Apr 05 2006, 06:35 PM
I f you are coming in from the North / Northwest of Dallas.
From Downtown Dallas, take I-45 South.
The first exit after I-30 is US 175/Martin Luther King Blvd.
Take that exit, but stay on 175 when Martin Luther Kings splits off.
Follow 175 to the Elam Rd exit.
Go left on Elam Rd (back under 175).
You will see the park on the right before you reach Prairie Creek Rd.
Go right on Prairie Creek to the second parking lot (past the soccer fields).
The course starts near the far left corner of the parking lot.

If you are coming in on I-20 from the west, take the St. Augustine exit and go North. Follow the major lanes to the left when prairie creek splits from St. Augustine.

After you cross US 175 (first overpass) the park is on your left. When you clear the trees and see the soccer fields, u-turn back to the parking lot.

From I-20 East of I-635,
Follow I-20, the first exit after I635 is US 175.
Take the St. Augustine exit.
Go across St. Augustine on the frontage road.
The exit for Prairie Creek is immediately after going under the underpass (Prairie Creek).
Turn left on Prairie Creek.
When you clear the trees and see the soccer fields, u-turn back to the parking lot.

If you are coming from South of Dallas on I-35 or I-45, when you get to I-20 go east and follow the I-20 from the west directions.

If you are in NE Dallas, From I-635 southbound just before it ends, take the Elam Rd. exit.
Turn right on Elam Rd. (west) to Prairie Creek.
Turn left on Prairie Creek, go past the soccer fields and turn right into the parking lot.

Apr 15 2006, 10:03 PM
Sure did...Todd and I helped clear out about 4 or 5 holes on the front 9 one day...though they have still been made better each day...we did help...and could do more..

many said they loved the course and many didn't...a true sign of one great course..so challenging that it tests the mind and the arm..

where were you Pinkie?...I am sure you have helped also...don't call a brother out...I donated to the raffle to see more results...I played the event and I have chopped trees..

If I was close I would do more and I will do more either way...

Crawford can be more amazing than it already is...the back 9 is amazing...

I would like to thank everyone for coming out. It was a great day. Again thanks is in order to Steve Wallace, Gary Duke, and Stick for all they are doing and have done to make Crawford a reality.

Those of you that golf the East Side of DFW and stayed away are truly missing out. The future of disc golf is not open fields and double digits under. As long as you don't play courses like Crawford, Cedar Hill, and Z Boaz your game will stay where it is and you will be left behind. If you play these courses and learn that side of the game you will excel.

I would like to wish every a happy Easter. I hope you all get to spend some time with your loved ones.

Those that don't like the course prolly can't throw straight :o

Favorate shots of the day

#18 blue, DX Orc turned over real nice and threaded its way through the trees to land 40ft from the basket on the side of the hill. (missed the putt low dangit :o)

#10 Red, JLS straight down with a slight turnover. It hyzered out right at the tree line (on the back of the hole) and got knocked right now, 20 ft from the baskets. (dang it, I missed this putt too :o)

#12 White, CE JLS straight up the middle landed in the rut on the left side of the basket. 30ft out and 30ft down. Hit the chains but was spit :o

#2 Blue, CE 1st run Firbird (you know the red ones) great hyzer threading through the trees. Everyone spent almost 3 minuets (maybe longer but no one called it) and Giggler spotted it under the leaves 40ft from the basket. No shot at all for the bird, trees blocking the shot.

Birds I did hit, White #16, Red #17, White #11

Your showing your age there with the JLS :D

#10 Blue, #12 either teepad, #13, #14 and #18 are my favorites..you just don't see holes like that around here

take a little power off and throw it straight or you will pay...

Good Times!

What about 16??? I wish we could have played the Blue tee pad on that one.

How about #14. I throw my drive all the way to right before the drop off. My simple putter up shot going right of the basket but goes long down the path. Now I am 3 strokes in the lead looking at a 30ft putt with a HUGE drop off behind the basket.

I miss of course, the disc rolls down the hill to the bottom and where to you think it landed. Yep, right behind some trees so I had no shot at the basket.

My hyzer up shot almost its a tree on the edge of the hill for another roll, but It goes long instead. it bounded and if it were not for a root, it would have been right back down the hill again.

I putt another 30ft putt and missed again.

I make an easy 3 into a 6 and suddenly was tied for 1st with Kevin Geeza.

That was my worst played hole for the day.

Who was complaining about the courses?

I think that they rocked. Even though I could not hit a line for my life that second round. We have enough wide open -10 courses in the D/FW area and it is nice to see a new challenging course in Texas.

Apr 16 2006, 01:08 PM
I had the same thing on #14 Pizza, but is was for a 4...threw a great shot all the way down the trail and to the bottom of the washout area...then a nice put uphill to run a 2 and hope for 3...NOPE...over-shot it by a foot or more and down the hill behind..

I really wanted to run the 3 putt, but thought that if I missed that I would be back in the washout area again, so I bounce of the front and took the 4

I love the course, nobody get me wrong on that. I just heard some players saying different things, but I think they are on the lines of being used to a birdie every other hole.

I had 1 birdie all day long and that was a great ace run on #17 White, 2nd round.

A few will be getting Golds, most will be getting alternate tees. There will be A & B tees (R, W,& B) on most holes. Basically the same length and challenge as the existing tees, but a different shot.

So guys and gals, the Paul Giles Memorial is upon us and there has been very little chatter going on. If you plan on staying in Athens over the weekend, book your rooms now. There is a tradeshow in Canton this coming weekend and hotels are going to be tight. If you have trouble finding a hotel room, then I have two suggestions: Tyler hotels are open and the drive is only 34 miles, or post you are looking for a place. there are several Tylerites with floor space. I have one home that has promised room for Advnced Masters division. So let me know and I will get you in touch with the individual.

Also, please post if you plan on making the tournament. Maceman will be taking entrys on Saturday morning, but keep in mind that this event has filled, or been very close to filling for the past four years. To pre-register go to Titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com/Events/2006_NorthTXSeries_8.php)

Apr 24 2006, 03:38 PM
<font color="green">Yes, I did get the check, but I haven't cashed it yet. Thank you for "being good for it". See you at the Giles! </font> :p

Apr 24 2006, 03:51 PM
<font color="green"> Any of you guys wanting to camp out, we have some spaces at our place just outside of Athens (we will have to charge 5-10 bucks a person to camp though - although camping at our place will probably come with some "ice-cold refreshments" on the house) and there are also a few places inside Athens where you can camp, like the Scuba Park. If you want to stay at our place, just PM me and let me know along with your phone number or something. I will get back with you this week before Friday. If you still need a place to stay come Friday night, just let me or my wife know and we will see if we can't help you out. </font>

Apr 24 2006, 11:54 PM
anyone interested in the Jacksonville course needs to contact one of the Tyler guys before going out there. We just finished re-designing the first nine holes, but it is not marked with signs yet. If you go out thewre by yourself your probably not going to be able to find your way around. It should be 18 holes by the end of the year, but right now is very much a work in progress. Dont let the posted players list fool you. I personally know of over a dozen more of the Z-Boaz clan that will be in attendance. All of you out there looking for a pre-Athens warm up, come out to Z-Boaz tonight for a 6 p.m. tee time. The mini is 8 dollars for all divisions, and the ace pot is working it's way towards the triple digits. Short tee's are being played tonight , so come on out and have some fun.

For all of you out there that think you got game ....
Come to Z-Boaz tonight . The tenth highest rated pro in the world, Chris Sprague, will be in attendance ( player rated 1023 ). Come see how you measure up with one of the Big Boys.

Do Brian a favor and sign up today on line.

<font color="blue">Brian,
Will you be coming in tomorrow night for a doubles round too? I am sure many of the guys from around here would probably sign-up then for Sat. & Sun. </font>

Anyone going to Athens tomorrow that is staying in DFW close to Veteran's Park, maybe you can swing by and pick up a 10x Teebird of Chris Sprague's...I'm sure he would be very grateful. I found it on hole 10 Coyote in Cedar Hill. I can put it in the mailbox for someone to take to him; just give me a buzz on the cell tonight if anyone is making that trip. If not, please tell Chris to give me a call and I'll ship it or get it to him.

Thanks,
Derek

Hard weekend for Jack and I, but Jack stepped it up to move into a tie for third. I just plodded along.

I did want to point out the 7th place winner in recreational div was a 14 year old and Youngest at the tournament. He beat players in their twenties, thirties AND fourties. This is his second tournament to play up from junior and he cashed. And what was the name? Ian Power!!!

Someday I may be able to live vicariously in his wins.(overly proud father)

Brian, thanks for all your hard work this weekend. what a great time and weather we had even those temp holes 15a - 15e ripped me a new one all weekend. thanks also to lew and the athens crew, the course looked and played great. i forgot how nice this park is. also thanks to jerry power and everyone from tyler who helped out( jerry, your sons gonna be a real good one). the neverending work these people do to put on a disc golf event for us to come have a good time is very much appreciated. without those willing to step up and donate time and effort this wouldnt be possible. thanks again to all.

We would like to thank you all for cleaning up after yourselves all weekend. This is the first year that there was NO trash scattered over the course after all was said and done. Thanks for coming out and we hope we are able to see you guys next year. Oh, those of you who have lost discs in the ponds around 15A, 10 & 13, we have found some of them and we'll be back in the water to find more. If you had a phone number on your disc, we'll call you asap. If you only had your pdga number, we'll look you up and contact you that way. Thanks again for coming out.

Can we see some round ratings please? :)

These are estimates ONLY and once Brian gets the paper work done, they should compare well to the PDGA calculated ratings.

Brian,

There are one or two PDGA numbers that are incorrect in your PDGA spreadsheet. I have corrected them here.

I just looked at the format for A-Z dubs and was wondering if someone could clarify a couple things for me. "The formats will be Best Shot, Alternate, Team Score, and the Evil Format (best, alternate, and worst)". So what is the Team Score, a round of singles adding the scores together?
The evil format is 6,6,6, and will everyone play the same 6 with the same format? Is the worst shot just the furthest out? I am a little new to the doubles action, any help would be appreciated.

Team Score = Singles, with the team taking the better score of the two individuals.

Worst shot is not necessarily furtherest out. If you're 50' from the basket in the deep, dark schule and your partner is 75' from the basket in the fairway, have fun in the jungle.

So who makes the decision on the worst shot?

the other team on the card is obligated to choose the worst of your two throws.

still want 18 holes of that..it was only a 4hr round last year :D

and +13 was a good score :o

tbender

the other team on the card is obligated to choose the worst of your two throws.

And both members of your team have to make the putt.

maceman
May 02 2006, 11:25 AM
You are right on the worst shot part, It is a judgment call that is made by the team you are playing with. They decide witch lie is the worst, and if they are found to be giving the easiest shot to your team they can be disqualified.

Team Score IS NOT the way you stated. It is singles and it is both scores added together to get team score. Therefore if you take a 3 and your partner takes a 2 then your team score on the hole is 5.

The evil format will be played in the following way, you will play holes 1 through 6 Alternate Shot, 7 through 12 Worst Shot, and 13 through 18 Best Shot doubles. This will take place at The Vet.

Come and get it!!

are you going to require both putts to go in on worst shot or just one like last year?

my_hero
May 02 2006, 12:47 PM
Bender was thinking of Best Disc....not TEAM SCORE. Par is 6 in team score.

As for Worst Shot....both putts must be made. Tough Shot requires only one of the putts to fall.

:mad:As of right now, only half of the defending Open champs will be making it. :mad:I'm hurt. Need to rest.

I first played it in Tulsa Quad Doubles in 97 or 98. I threw the idea by Mace last year, and it looks like he liked it well enough to use it this year. It definitely helps weed out unbalanced teams....... :p

It seams like a fun format and I think that it will keep you on your toes through more of the event. That meaning you can't take any of those holes off so to speak.

In worst shot both putts must go in. I think that the full round you are remembering was tough shot, where you only have to make one putt. Alternate will be hard enough at the Mighty Z. The evil format will be more than enough at The Vet.

You can now view the results and estimated round ratings from PGM here. (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=5587)

Just a quick note, this Sunday at 3 pm there will be a Good Times Picnic at the Mighty Z. The entry is $15 and that includes your contribution to the meat fund and a High Tech Moisture Wicking T-shirt with a new Good Times Design. Please bring something to add to the menu and everyone that is looking for a good time. We will play one round with any one disc of your choice from the short tee's. I hope to see you there. :D

We will be limiting the field to 54 teams total , so all of you people who like to wait until the last minute to sign up might miss out. We had 38 teams last year and from the talk I've heard this year we will exceed that. This is a very fun event to participate in and we hate to turn people away, but without a large amount of pre-registration it's difficult to do things to accomadate a larger field. We'll see how turnout is this year and make arrangements next year if it looks like we'll exceed the 54 team number.

We told everyone last year we'd do a little something for all of the players that were there, after looking at the logistics of getting all those people together again we decided to just do something for everyone this year. We haven't nailed down exactly what, but it could range from lunch for everyone on Sunday to a cold keg. I'll let you know as soon as we have it figured out. I can't wait to be a part of this fun, yet grueling, event again this year.

SIGN UP EARLY OR THERE'S A GOOD CHANCE YOU WON'T GET TO PLAY!!!!

do you have a players list yet??

May 05 2006, 12:40 PM
I entered the 24 hole profile, no specifics, but it is set on a 24 hole format.

Very interesting. I am willing to bet there is a problem with the online calcs for 24 hole setups. If you look at averages alone, the average player rating and the average round ratings should be close and they are pretty significantly off.

You only need to concern yourself with team Sandaldog. We will be signing up this weekend.

dont you mean team filthydog... parker and I will be there along with Jack and his twin Kevin... if there are only 3 or 4 teams we will be playing ADV.

geez dog, did you notice how quickly they're trying to get away from team sandaldog? skeered, they are. they should at least keep the money in the division for the skins match. but that would mean they're smart. actually, if team sparker and team jackin really wanted to maximize their chances of winning, they would play at their skill level in MA2.

It could be they aren't hiding out in a age protected division :oEven 'ol Charles Cox went and grabbed his old partner for this one so they can't play OMB either.

The line has been crossed and we will not be adjusting the field or the way you will play. We will draw the line at 54 teams. If you want to play than you better get your money in and reserve your spot.

I will be at the back pavilion at The Vet on Friday afternoon to run Tough Shot Friday Doubles. This will start at 6pm. You can sign up at the same time.

Here is the list as it stands. I know of a few people that are going to sign up today at The Good Times Picnic.

MA1 Shawn Wooten
MA1 Steve Martin
MA1 Michael Brownlow 28097
MA1 Stephen Brownlow

MM1 Pat Brenner 10403
MM1 Clay Brumit 10293

The frantic phone calls are coming in......"can I sign up on Saturday".....I say "not likely, but you can take your chances". This may sound like a broken record, but you will want to have the signing up process completed on Friday or you may be very disappointed. If that is something you can live with then I encourage you to wait until the last possible minute.

The updated list is up here. (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=5588#Open) I combined the manes so it would keep them together.

There is one mixed team that has signed up in Rec.

Question: I'm on one of the teams rated over 915 for MA2, but my question is I've played in one sanctioned tournament, but my partner for the A to Z has never played in a tournament, or even in a mini... so how do you decide in which division you should play. Going just off my rating I don't think does justice to the skill level of the team as a whole. But I don't know the actual regulations governing this type of doubles format, if there are any available.

gnduke
May 12 2006, 04:21 AM
PDGA Rules for doubles
http://www.pdga.com/rules/doubles.php

No mention of ratings, but normally all members of a team have to qualify for the division the team is registered in. That generally means the highest rated member determines the division of the team.

You should step up and play advanced.
Better players, better competition = better for your golf game.

This is a subject that I discussed with David Gentry of The PDGA, and he says that the players should play in the division they are rated at, because it is not fair to the other players that are playing at their rating.

There is not plenty of room, we are at 35 teams and counting.

I will post an updated list later.
