Majestic Day Two

Majestic Day Two

Sunday, June 27, 2010 - 06:17

Day two of the Minnesota Majestic went smoothly.  The threat of storms remained in the forecast but thankfully did not materialize which allowed the pros to finish their remaining 10 – 14 holes that they were unable to complete yesterday at the Blue Ribbon Pines course.

Three aces were hit during the round, one each by Dano Johnson, Chris “Critter” Meyer and Danny Polk. Both Dano and Critter aced #8, a tight 155 foot tunnel shot and Danny found the chains on #21, another fairly tight left to right turning shot.

In the open division, Nate Doss leads the pack by shooting a 71 on the 27 hole course, which puts him at 17 under course par. Dave Feldberg is sitting in second, 2 throws off the lead, followed closely by Cale Leiviska and Nate Sexton at 74.

Valerie Jenkins finds herself in familiar territory at the top of the women's field, but she still has her work cut out for her as Des Reading is only 3 throws back with both Sarah Hokom and Liz Lopez only 1 behind Des.

In Masters, Jay Reading goes on a birdie streak at the end to card a 76 and put himself at the top of the field.  He has a 2-shot lead on Jeff Harper who is playing in his first event of the season.

For those of you who have not played Blue Ribbon Pines, the course has a lot of personality. There are  quite a few wooded holes, but they all have their own personality.  There are very distinct features on nearly every hole on the course from the terraced green to the basket that looks as if it is in a sink hole to the perfectly round tee pad.  There are a few strategically placed ponds and a small creek that makes itself known on a few holes.  The course has variety and beauty and very obviously a team of dedicated disc golfers who care very much about the sport and this very well maintained course.

Play continues Sunday at Hyland SSA with another 27 hole round followed by a final 9 for the top 4 men and the top 3 women.  Follow the lead group live here.
