Brian,

I got to play this morning and #13 is great where it is now...it pretty much forces you to go down the middle, but actually gives you more of a possibility for birdie if you hit that right gap just right with a forehand.

Where in the world is the alternate for #7? I looked all over that fairway for another sleeve, and can't fathom where another basket could go. I really like that hole, so hopefully it doesn't make it drastically shorter.

BTW the Coyote round was going slow and I was at even heading into "birdie alley" as I like to call 13-18, where I do most of my damage. Wanting to shoot -4, I told myself just birdie 4 of the 6. I ended up doing it the hard way, carding 2's on 13-15, 4'd 16, then 2'd 17 & 18. I always try to make life as hard as possible.

The courses weren't all that muddy, except for the teepad on 6 Beaver. I had to throw from the side. But the course looks great. I can't wait to play in the event.

[crossing fingers for good weather]

13 is now an awesome hole (IMHO)! I really like how it turned out. I think the lenght of the hole is now perfect.

The alternate for 7 is longer. As you get out of the trees, look past the current postition and right. It is back against the tree line with the spillway behind it.

When I move basket number 6 on the Coyote last night I noticed that huge tree limb that had fallen. Was it still there or did the city get it today?

I'll be cleaning the tee pads and am thinking of adding a section of garden gutter blocking a couple of the tee pads that get some run-off. Specifcally, Beaver holes 5, 6 & 13. I'll also be replacing all of the tee sign maps this week with new, laminated, maps.

Later,
Brian

Yeah, that tree was still there. I actually yanked my upshot right of the basket and it was STUCK under that thing! I was lucky to save the 3, let alone get the disc out from under the branch. I agree on #13. Too many people were either trying a spike hyzer or something else crazy, or missing the intended route and flinging it through the right trees and still coming up with 3's.

PS I still believe in a roller on Coyote 8. If for no other reason than it's VERY hard to get a roller stuck above 2 meters.

The 2 courses are great. Elevation, water, woods, open, tight..etc. Probably the best single park to golf at in the DFW area....mainly b/c you usually have all 85 acres, and 36 holes to yourself(disc golfers.)

Just watch out for these guys....

Hey Jeff, do yourself a favor and play this course sometime. That big arm of yours will not be used much out @ Cedar Hill. Lots of finesse needed to do well on this course. You will love it .

Yes there is a mini this weekend. Its on Saturday at 3:00. Signs up start at 2:30. We will play the ????? course (I need to look at the book and see the last course we played). If there are enough AM's, there will be an AM field.

I'll add some incentive. There will be a CTP for the AM's only this Saturday if enough people show up to constitute an AM field. That means 3.

Hey,
There buddy the question of the day is why won't they allow the Lone Star Series to come to cedar hill he was wanting to come in may. I was told this would be to much to organize I don't think that is it at all. I was told three tournaments a year at cedar hill was enough. I personally take it as a compliment that more people are wanting to host their tournaments at the hill. I'm not sure how it works but If I was rick I would call the city of Cedar Hill and see what steps I could take to make it possible. We wonder why there isn't alot of support for cedar hill. Maybe it's because we don't allow people from out of town to run tournaments at one of the best courses in Texas. I think this is crap and a good reason why I and others won't participate in the minis. We need to open the doors to the disc golf community if someone wants to host a tourn then let them if it's too much work then maybe somebody else needs to step up and take charge out there. Lets at least call Rick back and say no instead of ignoring him and avoiding his calls. Cedar Hill is one of the best courses in texas and we should promote it any way we can.

Oh $h!^ i missed the putt oh well!!!!!

I would like to see more support at Cedar Hill. I would admit that I have not been there as much as I would like. Brian Needs to be there - Good for Disc Golf , Good for the local support.

Wow where do I begin. How about, for some reason, I expected better from you Josh. To come on the board and say such nice things about me when you had the chance to say it to my face on Sunday but chose not to. Interesting. And Im the rude one?

You take it as a compliment that that more people want to host an event at the hill, one of the best courses in Texas, but Im doing a bad job and need to let someone else take over.

I dont let people from out of town run events in Cedar Hill yet of the 5 major tournaments that have been held there, two were run by someone from the San Marcos area. Is that local?

You think its crap and thats why you, and others, dont play minis. Also interesting. Again, youve had ample time to say this to my face but choose not to. And who are these other people? Is it really because I dont let outsiders run events in Cedar Hill (which is not accurate)? Thats a silly reason. You play the courses regularly but choose not to support the club that does most of the work at the park.

Oh, I forgot about this little comment. Don't forget the city of CH is out there alot. Picking up trash empting trash cans cutting trees, unlocking the park. When no one is to be found.. Im really not sure what to think of this comment since the city has only cut a couple of trees down, that I asked them to cut, and empty the trash cans half of the time. Other times, I take a day off of work to pile the bags in the parking lot so they can pick them up from there. Unlocking the park? What? They unlock the park, like all of the other city parks daily. Except for days when they forget and I run down their and open the gate. Am I supposed to spend even more time than I do at the park now to avoid the when no one is to be found tag? By the way, our golf course is the second largest park within their responsibility, yet it is the park with the least amount of issues. Why is that? Its because of those of us that really care.

Lets at least call Rick back and say no instead of ignoring him and avoiding his calls. Boy, this will teach me to miss returning one phone call. I believe I mentioned that I forgot to call him back because our conversation reminded me that I had done that.

For the record, Rick and I talked yesterday at length. But I guess youd rather go on and on about stuff you only have part of the information to.

Yes, my thinking is that another tournament right now might be a bit much for me. You have no idea what I do with the city or with the courses to prepare for a tournament. You also have no idea of the issues in my personal life right now that make the time I need to devote to a tournament hard to come by. Plus, there are plans for other events that you are not aware of. Not only am I planning a Cedar Hill Disc Golf Association sanctioned event there are discussions for a couple of other potential events. Only time will tell if they will happen or not.

You are right about one thing, lots of blood sweat and tears went into the courses that you play all the time.

Also, your comment about going behind my back to go straight to the parks department says a lot about who you are. For the record, anyone going to the parks department is referred to me. I handle disc golf related reservations for the park. Its part of our agreement.

Get all of the facts or stop talking.

Before Kinter even chimes in..........I'm sitting in the lobby of one of my vendors on my laptop, not on one of my infamous sales calls ;).

Let me make this as clear as I can, this is not a personal attack on Josh or anyone else. It is simply me venting frustration over the "politics" and misinformation of this wonderful sport.

As you know, on top of my involvement in the ADGA, I am also pretty involved with CH and help out Mace and other TD's/courses whenever I have the time. This gives me the pleasure of seeing more than my fair share of rumors and false information that flow so well throughout the DG community. Brian called me to ask my opinion on Rick coming up to run an event since I had dealt with him in the past. My response was that Rick was a good person to do business with (he really helped us out at the VPO) and it was his decision if he wanted to have another event there. I also told him to keep in mind that he and I are working on holding an event at CH that the club can call it's own and we have to be careful about overloading one place with so many tournaments. Most courses in the area only have one or two large events a year because if you have too many people get tired of playing the same coures and/or traveling to that location. I know I wouldn't want to play a tournament at the same course more than twice a year and as an organizer I don't want attendance at any of the events to suffer because I made the decision to have 6 events in one year at the same place.

Bottom line is if Brian decides that this is the best decision for the CHDGA in terms of revenue and exposure then it will definately happen. You're definately going to see more events out there, they just may not happen to be Lone Star or North TX events, instead they will be CEDAR HILL events run by the club, which is a good thing :D.

Did you see the footage of the "pet" that knocked down Emac's two finger roller on hole #10 (Beaver.) If not, let me reiterate....Emac throws his drive down the left side of the fairway. The left side shule ultimately grabs his disc and forces him to throw a "2 finger roller" for his next shot. He pulls it off perfectly...the disc is rolling right towards the basket until...... *bump*, *jump*, *wobble-wobble*, and falls over 35' away instead of right underneath the target. DGTV pans to Emac and asks "What did you hit?" Emac quickly answers..."a hamster." It was classic! :D

The Q's supported that park in great ways. Don spent as much time out there on a saw as Brian and I did to get those 2 courses in the ground, not to mention his lovely wife hauled off her fair share of trees and cut down MILES of briar. Between your family, the workhorse better known as Julie and her husband, AKA "The Supervisor", there were thousands of volunteer hours put in that will never be forgotten. To me that is something that makes CH so special, it was designed and put in with effort from everyone that wanted to be involved.

RANT: My appointment was for 2:15 and I'm still sitting in the lobby at 2:45. If I get stuck in Dallas traffic I won't be able to play any golf this afternoon .

Call me if you can play.

Hopefully the city will have cleaned off the tee pads and put in the new maps. Oh wait. Thats what I do.... ;)

I've told you a million times thank you if your too busy and you need help all you have to do is ask. I'm simply stating that when we talked on saturday you acted like you wanted no part of Rick or his tournament. Yes it rubbed us the wrong way. I'm sorry to make it sound like your a bad guy I didn't mean it that way. I will say though I stand by what I say I think if people want to use your course let them!!!! Thats why your in the position that your in is for the love of the sport. If you hadn't walked off from our conversation I would have said everthing to your face. Instead you walked off while I was talking to you. I was wowed by the way you acted when I asked about Rick and the idea of him bringing a tournament here. BL and i posted simultaneously. I just couldn't bring myself to say what i wanted to. Good riddance.

If you think he's quick at posting you should see him when one of his "pets" get loose

Emac says you coached him you SOB...... :)

I'm still sitting here and I'm starting to get very upset. I am trying to give these people a $12,000.00 job that will take 20 minutes to explain and the person I need to speak with is on a conference call. It's a metal fabrication shop not a fortune 500 company for F'ing sakes.

The best thing that anyone can do to help the club is to play the mini. Its not much, but that little bit of profit that goes to the club will help us to host tournaments in the very near future. If people dont play, I may have to only have outsiders run events and offer no mini's. That's all I ask from people. Play the mini. In the very near future I'll have a full blown organized work day to help complete a hole. When that day comes, I'll take all the help I can get and I'll spring for the refreshments.

As far as letting people use the course goes, there is a very real saturation issue I do not want that to happen in Cedar Hill. It is a fantastic place and I want people to look forward to specific events so they can be huge.

I walked off because I sure thought we were done and because Skeeter had been trying to call me over to talk to them. Sorry, but I thought we were done.

For the record, yesterday was the first time anyone, including Rick had mentioned a date. My past conversations with him had been very vague and only possible scenerious. That's why I wasnt concerned about it because there had been no "real" talk to that date.

Still calling for my ouster?

Brian,
Your still off my Christmas List and I will probably not be carded with you again . Your a great guy(I like you man). You know I can't wait for a membership drive I think its great and would love to be a part of it. I have only done 2 workdays out at CH, so to everybody else Thank You. Now for the sweet part. I am privey to what was said this weekend and can see both sides of the wall i.e. eager discgolfer versus planning and work good combo maybe. Josh is a great guy as I'm sure we all know as least I have for a couple yrs now. So I understand where he is coming from and I also can see where everybody else is coming from including you. I do not know Mr.Chamberlin but can see he too is very active with the inner workings of these type issues. I believe we have some folks that have just out right fell in love with "The Country Club", myself included. I think we are just wanting as many people as possible to enjoy it, but I understand park saturation as well. You know whatever I can do to help just holla if it will free up any extra time for you to make any of the discussed issues from the previous 5 pages available I'll help. Just hope I the Great BigeasyE didn't #$*&$! anybody off. Oh and by the way I did beat you by a stroke Ha.

I "Think" I did a workday out there, didn't I???

Anyways, In my opinion, there should not be more than 1 PDGA event at any course. (different formats are cool) When I say PDGA, I mean large 2 day events. I have no problem with a large B-tier (MaceMan event) then a smaller one day C-tier or club event 6 months later. Any more and you tire out the course. They days of 2 to 3 events a year at one course are over.

On top of that, it is harder to get sponsorship when you tax them several times a year. This goes for the City too.

Also, Brian is the course Pro, he gets final say on what tournaments get held at the course. Rick knows it would be a good place to run a tournament so he calls Brian up. That is exactly what Rick should do. And Brian did what he thought was best for his course.

The same think happened in Carrollton when Tim W took over tournaments at Greenbelt. John Houck ran the TEXAS STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS in Carrollton for a few years, he also ran a few Circular Skies tours here. But Tim started up the Carrollton Charity Cup Classic and asked John not to run tournaments here now that the club was established.

I am now course pro for both Carrolton Courses. I have let both the Texas 10 and MaceMan run events out here in the past. However, I would only let one other even in a given year other than the Carrollton Open.

a few weeks it was playing the coyote in a light rain.
then came the week of the dust storm that completely blocked the sun and turned bright afternoon into lung clogging dusk.

today the beaver was the setting for one of the most incredible experiences yet. it is april in texas, the time of bluebonnets and fields of wildflowers and indications of the inevitable heat blast. but today nine of us played in near freezing temperatures as nickel-sized snowflakes revealed the intricacies of the shifting winds on their descent to the tall, spring-thickened meadow grass.

we had three cards of three spread out so that each would pretty much have the course to themselves. the omg/ygb crew was finishing up and a few small groups of casuals were back on the coyote.

cedar hill has offered up some incredible moments. it is a magical place. and today it offered us one of its most truly astounding and completely unexpected gifts yet. it was something to see and be a part of. i hope Lester Lorch looks down and reads this and sees how well the stewards of his donation are fulfilling his wishes. thank you doesnt even begin to say what needs to be said.

Sounds awesome. I was able to enjoy the same experience minus the "alone in the woods" feeling, and the natural beauty that CH can bring. I met teammate, and ex-Texan Adam Goodman at the Vet around noon. The park was packed! The big snow flakes were cool.

I have to say that this weekend was just awesome, snowflakes falling on the bluebonnets in April who would of thunk. To think without all the hard work put in out there I would have never been able to enjoy such an awesome day of golf, on such a great course

Very cool!!!!

I've seen three of the four varieties of poisonous snake down there. I'm still looking for my first Coral Snake.

One Rattle Snake adventure really freaked me out one day. I was on hole 3 of the Beaver course just messing around and unloaded my bag, putters and all, from the tee. One of my lazier shots hyzered into the trees pretty hard. As I approached the tree line I was looking for my disc and not really paying attention I heard a hiss. I looked down and no more than two feet from my right foot was a four or five foot rattle snake. It never attempted to strike but he was sure letting me know that he was there. I slowly pulled my foot away and he turned and crawled back into the trees. I then picked up my crap and went home (with my disc from the trees).

was out at the hill this weekend and to my suprise me and a couple buddies run into a bobcat on hole 10 of the beaver he was coming off of hole 13 fairway. He was a big one too, i was near the teepad he was about halfway up the fairway in the shade. He took off when one of us threw our drive to scare him off. So if you take your pet with you be on the lookout on the backside of the beaver. What else can you say 2 great courses and just awesome wildlife. See ya at the saturday minis.

Dalton Seaboldt in the playoff bested 40+ golfers at The ONE DISC ace race over Cedar Hill. It was nice to give someone i've known for pretty much his whole life the Grand Prize. Way to go Dalton!

YES, if it crushes a basket!

"Has anyone seen hole #2 Coyote in the last few days. "

I played out there yesterday...it is definitely cleared out. The big huge downed tree trunk behind the basket is gone and the whole area is cleared out...the basket is bent and leaning. There are a couple of sweet spots for new pin positions...one straight and long behind a big tree, and then further right of the current pin. It is weird...you can see straight to the basket from the pad now. Totally changed the look and feel of that hole.

#7 coyote had a new (?) pin position too, to the right and a little shorter of the older one.

#17 beaver was short...hadn't seen that in a long time.

bslamoreaux
Jan 19 2008, 11:34 PM
OK, I'll break the silence.

First, congrats to Nolan for hitting the ace in todays mini. Hole 2 (Beaver) for $277.....

Now, hole 2 Coyote. The city was nice enough to help with some clearing on hole 2 Coyote this past week. Unfortunately, their emplyees got a little excited and cleared it out with a dozer. Yes the basket was damaged during the process. The plan was for the city to clear out the area BEHIND the basket. They actually cleared out a large area all around the basket. So, I went out Thursday (sinus infection and all) and met with the city and set stakes in the ground. They should be out there on Monday or Tuesday (weather permitting) to make it right.

When this is done, the hole will be awesome. 250 - 270' to an opening of roughly 60 feet then back into the thick of it for another 100'. The new, very large opening will be seeded with grass seed as soon as the weather warrants it. When the happens, I'll close the hole for a few weeks for the seed to take.

So, this coming Saturday is a work day. I'll be out at the course by 9:00 or so to complete this hole, install the new sleeve on 9 (Beaver) and maybe extend hole 10 (Coyote) and maybe begin working on the new hole 6 (Beaver)......

Please call me if you can be there to help.

972-998-1311.

Thanks,
Brian

P.S. Oh, new locks have made it easier to move some of the baskets around......

"John, can you post something for me?

The storms in Cedar Hill yesterday knocked down the power lines running along Texas Plume road making the park inaccessible. While the possibility exists that Texas Plume Road MAY be cleared from the Lake Ridge side today, the city is asking that disc golfers/park users avoid the area this weekend while TXU continues working in and around the park. They believe that the highway 67 side will not be cleared until the middle of next week. Obviously, there is no mini this weekend in Cedar Hill."

I just watched the coverage of the lead card at the 2010 Dynamic Discs Cedar Hill Open (http://www.pdga.com/videos/2010-cedar-hill-open-lead-card), and the Beaver DGC at Lester Lorch Park looks really, really nice! I've been to Houston about a half-dozen times and made it out to Austin once, but other than Circle R Ranch & Moody's, I didn't think much of Texas disc golf courses. However, after watching the video of this course, I am really hoping to make it down to the DFW area sometime in the near future to play it...looks like a simply sublime mix of bombers & wooded holes, with a variety of shots required.

The Beaver course is nice! I had the pleasure of experiencing that course a couple of years ago when I was home visiting family. I have yet to play the Coyote course, but I hear it's fun, too (tight and woodsy).

If you do make it to DFW, you also need to play Turner Park in Grand Prairie and Veterans Park in Arlington. Turner because it's a really good design amongst rolling hills, grassy fairways and native trees. Veterans because that course was the **** back in the day and that's where I first learned to throw bevel-edged plastic twenty years ago! :D

Top of my wish list for Dallas area courses is in Rockwall (a John Houck design).
