Ryan,
Please read below.
Last time I spoke with the PDGA they had said that a bunch came in. I think they will be updating the pre-registration page in a week or less.
I think I remember hearing that it will then be updated every couple of weeks. Obviously it will get more updates as it gets closer and closer.
Anticipation is certainly growing and we are looking forward to having everyone! Soon I will have more details about our Am Worlds Warm Up event which will be on Memorial Day weekend. Look for that to be posted in the next few days.

I have created a Google Group for people to use so they can discuss things like sharing rooms and finding rides. I don't know if it will be any better than creating an additional thread here on the PDGA message board but I think it's worth a try.
Just today I received an e-mail from a gentleman looking for a women partner for the mixed doubles. This isn't the first time I've received a request of this nature. I don't know if there is a great way to get this type of stuff out there so that's why I've created this group.
Of course its free and anyone can join. Here is the Am Worlds Google Group Link (http://groups.google.com/group/amworlds). I also made an initial post in there from Greg Wheeler (the guy looking for a partner).

We are about 1 week away from the Am Worlds open registration! I encourage everyone that received an invite to get your stuff in immediately.
Here is a scenario that I don't want to deal with in a few months:
Invited person X gets an invite in March.
Invited person X sits on their invite and doesn't secure spot by May 18th.
Invited person X tries to register on July 10th.
Invited person X is put on a waiting list because the event is full.
Invited person X calls to complain thinking we should have held a spot just for them.
PDGA / TD responds with, "We sent you an invite and gave you 2 exclusive months to pay for your reserved spot. We are sorry you waited too long and now you can't play because too many others sent in".
Possible? Yes. Likely? Yes. Please don't be "Invited person X".
To Mini Thumber:
Since many of the courses are in the midst of getting new fairways and tee pads we are going to now start taking new pictures for everyone to see online. A local golfer told me just the other day that he would like to head up this project.

Hey , is there a more specific date of when the open registration will start. In the email i got from the PDGA, they said invited players get 2 months to secure spot. If invites were sent out on March 15 wouldn't that make May 15 the end of the 2 month period? In your post you said about 1 more week until registration opens to all. Is the PDGA giving the invited players an extra week to sign up? If so it does not sound quite fair to those who have been waiting to sign up. Just wondering if you could clarify this.
discglfr
May 14 2007, 04:35 PM
The exact date will be Monday, MAY 21st.
The reason you are seeing a few different dates is pretty simple. I wrote the letter on one day, the PDGA received it on another, they proofed it on another, and finally it was mailed out via snail mail and electronically on another. The date on the invite letter was actually March 19th and rather than starting the open registration on a Friday they are doing it on Monday.
It has nothing to do with giving anyone any 'extra time'. I'm guessing that there will be close to 300 (or more) spots available come Monday, May 21st when registration opens to everyone. I was just urging the invited people to hurry up and get their stuff in if they really plan to come.

The courses are in the ground right now and will be practiced this weekend for the Greater Milwaukee Open B-Tier. We hope to emulate the Am Worlds layout as much as possible this weekend so it's truly a Preview of what people will see in just 2 short months. Of course we'll have to tweak a hole or two and a pin position or two but it should be pretty close.
The pins will be shifted around after this weekend but they should pretty much be in Am Worlds positions at least 2 weeks leading up to Am Worlds.
Camping is set up through the Lazy Days Campground near West Bend. We really don't have much camping in the Milwaukee area so your best bet will be about 30 minutes away (at best).
The max capacity for the event is in fact 576. That is a HARD NUMBER because we are using 4 courses which will be running 3 rounds on them per day. The numbers don't lie - 576 is the max and we may be the first Am (or Pro) Worlds to ever fill to FULL CAPACITY.

It's a series of "stations" where you have prescribed shots: Think "This must be a forehand roller," and "This must be a forehand throw," to varying distances. Your score is determined by how far you are from the basket after you throw and you add up all of (I think.) 20 stations to get an overall score.
As, ahem, the Am Worlds Champ from Iowa, I encourage lots of people to try to beat me in Milwaukee!

When you're charging someone $175 to play, it doesn't cost $10 more to take the $175 out of their hand. Especially if they are amateurs.
I've been back and forth on whether we were coming this year. I finally got my income tax refund and I go look at prices. Forget it. If we play the doubles and the field events, we're spending almost $1,000 on entry fees. And then we have to give the guy $50 more or else he won't take our $1,000?
Come on!
As to Mr. Red Johnson Herring, walk to the other end of the table if you don't like Innova's pricing policies. There's nothing I can do about that.

$110 is pretty darn cheap for a WEEK long MAJOR event. Most ONE day tourneys are charging over $40 to play. Worlds is a steal in my opinion. If the field events/doubles add on too much cost then just skip them.

Bruce, $175.00, what tournament, and division are you trying to enter. You can play for cheaper, plus you can also enter into field events, which also cost money, but you don't have to. Your response sounds like it goes far deeper than this tnmt. With gas prices going up, you may want to consider not playing if it will cause a finiancial hardship. This great sport is very ecnomical, ie monthlies, weekly doubles, or for free in most parks. All within 50 miles of you. Dont bruise the sport, love it,support it, and make it grow, or invite a new player, all with a positive outlook. You'll sleep better. The committee has, and will spend many hours, gas, phonecalls, letters, repair computers, marking lines, the list goes on. Trust me your $10:00 is a steal. You will even get to see me, and we might become best friends. Good Luck

All players must wear a shirt covering their upper
chest area. A well-tailored shirt with a fold-down,
mock turtle, v-neck, crew neck, Henley, or zippered
collar, and with sleeves covering the part of the arm
from the shoulder to the elbow (commonly known as
the upper arm), shall be considered acceptable.
^^^That's what it says in the NT handbook. According to that a t-shirt would be acceptable, but a collared shirt would look waaaay more professional. I think ams used to only have to wear a collared shirt in the final round, but evidently that has changed.

People want to know if the new Supercolor Buzzz will be in there or if the Am Worlds Squalls or Super Rocs will be in there. NONE of the fundraising items will be in the player's packs. They are special items that are used to help make your Am Worlds experience better so please purchase them.
I hope that was helpful yet secretive enough all at the same time. I have been getting asked over and over what's going to be in them and I'll just continue to say, "The player's packs alone will be worth your entry fee".

For those of you that were not able to attend, you missed a great Am Worlds Preview at the Greater Milwaukee Open. Brown Deer played real tough, with several 1000 rated players shooting 54 or higher. New Dretzka and old Dretzka played like expected with many pros and ams shooting under par. Dineen played about the same as the Dretzkas did.

are the groupings for AM Worlds done by player rating the first round or random?
The Advanced A pool will likely be seeded by rating. The other pools probably randomized so that each is relatively equal strength. Traditionally, International players get in the A pool and players who ask to ride together are in the B pool.
chappyfade
May 30 2007, 06:22 PM
For Am Worlds, more attention has previously been paid to pairing people who wanted to play in the same pool (sharing rides), and that trend SHOULD continue. Player rating has never been used to seed pools for AM WORLDS, and it really shouldn't be, as ratings as much more dynamic with Ams anyway, making such comparisons much less useful than for the pros.
Chap
ck34
May 30 2007, 07:33 PM
With the imbalance of courses at Am Worlds this year, I think Dave and Brian will at least consider seeding the A pool by ratings the way it's been regularly been done for Pro Worlds.
chappyfade
May 30 2007, 10:04 PM
I think that would be a mistake. Ratings are way too dynamic for ams, and there's too much of a regional bias with the ratings (less so with the pros, since there are more pros that travel around and the ratings homogenize some). I can still show you where a tournament where I beat someone in another pool by 2 shots, and my average rating was 12 points LOWER than the other player, even though though conditions wre identical. And that's in the same tournament. A 920 Am player in California might only be a 900 player in the midwest. That's still happening to a degree. (And I still think the ratings are great, but they need more seasoning) I'm still not really crazy about seeding the PROS, but I'm deadset against it with the ams.
It's much more important to get people a couple of days to ride with their travelling companions to the courses, and that way it gives them time to find rides if they get separated after the shuffle.
And the Pros have only been seeded this way since the 2000 Pro-Am Worlds, and even then the Competition Director had to grant an exemption because seeding the field that way was at that time against PDGA rules.

Any Idea when the registration list will be updated. This thing is getting closer, still too far away, but getting closer. Has anybody contacted the city tourism office and ask if those cheese heads that are worn at the Packer Games can be donated to the players package. How cool would that be.

The Am Worlds hotel blocks are quickly coming to an end! Like all other hotel blocks many of them are only reserving our PDGA Am Worlds rooms for another few weeks. After that point they go back to the general public.
I have checked around with many of the hotels that we worked with and many of them have had very little response. I cannot stress enough that once we lose our block you will be subject to higher rates and worse - there is a good chance you won't get a hotel anywhere near a course! Hotels during the summer months of Milwaukee SELL OUT!
This Am Worlds Map (http://www.pdga.com/documents/2007/07AmWorldsOverviewMap.pdf) gives you an idea of where the hotels are. The main hotel is the Four Points Sheraton. I know that the Courtyard By Marriott is releasing their block sometime on JUNE 6th!
Check out this Am Worlds Hotel Comparison Chart (http://www.pdga.com/documents/2007/07AmWorldsHotelComparisonChart.pdf) for more information about the hotels. Where ever you stay and whatever you do, please just do it soon because it will ruin your week if you have to go through Milwaukee traffic each morning heading to a course! Get hooked up with ONE of our host hotels!
PS - The event has over 400 (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=5831) competitors already!!! We are a month and a half away and we are already 70% full! The cap is 576 and when the spots are gone, they're gone! Get signed up today.

I've brought cheese home in my suitcase before- sounds aweful, but if it's sealed it will be okay for a few hours- I visited N. Illinois in Sept and made a run for the border for cheese- and the people at the factory advised what kind would be okay for a few hours.

If you are staying at one of the host hotels there should be others in your pool staying there. I would assume that there will be some type of message board or ride board in the lobbies of these hotels. The REGISTRATION list (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=5831) has been updated!
We are currently at 76% of full capacity which means our current count is 436 people. That's pretty intense when we are still 42 days away! Do you know what this means? It means that if you know anyone looking to come to this event they should get registered now.
I have had requests for 'saving spots' and simply put ... that can't happen. It is first come, first served. Hundreds of people received early invites but didn't take advantage of them. Now everyone (and their mother) can sign up for this event as long as they are a current PDGA member with appropriate Amateur status. DO NOT DELAY about getting your 2007 Am Worlds registration information submitted to the PDGA.
I have to send out a huge THANKS to the entire PDGA staff that has been handling all of the registrations. They receive dozens of phone calls and e-mails every single day just like I do. Many of these questions are answered if you diligently read every link (http://www.pdga.com/documents/2007/AmWorldsInfo.php) found on that web page.
Looking forward to a few major things that are to be coming soon:
- More 2007 Am Worlds merchandise offered on the website
- More information about the 2007 Am Worlds Bag Tag Challenge
- More updates found on the 2007 Am Worlds website
Thanks!

-Will there be ride boards at the host hotels, or some sanctioned method for helping people find rides?
-What are the formats for the doubles event? Are there multiple competitions for say, mixed doubles, junior doubles, junor mixed, etc.?

I haven't found any pictures of the courses. Last year Tulsa had book showing the layout of each hole with the distance, OB's, ect. Will there be something like that available this year? Or a web site to view the course before we play? If not, which courses would the locals suggest we definitely check out before tournament play starts?
Only a few more weeks!!!

I stayed up through the night so I could get some updates posted for everyone. A large portion of my work consisted of the player confirmation package which will receive a review from the PDGA in the next few days. It will be sent out as soon as the PDGA reviews and approves it.
The 2007 Am Worlds Event Website (http://www.2007amworlds.com) has received some major updates. Probably the most useful are these specific links:
Area Map at Am Worlds (http://www.2007amworlds.com/files/AreaMap.pdf)
Brown Deer Course Map (http://www.2007amworlds.com/files/BrownDeerCourseMap.pdf)
Dineen Course Map (http://www.2007amworlds.com/files/DineenCourseMap.pdf)
Dretzka Original Course Map (http://www.2007amworlds.com/files/DretzkaOriginalCourseMap.pdf)
Dretzka New Course Map (http://www.2007amworlds.com/files/DretzkaNewCourseMap.pdf)
Distances are NOT on these maps because they are being finalized this week by the PDGA Tour Manager, David Gentry. We are still working on getting pictures of each hole and getting those posted as well.
I also updated the Take Flight Today website (http://www.takeflighttoday.com/index.php?cPath=38) which has Am Worlds Merchandise available to purchase. We still need to get photos of the tee shirts and polos that are available to purchase.
The list of pre-registered players (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=5831) currently says 507 but the PDGA has told me already that they have received a bunch more entries since the update last Friday. If you have any thoughts of playing or know anyone else that hopes to play you should have them register immediately. The website is still Disc Golf Signup (http://www.discgolfsignup.com) and the INVITE CODE IS: 07AmOnline.

I debated on posting this but I figured it will give some of you an idea of Brown Deer. Here is the "old" version of Brown Deer park. Some of the holes are quite different and re-routing of the course has created some hole # changes. Here is what I remember:
#1 (new)
#2 (new)
#3 (variation of old hole 10)
#4 (old hole 11 with water)
#5 (old hole 12)
#6 (old hole 13)
#7 (old hole 14)
#8 (old hole 15)
#9 (old hole 16)
#10 (old hole 17)
#11 (old hole 18)
#12 (old hole 1)
#13 (old hole 2)
#14 (old hole 3 with tee pad moved to new location)
#15 (old hole 4)
#16 (old hole 5)
#17 (new hole)
#18 (old hole 9)

WOW,
What a week it's been. David Gentry from the PDGA was here for the past 6 days and we had the chance to review the progress of both the Am Worlds I'm running and also the Highbridge Hills Sports Complex where the Pro Worlds will be just one week later.
Hours and hours of discussions regarding everything from a particular tree branch that should or shouldn't be removed all the way down to just how awesome the player's packs will be. I'm very excited about everything going on and with that being said, I have plenty of work to do in the next 3 weeks. Singles competition is exactly 3 weeks from today and it is going to be awesome!
I simply cannot say enough about Mark Peterson and the entire GLDGC club that has been helping out with all of this. The courses need a few final touches and we're going to get those all addressed.
If you haven't signed up you are in big trouble because this could fill on any given day. There are over 528 people signed up already! We have a waiting list for a few divisions so please get signed up immediately if you are coming.
More to come from me in a few days once I get some of these tasks accomplished.
Thanks!

I'm staying at Lazy Days in my RV. The Yogi Bear campgrounds are very nice, in fact I'm staying at the one in Fremont, WI the weekend before Worlds. A couple of things to keep in mind is Yogi Bear campgrounds will be more expensive than Lazy Days but will probably offer more services but if you're off disc golfing everyday why pay for all the extra services. The other thing to keep in mind is the location of the campground in relation to the courses. Generally speaking the courses are on the north side of Milwaukee so if you stay at a campground south of Milwaukee be prepared to deal with whatever traffic issues they have in the morning and afternoons.
Happy Trails.

That is about 15-20 minutes max north of Dretzka Park and 30-35 minutes max from Brown Deer/Dineen Park. I would know I live in West Bend, WI 53095.
Perfect location to stay. West Bend has a bunch of resturants and stores.
I will confirm with Jay that the traffic will be much more bare able than coming from the south end of Milwaukee will be.

If you are up for the drive (about 45 minutes from Dretzka), I strongly recommend Widmer's in Theresa which is in my neck of the woods up here. Pretty country, and great Brick along with Brick cheese curds. Get the youngest they got!
Baker in St. Cloud does a great mozzarella and string cheese.
For those heading up to Highbridge afterwards, Union Star Cheese Factory does a great Colby. Of course, the cheese factory in Colby itself (forget the name) or any other in the Marshfield area all do a great Colby.

Most cheese markets are no different than the local grocery stores for us. Same products, same age, no real excitement. Perhaps Karl's Country Market at W156n5645 Pilgrim Rd
Menomonee Falls, WI 53051-5924 (about a 10 to 15 minute drive from Dretzka, and an award winning sausage house to boot) would be better. I'll have to think about that one for awhile.
Otherwise, I'm coming down for a full day during the week (probably Wednesday), the back half of Friday, most of Saturday, and perhaps an extra evening in there somewhere. Hopefully I'll see you!

In addition to Karl's (right near the Enk abode and about 10 minutes away from Dretzka), Brennan's in Brookfield (a quick jaunt down I-94 about 25 minutes away) has world champion cheeses as well as superb produce. V.Richards/Sendiks is also very good.
If any one maybe interested and are older than 14, I can see about a tour of the Harley-Davidson plant (free), as I am an employee and have some contacts in the tours area.
Also, for those that may get to town on the weekend, I can see about tickets to Miller Park (they are playing San Fran and the other Barry may be looking to break the record that weekend.

Am Worlds Registration (http://www.discgolfsignup.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=011&PROD=1174254716) is closing in just a few days. I'm pretty confident the PDGA doesn't budge on that date because we need to get things like player's packs put together for each of you.
Please register immediately if you are planning on playing. More info will be available soon regarding the pools that are already full. Remember, if you play in a pool that is full you can still sign up and come and play in the regular advanced division because you are eligible for that division as well. You may not fair as well but you'll still have an awesome time. The player's packs alone are worth over $140 (and counting).

All doubles competition will be taking place at Dretzka. One round at each course. The numbers haven't told us if we will need to use both courses at once or not. Hopefully not because then we'll only have to close one course in the morning and then the other one in the afternoon for the doubles competition.
Again, it's all about the numbers. Registration numbers will determine which courses get played and in what order. We are planning for a 9 AM player's meeting that morning AT DRETZKA.
Your very last chance to sign up for mixed or divisional doubles will be at check in on Saturday or Sunday. There will be NO walk up registration for doubles on Monday morning.
The PDGA is hoping to get the confirmation packets with this info (and lots of other info) out in e-mail and on websites tomorrow. I apologize for the delay - we have been waiting on some last minute confirmation stuff because I'd rather give you more up to date information then give it prematurely and have it be inaccurate.
Get signed up today for the event because deadline is this Friday!

Terry, (or anyone else who knows)
I am still wondering if we can pull out of field events that we preregistered for. I think my time would be better spent out seeing one of the courses, and my schedule has changed such that it will prevent me from being in town before Sunday.
Thank you. If there is no way to get my money back I would certainly understand, but I need to know one way or the other.
Call PDGA Headquarters at 706-261-6342. They should be able to cut you a refund check.

Now were getting somewhere. Browndeer must be an actual ball golf course if we can't get on it till pga is completed. That will be sweet. Now all we need is the smack talk, which Country will bring home the title, then we can break it down to state. Carolina will be in the mix, word

Rock,
They use the same fields for parking (see holes 6-9) for the PGA event. I worked with the chairwoman for the transportation committee for the PGA event over the weekend for the Senior US Open, and requested that the be as gentle as possible on the grounds. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Rock,
Did not quite break 700 but did jump nearly 50 pts in rating, Shot a 750 + round and as long as I stay in Wisconsin, I am at least feeling like I can compete to jump off the bottom of the division.
Thanks for asking,
Steve

Contact the PDGA directly to see if a refund is possible. They are handling all of those types of requests.

Also ... feel free to check out Menomonee Park (http://www.waukeshacounty.gov/page.aspx?SetupMetaId=10980&id=11088). You will immediately then ask us ... "why isn't there ia disc golf course there yet?" It's a great park.

Yes, that was the shot, wait till you see this shot at worlds, 280 ft into a tub of Wisconsin Cheddar Cheese, and I'm going in to get it. You'll just have to give me a penalty stroke, Wisconsin did'nt go out of thier way for me to leave my disc in there.
Wisconsin, here we come, carolinians in full force. This team FFF departs in 211 hrs. CupcAce is teaming up for mixed doubles with the Risley, they will form team "coast 2 coast" where the shores come together.
