This is starting to look like the land of unwanted Xmas toys. ;)

Quit pouting, this isn't like in Jr High when no one would pick you. Lower rated players will become an asset to a team. Thats whay we have the cap. No super teams!

Well hold on, I have tactically thrown a few horrible round to try and get a good drop on the old rating for this thing so we might be able to keep Kyle... ;)

What is up with Team Poker's players trying to get on our team Wise?

Haven't you signed a contract or something Penny? :D

But if My favorite Wilky did get cut from the team I think we would be looking at a pair of 900 rated players....

Here is the list...

Caleb Brown 17546 OK USA 900 14 M Am
Brad Zimmerman 11035 OK USA 900 14 M Am

This system sure puts a premium on certain players....just like the last system.

Coda / 1018
Mitch Mac / 1001

Now if I can just talk the other three guys into it. :( :D

some tips & hints about how Players are rated (when they dont show up on the pdga ratings pages)
.
if they used-to-be-current-pdga years ago , you can look back at their former-ratings (may need to be up-dated though)
.
even if they never had a pdga-number or rating , you can look back at any past pdga events they played and see how their scored-rounds compared to other Players with ratings
.
even if they never entered a pdga tournament at all , their local-mini-scores can be requested ; and then compared with other Players that day TD input can be helpful as well to determine whose game-is-on-the-rise lately
.
.
.
ALL THE ABOVE , (and possibly other factors) ; will be weighed-and-measured by Wise-n-Staff to help determine a fair rating-number on all Players and potential entrants
.
Ive got confidence in em should be interesting after September 9 ...

nuther tip as you eyeball possible Team-formulations think of 925 , ay ? work from there ( average rating of 4-players on a 3700-total ) if you scheme after a top-Pro who carries a 980 (55 above that number) ; you need to think about off-setting that with someone rated at 55-below that number youll recruit someone rated at 870 simple-math not-so-simple until September 9 TOO COOL

... possibilities be endless ... :D

Heres a possible example based on the scores from the Twisted at Dolese a couple of weeks ago:

Team 1:
Coda / 97
Mitch Mac / 99
Click / 116
Furdog / 132 assuming I did 66 both rounds.

Total score: 444 but team based on current rating is 4 over the cap.

Take out Click (rated 874) and insert Duff (rated 849) with 122 and team score is 450 with 21 points under cap.

Team 2:
Wilkes / 103
Wise / 114
Opie / 115
Dorries / 110

Total score 442 (winner) but team based on current rating is 91 over the cap.

Take out Dorries (rated 917) and insert Duff (rated 849) with 122 and team score is 454 but team is 23 over cap.

Take out Duff ( rated 849) and insert Furdog (rated 811) with 132 and team is at 464.

So I think Ill pass on Wises (loser) team and bribe Coda, Mitch Mac, and Duff.

I must say though, looking at Wises and Opies last round a couple of weeks ago, it looks like they both tanked on the 2nd round in preparation for a lower rating for this team event. :D

Just what I thought.

Another Wise 'n Opie conspiracy. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

That's ok because I've been "tanking" tournaments ever since I started playing to get to this point. :D....Now's my chance for a big payday!!! :)

Ok, based on the above example:

Jarod Pennington 89 (current at 980)
Coda Hatfield 97 (current at 1018)
Mike Click 116 (current at 874)
Furdog 132 (current at 811)

Total Team score: 434 with 17 points under the cap.

I think we have a winner.

Looks like all you guys will be playing for 2nd & 3rd place. :o

Ok,.....so the "conspiracy" grows bigger eh????

How convenient for you. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif....What did you do, pay his entry? :D

Ok no problem, well sub in Mitch Mac for Coda. I have total confidence in Mike Click and Jarod.

Ill move in at the Lodge, open up a piano bar at night for drinks and tips and practice during the day to make up a few strokes.

Maybe if youre lucky your team will be able to hammer out a first place in the B flight.

If there are any attorneys out there with experience in Indian Law, please give me a PM. Also, when the time is right, I may want to share this ordeal with the press. Myself (about 940 rated)
Chris Stine (about 915 rated)
That's about 1855 (about 925-930 avg)
are currently looking for 2 more players

is there a potential team out there that can use a 919 rated player ?
my tenative team has now exceded the total of 3700 so we are looking for building another team.
that list of players and their ratings will be helpful. it would be exceptional if the players contact info was available also.
has there ever been a player phone book per sae of the players in our club or our region?

Trajection = 1. To transport, transmit, or transpose. 2. Throwing or casting through or across.

Need an edit?

Who are you trying to get in contact with brad? Phone book? Google?

Or have someone else do it for you with 411.

The tools are in your hands.

i spoke to our web site guru and he spoke of a local region phone book of players. He thought it was called the trajection directory.
i have close to 100 player numbers in my phone that is a great start howerver there maybe a need to fill teams with other players , and i was looking for a comunications list for every body to use in building their teams.

I believe all these farts together constitutes an illegal team.

First of all I believe "The Mailman", Diel, and Click are all under-rated and better than the ratings stated. I also believe that "The Talk Show Host" provides a verbal distraction disadvantage or "Cooler Effect" capable of disrupting all others who play before, on, & after his card.

Re-Bump!!!!

Bump!!!

And now, a paid advertistment

So you've stuffed your team to the max with three of the best rated players you could find but due to the cap you've only got room for an 821 rated player. :(

Never fear, Furdog is here!!!!

Yes, that's right my friends, where else are you going to find such an under-rated player like Furdog that is due to explode with a low round any day now??? :o

But WAIT!!!!.....Theres more!!!! :)

Call now within the next ten minutes and not only will you receive the one and only Real Deal Furdog,..

Youll get the Airbiscuits,...

The intimidation factor to destroy the competition,.

The fly-high tye dye,..

And his professional knowledge from years of playing from the rough compiled on one two-disc DVD set. (Thats a total of 8 hours of backward rollers, tree whacking, pond splashing, plastic splitting, worm hedging stuff that you and your team need.)

Dont let this once in a lifetime offer pass you by!!!!

Furdogs agent, (LilMoose) is standing by to take your call!!!!

Paid for by the Someone please pick Furdog and get him out of LilMooses House committee.

Get your team together and keep in mind, this event will be flighted after the first round so all teams have a chance at the big money. :D

Got a question, Once you're on a team is your rating frozen there? I know for everyone else this is no issue but take Jeremy for example, he has one event under his belt, his rating for that event was 797, if he goes to say the Stillwater Classic this weekend and shoots above 800, will his rating go up? Wasn't too sure how this would work for him, or is the rating for him locked in which would mean he could play at some other events and not have to worry about his rating going up which would affect his team. I assume that once the regular ratings came out, his rating at that time would remain the same until the next ratings are released. Is that about right?

Melissa
Sep 19 2008, 12:06 PM
Ratings won't change again until 11/25/08. He's a good pick at 797!

True! Good point Slack!

twoputtok
Sep 19 2008, 12:31 PM
SInce Jeremy only has the one rated round, it would require him to shoot way above 800 befre I would even consdider taking another look at his rating and with the fact that he is on a posted team his rating is locked. ;)

The format will be 18 holes on the original course followed by 18 more holes on the original course.

This is why I wanted an 18 team limit. Now if we have more thems than that I may consider the other 9 on the creek but that will only be after I let the 18 team captains vote on increasing the number of teams. ;)

Oh forgot, we will play the blues one round and the whites the other round. :D

If you need to know which first, tough, I haven't decided yet. :D

I have given a lot of thought into how to card the teams together. First thought was to have one team member on a card with members from 3 other teams. But, I thought a little more and (can be a HUGE mistake for me)and have decided to put two team members on a card together. The reason is, since this is a TEAM event, players need their team to help calm them down or pick them up, help them discuss shots and strategies, just be there.
It helps.

For those that have not ever beeen to one of or any of my other "off the wall events" that I some how end up running , you will not be dissappointed, just ask the ones that have played in them. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

And if you are dissapointed, It would hurt me very deeply. :D

Get those teams in here! ;)

Got another team for you.

Team: Is there a Doctor in the House?!?

Josh Crowl
Paul Dorries
Travis Koehring
Dr. Jim Geurin

Also on a sidenote: I would like to ask how fair it is to base a players rating off of his 1 and only sanctioned tournament? I thought if they didnt have an actual rating (multiple events, official pdga rating) then it was a combination of how they shoot at other places too, not just one event. for instance 797 Jeremy Taylor shot a 57 at boomer park on saturday, in the same round where devan owens shot 53, josh crowl shot 54, i shot 54, and andrew treat shot 54... clearly a true 797 rated player can not shoot ~920 rated rounds? just posing a question here on the fairness of basing a rating off of one recorded tournament

Thanks

edit: ratings for players are 968, 937, 898, and 892 for 3695

...according to Wises guidelines post...A player must either have a PDGA rating (not just a rated round) or a rating will be figured based on recent finishes. (According to the PDGA there is no Jeremy Taylor...yet. I say yet because they're notorious for taking a while to add new members) I know a +10 or so at McClure is WAY better than 797. And the round at Boomer just solidifies that he is better than an "unofficial" 797. Twoputt, where are you??? Lets hear your take on this.

That is why I posed this question. Although I may not look it now, the Taylor family, in general, have all been natural athletes. Pretty much what we want to do well, we improve significantly for a while. Which means, by the time this tournament rolls around, if Jer has had time to practice his putting, he will more than likely be better still. It is definitely something that should be considered when rating him.

One other thing, if it seems that Jer's improvement presents an unfair advantage for his team, then we need to know. His team would need to know if they need another player and Jer would need to find another team. Whatever is fair to the other teams is what we will do. How does everyone see the answer to this issue? What would Jeremy's rating be if we factored in both rounds at Stillwater?

FYI, My personal opinion is that Jeremy is going to continue to improve, as any new player will, for a period of time. Therefore attaching an accurate rating to him at this point and it being a true reflection of his game may be a bit problematic. It is for this reason and out of a sense of fair play, I asked Jer if he would mind sitting this one out, he said that would be fine with him.

SInce Jeremy only has the one rated round, it would require him to shoot way above 800 befre I would even consdider taking another look at his rating and with the fact that he is on a posted team his rating is locked. ;)

He was locked in at a 797 on the same day that everyone else's ratings posted. Yours will not change for this event...why should his???

He is already on a team....and no, he should not sit it out....how is that fair???

It wouldn't be just losing one player....the whole team would have to be reconstructed!!!

Paul...you shot above your rating all weekend....should we factor that too???

make jeremy drink a nice big glass of hard cider before the start of each round the first round he may shoot above his rating but that second glass may make the afternoon round entertaining :D;)

Exactly!! Paul, you and Josh's rating are too low and you guys know it. My rating is too high for the way I've been playing, James Patton's & Rodney Carpenter's rating are WAYYY too low, Andrew Treat's rating is too low IMO, and so on and so on... That is the fun part of making a team, trying to find the diamond in the rough, the one player that either hasn't played a tourney in awhile and is playing better than their rating, or finding some new player that nobody really knows about and that doesn't have a rating. Bottom line...the TD set the rules, and we built a team, simple as that. To change anything at this point would be equally if not more unfair than if he shoots above his rating. With most of the players available now taken, Devan, Chris and myself would be screwed, and all because the rules were changed in the middle of the game...again...NOT FAIR!

I'M OUT!

But I'm still curious.... I believe it was originally stated that you either use your rating (from the PDGA) or one will be figured from events played (even if unsanctioned). I don't know if Jer has a PDGA number, as I haven't found him. So, that would lead me to believe that assigning a number would be more accurate than taking 1 round. Notice only 1 of the 2 rounds for the TFO are even rated.

If you are going to use his play from the TFO as his rating, thats fine. But you have to include his 2nd round from the TFO as well; which haven't been figured for the NOV players. This will bring his "rating" up as he shot 6 strokes better.

He shot 104 and 98. According to the other rounds shot, a 98 is rated 915. Just a little higher than 797. The average of his only 2 rated rounds = 856. How is using 797 as his rating correct?
...just my 2 cents on the issue :)

The rules haven't been changed......You guys used the wrong number in the equation. His rating isn't 797. You use all rounds (*within reason*) to figure a persons rating, not one. According to the TD, you use his rating(all his rounds), or he gets one assigned.

*by "within reason", I mean there is a standard deviation that is sometimes involved in figuring a rating. As Jer only has 2 PDGA rated rounds, this won't come into play.

C-Dub.... guess what... i have 28 rounds factored into my rating, and Josh has even more factored into his. we actually HAVE pdga ratings... one round is not a PDGA rating, it is one rated round, and the way i read the rules was, if they do not have an actual PDGA rating then they will be assigned one based on their play in local minis tournaments etc.

and lets get this straight... this isnt a personal attack wagle.. this is me questioning the fairness of one player having one round as his rating, im not trying to slam anyone... but you seem to be a little defensive about your team... HRMMMM WONDER WHY?? you think i should say this to your face like it is some kind of a personal problem?? it isnt a personal problem, im questioning the way a player's rating was calculated, so u should prolly back off a little

BIG DAVE!!! hey man its not about how LOW our ratings are.. we have PLENTY of rounds factored into our ratings.... if I went out and shot an 850 rated round and called that my rating it wouldnt be fair, i actually have 28 rounds to say i am a 937... and as far as I am concerned that is what I am... he has ONE rated round and NO official pdga rating... so where is the fairness there? and please dont whine about being screwed and not getting a team... as far as I know there is still a HUGE list of people waiting for teams, with high and low rated players on it.

quite frankly the point of me posing this question was because it just seemed to me like this team slipped in here without anyone saying anything about it... dave wise just seemed to OK the team and I am posting that I think it isn't fair to base his rating off one round.

To the taylors and jeremy... I respect Jim for posting and questioning as well. I have absolutely nothing against any person, i am simply questioning the rules applied to this situation.

Jeremy is definitely an improving player (as we all are!...) the unfortunate thing is he only has one rated round. I was under the impression that more rounds were supposed to be taken into consideration than just one if the player doesnt have a rating. and since he did play this weekend at boomer and at mcclure (penny said something about mcclure) then we should look at how he shot compared to the ratings of the other players.

if i am the only person with a team that thinks his "rating" one round... is flawed.. then I will back off. But I think it is unfair to the whole field, if you can factor in some other rounds and come up with a number and it is still 797, then show me, but until then I think it should be examined

There is no reason for any heat here. It is just business.

My personal position is that Jeremy's rating at 797 is probably too low.

I also think that there should be some sort of consideration for the sheer amount of rounds (or lack thereof) that Jeremy has played.

I think we need to think a little more.

As much as I hate to say it I don't really see how a guy with no official rating can really compete unless A. His rating is locked at some point. (As I thought we had done with Jeremy), or B. His rating is continually updated as he progresses. (which makes it impossible to tell where he rightly should be, which makes it impossible to get him on a team)

So the decision that needs to be made is if to freeze his rating, and if so where at, or to let Jeremy sit this one out...

I am in favor of locking his rating. Exactly where is the tough part for me...

I want all Taylors to play disc golf! :D

I have dibs on Jim, Debbie, and Leah for next year! :D:eek: :D

We can still use the well publicized TnT for our team name! :D

in my opinion, there is no way jeremy should sit the event out (no one should do that), that would be totally wrong... just needs a more comprehensive ratings assessment

and i was told that his rating was 797 at the time i made the team.. if u r scared u dont have to play. :o

srsly? LOL ur funny
