September 8 at Z Boaz Park in Ft Worth.
You do not have to be pre-qualified to play this event!!
It is open to everyone. If you have played in 5 or more events your entry fee will be a total of $9 for this event!! If you have not played in 5 of the events you just pay the regular entry fee and you can be a part of the skins action. There is a list of players that are qualified for the super low entry fee below.
Format
This event has a very unique format, it is a skins match that allows everyone on every card a chance to cash. Everyone will play 36 holes on the day. The first round will be standard stroke play to seed players in each division. The second round is a Skins Match on every card. The way that will work is as follows. If there are 12 players in your division I will figure a payout based on paying the top three places. Then the payout will be applied in the following manner, 1st to the first card, 2nd to the second card and so on. Then the that payout amount will be divided by 18 to determine the skins value per hole. This allows players on every card to cash in this event.
The payout will include the bonus pool that has been accumulating throughout the series in each division as well as any entry fee's paid by players that have not played in 5 or more event in the series. The bonus pool values in each division are as follows:
Open Women $42
Open Men $591
Open Master $132
Open Grand Master $117
Adv Women $33
Adv Men $837
Adv Master $330
Int Women $33
Intermediate $828
Rec Women $45
Rec Men $282
JR $27
The ace pot is still alive from Waco and is more than $500 to start.
I hope to see everyone there. Online registration is available now www.maceman.com. (http://www.maceman.com.)
I hope to see you there.
Brian

The meeting is at 9:30 and the rest will take care of itself. 2 Rounds should be wrapped up around 5 to 6 at the latest. But that depends on the weather and play...best I can guess.
Still didn't get the email, it has changed now as well.

Good luck everyone. Remember to shoot like $%^& the 1st round so that you are seeded low, then spank that a.s.s. the second round and win all of the skins on the card.
Nolan will be in Frognot so everyone in Open just climbed up one spot.
