The Beaver State Fling has been Tim Skellenger's ticket to the USDGC in the past, and this year he qualified in style by nearly winning it.

Others making the grade at the NT event (June 15th-17th) in Estacada, OR, were: Paul Oman of Evansville, IN, Don Smith of Santa Cruz, CA, Sean Phillips of Deer Island, OR, and Kevin Rarick of Nashville, TN.

Wanted: A traveling partner for the 2012 USDGC. That’s all Californians Micah Dorius and Shasta Criss need after qualifying for the Pro Flight at the Steady Ed Memorial Masters Cup in Santa Cruz, CA (May 18th-20th).

Also qualifying at the National Tour event were Jeremy Koling of Charlotte (-12), Jere Eshelman of Penn Valley, CA (-10), and Carlo Pelg of San Diego (-8).

Last appearing at Winthrop in 2007 with a uncharacteristic 60th place finish, Dorius is ready to get back to Rock Hill, S.C. for an event he cherishes.

“It’s the closest thing we have to a PGA tour event,” said the San Diego resident, who finished 8th in 2003.

Disc golfers with ratings ranging from 860 to 1000 found a level playing field at the USDGC Extravaganza tournament in Atlanta (May 5-6) to determine Georgia’s state spot for the USDGC Performance Flight.

In a unique twist on Performance Flight qualifying, Georgia PDGA State Coordinator Keith Johnson took the top three players from stroke play and the top three using Performance Scoring from each of the event’s first three rounds for a final round where Performance Scoring determined the state’s spot.

The United States Disc Golf Championship is something you just have to experience to understand, says Greater Milwaukee Open tournament director Terry Miller. And, after the A-tier tournament in Milwaukee, Wisc., 10 more disc golfers, many of whom have never set foot on Winthrop Gold, will get a chance to see it all.

Leading the way with eight strokes below his projected for the May 21-22 tournament was intermediate Brandon Burbach, 23, of Sussex, Wisc. The 866-rated Burbach, who wasn't familiar with The Championship until this year, is all about it now.

USDGC Vet Ready to Take On New Style

After earning the top USDGC qualifying spot at the People's Championship on May 14th-15th, Devin Frederick is ready to exact his revenge on the Winthrop Gold Course come October.

In his past three trips to the USDGC, the 998-rated Frederick, of Hellerton, Penn., hasn't exactly lit the course on fire. He said that although he's always enjoyed the experience, there were always those few holes that sullied his performance.

“Every year I wish I would play better,” said Frederick, whose best finish was 83rd in 2007.

Dustin Perry Turns Heads in ATL as top qualifier
A relative unknown disc golfer, Dustin Perry, made the disc golf world take notice after he took three-time US Champion Barry Schultz to the edge at the Remax Atlanta Open, and in the process wound up on top of the DGU Performance Leaderboard. Perry, 24, of Rome, Ga., not only beat his projected score at the April 16th-17th tourney, he slapped it around. Overall he finished 21 strokes below his projected, with 11 of those strokes coming in the second round when he tied the course record with a 1079-rated round under heavy winds. Pot of Gold Tourney Deposits 10 More Qualifiers

As the disc golf season tees off for most of the country, qualifying for the 2011 USDGC continues right alongside with ten disc golfers in New Orleans securing their spot at Winthrop this fall.

The Pot of Gold tournament, a PDGA C-tier tournament held March 12th, ushered-in entrants from the PDGA's Region 2, which encompasses Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.

The 10 disc golfers with the best DGU "Performance" scores from each regional qualifying tournament receive invites to the 2011 USDGC this October. Ten have already earned spots frm last December's wild card qualifier in Texas.

2011 USDGC Dates Set

It's official. The 2011 United States Disc Golf Championship returns to the breathtaking Winthrop Gold Course in Rock Hill, S.C. Oct. 5-8.

This is the same week as in recent years; however next year's Championship will be anything but typical. The Championship will undergo its biggest change since its inception in 1999, when an all-inclusive handicapping system will help determine the field.

After round two’s (-6) Nikko Locastro sits at (-13) for The Championship, one stroke ahead of Will Schusterick, who’s still hanging tough after posting a (-5) on Thursday. Locastro said after the round that he wants to win the tournament and repeat as USDGC champion more than anything else he’s done in disc golf. And, he won’t let stroke & distance get in his way. “The harder the course is, the better I can play,” Locastro said.

Disc golf is in full world view, as the Presidents Cup and the United States Disc Golf Championship have  to date been watched by over 13,000 viewers in 99 nations 

The Live Internet Broadcasting of disc golf’s Presidents Cup and first round of the United States Disc Golf Championship have been seen world-wide by our legion of fans.  With both days each covering over fours hours of live play. This number will continue to grow, but constitutes nearly 1,000,000 minutes of viewing during just our first two days of broadcasting.  The production has also been supported heavily, as nearly 300 donations have been registered.
