I would like to make a really normal sized announcement.....stop singing while I am talking John.

The DFW Disc Golf Food Drive is now The North Texas Series.

It will get under way on Saturday December 3 at Z Boaz. This event will be a very unique event indeed. Not only will it be the series opener, but it also will be the site of The Second Good Times Chili Cook Off between rounds. It will also be the 2006 Z Boaz Bag Tag Final. And if all of that wasn't enough Ben Reynolds will deliver some of the finest smoked brisket in all of North Texas for you to enjoy while the 2nd round scores are totaled. Thats right you will be fed lunch and dinner at this event!!

It should be a really good time. This event will be a PDGA C-tier. Everyone will play 36 holes of golf. The ace pot starts at $684 since it went un-hit in the last few events of the previous series!!

The meeting will start at 9am.

Here are some more details on the series.

There are 9 events and the final for a total of 10 events this season. Seven of the ten will be sanctioned. All three of The Big Show Events will be part of the Series for the first time this season.

The final will be FREE again this season to those players that participate in 5 of the first 9 events. If you don't get your five events in you can pay the regular entry fee and still play the final. The final format will be the skins match like last season.

Here is the schedule for this season:

The North Texas Series Opener, a 1 day PDGA C-tier event at Z Boaz On Saturday December 3.
Event #2 The Poison Ivy Open on Saturday January 7.
Event #3 The Big Show @ Cedar Hill on Jan 28-29.
Event #4 The Big Show Midweek Event on Wednesday Feb 1 Location TBA.
Event #5 The 6th Z Boaz Open on Feb 4-5.
Event #6 Match Play @ Cedar Hill Saturday Feb 25.
Event #7 Crawford Park Saturday April 15.
Event #8 Paul Giles Memorial in Athens April 29-30.
Event #9 A to Z Doubles The Vet and Z Boaz May 13-14.
Event #10 North Texas Series Final Skins Match Saturday September 9 @ Z Boaz.

There will be more info in the next few days. I will work out all of the entry fee's and make online registration available very soon as well.

Disc Golf blues

I went down to the golf course
I couldn't wait to play
I ripped it high and let it fly
And my golf disc went away
I got the tee-off blues
With lots more discs to loose
wearing cleated shoes

I made it to the next hole
And tried my luck again
I ripped the disc and broke my hand
Man I just can't win
I've got the fairway blues
Got lots more of discs to use
I've paid my dues

Now I'm at hole three
Please stop watching me
This one flew straight and true
Untill it hit that tree
Another disc gone
I been lookin too long
My buddies are gone

I'm shootin a 107
I made it to hole 11
I threw it high an watched it turn hard
It landed in someone's back yard
I've got the big hyzer blues
I've got grass down in my shoes
I'm low on discs to loose

It was time to make a comeback
I'll use my putter to make a stand
I threw it real hard, it went less than a yard
Didin't work to good in the sand
I've got the 5 putt blues
Playin like a fool
Sand in my shoes

I was shooting hole 18
Hitting fairways in between
I threw a worm burner nice and low
Through the clubhouse window
I've got the hackers blues
No more golf discs to loose
Disc golf bag for sale- slightly used

Yeah, but the Conroe Ace pot might be closer to $1500, and **** near every hole on that course is an ace run...

Because June, July, and August are the absolute worst months to be anywhere in Texas (this could be expanded to any day and any month in Houston). It is tooooooooooooo hot to be playing DG in TX at that time.

Dang Brian, I saw that title and started to get excited. Then I realized you meant "Lower North Texas". J/K. ;)Seriously though, anytime you're in the area stop by and let me show you our course here and the potential for another quality course right next to the existing one. We're working hard on trying to persuade the City to install another (and maybe even some smaller short courses around town).

I spell my name with an i Frank.

I am offering you something for FREE , but you have to earn it. I think that most if not all of the players that qualified and played the FREE Final last season will tell you that it is worth it. The line has been drawn and it is not out of reach. If it is more events than you can make, it is still not that expensive to pay the entry fee.

In reality I have made it easier for most players by including all of The Big Show Events this season, not just the mid-week events as in the past.

Because that EZ-Z layout is as short as the Wed night mini and you should have to work for a good score at z-boaz.

What constitutes as a good score? That seems kind of vague. Also, if every player is playing from the same layout, what does it matter? Are you afraid that your game caters more to a long setup or are there specific holes in the short positions that you think are "bad" holes? The only short pin that I don't care for is hole 6. I think it may be too easy and doesn't allow for enough score variation through the field. Other than that, I like the other short pins and the EZ layout can make for some nice upshot practice.

You're the weenie!

Won't even let us have a few ace runs. How about 1s to 1L all day long. Same with 14s to 14L all day long. And while we are discussing ace runs, how about 11 to the center position all day long. :D

....and if you are talking about the lady who found a finger in her Wendy's Chili.......believe NOTHING that you read, and only half of what you see.

The Human Finger That Ended up In the Chili at Wendys-

True! But it was a Scam!

The Truth:
This was quite a saga and in the end turned out to be a scam.
On March 22, 2005, Anna Ayala said she was eating chili at a Wendy's restaurant in San Jose when she realized something strange was in her mouth.
It turned out to be a human fingertip.
Wendy's conducted an investigation as did health authorities and could not find any evidence that the finger had originated from anywhere within Wendy's.
Wendy's then hired a private investigator and offered a $100,000 reward to find the owner of the finger tip.
According to a 4/16/05 article in the Seattle Times, Ayala hired a lawyer to sue Wendy's but there were reports that she has a history of filing false claims against corporations and she dropped the lawsuit.
On April 22, 2005, police in Las Vegas took Anna Ayala into custody and made charges against her in connection with the finger in the chili.
Ayala protested her innocence but the mystery remained as to where the finger came from.
Then on 5/13/05 San Jose police announced that the finger was that of an acquaintance of Ayala's husband and had been lost in an industrial accident in December, 2004.
Then in September, 2005 both Ayala and her husband, Jaime Placencia, pleaded guilty to conspiring to file a false claim and attempted grand theft.
Wendy's says it has lost $2.5 million in sales and dozens of employees lost their jobs because of the hoax.

Dixon spit out on hole #14 the second round, and Anthony M. hit the ace on hole #18 the last round.

The last 5 ace pots at z-boaz have been taken down on hole #18 long.

The course was in the best shape I have seen it in a while, and Bens BBQ was the bomb.

It was a great day at the Mighty Z. That course that has "No Ace Runs" gives up another big stack of CASH $$$$ $1014 to Anthony Martinez. Between Sundays and The North Texas Series Opener That is over $3000 on hole 18 from the long tee as Chris stated!!!!

Matt Weinberg won The Second Good Times Chili Cook Off. It was GOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!

Ben Reynolds' brisket is un-surpassed.

Thanks to all of the participants.

Thanks for the good times MACE!

Nice comeback Chris!!!!! Especially since you gave me two more strokes on the 1st hole of round 2.

It's not that i blew a 3 stroke lead with 17 holes to go......you simply outplayed the field and the Almighty Z. :p

Pre-registration helps with events starting on time. Shorter player meetings help with events starting on time.

I'd like to see player meetings go like this:

"Thanks for coming out. Your course rules are on the back of your score card. I would like to clarify the 2 drop zones........

Thanks to so and so for all that they do at this course. Thanks to the cooks for the lunch that you will eat after the 1st round.

Thanks to all of the sponsors that help make these events great.

The ace pot is.........

Let's play some golf. Hole #1....Coda, Gardner, Maiuro, Hazel."

That would save about 30 minutes. And this isn't directed towards my good buddy Mace alone. It is directed to ALL tournament directors.

It is true there is a threat of finishing in the dark at Bear Creek. But I will do my part to make sure that we are ready to take registration in a time frame that will allow for all the people that do not pre-register to sign up and still start the meeting at 9am. One of those things will certainly be a very tight lunch schedule. I may also know a vendor that is willing to come out with a food cart to feed everyone, it will be fairly priced but so will whatever you drive off for.

One thing that can be done by the players to insure that we finish before dark is to pre-register. If you are sure you are going to play the event then register now here (http://www.maceman.com/) . Click Tournament Registration and you are there. It will also be available at titleDisc as well very soon.

The main reason I go through everything at the meetings is that if I didn't, it is inevitable that someone will be a victim of the ruling and say "oh that is BS. Why didn't you mention that". I want all of you to have a good time and things like that have a way of lingering with players, and it gives them the perception of a bad time when it was just a bad break. I never hear this anymore due to the fact that I Do Mention all of that at the meeting.

Hey Brian, be sure to mention when you are raffling off spots in the skins match that you don't get [I'm a potty-mouth!] if your name is drawn and you have already qualified. Not even a regular raffle prize. You don't want things like that to linger. :(

Pablo
Dec 06 2005, 12:32 PM
Jake is alive! What's up Jake? How's the fam?

maceman
Dec 06 2005, 02:56 PM
So Jake when you say "it's ok I am over it" you really mean you will never forget and never get over that you didn't win the only prize available in the drawing at that time due to the fact that you had already qualified for that prize rendering you un-eligible.

For those of you scoring at home here is what went down. A little background info is in order. I have run the Z Boaz Open 5 times. From the beginning we have had a skins match for the top 4 Open Women and top 4 Open Men. We invert the spots and have a 9 hole skins match, mixed doubles alternate shot. As far as I know the first of it's kind in Feb. 2001, and certainly the highlight of the event, we call it the Z Boaz Format Skins Match. I also ran an Event called Your Last Am Event and we held the same format skins for am players there. As I ran the Z Boaz Open for a couple of years I felt that it wasn't fair for the Am's to play less holes at Z Boaz than the alternate course (whatever it may be) if they are playing in The Z Boaz Open. So I split the event to two weekends. This also allowed for the am's skins match to be part if The Big Show.

I felt that this was a great opportunity for am's to get some time in the spotlight, but the ladies didn't see it that way and they showed it by not playing the event. This is where the problem arose from. There were only 3 women at the Am weekend last year leaving one team without a lady. I announced at the meeting on Saturday that one of the grand prizes in the raffle that weekend would be that final spot in the skins match. The drawing was held before the match started and this is where Jake got his grudge. One of his tickets was pulled for the spot, but he already had a spot because he was in the top 4 finishers in the Advanced division so we drew again. He felt that since his name was drawn that he was entitled to something, and stated that to Steve or Brad. I explained it to him then that he didn't have anything coming and he didn't agree he felt like "I should get something, you drew my ticket". I later explained it to him and he still felt he was entitled to something and I informed him that he wasn't. He reluctantly accepted that, and failed to move on.

The drawing you are complaining about again was for one thing and one thing only, a spot in the skins match. Not one other thing was raffled off at that time. You were already in the skins match due to your good play. There was NOTHING ELSE being raffled at the time and it was announced as such, therefore you did not qualify for anything else because you were already in possession of a spot in the skins match. The fact that you were drawn for a prize that you already had made you un-eligible for the only prize available at that time. That left you with nothing because there was no alternate prize, just the one and only one skins spot. To put it into terms that you may understand, you were not eligible for ANYTHING in that drawing so please move on and get over it. Your ticket went back in the box so you could be eligible for other drawings later, but you weren't in for anything at the time. Jake even suggested that he receive the other spot so he would be on two different teams...is this making sense to anyone?!?

I think that it is as redundantly clear today as it was on that day, you feel like you missed out when you were already in the line-up for the main event. That obviously wasn't enough for you and I am sorry.

The bottom line here is that I was running an event, I was giving away a prize in the only fair way available at the time, and you wanted more than you already had and that was not available to you. You were wrong then and you are wrong now.

First of all, the only reason I brought is up is because you were talking about making sure that everything is covered and that you never hear people calling BS.

Second, if you are going to quote me you had better make sure that you are accurate. When you use quotation marks that means you are quoting someone word for word. I find this far more frustrating than getting the shaft on the stupid raffle. It is an attempt to discredit me and I don't appereciate it.

And lastly, if anyone thinks that it is right to get your ticket drawn for the grand prize, and then get absolutley nothing because you played well that weekend can suck a fart out of my dunghole. :o

It's all about taking care of the players Brian. You actually wonder why you have not been very happy about your turnouts over the last couple of years.

We have always played 21 holes. There is three more alternates if attendance requires it.

We Can easily get it in before dark as long as all the people that sign up on Saturday show up before 8:30 AM to do so. Last year 65 people signed up on Saturday, this last weekend 62 people signed up on Saturday and we got it in both times so I am not worried.

So as I stated earlier, if you are planning on playing and you know it now than go to MACEMAN.COM (www.maceman.com) and click Tournament Registration and pre-register now. It will make things so much smoother....or we will deal with it as usual.

I would like to let everyone know about the developing details on The 5th edition of The Big Show.

Brad and I went and looked over the land on the north side of the tracks and found that we will not be able to use that area for a temporary course. The mountain bikers have put in a lot of time, energy, and money to establish a series of trails and jumps. I know how I would feel if they attempted to come in and take over in our area so I will not go any further on that consideration.

That means we will use Weatherford for the second course at The Z Boaz Open. The scouring will be similar, although Z Boaz presents a greater challenge overall. The drive time is only 17 minutes from Z Boaz parking lot.

Here are the details as they stand.
North Texas Series Event #3 The Big Show @ Cedar Hill on Jan 28-29. This will be the opening event of The 2006 edition of The Big Show. This event will take place at the beautiful 36-hole Lester Lorch Park In Cedar Hill TX. It will host all divisions. This is a 72-hole two-day event. Everyone will play The Coyote and The Beaver twice. Friday Pick Doubles flex between 3pm and 4pm. (PDGA B-tier) Jr $25 Rec $30 Int $40 All Adv $50 All Open $60

The Big Show Hockey Outing Monday January 30. Dallas Stars VS San Jose Sharks @ 7:30pm. The tickets are better than ever before Rows C and D in the balcony. Minimum of 25 tickets available, first paid first served. If you are a hockey fan you dont want to miss this. Price is TBA.

North Texas Series Event #4 The Big Show Midweek Event on Wednesday Feb 1 Location TBA.
(C-tier) All Am Divisions $35 All Open Divisions $50

The Big Show Clinic. This event will take place at Bear Creek Park on Thursday February 1. This will be one of the highlights of The Big Show 2006. Two Time World and US Disc Golf Champion Barry Schultz will be on hand as well top ladies competitor Carrie Burlager and many other top disc golfers to work with you on your game. There will be two sessions, mid day and late afternoon. This will be your best opportunity to interact with some of the games best players live and in person. The best thing is that its FREE.

North Texas Series Event #5 The 6th Z Boaz Open on Feb 4-5. This event will be the first big event of the year in the DFW Area. The anchor event of The Big Show, this year will see the return of all divisions on the same weekend. It has not been finalized yet but we will use either the 18-Hole Layout at Weatherford or an 18-Hole Layout on the north side of the train tracks. That will be determined in the coming weeks. Friday Pick Doubles flex between 3pm and 4pm. This event will include the Z Boaz Format Skins Match for the Top 4 Open women and men to close The Big Show in grand fashion. (PDGA A-tier for all divisions) Jr $30 Rec $35 Int $50 All Adv $65 Open GM $80 Open Master $90 Open Men and Women* $100 *Each Open Woman receives $30 sponsorship from Disc Golf Her.

I will take the distance into consideration, but there would have to be another grass fire to keep you from getting to the course in 17 minutes. Z Boaz is still at the edge of town for now, so it will be smooth sailing.

I think the most challenging is the one with the CRAPPY BASKETS!!!! :D

okcacehole
Dec 23 2005, 10:32 AM
They aren't the best, but if you can putt on those...it only makes the rest look HUGE..

Check out JD...he used to live out there and it paid off

Dec 23 2005, 12:08 PM
Yeah, audubon has some crappy baskets, but like they said if you can putt there, you can putt anywhere.

offtopic story about JD, the first time I ever went to play discgolf, i bought a crappy driver and an X-out putter, this is before i ever played. I go to Springfield in rowlett, and run into JD walking up to hole 1. i immediatley ask "you play disc golf!? how many discs do you have?" like that question mattered. So my first round of golf i ever played, i played with JD, and it blew my mind on how far he could throw. kinda inspired me to start playing seriously. Started practicing with him as much as possible, but now that he moved into dallas its harder.

now back on topic. Garland Parks and Recreation are going to Level all the pads, and eventually replace baskets. they say this because that the city is installing a sewer line through the park but it starts up in the north end of garland. so it will be months out. It is said to directly affect 2 of the holes. we will see

The only thing that makes Auto hard is the fact that the baskets let discs fly out of the back side other than that it is a bunch of 3's maybee one or two 4's and five or six 2's.

And I would say that JD is just a talented player. You don't see any other good players coming off of those courses.

okcacehole
Dec 24 2005, 02:37 AM
because it is relatively unplayed by any tour golfer.,...

Par on this course in singles is a great average...and there are not too many that can claim that

I hope to shoot -2 or better in 2006

Dec 24 2005, 03:15 AM
im happy with 5 up, and [I'm a potty-mouth!] my pants if any lower. although ive been playing for only 5 months. My average on that course is probably 7

Shaine
Dec 27 2005, 01:07 PM
I'm going to have to agree!! That is one of the toughest course to shoot down on in the area and probably the most challanging course this side of US Hwy 635. Always seems to be windy and man is it long. If the City of Garland would clean it up, replace the baskets and put down some cement tee's, it would be even better.

#1 birdable
#2 simi hard 3
#3 simi hard 3
#4 simi simi 2
#5 do or die 2 to 4
#6 simi hard 3
#7 hard 3
#8 simi hard 2 (over 300 ft hole)

#10 must get bird
#11 hard 2

#14 simi hard 3
#15 simi easy 3 (although I can birdie it with a roller)

without any boggies, you should be under, there is just way to much trouble on that course. My best is without any 4's.

Matt,

Save your money and come to Cedar Hill and Z-Boaz in a couple of weeks(back to back weekends). CH is a B-tier on two sweet courses, and Z-Boaz is a supertour on one okay course, and one MIGHTY course!

Yeah your right but the ctiers around here you get like 185 for winning and there are only like 7 players. :D

http://www.pdga.com/documents/td/05TourStandards.pdf

Scroll down to c-tier and read. It's $50 to the pdga just for sanctioning, plus $2 per player to the pdga. Also, only 85% of the entry fee has to be returned to the players.

The rule changes for 2006 will be in effect. Here are some rules that will come into play:

Make sure your supporting point is DIRECTLY through the center of your mini.

Lost disc will equal stroke and distance. You won't be able to play it where you last saw it.

You can't touch/remove ANYTHING that is in between you and the target/basket EVEN IF IT IS IN YOUR STANCE!

See you at the players meeting b/c you are required to know what is said........yeah right. :D
