#9 is not cart friendly, but you can take a long walk or carry your cart.

I'm confused how #9 would be a problem for carts?

Hole 12 is the only hole to cross the creek without a bridge? Or do they run the holes differently for the PIO?

I'm not trying to be a contrarian, but I honestly think the faster way would be to take I-20 over to SH 360 and go all the way up 360 to Stone Meyers Pkwy. Exit and take the U-turn and go to the 2nd right into the parking lot

ah, you need to read a little bit.

This weekend in Grapevine. The Poison Ivy Open. Usually a great turnout, so much this year Brian has split the tournament to two one day tournaments with Rec and Adv on Saturday and Am and Pro on Sunday.

The answer is........ (pseudo drum rolls)........

Probably yes. The ratings are still tied to your PDGA number and for the first of the year will probably still be calculated under the assumption that you are renewing. Also I doubt Maceman will get the TD report in before the end of next week anyway, so it is possible you could be renewed before the TD report is received, however, you will still be charged for not being current (I think) so if you can, save yourself some money, file your renewal with Maceman and write him a check. The check will be sent with the TD report and it will still probably be past next week before he sends it in. Just a suggestion and there is no garuantee of accuracy

If you need a renewal form, Maceman can probably get you one, but he may be very busy. I can also get you one if you are playing on Sunday. I could also possibly find one to e-mail you.

come on Steven...I saw that you played open at the VPO. Why not continue to play open and learn from the best players.

Great question!

At the VPO the mistake I made was playing a bit too high out of my league. When the second round started I was towards the bottom of the field in open (not the last card!!!) which meant that I was playing with people who really had no chance at winning and that had a real affect on the tone of the players. We were having a great time and not concentrating or focusing like we would have had we been playing for 1st. If I had been playing Advanced I would have been put into a card that a real chance at winning and I feel I would have not lost my concentration and focus like I did in the second round. I really need to learn HOW to win. I've been alright making good shots here and there but now I'm to the point where I want to learn how to manufacture "the zone."

Long story short, I want to be in a barrel where I'm playing at the top instead of fighting for the middle. Besides the VPO was only my 3rd tournament, I had plans on playing advanced/intermediate till the end of 2007.

I have one goal...to beat Michael Brownlow. lol!

Cold Toe (Brownlow) just started playing not to long ago....but he practices everyday. He plays open in all the minis and I believe that he is going to play both Advanced and Open this weekend at the PIO.

If you have ever won anything in your life then you already know how to win. To win in the advanced division all you have to do is play boring golf. Take your birdies when they are there, then just go for par on all the rest of the holes. The other people you are playing against will mess up on their own. Remember to compete against the course rather than the players on your card.

Keep playing....we need more open players.

Just in case Brian reads this (I don't have his phone number), Nicole will not be at the tournament today. I am still not 100 percent back to normal after my kidney surgery, and being a caddie for 2 rounds yesterday really wore me out. Therefore I don't think I can walk the course with Nicole for two more rounds today and still have energy to drive back to Houston tonight. So Nicole will have to miss today's rounds.

Thanks...........Rick

In reverse order of when they put in their time this weekend I want to thank and ask you to give them a big pat on the back when you see the following:

Britt Browning, Jason Chamberlain, Chris Pepperling, Lee Letts, Ray Murray, Ginnetta Chamberlain, and Jeff Davis. These people rule.

There were 2 aces each day, in reverse order: on hole 10 Lance Collett round 2, Joe Torres hole 10 round. Hollywood hole 1 round 2, and David Kinter hole 5 round 1 yesterday. They got $651.50 each!!

Here are the scores from today. (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=6456#Open)

4 ALL out there that could not be in attendance , i will sumarise. Great thumber off the tee, diving right @ the basket. Hits a funky branch on the way down and rolls out @ least 65 to 70 from the basket. On the tee , Chris proclaims, I got that putt. Mace - I posed this question last year w/o response so I thought I may try again...

if you want players to pre-register and it helps us and you out on starting on time..

WHY do we have to pay more to pre-register?..Can you set your website to make a pre-reg cost the same as signing up the same day?

I know a few dollars isn't a huge deal to you or us, but there is some logic there and it may bring more pre-regs

CB2
Jan 10 2007, 02:54 AM
Who get's that extra money?

okcacehole
Jan 10 2007, 03:43 AM
I am sure some of the cost is set up to offset the web upkeep, credit card costs, ect, but I see that as part of being the TD

If you already get to take in PDGA fees and course fees for running events that are C and B's..those costs should be covered..20%..20%..PDGA fees are required, but costs and course fees for running C's and B's aren't used as much today

I also want players to understand I AM NOT bashing MACE, but if you want pre-regs..they should not cost more than signing up the day of the event...

heck..even a dollar or so cheaper might make sense

Was rec women the only division that played the short tees in the 2nd round on Saturday? If so, will the rec women get ratings for the 2nd round on Saturday? SuperGirl (Nicole) shot 5 stokes better in the 2nd round then in the 1st round so we were hoping that the 2nd round would get rated (the unofficial round ratings listed for the rec women are incorrect for the 2nd round).

Jan 10 2007, 01:30 PM
That is not that bad of an idea Adam. It could also be one of the small reasons someone does not sign up until the day of the event.

I have a hard time registering more than a week out because I don't know what employee's I will have that weekend. Being that weekends are when we do all our business, I don't like to leave the store short handed.

Looks like Cedar Hill and the Midweek in Arlington will be a go for me, but I don't think I am going to be able (or afford) to play ZBoaz again this year.

maceman
Jan 10 2007, 02:17 PM
In answer to your question Adam the reason is that there is a charge to the merchant any time you use a credit card for any reason. It is a convenience to you and it costs the merchant to make it more convenient for you to spend your money.

I can see both sides of this argument, but when it comes down to it why do I need to pay to make it easier for you. Why should it cost the event and subsequently MM to save you the trip across town to register on Friday afternoon to guarantee you get a spot in the event? That $2 is a small price to pay for peace of mind knowing you are in, knowing that you can show up and you don't have to worry if the event is full because you are in.

When you look at it like that, you would spend 30 min each way to get to the course and back to register on Friday, and isn't your time worth more than $2 an hour? This is a very delicate business and many of you have this perception that I am getting rich and that there is "all of this money" floating around that I am hauling to the bank in an dump truck. But the reality is that there really isn't that much money, and if most of you had to live the way I do and make the money that I do you would have moved on long ago. Is there anyone out there that is driving a vehicle that has 351,000+ miles on it?

In many other sports you can't even sign up the day of the event. Many sports sell out events 3 months in advance. It is really unfair to the TD at any event that he or she should be driving out to the course on any given event day and not know what they will get in terms of attendance. Wondering if it will fill or not, they should know at that point. But it is not even remotely a concern for many players, in fact many players feel that a TD should make it easier on them by holding them a spot that will be paid for on Saturday morning if they happen to show up. We as a group are really hard on the people that are doing all of the work to make things better, and then without hesitation at the slightest bump in the road that person goes under the bus as the ******* that can't do this or that in the manner that is demanded by golfers that aren't willing to take on 10% of that responsibility.

Please don't misunderstand me on this. I am only calling it like I see it, and that is through the eyes of experience from both sides of the table. I started running events because I started listening to the things that are said about TD's regularly in every town in every state by all levels of golfers. Those things are less than complementary more often than not. I figured that I must think that I could do it better than the person that "we" were bashing at the time, so I decided to take my turn. I will not say that the events that we run aren't without flaws, but we do get it done.

I am not saying this for any other reason but to back up the fact that if I take out the credit card fee from over 100 players from the event then the positive cash flow to MM is less $200+ for the weekend, and that has a significant impact on the bottom line of the event.

Jan 10 2007, 02:27 PM
I think you should have a $10 late fee for peeps signing up day off, it's such a hassle on the TD to sign people up the day of and it puts the starting time in jeopardy.

just my $0.04 cents ;)

Jan 10 2007, 02:28 PM

I would not take for granted that you will be able to sign up on the day of the event for either Cedar Hill or Z Boaz. We had 30 sign up in the rain last year for Cedar Hill on Saturday, if it is nice I think it is safe to say it will fill. Z Boaz has been right at full or over each year we have held it with all divisions on the same weekend, so if you want to wait you may be disappointed.

I have not found a cheaper place to stay near Z Boaz than The Motel 6 on 377 in Benbrook. It is 3 blocks from the course and under $50 a night.

Kevin, this tournament is expected to fill this year. Sign up early even if you mail it in.

Brian, I think Adam tried to make it clear that he was trying to think of a way to get people to sign up early. Even though it is only $2, some players will sign up the day of just to avoid that cost.

Trust me, I know all about Saturday morning registration. Almost 60 players sign up for the Carrollton Open on Saturday this year. It was everything I could do to get the event started on time. They were signing up faster than I could enter them into the computer.

I will also point out that it is cheaper to use Maceman.com than Titledisc.com. I will use Titledisc first because I can use my Paypal account to pay for the event.

Brian, you should look into accepting paypal as another option. It will not cost you much more than you are already paying. (30 cents plus 2.94% if I am not mistaken)

okcacehole
Jan 10 2007, 03:43 PM
MM - as I stated I wasn't trying to bash on you but I thought it was a legitimate point

I think Bryan's idea of paypal may work better for you - check into it

When you look at it like that, you would spend 30 min each way to get to the course and back to register on Friday, and isn't your time worth more than $2 an hour?

It takes me 1 hour each way and that doesn't include gas costs. It isn't about the $2.00, but more about paying more to help things be smoother on Saturday when that doesn't happen.

We had 30 sign up in the rain last year for Cedar Hill on Saturday

All the pre-registed players also waited in that rain for more than 1 extra hour to get started. Why not just charge the $2.00 extra to people that sign up the day of the event?

I know that one year you toyed with the late fee for signing up, but then didn't stay with it.

MM - you know that I play your events and I enjoy them. Just hoping you may see one reason there are not so many pre-registered players.

As for getting rich - I hope all players know there isn't enough money in the game for that currently. I have been reading through some old Disc Golf Journals and it amazing how in 10yrs the prices of tournies, PDGA renewals, and plastic prices really haven't risen that much.

We are lucky to play the sport we all love at such a cheap price and to have TD's that will take our opinions, gripes and ideas and keep on running quality events - thanks MM

See you at Cedar Hill and I am bringing some Okies with me :D

Brian is absolutely right here. TD's get grief for only doing the best they can. Seems like the more they do the more grief they catch .

As far as late fees, I was doing that ($5 fee for Sat. sign-ups) and everyone had a complaint about it. I also encourage early sign-ups and offer every option through paypal and the event pays the fee. Did it help.... NO! People still show up on Sat morning wanting to sign up or don't show up because you are charging a late fee.

Brian,

Keep doing what you are doing Bro, those of us that know are behind you 100%. You run quality events and you know if it weren't for my health I'd be at every one of them.

Tournaments are supposed to be fun, help keep them that way, don't give the TD's grief.

It seams that this is an area of injustice toward the people who do the right thing. You sign up early and pay. Sign up late, #$*&$!, and moan about the late fee to a point that I let it slide. Then I am the bad guy when I can't get things under way on time because I am too nice, and hate to tell a player they are too late when they sign up at their convince.

It is most assuredly every players right to wait as long as they want to sign up. No reason to worry about anyone but yourself, and your convince UDGP.

In my opinion, I like pre-reg's since I play in such a sparse division. I am limited in the tourneys I can attend this year since I'm planning a wedding and honeymoon to Europe. Z-boaz is definitely one I WANT to make, but at the same time, I don't wanna go and only play in a field of 3. Last year, we had 5 Int women and 2 Adv women (but I was Int last year). So, hopefully this year there will be AT LEAST that many.

Please let me know if you know of women that will be there...I'm about 85% sure I will make it at this time, but I would like to make sure there will be some others.

Pre-registering helps everyone, especially the players who are standing around waiting.

I could not agree with this statement any more. If you are going to wait until the day of to register, then don't show up 5 minutes before the players meeting is supposed to start and make the other 90-150 people wait on you.

I know it's almost a week later, but any chance on getting the PIO rounds reloaded with the correct courses for the divisions and with more pdga #s :D:cool:

Jan 11 2007, 11:31 AM
In my opinion, I like pre-reg's since I play in such a sparse division. I am limited in the tourneys I can attend this year since I'm planning a wedding and honeymoon to Europe. Z-boaz is definitely one I WANT to make, but at the same time, I don't wanna go and only play in a field of 3. Last year, we had 5 Int women and 2 Adv women (but I was Int last year). I dont think u should worry about that this year. The local lady scene is really picking up. I am assuming that the following will be in attendance.
Stacia Pearce
De'Atra
Heidi Tesch
Stepahine Cantrell
Prolly Suemac and her crew
Prolly Liz Lopez

couple more might be in attendance.

Melissa,

I can assure you that Dee and I are coming. I will have an answer on Jenn Beazley by Saturday, but I would bet yes for her too.
Stacey P from LO is a good bet. Will pre-reg within next week for Dee and I.

So, come to Texas and play some golf girlfriend!

Deidre will be playing Cedar hill, and possibly z-boaz as well, depending on how that one conflicts with her work schedule.

As for the pre-registration cost, it's pretty simple. It costs money to authorize a credit card. Every time you buy something with your credit card, the vendor must ask his chosen clearing house to verify with your bank that the funds or credit is available. They charge the vendor for this service. Most clearing houses also charge a monthly fee just to have the privilege of using their service. I guarantee that mace (or any TD worth his salt) isn't going to charge you $2 extra if you pre-register by mailing him a check or money order. The extra money is *not* a pre-registration fee. it's a fee associated with the convenience of paying with your credit card. I think a lot of players forget that a credit card is not (usually) the only way to pre-register.

You can pre-register in person at the doubles event, by mail at any time before the event, or probably in person at any previous event. Mace will have to speak for himself on this one, but I think it's a safe bet that he will accept Z-Boaz entry fees at the Cedar Hill event. There are lots of other options for pre-registering, but if you want to do it the easiest and most convenient way, you have to pay a very small convenience fee.

It wasn't that long ago that all gas stations charged more for credit than cash transactions. Many smaller restaurants and stores still do. To this day, if you use your Chevron card at a Chevron station (for example), you save a little bit of money. That's because they don't have to pay the clearing house a fee, so they pass the savings on to you. It may seem that many major retailers have eliminated the credit card fee, but in reality they have not. They simply build that fee into their normal pricing structure to account for the large number of credit card transactions.

Now, if it costs mace an extra $2 to take your credit card entry versus taking your cash or check in advance... why should he have to eat that cost?

Hey everyone, don't forget about the car giveaway on a ctp throw tomorrow at Crowley. Rain or shine it's still gonna happen. Around 1 pm. You can see the hole its gonna take place on from your ride in the parking lot, and wait in your car until its your turn to throw if you wish. Hey MM your car has over 300,000 miles on it. The one I'm giving away only has 165,000 miles on it. Might be worth checking out.

Head's up for all of the out-of-towners coming in for the Big Show. With the recent weather we have had here in the metroplex, expect not only Cedar Hill but Z-Boaz to be a little sloppy . I would bring an extra pair of socks and possibly shoes for these events. We still have few weeks to go , but the forcast is calling for rain and cold. FYI!

We will be working on getting as much mulch in problem areas as possible.
