How can you tell that the one's already posted aren't official? Is it the lack of points or that you can see round rating still? Just curious.

Jan 30 2006, 06:22 PM
It's the "Unofficial Results" wording under the tourney name. :D
Otherwise you got it right Lance. When it goes Official, it will say "Official Results," the round ratings disappear, and points appear (there and in the players' profiles). When ratings are updated (in Feb), round ratings reappear and a nifty link to the Course Statistics appear, showing the SSA's for the course.

Lots of low tags today.....quality not quanitity.....
It has been along time since The thought of forming a Club in Corpus came into play .I am not saying anything bad about Badga Nor any one in it .There are very Very Few who remeber what it was like Then with Nothing going on ever .
I Have had to Move to the Valley for Money reasons and things are working out really Good for me .I miss bieng a part of all that is happening in Corpus .But having Said that I also am So proud to see everybody step up and become a part of the growth in Corpus .I think you will see that it takes alot of people bieng on the same page to get anything accomplished .
I would like to take this time to say A special thanks to Ryan Sawyer ,Mike Smith ,Erron (Twisted Brother ) Salazar For taking the Bull By the horns and getting this Basket deal done .You Guys are awesome and I know that Third Coast is in good Hands .
I am still planning on running the Shule School ,Clash ,And the South Texas Am Shootout .With the help of the Club of Course .

Horrible tail wind..
4red. Drive about 60 feet short.
for 2. Ran the putt to about 20 feet past.
for 3. Doinked the basket. Putter stood up rolled to the base of the hill.
for 4. threw a monster side arm under the basket. It stood up and rolled backwards OB by the parking area.
for 6. Side arm monster again. Sat down about 30 feet out.
for 7. laid up.
for 8. drop in putt.
At least I was able to laugh about it and beat my playing partner by 3 strokes in the end.

Basically, it's a huge step in our favor. As of now, we have 5 local busineses interested in sponsoring a hole. The next step is to find the last 4 sponsors, acquire money and present our idea to the City Council. With the support of Tom and the Board, the course is all but in. Basket update!!! Just to let eveyone know, the city told me on 2/17/06, that they had ordered the baskets. I checked with the big companies and they have not been ordered. City finally called me back and it seems they had a local guy make a basket and I have to go look at it tomorrow!?!? They say it is just like the ones out there DISCatchers. Any time you deal with the city, they are looking at low bids, so they are trying to talk me into Lightning DB5 baskets, cause they are so cheap, EXACTLY!!! Thats okay, we can do it. I'll be softening the ground a couple of days before. Bring shovels and pick axes. As a club, we are still about $1100 short on being able to pay back the city in full for the new baskets coming for West Guth Park. We have leads on a couple of sponsors, but if you can think of anyone else here in CC who may like to contribute, let me know, or I can get you a sponser sheet which details us doing hole sponsorships at Lamar for $300 per hole. We plan on doing nice tee signs, at Lamar for now, with Guth to follow, that not only give thehole number and distance but it also thanks the sponser for making it happen. I have assured the city we will pay them back within eight weeks, so we will...

The current DB5 and the DB5 from two years ago are different products. They dip all five pieces now and its a very sturdy basket there is a disc golf basket comparison chart that gives it good ratings it think it was www.teepad.bigstep.com (http://www.teepad.bigstep.com) , so if money is an issue they are an option, I still dont think they last as long though. Get a hold of Steve Dufrane, he put baskets on his property and they cost half of what Chainstars and Mach V's cost...........

WELL..........
we got five sleeves in the ground, still have four to go. we only had three of us out there, but we were done by 3pm. Toby at Lone star lumber gave us the hook up on concrete, which was a huge help.
Looking at another work day on April 8th at noon. Seemed safe, we dont have many going to world dubs.....
As far as playable, Lamar should be in the ground on or near May 1st, new baskets at Guth also by may 1st. Tentatively we will have Waldron Park installed by June 1st.........
EXCITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lamar will be tougher by about 3 or 4 strokes and Waldron will be tougher than Lamar!!!

We just got creative with the new holes at Lamar. Lot more trees in the way, couple of left to right shots, Nine is the same long hole, YOU"LL SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Waldron Park is a brand new park as far as baskets go.... its not even on waldron road.... go down either flour bluff dr or Waldron rd., turn on glenoak, then turn on ST PETER, go about four blocks and there it is. Big park with a pond and lots of room, heavy shule for a couple of holes, hazard on 4 or 5 holes, water shots, you'll like it..........

Looks like a good site for a course...does the island come into play? That'd be sweet. As for Lamar, Google Earth splits it right down the middle too - blame it on USGS. With all these courses popping up, does anyone still play Billish Park? Will anyone come to Rockport once one is installed there?

Chris, is there going to be a trophy only option? PLEASE!!!! :D
ozdisc
May 23 2006, 08:18 PM
Sorry Erron that seems very unlikely for several reasons. You will either have to play Advanced or play Pro and turn down any cash. I understand you and a couple others are playing Am Worlds. You can play Pro (or Pro trophy only) at the A-tier in September I am running.
If everything works out with the sponsor ?? the entry fees will be a reasonable level anyway. Playing a trophy only option would save you only about $30. Just think of it as a mental challenge and not a financial one.
See you soon,
Chris

What are the several reasons?
& there's a 3rd option
ozdisc
May 23 2006, 09:13 PM
What is your other option?
I believe only large turnout A-tiers should have the trophy only option. There are already too many divisions now.
The reason for a trophy only option is to reduce the entry fee (A-tier) to encourage Am's to make the step up to experience playing with the top level pro's. This is not the case in B-tiers.
In a B-tier it is all about getting locals to play and participate in their own division subject to the ratings.
It is just bad timing that you want to play a Pro division when Am Worlds is just 2 weeks later but that is just unfortunate.
For all other reasons...I am the TD.
By the way there is no need to debate this to death. The ??? Coastal Clash will be a great event with hopefully lots of added money, players perks and lots more.
Thanks

Erron you asked me to have a trophy only option and I explained why I was not going to, its as simple as that. Whether the event is in Corpus or where ever and who ever plays that is the way I feel.
I know you and others were interested in Pro Trophy Only but I made a decision based on my experience for the betterment of the event and everyone else in it.
As I said it was just bad timing for you and the others that Am Worlds is 2 weeks later, nothing I can do about that, sorry.

Work day tomorrow at 10 am at Lamar. We need post hole diggers and shovels, we will be welding locking lip back on to five sleeves and trying to get dirt out of two of them??? We need a generator that pulls at least 5000 watts, ANYONE!!! call me if you do....947-2498

Chris, Do you know if you plan on using 21 holes at Guth this year? If so ryan & i both have portable chainstars and we have 1 extra permenant chainstar, we might be able to put a sleeve in somewhere for an alt. hole.

I would like to as I hope the turnout will be good. I have to make 2 phone calls to confirm a couple of details but we will have 2 very good corporate sponsors for the Clash. Details by the end of tomorrow I hope. I will then start a thread on the PDGA tournament section.
Good job on the baskets...can I play? Billy played while I worked last year. :D

West Guth now has 18 brand spanking new (and shiney) Chainstar baskets and Lamar Park is, once again, a functional 9 hole course.
HUGE thanks go out to Mike Smith. He made it all happen. Thanks, Mike, for all your hard work and constant effort. Of course Mike couldn't have done any of this on his own so a special recongnition and thank you goes out to all the guys that helped out along the way: Erron, Albert, Ty, Bailey, Lance, Smokey, Trey, Fabian, Travis and many more. Thanks to the Third Coast Disc Golf Club for stepping up and "gettin' er dun"!!!!
IT's not over yet. Plans are in the works for another 9 hole course in FlourBluff, Waldron Park. So rest up and get ready to install another course in June 2006!
Also, check the PDGA tournament thread for exciting info on the Budweiser Select Corpus Chrisit Open (formerly known as the Corpus Coastal Clash), July 15&16, 2006 @ West Guth Park.

heh, you guys need to support Toby at Lonestar Lumber! He just donated some landscape timbers, five, for us to use at Lamar for tee posts! We still plan to do tee signs, but we need something for now to show everyone where to play from.
Nothing fancy, no concrete, but want to bury at least 18 to 24 inches into ground.
Lets say tuesday 530, bring your shovels and post hole diggers!!! Should take only about an hour, then we will play some doubles!!!
Need to be removing sleeves from Guth to put at Waldron, something to think about.....

If you want, I can make a higher resolution pic...that was done late one night in about 10 minutes. I was going for thin lines, 'cause the last t-shirts were HOT with that big solid picture.
