Anyone can tell me about American Sign Language interpreters provide for AM World? During Player's meeting, announcements and etc? I want to know what's going on during the whole week because I am Deaf. So are two more Deaf players, too.

DGA has stepped up with a pretty unbelievable deal regarding the chance to win 18 blood red Mach III baskets (http://discgolfassoc.com/discs-am-squall.html) for the Am Worlds in Wisconsin. Everyone should buy at least ONE of these squalls so you can say you have the chance to win an entire course (while supporting Am Worlds at the same time).
That leads us to an Am Worlds dilemma ... what in the world do we do with this basket (http://www.2007amworlds.com/files/07AmWorldsBasket.jpg) which is a one of a kind, hand made, collapsible, portable disc golf basket which actually has the wording 07 Am Worlds embedded around the basket?
The number plate alone looks like a piece of artwork you would want for your disc golf memory shop. Tom Holsten has been featured in Disc Golf World News for his fine craftsmanship as well as his unique eye for art in many forms. This fine collectible item needs a home and we are just not sure how it's going to find one.
Raffle? Silent Auction? Ebay?
Post some serious ideas on here because we are not sure what to do with it. The pictures simply don't do it justice.
::Examples of ideas that will not be taken seriously include:: "Give it away to the first person that responds to this post" or "Give it to the 2nd place finisher in the Junior Girls under 13 division" or "Whichever competitor takes the most 7's during Am Worlds week will win it".
Am Worlds begins in under 2 weeks - are you ready?
P.S. I just posted Mixed Doubles (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=6915) & Junior Doubles (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=6916) teams.

Have an Ace run. set it up at the field events. at a distance that the Jr players have a shot at. the first person that aces it gets it. if no one can ace it. set it on the final day, mark CTP's if still no ace the CTP gets it.

How about an online raffle. Get something setup where anyone can purchase raffle tickets online, or in person at the event. Then draw the winner the last day of the tourney and have the results posted live just like the scores are. This could help drive traffic to your website as well as open it up for a lot of ca$h. Then maybe you could donate the ca$h to a charity of choice.

I like the raffle idea.
The only concern I would have is that if the winner would need to be present or would you be willing to ship the basket? My vote: Be There!
Sell the tickets early in the week when people still have money! Raffle it early so the winner can play/practice on it during the week. This way you won't have to worry about having it shipped. You could start selling tickets online as well as when people check-in and up until the player's meeting or party.
I don't think Tom reads this post but tremendous job, again, on the basket.

*cringes* I was afraid you might get confused on that one Terry because of it being all last names. My little brother's doubles partner is my partner's little sister, so you should have a Wellin-Green pair in MJ1 AND MJ2. sorry, I hope thats not terribly hard to add... but like I said the money should be in.

I didn't go to bed last night. We have things being printed today, boxes of stuff so big that I can't get out of my front door, and last minute adds and drops every other second. It's GO time baby! With all of that being said I will just throw out a few thoughts here.
We have a bunch of raffles going on already which might be an issue or pose as a problem. Maybe it won't though.
The BLOOD RED DGA raffle which is one of the best of all time - 18 holes people! Each disc is 1 in 1000 chance of winning. Only 1000 discs made!
A Funjet Raffle which consist of only 100 Innova INNColor discs with a sweet design on it. You can win a trip for 2 by purchasing one of these discs. Your chances are as good as they can get with 1 in 100 for each disc bought. Only 100 were made.
We just finalized the details on an official AM WOLRDS BAG TAG program. Still working out the details there but people will get a sweet tag to start and we'll have prizes that are both random and according to how you finish. A bag tag and another goodie probably for $20. We just may raffle the $1500 Kicker Car audio system with that program. Only 200 Bag Tags are being made!
With some support from Innova we'll be giving away some pretty sweet packages at the Flymart on Tuesday night.
So we are back to this Tom Holsten, 2007 Am Worlds basket. I like the idea of it raising money somehow. We take that money and give it right to a great charity. Leukemia and Lymphoma is my ideal recipient and we already have a line item in the budget to help them out!
Did I mention that these player's packs are going to be worth about $160 each? Too bad you can't all come to my house right now to get a little sneak peek! I wouldn't want that because you'd all wet yourselves right in my front yard.

As part of Funjet Vacations Sponsorship, we have an INNColor Disc available with a beautiful background showing downtown Milwaukee and the world Famous Milwaukee Art Museum by Calatrava! With the purchase of this disc, you will be eligible to win (2) round trip tickets to Cancun, Mexico! Since this is a VERY limited disc, with only about 100 being produced, you have a very good chance of winning yourself (2) round trip air seats to Mexico for as long as you wish. You could go for 3 days, 14 days or anything in between, your choice!
Discs will be available at the Am Worlds Merchandise tables all week, and the Flymart which is slated for Tuesday, July 24th
We have Wraiths and Aviars available in this VERY LIMTED RUN! We have already sold a handful, so get them while you can!
Wouldnt that be something, by supporting the 2007 Am Worlds, you have the chance to Win a 18 Hole Disc Golf Course (DGA Squal Promo) or Round Trip Airfare to Mexico, by just picking up a few discs!
Please Support the Am Worlds!
Thanks

Wow! No one answers my question and it is not a hard question. I guess you all are dumb or biased against Deaf's request for ASL interpreters. You think I sit down at the player's meeting or etc and know nothing's going on? Jeez! I feel sorry for you!
No worries, I think I have a better idea. If I throw wrong hole, disc on OB, miss mandatory or etc then I should not get 1 stroke penalty because NO ONE tells me about the rules at the meeting without the ASL interpreters /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif :D:D

Tan ...
I'm partially deaf myself. The local deaf disc golfers paid for me to take my first 2 intro to ASL classes. I gave a disc golf demonstration at the Wisconsin School for the Deaf. I am co-hosting a Deaf Disc Golf Outing with Deaf Empowerment in August. I would say that I am closer to the Deaf Disc Golf Community than any other disc golf promoter in Wisconsin. Deaf Disc Golfers ARE a priority to me and to the 2007 Am Worlds!
I am working on the details for ASL interpreters and plan to have them for the meetings and other functions. I didn't answer your questions because the details are in the works. The long and short of it is ... one way or another we will have some interpreters at the player's meeting.
Local deaf disc golfers, Mike Maffucci and Scott "Space Cadet" Kendziorski wouldn't let me have it any other way.
I'll see you here in Milwaukee!

Is anyone going to Indaina State Championships on Sunday July 29. Yes that is a tourny right after 5 days of tourny play. It will be my first official Pro tourny. It will be at Lemon Lake County Partk. in NW Indiana. If anyone is interested in goin just let me know. I will have some room at my house for some golfers.
To Terry and to people who answered,
Thanks for the answering! :) I apologize for being so blunt or an a** recently!! I tend to get a demand because I am living in a big world where I am always the last person to know the news before hearing people get.
Yes, I appreciate it because I sent the first question a long time ago and Scott sent me a pm about getting interpreter for AM World and ??? I do not know if he or Wisconsin Deaf Golf actually find the interpreters for AM World. So, I am trying to get an answer from one of the AM World committees, not him. I do not mean to push Terry on his hard working for the tournament. I do not want to make him overwhelm since he is very busy and I thank him for his excellence work to make sure we, the players, will enjoy there real soon :D Also, I want to say my apology for being upset since when I saw the comments of some people are worried about where to stay at camping or RV or where to find cheese. Are they most important? Come on, they can find thru website. No offense  :D Actually, it is no big deal to discuss because I am trying to get a point, though.
That is an awesome to know that some of you took the ASL courses... I have two friends who will go to the AM World, they are ASL learners, too. Frankly, I do not want to use them or you who are ASL learners to interpet for me because you are players and suppose to have fun, not workers :D
I want to be honest with you guys, if the AM World or Wisconsin Deaf Golf Assocation cannot find the interpreters to provide. No worries and just give me a player's meeting handbook and I will read it because I am cool with that. If I win the AM World Championship, you better find an interpreter at the award because I wanna say something to congratulation, winks!
By the way, when you meet me... Please do not think I am an a** lol!
To 2007 AM World, here we go! *Cheers*

I can vouch for Tan - he is a great guy, hard competitor and always looking to have fun. He currently co-holds the doubles record at Emerald Isle Golf Course in Oceanside, CA, so he is also a good disc golfer.
Earlier this year there were some problems at tournaments in SoCal with getting player information signed for hearing-impaired players. That has since been corrected, but a few players were penalized because they missed some info. It's good to hear that this won't happen at Worlds!

Geez - how many of you guys have "roc" or "rock" in your screen names? It gets confusing trying to keep you all straight!!
People started calling me "John Rock" in 1983 because of the work I do. In fact, at the big company I worked for, I used to sign my timecard as "John Rock" and never failed to get a paycheck! ;) A lot of the people in the Disc Golf world have no idea of what my real last name is. So when I registered on this site, "John Rock" just seemed like a good screen name, since that's what most people know me as.

Where does it specify in the rule book as to the dress code? I can not find it in the current PDGA rule book.
Then can the shirt be a full-length-button-up shirt like a dress shirt? What about shorts? do they have to be kahaki? or work out type shorts?

Anyone in the area have room for a recently stranded player to camp on their yard? I have a place to stay in Madison, but I don't feel like commuting an hour each day, each way. The person with whom I was originally splitting a room decided he wasn't going to register/go, and I can't afford a room on my own.

I do not know if anyone already answer or not. Am wondering about require to wear polo shirts? I just want to make sure I pack enough :D
3.4. Dress Code
A. All competitors and staff are required to wear a shirt.
B. All competitors and staff are required to wear shoes or
other foot coverings. Players will not be allowed to play in
bare feet. Sandals or slides are allowed.
C. The following dress code for all competitors will be
enforced at all PDGA National Tour and Major Events. The
PDGA also recommends that this dress code be enforced
at Super Tour and lower tier events, but this decision lies
solely with the Tournament Director:
(1) All players in PDGA sanctioned competition and
tournament staff are expected to dress appropriately
and to maintain a clean and well-groomed appearance
at all event sites and associated functions.
(2) All players must wear a shirt covering their upper
chest area. A well-tailored shirt with a fold-down,
mock turtle, v-neck, crew neck, Henley, or zippered
collar, and with sleeves covering the part of the arm
from the shoulder to the elbow (commonly known as
the upper arm), shall be considered acceptable.
Women are also allowed to wear sleeveless shirts as
designated above.
(3) No tee shirts will be allowed, except for competitors in
the Junior and Amateur divisions during preliminary
rounds only. Juniors and Amateurs shall not wear tee
shirts during semifinal or final rounds. Crew neck or
V-neck shirts made of high-performance or high-tech
materials, such as Dry-Fit, Cool-Max, and others will
be allowed.
(4) Shirts that hang down lower than the bottom hemline
on the players shorts shall be tucked in.
(5) No ripped shirts, shorts, pants will be allowed on the
course. This includes unhemmed, torn or cut vents
at the shirt collar.
(6) No offensive, profane, or obscene slogans or logos
shall be allowed on any clothing. Junior players may
not wear slogans or logos referring to alcohol or
tobacco.
(7) This dress code will be in effect from start to finish at
each event, including all tournament rounds.
(8) Players who do not make a cut, but wish to remain on
site through the duration of the tournament, will be
considered spectators and will not be required to
conform to the Tours dress code.
I copied that from the NT handbook.

Tan hope this helps.
My son's Sponsor http://www.night-owlgraphics.com/ found some collard shirts that are tee-shirt materal very light. I have no Idea of the cost, All his tournament shirts are part of the sponsorship. I think they are made by Gildan, Anvil and Jerzees - Golf. Andrew is very hot natured so we need something cool. the above brands all have the light Collared shirts.
If you follow the link, click on apparel, then Generic Catalog. At the top you can pick Brand and style. You should be able to find all these in your area.

Oh boy ... do I have a treat for you guys!
I hope most of you checked out the maps that were posted regarding the courses. They had my handy work of some Google earth stuff then some points plotted over the top of it to depict the holes, etc.
Needless to say those 'adequate' maps are a thing of the past because we have John Dorn on staff and he's ready to knock your socks off with new and improved, 2007 Am Worlds MAPS. (http://www.pdga.com/documents/2007/07AmWorldsCourseMaps.pdf) I will tell you this right now - maps do not get much sweeter than these!
Thanks so much to John Dorn. Many of you have seen his stamps including the two Super Roc designs from this year, this year's Pro World's logo, and hundreds of other stamps. Feel free to check out his website (http://www.throwingart.com). John is pretty much, 'the man'.

Am Worlds is a major so the longer dress code rules apply.
But note that the PDGA does not have a collared shirt rule, per se. Crew necks, v necks and henleys do not have a collar and they are allowed. T-shirts are allowed in preliminary rounds. For those of you who don't know what a crew neck is, its the neck you see on most t-shirts. So the rule is contradictory and incomprehensible.
Welcome to the PDGA.
At Am Nationals Pad Timmons told me I could not wear my T-shirt. I asked him if he had a copy of the rule. He did not. I suggested that he might read the rule and get back to me.

I personaly think collared shirt should be worn at World's. any thing we can do to bring the sport up. The World championship is the sports best chance to get news coverage. The nicer the players look the better Disc Golf looks. This is from non-invitiee. but I require my son to wear a collored shirt every round. As stated before it easy for us, his are supplied.

All of my tee shirts have collars. :) They do not have Byron collars, which is the style on most golf-style shirts.
Basically, the BOD thought the "collared" shirt rule was too restrictive. At that time, it was even more restrictive than even the PGA Tour with respect to shirts. The PGA Tour's dress code evolved from the dress codes of the country clubs they played their events at. Most public parks have no dress code that I'm aware of (other than the standard public indecent exposure laws). Remarkably, even though Bruce says the rule in incomprehensible, it seems most players are comprehending as well as they comprehend any other rule. Always ask the TD if you have any questions. Probably this message board isn't the best place to ask the TD.

After looking at the pics from past am worlds I see everything from t-shirts to polos. So then it must only matter what the shirt has on it.
So then Terry what is the TD's ruling on the dress code? Also then does that mean I can wear sleeveless shirts as long as they are appropriately tailored?

We apologize if someone wasn't accommodated but know that it wasn't from a lack of trying.

No pics yet, since we're only between Battle Creek and Kalamazoo on I-94, but I've started a 2007 Am Worlds Blog here - http://2007amworlds.blogspot.com/.
If anyone else would like to make posts there, just give me a note at

If you won't want to be a poster, but would like me to post something - like a picture - send it to me, also.

Mike Batka won Advanced, but the long throw of the day came from someone in the 16 and under division if I remember correctly. It was a tough day for distance as the wind switched over to East/NorthEast and ended up being just about a direct head wind for the throwers.

It looks like Jaimie and Ziggy won the junior doubles: -11 alternate shot on Dretzka Original in the morning and -9 best shot on Dretzka New in the afternoon, a -20 on the day.
I think Sheila and I are tied for 10th out of 31 mixed doubles teams with a -5 on the day.

Pete May was on the board of directors when this amnesty was approved. The real reason to have pros play ams was So that Pete May himself would now have a chance to win a world title without Peter Shive snatching it from him on the final nine at the worlds 06. On his home course! I guess Pete's odds would improve to win a championship if he was playing with people with 700 + player rating or someone who is legally blind like myself. I withdrew when I saw that pros would now be allowed to play in our world championship. I highly suspect that 5 or 6 other of my friends in the senior ams withdrew or did not enter for this very same reason. Pete May took 2nd in the pro worlds last year an won $800.00. What was the board thinking when they allowed this to happen? The seniors now do not have an Am World tournament!! You pros that are playing ams need to man up, grab your gonads and play PRO after all It was your decision to take the money.

I'm more disappointed that the new Dineen Park course wasn't tweaked after the Last Call of 2006 and Greater Milwaukee Open tournaments to make it a little tougher. The SSA at these tournaments varied from 45.3 - 47.7. Imo, courses used in Worlds shouldn't allow scores of 43 - pitch 'n' putt is supposed to be a thing of the past. Whoever wins Worlds shouldn't come down to who can putt the best.

The fact is that I would have absolutely no problem with this if he indeed had an injury or moved to AM and competed in ADV but he didn't and he is competing in the SAME age division that he took 2nd in Pro last year. Seriously it is lame and I have lost most of the respect I have for him as a BoD member.
He took advantage of the system and in such a way that is unsportsmanlike.
If he knew he wasn't going to be able to play then why not just stay Pro since he wouldn't be playing many events anyway instead of trying to take advantage of the system which he had a part in implementing?

You know Matt Hall, Pete May has been an All Star contributor to disc golf and the PDGA these past few years. The amnesty rule was available to all last xmas. He went for it. As someone who knows him personally, I confirm he's played dg maybe 5 times this year, and he had an "older man's" operation recently.
Sooo to you I say ... whatever. Pls find something or someone worth howling about, if howl you must, rather than posting BS about a real giver to the sport.
Thx
BDH
What was his reasoning for going for it? He was a top competitor in his current division in the 1st place so why move back to AM? I see no reason why he should have moved back down and I see it as taking advantage of the system. The amnesty rule was put to use to help those guys who were no longer competitive become so once again but this is NOT why he seemed to go for the Amnesty because he was very competitive within his own division.
Why couldn't he have just stayed Pro and played a few times this year instead of moving back down? Couldn't he have still gone to Pro Worlds?
I think the Amnesty was a good idea if and only if it was used for the intended purpose and in this case I feel that it was used for other purposes.

I think one of the points Pete made in deliberately doing what he did was pointing out that most pros are truly amateurs, and many in the older divisions are actually ams playing for cash. I believe he would encourage the rest of the Sr GMs to move to Am also because he still would like to compete with Peter.
Of course, those like Peter Shive believe in a Pro Tour for seniors and more power to them if they can legitimize it. On the other hand, there's nothing wrong with the best player in the world in any age bracket, man or woman, being an amateur.
