Based on my 12 vote popularity, I feel that even though I cannot vote, it is now my duty to show up at the meetings and be a BACKSEAT ADMIN. :o
I have a masters degree in GRIPE that I got at OSU. It is now time for me to put that to work and gripe about things that I personally have no active involvement in and share no responsibilty on the outcome. :)
I will show up late, eat and drink all the freebies I can, and leave at the earliest moment without listening to anybody elses point of view. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Please annouce your TDSA plans as soon as possible so I may prove my worthiness to my 12 deciples who have silently chosen me to stand at the gate and let no BS pass though. ;)

You barely had enough active members there to make it official so you shouldn't brag. John Green wants to know why he didn't get a absentee ballot. You would think that a life time member whose brought a lot of love and good times to the sport would be treated a little better.
As for the band, you need to show up for practice somewhere else besides your little payed guitar lesson guru. If all you are learning is lead guitar then you're going to have a hard time finding someone to follow you. There will probably be a real stage at Chandlerstock next year and I'll make sure to get the chicken wire ready for your appearance. :D

Is there anybody in the TDSA besides me that thinks the new $10 non-member fee is going to affect sanctioned tournament turnout in a negative way?
twoputtok
Nov 08 2007, 11:42 AM
I don't.
Most organizations require membership before any competition and a $10 temp memebrship is still way cheaper than an annual membership.
twoputtok
Nov 08 2007, 11:50 AM
And the ones paying the temp fee are the same ones year after year that are too cheap to get a membership.
They want all of the benefits of a member at a tournament but don't want to pay for it.
So, with that $10 is more than fair. ;)
sschumacher
Nov 08 2007, 11:53 AM
Well maybe it will encourage non-members to sign up thru the TDSA mass mailing and receive a $5 discount. If you play 4 Am events in one year you're getting your money back.
I imagine there will be some hard-core people that might not play because of it though. It kind of makes it hard to offer a cheap entry fee.

Darn it Wayne.... Why do you always show up and ruin everything when I'm trying to mis-lead the masses. :D
I think you're right. Right now I think it's just "Fur-say" which doesn't account for much. It wouldn't bother anybody who can post on the board because if you can then you're already a member. To me, Am membership minus the $5 TDSA benifit is a good deal. I think I might even take the free official's test this time around so I can make the calls at the plate and bark instructions for those that are in need.
I know there was a thread somewhere on the subject and I know that Evan in Arkansas felt like it was going to reduce turnout at some of the events. I think if they do it they should do it for the "B" tiers only and leave the "C" tiers the same.

imo, it hurts the recthusiast in my area, then again we're not attracting many of our local casual players to our larger events, ie makes the $20-$30 rec/intermediate divisions more expensive
another concern (imo) is attracting Little Rock and area's east of Ft. Smith which are predominately SN series players, Little Rock is hosting the Pro SN Series Championships on Labor Day weekend in '08 and many of our players want to support that as well as the points drive this coming year for Kansas City World's in '09
If it weren't for Okies our events wouldn't be having the attendance that we do have and more than likely will continue to PDGA & SN Series Sanction, whatever it takes to attract players and have quality events
imo TDSA is well established and the non-member fee increase probably won't effect Okie events but may slow some growth in other developing areas
these are just my personal opinions and I do not intend to come across as bashing the pdga, it's more of a regional issue for the Arkie area and it's hard to see the big picture until the sanctioning agreements come out next week

REGISTER!!!
Pay your dues...
Give something back...
Get a rating...
Get with the program officially or PAY the consequences....
People who are "active" in the TDSA and who are notorious non-members (such as the aforementioned snakeskin) are fools if they do not register and frequently play sanctioned events...
For those who play one or two events a year......what is the difference in 10 bucks?
This will have an effect on the true recreational players who come strolling through the park right at the end of sign-ups and start with... "are you guys having a tournament?"
Yes we are having a tournament...Club members and PDGA members are all here competing on a level playing field that is regulated by a ratings system and a set rulebook. Members have donated their time and energy to putting this event together and if you want to play....you who bring nothing to the table except a late sign-up .....you will have to pay....
This will not be a big deal, and if it is........WE CHANGE IT!
KeithC
Nov 08 2007, 09:40 PM
ten bucks does make it a bigger deal. it used to bother me when i paid five extra. either way...it should get more people to join up. it is actually a really good move by the pdga from a growth standpoint.

It would be a good move from the PDGA if they had not Jacked the membership price so high for the low rank players and lowering the age for the junior price. While Pro memberships which could be higher (especially for sponsored touring Pros) players in the divisions below advanced should be given a price break to encourage them to get on board and get involved. (this would not effect me since i am playing an advanced division)
True recognition of our sport will come in part from official paid membership rolls (when we can show potential sponsors that we are large in number) then we acquire more leverage in the marketplace. Look at youth soccer, they have many thousands more players registered than we do and they get no respect so why do we think we will at the small numbers that we boost?

I don't regret renewing my PDGA membership but it will be the last time I do it or any thing else through the local club. :p
When a member in good standing shows up to an Administrator meeting and asks a direct question of an Administrator and is refused an answer to the question it tends to appear as a dictatorship and not a club of voting members. And when the Administrators who were elected by the membership have a vote on a proposal that is over ruled by one person then it IS a dictatorship.
Is that what you as a member voted for?
As a club member, I know its not what I voted for.
Hmmm..............

No "break-in's" that I know of so unless a "deep throat" appears I imagine the "cover-up" will continue and all chances for a book or movie deal on the subject are off. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

If you questioned him then why didn't he answer? if you ask someone a question and they don't answer....that is straight up disrespectful...and not considering the votes of other admins makes the whole yearly voting process a joke and a waste of the admins time.
i am bad about staying current on my dues so i have no room to talk...but even it i was a current member it would seem like a waste of time to join up to a club where nobody has an opinion but one person. That is a general truth regardless of how much i like and appreciate the leaders of this club.
And Aaron....what is Team Green Country?
Why even ask the question man? Obviously Aaron wants to start a competing club to the TDSA. Good idea Aaron. A PLAYERS CLUB is what it is all about...

I agree little Red but the club might want to do a little more about getting info out to its members.
Right now the only way to find out whats going on in the club is for each individual member to inquire. And whats going on differs from one Admin to another and each one will put their own personal spin on it. A club news letter would be nice.
Since putting everything on the board is not a good idea, and Im not talking about this current thing, a news letter that could be handed out to current members at minis would be nice and the club wouldnt have to spend money on stamps.
The club should reasonably be able to offer some insight as to what is going on and what direction the admins and club are moving in.
Simple things like the following:
General financial report. (Some people want to know where the money is going)
Attendance (Whos showing up and who is not) That would be a nice thing since all admins are elected by the general membership. If youre an admin and you only show up to one or two meetings out of twelve a year then you are not informed and you are not voicing your opinion. You are more or less letting the GOP run it for you and you are dising the people that voted for you in the first place. :p
New business: What new ideas are being floated around and which ones are being pursued and which ones are being shelved.
The news letter doesnt have to be every month and maybe the club could create its own official thread for official statements that you guys all agree within the meetings and could be released for public viewing. Surely there are some things that dont always need to be kept behind closed doors.
I post my mini results because John Green, (whom I still respect) did it before me. Yep it takes a little time to do it but its no big deal and it provides a record of how many players I had and how much money is collected for the club. It also shows a pattern of who the baggers are. :o
The TDSA is fine and we dont need a new club created. We just need to follow the rules we create for ourselves so as to avoid in house conflicts such as this.
Besides, we already have another club in town.
It's called the "Tulsa Short Arm Disc Sports Association".
I am the president and you are not allowed in. :D...If you want a club of your own then go ahead and create one and you can call it the "I Love Lucy Dead Red Head Association". ;)

A newsletter has already been talked about...
I was having trouble thinking of a column to contribute.....but thanks for fixing that furdog...
I will give a select digest type thing of any big issues being discussed by the board. Not to bore everyone with every little vote, but you are right, the information needs to be available without having to go to the Admin meetings...which, are not able to accommodate the entire club should they all decide to attend....
Jose and others have been talking Newsletter, and this is probably just the sort of thing to get it off the ground.

OK, sorry to be stupid but since golf is usually an individual effort type of sport what has "Team" got to do with it? Are you guys like NASCAR where one of you takes out somebody in an event so a team mate has a better shot at winning or do you stagger your places out behind the leader card and run interference against the field?
I get baseball team, football team, basketball team, even bowling team, but TEAM in things like golf, horse shoes, NASCAR, Disc Golf, hopscotch, jacks? How do you team that?

Ok then. If it's a team then is disc golf talent required? :(
Disc Golf talent is optional. However, you will need some talent in other areas such as; ability to handle a beer bong and to encourage, respect and listen to your fellow team members.

Oh...right, and I hope everyone on Team Swygert is very successful...
Your not making/keeping any friends with this type of remark.
You must be "taking this message board too seriously".
I should not have to filter what I think to keep a friend...
A friend should know the quality of the person, or at least his principals and intentions....
When one of my friends says something I disagree with regarding the club I don't scratch them off some imaginary list of my "in group"...that is what shallow people do. What kind of person are you?
I like you Mike and I would stick up for you and stand by you as a friend just like so many other golfers....and I am sorry if I have offended anyone...but one of my points coming into office was that I would speak my mind...and I am trying to do the best job I can for the Club...and when Aaron posted about this thing it right after we had had a big meeting with a lot of happenings I saw it as an attempt to try and hit the club while we "are down". Aaron was one of the first people I met in this club and he has always made me feel accepted and respected. And I always felt the same about him...and even though we had a harsh pm thing I still like Aaron and really value his opinion...that sounds bottled but it's true...
I, like you, think about the club a lot...I think about our future and keeping our reputation and building on what others have slaved for....that is all I am trying to do.
I really mean it, as long as this team thing is not anti-club (and Aaron has already said its not) then it is a cool idea and I thought it would really be a great communication tool to get a good mixed player perspective on things...
I meant no disrespect, I was [censored] off but come on, you guys know I am not trying to bash you personally...I was just nervous about the club........

It was a positive vote...Gary Nail (Another person who probably did not listen to what I said) probably also did not understand what I was proposing...

It is difficult in today's NFL to win as a one dimensional team, :( your opponents must fear the run and have more than one receiver to cover  otherwise the quarter back will spend all game running for his life and looking up at the sky from his back :o and the pass rushers will not have anything better to do than tee off on him. :DIf Jerry Jones wants to win another Super bowl he will need to field a running attack that will make blitzes unprofitable and field at lest 2 receivers per snap that must be covered. (more than 2 would be better still)

I think you're confusing that with the time Tuffy accidentally sat on your head. ;)

I would take Standingbear and the Chandler park crew over ANY city crew you can come up with Mr. Zooc. For one thing, the county doesn't DOUBLE BOOK a shelter like the city did to Wayne last weekend.....That was a real classy city thing to do. :p

Yeah Mike that's right. Basically all that happened was a little horseplay between an up and coming pony and a mare with one hoof in the glue factory and thinks she's a stud.
Horseplay in the gallery of an NT event between two touchy feely TDSA members that should know better. The young guy doesn't know when to stop and the old guy thinks it's his job to make an example of him by slamming him to the ground and breaking his glasses. Accidentally though just the same. You see it on Animal Planet all the time but usually it's over a female. :o;)

Did you see how LaGrassa called you out on the "Other PDGA Topics" thread, announcing your "borderline personal attack" & "official warning" to the world (with a self-congratulatory tone as if he had just captured Osama Bin Laden), only to remove the post like 3 minutes later? Priceless moderating!

Well Twoputt sent me a PM and told me he was going to report it so I'm not surprised. The PDGA is going to do what they feel they have to do. Looks like Im headed for probation. :(......Ninety days on the chain gang boy.
I like the fact they considered it borderline though. I just hope they spell my name right.
What I said was true with some comic relief to make it a good read.
Its always going to be a friend that stabs you in the back though. I guess thats better than just walking out of the woods and sucker punching me though.
I dont have another big tourney to run for another 11 months. I was thinking about PDGA sanctioning but they are out for sure now.

I missed the action, but what I can put together, sounds like a young buck feeling frisky butted an old buck and found out old buck can still rut, end of story. In my day that was like a rite of passage, today people make a big deal out of it. Too bad!

Priceless moderating!
No, it's called 'haste makes waste' and what can happen when you rush to do something at work before the boss gets back. We archive everything in the hidden Deleted Posts section of the PDGA DISCussion Board and the post was mistakenly placed in the Other PDGA Topics forum by accident. The post was there less than two minutes before the mistake was realized and the post was moved to its proper location. My apologies.

Well can I at least get a copy to post on my refrigerator? That was some of my best stuff and if youre going to consider that a personal attack then you need to post it as such. "Borderline" seems to infer that it could have gone either way which IMO might have led to an acquittal if I had a jury of my peers.
How long before my name shows up? Make sure you spell it right or I might consider that a personal attack. And dont expect me to volunteer for anymore PDGA events now that I've got a criminal record and I can no longer run for President. :(
Its not so much the probation being a big deal. Its the fact that my supposedly best friend was the one who turned me in.
Remind me not to invite him to my funeral. :p

But I'm wrong!!! I got confirmation this morning that I am ineligible for Major Amateur events....BUMMER!! I was going to hit up AM nationals, oh well.
Here is my confirmation;
Mike,
Our records had not been updated to indicate that you had accepted
cash. I
have updated them and also switched you to show as a Pro member instead
of
Am. Unfortunately you are ineligible to play in this event as it is a
Major. You may play in Am events that are A Tier or below.
Any additional questions please let me know.
Until next time - keep discn!

BTW, I didn't know you could throw a roller like the one you threw the second round on # 13. You ran that through tall clover and everything. Doc and I both just sat there and said "WoW"!!!! :D

Thanks, Furdog! If the grass was cut a little more it would have been a real screamer.
I am going to apply for amateur reinstatement so I can play Kansas City worlds as an amateur next year. Hopefully Dave Gentry will grant it to me.
