Might as well start our own thread on this. Highbridge Hills Sports Complex (HHSC) in northern Wisconsin was approved to host the 2007 Pro Worlds at the recent PDGA Summit Meeting in AZ. It will be the week following the Am Worlds in Milwaukee which should create a lot of excitement in Wisconsin, almost like having the Am & Pro Worlds at the same location. The planned dates are Tuesday, July 31 thru Saturday, August 4, 2007.
For those who haven't yet heard of HHSC, it's a private facility owned by John Jokinen and his extended family of 20+ relatives of Finnish decent that all live in the area about 20 miles south of Lake Superior. It hosted the successful first year of the US Mid-Nationals last July, with year 2 of the Mid-Nationals coming up again this July. There are currently four championship courses on the top of one hill with the first tees all within 100 yards of each other. Another gold level course will be completed in time for PW2007 which will also have tee 1 in the same area as the other four. For a quick tour of the current four courses, visit www.campdiscoveru.com/hhsccourses.htm (http://www.campdiscoveru.com/hhsccourses.htm)
The Whitecap Ski & Golf Resort is 30 minutes from Highbridge and will be the host hotel for several of the activities. We are hopeful they will also install an 18-hole course in time for use at the event. Regardless, they will host the final 9 which will be partly on their mountainside golf course. Since it will be their offseason, we are receiving excellent one week rates in their ski chalets which can handle up to 600 players if necessary. To see their facilities and chalets, check out this site: www.skyegolf.net/catalogue/home1.html (http://www.skyegolf.net/catalogue/home1.html)
We don't have an official PW2007 website yet. However, much of the information regarding the courses, people and facilities will be the same as the 2006 Mid-Nationals. Visit that site at: www.midnationals.com (http://www.midnationals.com) for the lastest info on this year's event including an area map that shows how close everything will be located. Especially for our international entrants (and anyone else who wishes to use it), we plan to have a bus to shuttle players back and forth between Whitecap and the five hilltop courses. If you qualify for the Mid-Nationals, consider playing this year to get some early practice for PW2007.

Chuck,
I'm looking forward to MidNationals 2006 as well as PW07. Just curious as to what changes/improvements have taken place since 7/05. I know they had plans of adding a waterfall to a hole or two. I believe you said the artificial OB on HB Gold 16&17 was to be replaced with real hazards. The learning center was just an empty bldg last summer. Can you update us on the complex's progress?

Mar 05 2006, 02:11 PM
The primary focus this summer is on Camp DISCover U, the new disc sports camp for kids 8-17. That means the buildings near the campground are currently in the process of being completed from what you saw last year.
If you look at the updated course maps, you'll see some new and revised holes on Highbridge Gold and Granite Ridge from what you remember including HG 7 to 8 being combined to make the longest permanent hole in the world over 1300 feet. Some of the Woodland Greens holes are being bulldozed and seeded to make them a little less rough. Better landscaping on HG 16 & 17 are planned including a better view of the landing area from the 17 long tee. Cement pads for the Blueberry Red tees and possibly Granite Reds are planned.
We have a priority list of other improvements like the waterfalls but don't want to promise more at this point. How much additional can get done will depend on the weather this spring and whether heavy equipment can safely work on some areas without ripping them up. We'll probably play a few new or different pins this year at Mid-Nats just to mix it up. There's also a new Northern Flights Series coming along but no details yet.

Thanks for the reply.
I know 07 worlds are a ways off, but do they have any plans to expand parking or to pave any of the roads leading to and from the courses?
Parking space at Mid Natnls last year was scarce at times. I would imagine it may be a logistical nightmare if some expansion and upgrades weren't completed to accomodate the kind of traffic and parking needed to host a world championships, spectators, media etc.

Mar 05 2006, 03:41 PM
The driving range next to the house will become a huge parking area. The parking lot on top of the hill will be leveled and improved. There will also be parking all the way along the road bordering the Woodland Greens course which will become a one way road by WG#9 leading out of the complex down near the reservoir.

Formally approved by PDGA Board tonight. Thanks to Dave Gentry and Terry Miller who visited Highbridge during Mid-Nationals last week for a final review and report to the Board. Over $5000 sponsorship raised already. While much is happening toward this event, we'll hold off on more details until after the Pro Worlds in Augusta which should be great with Brian Graham at the helm.

I believe the plan is to have about 10 RV sites right at Highbridge by next year. If that doesn't happen, then Copper Falls State Park is only 5 miles away and has RV sites:
www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/land/parks/specific/copperfalls/camping/ (http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/land/parks/specific/copperfalls/camping/)
You can see where Copper Falls is located in reference to everything happening by looking at this area map on the PW2007 website: www.2007proworlds.com/pages/accommodations.html (http://www.2007proworlds.com/pages/accommodations.html)
You can see we've made some progress getting the site ready to go. I'll be updating a picture tour of four courses within the next week. We'll be bulldozing the fifth course in a few weeks so photos of that one (The Bear) will have to wait until next year.

Looks like I need to bump this thread more often so Jason didn't need to make a new one. The logo is now on the front page of the PDGA website linking to our official 2007 Pro Worlds site. Many of you may have seen the CFR Wraiths with the Worlds logo that were introduced at the USDGC Pro Shop. They'll soon be available from the Pro Worlds site and are already available at many retailers. We're working on a Crystal Buzz with another Worlds logo. The updated course tours are available from links on both the Pro Worlds site and the HHSC site. We already have six holes sponsored. More sponsorship details will be coming soon.

Just got back from Highbridge to work on The Bear design and get it marked for John to bulldoze fairways before winter really sets in. Looks like it will come in right around 8000 feet, almost all holes in the woods on a hillside with some great views. The GPS process has been invaluable for finding our way around and mapping the course layout and property. SSA is expected to end up about the same as the Hippodrome at the Augusta Worlds.

The Worlds website has been updated with some new info on the courses and schedule. The Bear course may take longer than desirable to play when fully loaded in a tournament and Woodland Greens at 4200 feet may be a little too easy as a Worlds course for some divisions. So, the plan is to blend the Woodland Greens and The Bear courses to create two hybrids that will be more suitable for Worlds. The "Woodland Bear" course will be holes 1-7 of The Bear course and 8-18 of Woodland to produce a 5400 ft layout with four par 4s and a par 5. If more than 400 players register (which would be a new PW record), then the other hybrid course, The Green Bear, will also be used which is 1-7 of Woodland and 8-18 of The Bear.
Also, Chris Woj has put together detailed hole-by-hole photo tours of Blueberry Hill and Woodland Greens if you click on their icons.

More updates on the site. Sponsorship information is here: www.2007proworlds.com/pages/sponsor.html (http://www.2007proworlds.com/pages/sponsor.html) We're going to see if a basket manufacturer would like to sponsor and run the putting competition to showcase their baskets.

As an alternative to staying at Whitecap in the Olympic Village, Bad River Casino has stepped up with a great rate of $59/night. That's where the Player Meeting, Banquet and FlyMart will be located. See map on the Accommodations page to see how every event site is located no more than 30 minutes from each other.
Invites should be posted in mid-February with online registration starting in mid-March. Waiting list starts March 1. Info for Pro Worlds Divisional Doubles, moving from Texas to Highbridge this year, will soon be added to this Pro Worlds website.
Three or four PDGA sanctioned Worlds Warmup events are being scheduled daily starting the weekend from June 30-July 3 to test all of the courses. In addition to practice time for the pros, it will give Ams the opportunity to check out the courses and the Highbridge facility. The Sunday, July 1 event will also be a B-tier as part of the Wisconsin tour.

Any ballpark figure on registration costs this year?
ck34
Jan 28 2007, 06:22 PM
Over $200 for singles plus optional fees for side events and banquet. World Doubles hasn't been set but I think it might be in the neighborhood of $75 per player. Food and lodging should run less than most years. Transportation should run about the same cost as "normal" but will take more time for some. Someone who registers for every event possible over all 8 days will end up in the $350 neighborhood.

Feb 15 2007, 03:39 PM
99.99%. Most Pro Worlds aren't even half full by then. The divisions closest to full by then are Master and GM depending on the planned field capacity, but still never full by then. Open is usually available right up until a week before the event.
DeanTannock

ck34
Feb 15 2007, 04:32 PM
Invite packets will not be sent until mid-March for Am or Pro Worlds. Those invited to Pro Worlds will be posted in the next 24-48 hours based on Gentry's post an hour ago. Am Worlds list is posted.
Most of the relevant info players will need has been on the Pro Worlds website for months now. I've been told that hotels, flights and cars have already been reserved by many planning to attend. The Whitecap chalets have been reserved but many rooms remain in the main lodge so you can be part of our Olympic village. www.2007proworlds.com/images/OlyVillage.pdf (http://www.2007proworlds.com/images/OlyVillage.pdf)
I suggest that those who don't get invited, still make reservations before they can officially register after May 15th so they can get the best deals. Registration prices and other details are still being worked out along with setting up online registration which will start sometime after March 15th. Apparently, there are special rates available for Am Worlds for flights on Frontier Airlines. I suspect you could get that deal and fly into Milwaukee to watch for a day then drive to Highbridge (over 5 hours) as one option.

No Waitlist this year. It's first come, first served for all current PDGA members after May 15th and we have more than sufficient capacity to handle the largest standalone Pro Worlds since the record set in 1999 at Rochester with 377.
Looks like 986 pros got invited. Considering our current pro membership has been around 2500, that means 2 of every 5 pros got invited. To reach our capacity of just under 400 players, we've got room for about 1 of every 7 pro members along with hopefully a few Ams coming up the road after Am Worlds.

We have created a Yahoo group so people have an easy way to find or share rides and rooms at Pro Worlds, or even find a doubles partner. Become a member of this Yahoo group and visit the Database to list whether you are looking for a ride, room or doubles partner. Or list if you have a room or ride to share. Hopefully, this will help players coordinate flights and link up at the Twin Cities airport to share a rental car to and from Highbridge.

A friend and I are thinking about going to watch the Pro Worlds this year, but I don't want to drive all that way unless we can play the courses.
How soon after the tournament will the courses be open to the public? And until when before?
ck34
Mar 21 2007, 04:25 PM
The courses will be open for play every day once the afternoon round is done on each course which will occur somewhere between 4 and 5:30 depending on the course. It doesn't get dark until 9ish that time of year so getting at least one round in each day should be no problem. Check the latest schedule posted on the website.
And they'll still be open to the public during the identified practice periods before the event. Granite Rdige and the Woodland Bear will be open about Noon on Sunday of the Finals with Blueberry and Gold being tied up until the Finals are over in the late afternoon.

It will still be pay-for-play during that time period. Tournament players play free during the competition week from Sunday thru Sunday. Greens fee rates are reduced at least 50% for competitors who come earlier than Sunday, July 29th to practice and for those traveling with them. Regular daily fees are $5/round or $8 all you can play on weekdays and $10 all day on weekends. Even at full rates, you'll never be disappointed with the course experience at Highbridge.
ck34
Apr 27 2007, 01:17 PM
The registration update shows 42 players registered so far. On the other hand, Whitecap, Bad River and camping reservations indicate over 200 have made plans to attend. Whitecap is almost sold out but we are working on the possibility of a dozen more rooms there and are working out arrangements with another nearby motel.
Remember that those who got invited have until May 15th to register before we open up registration to any current PDGA member. Many of them have their lodging reservations pinned down so they're ready for mid-May registration as soon as they can.
Our core Worlds team is heading to Highbridge next weekend now that the weather is cooperating and we can go full speed ahead on plans and course preparation.

Accommodations update: Many have contacted Whitecap and have heard they were full. That's not the case. There are still 15 rooms available at the lodge. However, they are only available from July 30-Aug 5 at the moment. They have temporarily reserved these rooms for another event on July 27-29. It's possible by June 1 that these rooms will be available to disc golfers on these dates also if people from the other event do not make their reservations.
In the mean time, if you want to be part of our Olympic Village, reserve a room from July 30-Aug 5. If you plan to be there for a few days before theses dates to practice and/or play doubles, consider reserving a room 10 minutes away at the Days Inn in Hurley for these few early days for about $70/night. Phone: 715-561-3500 (mention disc golf). Maybe you'll be able to switch over to Whitecap for those few days if some rooms open up several weeks before Worlds. Actually, the Days Inn is becoming a sponsor for the event and is a nice place to stay for the whole event. It's just 10 minutes farther to the courses and the Bad River Casino than Whitecap. But it's closer to restaurants, night life and retail areas in Ironwood.
Some additional places to handle up to 30 more players at Whitecap are also about to become available. Check here or the website for more info on that in the next week or so.
does anyone know if there is a site or link that people can use to find a doubles partner for the worlds. i am looking. i'll have a rating of around 977 at the time of the worlds once it's adjusted in June. if anyone is interested, you can contact me at riefscott@yahoo.com

Hey Chuck,
For the Pro Worlds Warm Up will the Advanced Division play the SAME courses and layout as the Pros??
ck34
Jun 01 2007, 09:01 AM
That's the plan. Advanced will play the same layout as pros. We don't have cement on our Blueberry and Granite short tees yet. Some Am divisions and all women will play the cement white tees on the days we play Highbridge Gold because that's what the pro women and Sr. Grands will play at Worlds. Everyone will play the HG white tees on the Monday C-tier.

Chuck,
Will the restaurant at Whitecap be open at any time during Worlds?
ck34
Jun 01 2007, 10:09 AM
Apparently not like a restaurant. They are offering a breakfast buffet for $5 each morning if you buy the tickets in advance ($7 on the spot). But I don't think they are staffing the restaurant the rest of the day. They're concerned that so many people will be gone during the day at Highbridge and for our evening events that there won't be enough business except breakfast. Plus many people will have refrig and microwave in their lodging. Now that we're filling the place though, they are rethinking a few things and we might have more from them than currently expected like maybe even an 18-hole layout on the grounds instead of just their current 9.

maybe even an 18-hole layout on the grounds instead of just their current 9.
When I stayed there last summer, I imagined how fun it would be to watch the worlds's finest players go through the 9-hole course that traverses the "Bunny Bowl".
Anyone staying at Whitecap, or just visiting, owes it to themself to see, or even play, the 18-hole ball golf course above the Chalets. It's well worth the hike up there. It's a beautiful course, and you can even see Lake Superior.
Thanks for the food information.

Update on lodging options for Pro Worlds. All of the regular home chalets have now been reserved. However, the giant 20-room chalet called Davos is now available for reservations. You can get a room with either queen or two singles for $300/week plus $70 for extra days. Check the Accommodations page of the PW website for more info.
http://www.2007proworlds.com/pages/accommodations.html
In addition, the Days Inn in Hurley, just 10 min from Whitecap is now providing a special rate of $55/night for up to 4. It's 10 minutes more to the courses but you're the same distance from the Casino meetings and closer to restaurants and other retail establishments. Internet access is available in the rooms.

Here's a new twist we're thinking about for Pro Worlds this year that borrows a page from ball golf. In ball golf events, you play with the same group for the first two out of four rounds.
Open and Masters are the only divisions that play two rounds on the first day of the event. Just like ball golf, we're looking at keeping the same groups together in the morning and afternoon of the first day only. The only change would be that your group would start on a hole number that's 9 different from your morning round. If your group starts on hole 14 in the morning, they start on hole 5 in the afternoon on your next course.
We're thinking this would make things run smoother the first day. Players would know before the day starts exactly where to be all day, at what time, and not have to worry about checking back into HQ and see where they are for the second round. With six rounds in the prelims anyway, the top players will see more than enough of each other even if they don't see each other until the second day. The other divisions only play one round the first day and would be sorted by score as usual before their next round the following day.

Figured I would ask since it's been a nasty weather day up there, what are the plans in case of a lightning or hail storm? Is there a preliminary warning system? Where can people go that are out on the courses? Does everyone head to their cars?
ck34
Jun 08 2007, 07:03 PM
There's no central area to go that can handle all players so players will need to go to their cars if a weather delay looks to be long. John hopes to build some smaller shelters around the course for quick shelter.
If we can afford it, our really cool plan is to set up a low power FM transmitter and broadcast updates to players in the event players scatter to cars during a storm. We would provide FM radios from the Dollar Store in the player packs. I'd like to do this but it will be one of the last things we do in July if we have the time and budget.
John will be using his real shotgun for starts and weather halts so players will be able to hear the signals.

I repectfully do not like the idea.

Jun 08 2007, 07:49 PM
You really haven't earned anything since it's you against the course not against anyone else in your group. I think ball golf recognizes that and it's one reason they keep groupings together for half the tournament regardless of score. You're also still in your pool for three rounds before the shuffle before players of similar scores are eventually together. Since you haven't played all three courses yet, who's to say the guy you beat the first round won't whip you next round on a different course more his style? The true test is your score for all three rounds which sorts players into preliminary order. The next three rounds on the same courses shows how you fare against those who have demonstrated similar skills to make it into the semis.

Jun 08 2007, 08:08 PM
I realize changing a long standing tradition is going to upset some people. But I also know that players in events with more than four rounds get tired of playing with the same people both at the top and the bottom where there's not much movement between groups after two or three rounds. That's especially true for top players on tour who see the same guys after one round week after week.
It just seemed that it would make the first day more relaxing for both players and staff when people are still trying to find their way around a new place with unfamiliar courses. Many players are uptight enough as it is about their tournament routines and the more they know ahead of time for planning, the less stressful and more enjoyable their experience can be.
I'm also leaning toward recommending to Gentry that the Open pools NOT be seeded by ratings this year since weather will be a minimal factor with courses on the same hill and both pools playing the same courses but flip flopped morning and afternoon. We're solid with our course pars so the over/under posted online will allow round by round comparisons of relative positions overall in the two pools.
davei
Jun 08 2007, 08:21 PM
While I'm fine with any way you want to do it. It seems illogical to keep the same group to meet more people. Also, the traditional way to do things has never had my vote. It never made sense to me to not play a morning and afternoon round on the same course before traveling to a new course. It cuts down on the travel, allows revenge on a course that might have had its way with you, and gives you morning and afternoon conditions on one course. Highbridge probably doesn't have a traveling problem, but I am just referring to "tradition".
ck34
Jun 08 2007, 08:35 PM
It's not really a strategy to meet/play with more people, but to not end up with the same people later for as long of a time by delaying it one round. And that's only one reason anyway. There's lots going on to run the event and one less detail like quickly turning around scores and shuffling cards at lunch time is one less crunch time that can be avoided, especially if there are delays from weather, for example. Most players can get away for a relaxing lunch and not even have to come back to HQ before going to their tee for round 2.
I agree with the playing the same course twice in the same day when possible if travel between courses is a hassle. However, it doesn't work well when a division has more than one pool. We are doing the double round a day more often for single pool divisions where appropriate.

Four different courses will be played. Each division plays three out of four. Woodland Bear is the combo of seven new Bear holes with the last eleven Woodland holes.
So, we're assured 11 rounds on 3 courses - assuming no Sunday play?
ck34
Jun 11 2007, 09:18 AM
You get two rounds in mixed doubles, three in regular doubles and six in singles prelims. That would be eleven if that's how you're counting. Then, one 18-hole semi and Final 9 if you make it.
MTL21676
Jun 11 2007, 10:02 AM
speaking of the doubles, what is the format for the three rounds and at which courses do you play each format?
ck34
Jun 11 2007, 10:17 AM
That's Houck's question and he's been quiet so far. Players will play the three courses their division plays in singles and the posted schedule shows the tentative order they will be played. The only reason that schedule might change slightly is if we don't get enough teams entered and we consolidate so that only two courses would be active at one time rather than three as currently planned. We want to make sure those not playing doubles can get on the courses for practice when possible.
I'll check with Houck and see if he wants to specify the formats now and the sequence to be played. Then, the only reason you might not play that format on a course is if we need to consolidate, which will be known July 25th.

We hit 175 in today's registration update. Even with the traditionally slower pace Pros take to register than Ams, we're on track for more than the 300 players at Augusta with 6 more updates to go. Eight players from Japan including three women will be added in one of the next updates. They're doing a qualifying event this weekend to earn their trips.
The Sr. GM group has now matched their record year in 2006 of 19 attendees. Just get Duster and Monroe to register and you're over 20 for the first time. Legends field has already matched last year and the GM Women are up to 5 from 3. The younger women division entries haven't caught up yet so hopefully they're still just getting their plans together.
We have added a few lodging options to handle more players. Check the updated Accommodations web page for the info. We've added a player reception party to the schedule which will be either Sunday or Monday evening after doubles. Those of you flying then renting a car, consider renting from Enterprise, one of our PDGA national sponsors. Their special code is shown on the website Travel page.

Woo-hoo! 225 players (57% capacity) have registered, including players from Finland, Japan, New Zealand and Sweden. I predict that there will be a late push (possibly golfers who decide to play after Am Worlds) and the final number will be closer to 300. Sunday will be primetime for spectating the Open Men and Women fields for both semis and Finals. Open is on Granite Ridge in the semis with wide open fairways and elevation on most holes and some key spots where you can watch the action on several holes. The women play semis on Highbridge Gold, the second most open course. The Final 9 routing is a big circle around an open field so spectators don't even need to cross a fairway to watch the action as it moves from hole-to-hole. You can watch a half dozen holes with binocs by staying in one position. All week long, Open does not play the most wooded course of the four so it will be relatively easy to watch them most rounds.

Make sure your umbrella can handle wind because we have maybe half a dozen days a month with winds over 25mph. I'm actually hoping for some decent wind during the Finals which will make things more exciting in the divisions where there's still a fight to the end. The Final hole (Blueberry 2), at 370 downhill onto an elevated ball golf tee pad bordered by boulders, is notorious for scoring swings.

You'll be getting details by email tomorrow. We'll have the player confirm packs posted and ready to go. Here's the info on Doubles. It's possible that the course order for some divisions will change from the current posted schedule once we get the final team counts. We want to reduce the number of rounds when three courses are tied up for doubles where possible so those not playing doubles can practice the other courses. We will take doubles entries up until and including Sunday, July 29.
The planned format for World Championship Divisional Doubles includes 18 holes of Best Shot on Monday morning and 18 holes of Refined Alternating Pairs (RAP) in the afternoon. The final round on Tuesday morning will be 6 holes each of Best Shot, Best Disc and Tough Shot. Tough Shot will be played on the easiest 6 holes of your course. Best Disc is where each partner plays singles and the team gets the best score of the two on each hole.
Refined Alternating Pairs is where both partners tee off then each plays their second shot from their partners drive. If the team hasnt holed out yet, they decide which of their two lies they want to continue with alternating shots until holing out. In other words, the worst of your team's lies is abandoned and play continues with the next person to throw being the person who didn't throw to the lie chosen. Then, alternate players until the team holes out. Tough Shot is where the other team in the group decides which of your two shots is worst after each throw until the team holes out. In Tough Shot, once either player on the team holes out, the hole is over.

Hi, my name is Cory Sharp. I am flying into Minneapolis on the 29th and I arrive at 12:10 pm. I got a little mixed up in planning my trip as I was supposed to fly into Duluth to meet the people I am staying with. As of right now I have no way of getting to either Duluth or Highbridge and I am looking for someone to maybe give me a lift from Minneapolis to Highbridge... I would greatly appreciate it and would be glad to help pay in some way... with a tank of gas or something... If anyone can help that would be awesome! Thanks.

Chuck -- does anyone wishing to take part in the distance competition have to be there Sunday? (i am trying to figure out if when the schedule says "Distance - second session" that means for those who didn't make the 1st session or if it is like a finals you have to qualify for by being there Sunday...

You can throw prelims on Sunday or Tuesday based on your schedule and how the wind is looking. You can qualify for Finals all the way up to 5pm on Tuesday.

chuck's prob gotcha handled on this or you've seen it by now but this was posted a ways back...
We're getting several players interested in getting a ride from the Twin Cities airport to Highbridge on the days before Worlds. We have a Room & Ride share site on Yahoo: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PW07RoomRide
However, most of those posting are looking for rooms and rides but don't have them to offer. If you would be willing to transport players to Highbridge in your rental car, who are arriving at the Twin Cities airport near the time you do, please enter the Yahoo site or contact me directly with what time a player must arrive at the airport to coordinate with your flight times to share a ride (and expenses) and how many you would be willing to take. Thanks.

We're now at 262, just 38 players short of the last few years but with one week to go. You know who you are. :) Please get your registrations handled soon. NEXT TUESDAY, JULY 24th IS THE DEADLINE.
Courses are set for action with final mowing, trimming and beautification efforts underway. Most of the top 20 players and returning champs are entered to defend their titles. We have 28 players from outside the U.S., almost double the number attending the past four Pro Worlds. It may be a little longer to travel to Highbridge in the U.S. than some previous Worlds locations, but certainly not as far as our international players have to travel, especially from New Zealand. Props to the Kiwis and our other international players for making the big trek to see the largest disc golf facility in the world.

Not only are flights ridiculously cheaper than Minneapolis (1/2), but car rentals are also approximately 1/2 of Minneapolis.

We deal with it all the time here with Northwest Airlines having such a big footprint (monopoly) at the airport. With Midwest Airlines based out of Milwaukee apparently fighting a hostile takeover from Air Trans, that may be lowering fares from/to Milwaukee lately. It costs you about 2 more hours of driving to Highbridge from Milwaukee than Minneapolis.

Convenience store 7 minutes away in Marengo. Small grocery store in Mellen 10 minutes away. Standard grocery store in Ashland 25 minutes away.
Look up restaurants in the online phone directory for Ashland or Hurley, WI plus Ironwood, MI to see what's available. In addition, the Loding Zone, Penokee Deli and the Steakhouse are within 10 minutes.

No water on Woodland Bear which Open doesn't play anyway. Blueberry has water on 13 near the pin which is more of a risk if you try to drive the hole rather than do it in two shots. Granite has water on 7 & 9 that you have to play around or over on the drive from an elevated position. Granite hole 16 is do or die over a small marsh from 300 to 350 on a 450 downhill hole. However, water levels are down everywhere in this part of the country so retrieving a disc isn't too tough in most of the Highbridge marshes.
Water primarily comes into play on Gold 16 with the artificial moat around the island. If John can get enough water there, we hope to have 12" to 24" in there for aesthetics but it should be easy to get your disc. Hole 18 has three small artificial ponds around the pin that are pretty shallow and still need to be filled since they're dry right now.
As mentioned above, water OB is only part of the mix of OB at Highbridge which has sand and road OB hazards. But I figured your concern was more about OB that might cost a disc versus non-water OB. I'd say the odds of losing one disc in the woods is a bit higher than losing one in the water over a week's time there.

I had to read it three times to figure it out.
It's the clause in the middle that is throwing everyone, it's verb gets in the way of the verb for "holes". You should have started out with "On the courses Open will play, ..."

Registration was just updated and we're at 285 with five days to go. DEADLINE IS TUESDAY, JULY 24th. Doubles and Mixed were also updated. We are capping doubles so get your registrations in soon because some divisions are close to max. Kenny Lee and Mark Ellis are listed without partners in GM and Keith Johnson in Master.
Total teams allowed for MPO plus MPG is now 38 because we have changed the course order for doubles so we only tie up two courses instead of three. This will allow non-doubles players two courses to practice while doubles is underway instead of just one. The revised doubles schedule in version 2-7 will be available for download from the PW website later tonight.

It was 57 this morning in Minneapolis so the seasonal swings are starting to sneak in now. Highbridge is usually a few degrees warmer and a little drier than whatever the weather is for Ashland, WI which is the closest weather reporting station you can check for forecasts.

Except the normals for Highbridge in August are slightly cooler than a month earlier when Mid-Nats has been since the days are getting shorter. I'm pretty sure we won't have 115 heat index like PW2001 for a few days.
Here's the one month temperature forecast that shows normal expectation for August in Highbridge:

Just a reminder for those who are heading to Highbridge early to practice next week. This note is from the invite letter. The courses are now groomed the best they've ever been and these special rates are well worth it even when Worlds is not in town:
"While HHSC relies on a greens fees system for income to meet ongoing costs, the PDGA has made separate special arrangements with HHSC that will cover all Pro Worlds event players from Sunday July 29, through Saturday August 5 in terms of use of the facility. For players coming early to practice, John is offering greens fees discounted 50% or more off the standard all day play rates of $8/weekday and $10/weekend day. It will be just $5 for a one day pass, $10 for a 3-day pass or $25 for the 7 days starting Sunday, July 22nd. Family and friends traveling with a registered player and other PDGA members will also get these rates from July 22nd through August 5th."
So, your entry fee provides free play starting next Sunday, July 29. For any play before that decide whether you need buy a daily, 3-day or full week ticket.

Next update will be tomorrow at the earliest. Not sure whether Dave will have an update based on online reg tomorrow then a final reg with mail-ins on Thursday or just wait until Thursday since Dave is at Am Worlds.
If all gets done as planned, we will have benches on each hole with nice tee signs by the time the first shotgun is fired.
Doubles may be capped for Open and GM by now but I won't know until I get the reg list. However, since Breiner is handling registrations, he likely would not have accepted any doubles entries unless room was still available because he built the caps into the online program. So, if your online reg for doubles went thru, you should be good to go.

Let's hope that no actual shotguns are fired. :D

Chuck,
I registered online last friday, but I don't see myself on the list. Am I in?

I can't tell you since the TDs are the last to know for both Worlds. You have to contact the PDGA on any registration issues for getting in or getting out. I did talk to Breiner briefly and he figures we've got about 30 more that will have registered by tomorrow's deadline but still enough room for everyone. If you registered online and your credit card went thru, you're in. Otherwise, Breiner would ahve contacted you if any trouble on payment.
Hosfeld, Val, Avery and Dave just finished practicing their first course this afternoon. They'll practice tomorrow before heading to Japan and coming back Monday. Talk about jet lag!

For real, that's how our rounds are started here. John's got his shells all stocked up and ready for action next week. :D
