Mark Stubbs is in Michigan. Mark Stubbs couldn't find a sponsor, sell enough cars, get his repaired, pay his bills, and have enough money to get to the usdgc.

Looks like I"ve got a goal to qualify next year.

Thanks to Innova and ZoneDriven for the opportunity. Just not enough time to raise the funds. Good luck Larry LaBond and Steve Mills. Go get'em

:( :( :( :( :(

Sucks for him to qualify, but not be able to make it. Maybe he should have given his spot up to someone who could have made it there???

Not exactly qualify. He won the CFR raffle. I wonder if he could've given it up?

Nope, non transferable. I tried. My friend John Mick probably bought more rocs than most vendors. I would have like to had him go if anyone. Alas...I'm here in the "mit" and it's getting ready to snow.
One month's prep time might be alittle too soon for the givaway. I'll be the guinea pig though.
Go get em Michiganders!!!!!

PS: I just hope my rating isn't affected by my poor "showing" at the tournament. Kinda hard to score when youre 6 states away....I thought I should have at least birded hole #1 though :o:D

That was the best story out of the Monday qualifying. Ingar Bello ??? flew from the Netherlands to try and just earn a spot.

Anthon was on fire today. I was in his group this morning and got to witness some great golf. The eagle on #12 was a 20ft putt. He drove to the middle of the fairway about 150ft short of the long OB, that put him about 400-425 out. He parked his next shot (Wraith) within 20ft.

xterramatt
Oct 11 2006, 11:16 PM
I am surprised 12 did not yield anymore eagles. I predict at least 10 tomorrow. Must be those first day jitters. People just need to believe they can get there. Saw a lot of people lay up within range. It's only about 400 to get to the green from a good drive. It's a tougher lefty shot, but you don't travel over OB the whole way.

I heard Hofmann's circle 3 on 17 from across the lake. Was over there with Schweb.

Funniest of the day, Matt Orum falling on his ***** 3 times in a row during distance qualifying. Got a really good shot where he's about to hit the ground, should be in one of the galleries tomorrow.

Weather was predicting rain, but it went from grey and overcast to bright and sunny by afternoon. Morning was PERFECT for golf. Low wind and dewless grass. Just what you want. It only got windier as the day went on.

Look at those scores. No more than a stroke separation until you get to the bottom 10!
One day, lots of great golf.

I've always had the opinion that 14 was not a good hole. I know many people will argue it's risk reward, and I do love that aspect of it. However, I feel it is way too far for people to go for and b/c of that, will not have much score seperation at all.

Here are the numbers from it yesterday (very rough, just me counting)

1 - 0
2 - 12
3 - 130
4 - 9
5 - 19
6 - 2
7 - 2

Total played hole - 174
Scoring Average - 3.29

I feel that if you did not play the sidewalk as the OB line and created some different OB where players had to only throw 375ish to get in bounds, the scoring on this hole would be much better. I like the idea of risk reward, but its just at a distance (esp. with the retee) that no one goes for it it seems, or at least, no one should.

MTL21676
Oct 12 2006, 10:37 AM
Well there has been so many layouts, so there really can't be a record. Everytime a rule changes (inregards to how many throwns on 17 or where the drop is) or OB changes (which it does every year) then a new course is formed.

I'd say the best round ever played there was Kenny's 56 in 2004.

2004 was the first year of baboo on 7.
Also, holes 9 10 and 11 were completely different. 9 wasn't too hard, however, some big numbers were easy. 10 and 11 were very very tough.

2004 also had the 1/4 miler, 888, and the first time the new tee on 17 was played.

IMO, 2004 was the hardest layout of any of the years.

It was offered to Nolan because he is growing up, and handling his business. In the process of doing that he has not had all the opportunity to qualify that he would have liked or deserved. One of the things that he did in the process was probably the most grown up thing I have seen him do and that is to call me and let me know that he couldn't make the trip due to his responsibilities.

As for the rest of the questions, the first one should be are you committed to getting here? If the answer is yes then go the distance and Qualify. If the answer is no you will be right where you are this time next year. If you think that you know from that seat you are sadly mistaken, because you can't even begin to understand until you get here.

Those of you that are questioning the selection of Jeff Davis to play in this event based on his qualification or ability to win, don't do the things that he has done that make him very deserving of the spot.

This is not like any other event you have ever attended, you don't just get to run over here, stand in line, and sign up on Tuesday for the event that begins on Wednesday. If you think you are worthy and you aren't here, then you better get a bigger shovel and start digging for next year. If you qualify and you have a problem with paying your entry fee within the 30 day period, then you don't deserve to be here. You should take what ever you have that is worth anything to the pawn shop if you have to to pay the entry fee....unless you are not committed to being here......then you will be there......where ever you are right now.....watching from a distance.....you aren't even on the sidelines right now.

Well put Mace. I qualified but knew I couldn't make it so I'm fine sitting right here watching the updates as they come in. I'd love to have been able to give that spot away to the next highest non-qualified player at the WVO, but the USDGC has rules against that. Instead I just root for a bunch of friends to see if any of them will take it :)

I agree with MTL that 14 has been a weaker hole. I heard that the tee was moved up this year to provide a more tempting "go for it" option?

Although we don't need to always emulate ball golf, I doubt you would see the scoring distributions such as those on holes 10-14 and 17 on ball golf holes. Part of the reason for wider dispersion is the inclusion of players below the Gold level of 975 rating. When Harold takes a look at the numbers, it might be helpful to only look at the numbers for the players with ratings above 975 who average close to gold level at 1003 average in this event.

This is not like any other event you have ever attended...

In fifteen years of playing (and spectating) disc golf tournaments, the other events I've attended pale in comparison to the USDGC. From the challenging course design to the professional presentation of the event as a whole, Harold and Jonathon definitely raised the bar for what we call a disc golf tournament. As a result, other tournaments are striving for the notoriety captured by the USDGC (i.e. Discraft's The Players Cup ). The Japan Open obtained that notoriety years ago, however, the influence of that event stateside has been to a much lesser degree.

In addition to the Championship, Harold's course design has not only influenced other course designers, I believe his creation of the Winthrop Gold course has affected how players view "par". The existence of par 4's and 5's have been around for years, but the mindset amongst the pro ranks almost always defaulted to the par 3 mentality. I truly believe the Winthrop Gold course and the USDGC finally changed that mindset.

Kudos to Harold, Jonathon and the many other folks who make this spectacular event a reality... :)

I cannot express how exciting this is, as I am always looking for the best aspects of our great sport to show to sponsors (and potential sponsors)!

This definitely takes disc golf to the next level (that not even the PGA has yet!) Wow!

As the TD of the 2005 Pro Worlds, I can only say that the USDGC is what we all want our tournaments to be when they grow up!

Congratulations to the entire USDGC team. Incredible work!

Says there is a potential lost disc. According to Nick, there must not be enough spotters, or perhaps it is a problem with the course design. Even when you have lots of witnesses see it go into a Leland, I guess you can't always find it. According to Nick, it will be fairer for the player to go back to previous lie, because the player could get some kind of advantage from a favorable lie from the group...NOT!!! Prime example of why the new lost disc rule is overly punitive.

You tee off up and out of the woods, with several trees in your way when your trying to land your first shot(around the drop zone plus ob on both sides) then once u have your first or second shot it the best positon u have to throw up and over some 30 to 40 ft evergreens. there is no throwing threw. the evergreens

No problem with the design. I bet he was up in one of the evergreens and they could not see it. The spotter on the hole is positioned in front of the evergreen circle around ob, if the throw went up, over and into a tree then it can be lost very easy.
