Hey Twoputt,
Are you posting on all our friends sites about the move to discgolfersrus? What does it take to set up a site anyhow? Maybe we should start our own with priority given to what the players want on a site. It has always been my opinion that one or two making decisions for the masses is always disastrous. That is what was so neat about the way you handled to structuring of the team event, put it out there, get the players input, make a plan, receive more input from players, revise the plan, come up with a better plan, all the while getting feedback from the players on their thoughts and comments. Moral to this story, "It's what the people want"

Not that hard to set up your own site..not very expensive either
GoDaddy.com is very easy to use
We added a Message Board to our site this weekend...It cost us nothing and only took a few hours to get it up and running

Mitch, thanks for the info. Looks like the PDGA may have reason to improve their performance or change may be a comin. I just talked to Wise and he said he still can't send a pm or post. Now that is bull_ _ _ _. Here we are trying to finalize this team event, players jockeying for teams, the Oklahoma Open is this weekend and Wise is shut out. He's the guy that is putting the team event together. Looks like it may be time to create a new entity to me.

Why not get a Yahoo group started? Our Minnesota Frisbee Association has the largest one on the internet with over 500 members: MFA-Online
It's free. It stays up. Messages are gotten to everyone instantly or daily as the user prefers. And the FILES section has all of the course maps, schedules and event flyers for people to access. The only thing it's not really good for is displaying who's registered and posting results. Our online history goes back over 5 years now.

Chuck, thanks for the suggestion, now, guys we have options. Chuck says Yahoo, Mitch says GoDaddy works real well, and his group has set up another website. I think the key thing here is to have a common place to start until a suitable, reliable substitute is settled on. So far, it looks like discgolfersrus is working pretty well. Anybody out there who is computer savvy want to explore some of the others and come back and lead this old blind hog to the trough.

Just passing on word from the TD of the team event...
Any news regarding the team event will now be posted on the other site. www.discgolfersR.us (http://www.discgolfersR.us)
I urge anyone that is playing in this event to go over and set up an account. This will ensure that you don't miss any important news regarding the event. Oh ya.....ITS FREE!!! (hear that pdga?!?) It's extremely reliable (hear that pdga?!?) and relatively easy to navigate. So, give it a shot; and if you don't like the new site, stay over here and take your chances.

[QUOTE]
I believe there is a workday scheduled for Mohawk on Saturday. We are making progress, starting yesterday we have a chainsaw crew and a bob cat with a grappler attachement. They strated working down the sides of BH 14, the tee area around 15, green area on 15 and they will be going down 16, the green area around 17 and the tee area around 18. They already spread the huge pile of mulch on hole 1.
What will we need for Saturday:
2-4 weed eaters - clean up the tee pads and clear a 33ft circle on each green.
Pole saw or pole chain saw: we just need to raise the ceilings and trim a few limbs.
Hole 4: trim up hanging limbs down the sides of the fairways.
Hole 7: trim up to the left of the green and behind the green.
Hole 8: weed eat the white fairway
Hole 10: clean up the ceiling from just past the pond to the basket.
Hole 12: trim up by the white tee pad and down the left side cut the ceiling back a little.
Hole 15: raise the ceiling a little at the turn going to the basket
All of this, with what the crew is doing now will make this course fantastic for the OO. The rough will still be ROUGH but the fairways are beautifull.
Thanks to anyone that can come out on Saturday and help. Bring gloves and bug spray.
If we can get a good crew out there it will go very fast and we can get a round in for our efforts.

Just kidding, Mark Frye, a local disc golfer and coach at the High School did a real good job last year of making up some maps. Unfortunately, I am enroute to Dallas for a business meeting right now. I will be home this evening and will try to get it uploaded tomorrow.

So...we as a team don't get to choose how are players are paired up to play this tourny , and we have to take it that this "random" drawing was actually random...was anyone else present at this drawing ? Not that I have to explain this to you Muff, but I printed out all of the team names, put them in a big bowl and drew them out two at a time to determine which teams are carded together for the first round.
After the first round you can put which ever two team members together you want, as long as it is different from the first round.
We will play the blues first. This will not change.
By the way, you don't have much room to gripe. your team hasn't paid yet. :o:D

Is there a map of the course somewhere?
Mark Frye, a local disc golfer and coach at the High School did a real good job last year of making up some maps. Unfortunately, I am enroute to Dallas for a business meeting right now. I will be home this evening and will try to get it uploaded tomorrow.

... super-slick , Jim ... just upload or e-mail it to Steve Ward ... he can have it on the front-page of the TDSA website ... and you can link it here ...

Just in case someone (like me) doesn't know how to get to the Lodge, I found some directions:
From OKC- Take 44E to Bristow. Exit 196 Bristow. Go North on HWY 48 which turns in to HWY 64 which then turns in to HWY 99. Take left after you pass HWY 11.
From Tulsa- Take 75N to HWY 20W to Sklatook. Turn Right on HWY 11 to
Barnsdall. Continue on HWY 11 until you run in to HWY 99. Right turn on HWY 99 and turn Left in to first driveway.

That was the MOST fun 2 rds. of Disc golf I have ever played. We Won cash (still sucked) and The atmosphere, food, people and the course itself were spectacular. If you ever get the chance to stand up in the bed of the worktruck, let BHOI do 50 on trails out there, then do it. Better than bullriding lol.

They are the true meaning of family. i Also want thank each and every player that came ot for this event. This was our trial run, I hoped you liked it and please let us know what we can change to make it better for you next time.
The event went something like this, Total cash payout $4,600, along with this all meals were provided, drinks and everyone's special surprise, a nice full bottle of Crown Royal on every tee pad. We also had a 4 way tie for the division of A flight and B flight after the first round. It was settled with a tie breaker for hole 3. One team got bumped to the bottom of A flight and the others went to B flight. With one of those being the winner of be flight.

Thanks Paul, I have already had one suggestion made for next year. Instead of flighting after the first round, it is suggesated that we have two different ratings caps, an A Pool cap and a B Pool cap. Two divisions from the begining. you design your team for the division you want to sign up in.
But next year will be a two day event with two courses. We will have a later start time and will not have to rush to be done by dark. Then a big celebration of some type that night and a mid morning tee time on Sunday and everyone should be out of there by 3.
I will be giving some thought on the ratings cap for each flight. I would like to see how the rounds this weekend would be rated but we will have to wait on the site to be more functional so that I can do some research.
Thanks for hanging in there on this Paul and CONGRATULATIONS on the win! ;)

these were pdga-round-ratings derived from the first sanctioned at Pawhuska (TFO , sept. 2007)
.
keep in mind that THAT WIND from this past Saturday probably dropped most players something like 30 to 80 points easily even more if they dont routinely play on gusty days also , the factor of if they had ever played those Holes before made some difference imo
.
.
anyway , those Scores to Ratings should be pretty close to correct if not , thats okay too Im human /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Thanks Wayne.
OK just for example...
Figure for wind from blues for all divisions 50pts more.
Figure for wind from whites for all divisions 30pts more.
Team Woolaroc Totals
1st round total was 269 = approx 917 figuring for wind
2nd round total was 231 = approx 900 figuring for wind
Our team rated at 3660 = 915
We averaged around 910 as a team.
Sounds like as a team we were fairly close.
We were 24 strokes out of cash in A Tier.
That is 3 strokes per person per round.
To cash in A Tier needed to average about 940 as a team.
So at least 1.5 strokes better than ratings per round. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Sounds about right.

I don't agree with those Blue tee ratings. That would mean that Wise had an 833 round with a 71, and Wilkes had an 877 round with a 67. I'm sure that they haven't had rounds that low for years. I was happy with my 69 (after seeing how poorly everyone else shot), and felt it was right about in keeping with my 892 rating if not a little better. The course must have changed since those prior round ratings.
Great, great event by the way. I love the team format. It really added something to the tone of the event. TDSA innovates and leads in the sport of disc golf!!

I think that the second scheme is more fair.
Notice that average score per player per round is very close. If you throw out the top 4 and the bottom 2 teams, and look at the middle 12 teams, the range of average scores differs by only 2.5 strokes per round. I'm sure that everyone could think of at least one mistake per round that cost them 2 strokes (how about driving OB on the Island hole, for example, and taking a 4 instead of a 2). The scores were actually very close. Ratings based play really does work. I vote for the same format next year, without flighting. I really enjoyed the chance to play on the same card with really good disc golfers, instead of the usual hacks that I have to play with ;).

the teams may change drastically if the same cap is in force.
1 year from now should change each players rating therfore many combinations wont work again.
the flighted payout seems to work for some of us but not for others.
i personally have been the recipiant of the good side of this configuration twice now ,once at chandlerstock and once at pawhuska. i personally think tat this configuration is good for spreading the wealth to players that may not cash in a single division configuration. this may lead to a greater participation count.

I kinda felt like the first round was to divide what ended up being Pro and Am scores. There was clearly a division of teams that were on fire and those that are still looking for their disks. I would vote for the same format, But I have a bias opinion as well.

But BVI and Hinds, don't you both feel like you would usually score better than me in most competitions, and aren't you a little embarassed that you both scored worse than me & you still cashed? I didn't exactly feel great about my 130, and thought my team-mates carried me big time. Everyone had a chance to play better (except Dorries).

2 courses, 36 teams, 2 or 3 ratings caps?

3600 - Potted Meat :)

the format plays well the way it was done.
any team or teams had the opportunity tohave the luck to shoot just poorly enough to place in the second teir.
it definately would not be nice to be the teams that finished 1 stroke worse or 1 stroke better and end up in nomans land.
thats the benefit of having all payouts and tye breakers in place before the tourny begins. there is no way to plan shooting just well enough to place in the second teir. if i didnt take the snowman on 15 with a lost disc and a retee then a 5 on 16 and a double circle 5 on 17 then our team may have been in no mans land as well.i certainly didnt enjoy those last few holes, but again no plan to shoot exactly bad enough to place in the second teir payout.

Just finished sodding 16 green on the creek. Did some expansion work to make the green a little bigger and then sodded with Bermuda. That's another one in the ground permanent. FYI, 16 is the hole that plays from the pumpjacks back north and plays on a cut out right above the pond.

My last comment on this...
Usually in past competition that there were
top 1,2,3, and 10,11,12 paid
there was no ratings cap and there was a wide range of skill levels
With a ratings cap everyone should have been fairly evenly matched.
And if you played well both rounds you were rewarded.
Or...
If you played OK and then decent you were rewarded.
After seeing the results
I don't think a cap and a 1,2,3, and 10,11,12, payout are fair.
If this were $5 a person fine.
This was $50 a person, a different story.
(yes I am whinning, I played 2 rounds of 1000 rated golf with a 941 avg)
IMO
Next year if we play a cap it should be a straight payout
and not tiered.
Just my 2 cents

I would say it is very difficult to run and play an event like that.
One thought, we are working on re-scheduling the Stillwater Classic from 9-26 to 11-21 for a B Tier and 11-22 for a non sanctioned doubles event..
My son Matt obtained Hideaway Pizza as the title sponsor. This is going to be a big event, B Tier with the goal of $1,000.00 added cash.
Being the middle of November there is not much else going on. If Joe Rotan approves those dates for Stillwater lets work together and spread these events out a few weeks...
No reason to compete against each other and the players will appreciate a little time between the events to help them out..

Paul is correct except, nobody knows what the new ratings will be like. If you want to go ahead and get everything else arranged, we can check out the next ratings update and go from there. No teams should be arranged at this time because it will just get busted up by the numbers later.
This is assuming your (paul) crew wants to step up and run it as Dave has mentioned.

heres hoping that someone(?) carries this Event forward this year under Dave Wises inception and guidance last year , this whole concept was Huge 2008 capped and filled all 18-Teams well before the Tourney wildly-popular , well-run , and a big-success AND , it was only a one-day deal check the post-tourney chat and raves Players wanted MORE of these type Team-Events if Ive understood correctly , Wise has deferred in 09 but has offered his ideas and experienced-advice to whatever TD or group-of-organizers would look to set-this-up there was already a date on the State Schedule for this November that whole month is mostly open (Nov. 7 has filled : 1-in-Norman and 1-in-Arkansas) there are now TWO great Courses in place at The Lodge either one can be tweaked to be as stretched-out-and-tough-and-long-timewise -or- as shorter-and-tough-and-quicker-time-playing simultaneous-play for two-flights with no back-ups
.
.
.
other thoughts and brain-droppings : maybe economy is tighter maybe $25 a head for Players maybe 3-Person Teams (2 full Teams could play same hole assignments) maybe a round of total-Team-Score ; or Alt-shot ; or best-shot maybe a round of Match play just rolling-out various options then again , Wise had that pre-hyped last-year big time 4-Person Teams $50 per Player 1-day 2-rounds ratings-cap per Team and you cant argue with success

Wise, when you set this up and ran it last year, did you get to play in it? There's a couple of TD's here in Norman, and I was gonna ask one of them if he was interested, but I already know that he would rather play in it.
Wayne, some of those new ideas you pitched are sounding good, here's another...cap the tourney at 36 teams, keep them 4 to a team. 2 represenatives from a team will play 1 course the 1st round and the other the next.

the great thing about being one of the lowest rated players in the state is the ability to exceed expectations when needed. I may run out of gas in two day long format events but for one day I can pull it together!

This IS NON-SANCTIONED fun. The MULE IS IN. I know Juby will be bringin his rod. Anybody who has access to one should most certainly make every effort to bring it to this event. I have just heard that COOL DADDY SLICK BREEZE AND DYNAMIC DISCS are also going to sponsor some things for this event. That is very COOL and DYNAMIC.

BIG SURPRISE (NOT) :D
Get the Fur dog to varify player stats for this bunch, as this smells like a Chandler Park sand bag team, Maybe even a whole dump truck of sand!:D

Yep, it looks like it's going to be the same "non-rated player" conspiracy just like last year when Wise ran it. :( :D

… so , the “fever” really hits next Tuesday , Oct.20 , when the PDGA Ratings catch their latest update … vunderbar ! …
.
… now then :
.
.
… the “Lodge Teams” Event is set for Saturday , Nov.14 … it’s being handled and organized (most capably) by HOI(tulsa), Digger(norman), Karla(bristow) … a Grade-A and talented bunch … it’s a one-day deal ; full of Fun , challenge , camaraderie , payouts , bragging-rights , Enjoyment … so I now offer you Sunday … many players will be in for one-day-only … many Teams are disbanded afterward … but for those who stay overnite , it will be a RED , WHITE , AND BLUE Event on Sunday …
.
… here’s ‘some’ of my details :
.
… we’ll play mid-morning or so … sleeping-in a little on Sunday is always a bonus , ay ? …
… we’ll be playing “Triples” … YOU form your Teams … see criteria below …
… low-entry is $10 a player … no ace-pot , no c-t-p , no mullies …
… 100% Cash Payout …
… we’ll be scoring by “Match Play” …
… each player will play (3) 6-hole “matches” … (more details later)
… we’ll be playing the “Island Course” …
… a Team is composed of :
… (1) player rated at 950+ to play from BLUE tees …
… (1) player rated at 900-949 to play from WHITE tees …
… (1) player rated at 899 and below to play from RED tees …
… we’ll play 18-Holes from above tees …
… each Player will have earned for his/her Team either : 0-points , 1-point , 2-points , or 3-points …
… to settle the tie(s) possible after the Match Play round, we go immediately into playoff …
… playoff is sudden-death, starting on Hole 1, TOTAL SCORE on the hole …
.
… therefore …
.
… THIS DEAL WILL BE A BLAST … a lot of “ratings” players will be sticking around … some may pop-up to the Course Sunday morning to form a Team … Daryl Johnson used a similar match-play format years ago at Dolese Park … it was both intriguing AND fun … ENJOY your Oklahoma Autumn at The Lodge ...
.
… you can start planning your RED,WHITE,BLUE Team now …
.
.
.
… ‘nuff for now … ‘CE’ you there ! … ( wink ) …

:( aw, sorry you in box is jammed if you rating was as low as mine your box would be collecting dust from lack of use.
Glad you can do all the things that you say, but can you play in the freezing cold?
My game gets better in the cold while everyone else suffers and November can be very cold when it wants to be.:D
