Yes there is a club. Has been since before the course opened.

For some reasons there are usually only Open and Pro Masters at the mini. No Am's to speak of. Pro is $10 (including Ace Pot) and Master's is $7 (including Ace Pot). The Ace Pot is over $200 right now.

Hope to see you out there.

I went down to the course last night for a round and to see if it suffered any major damage or flooding from the 10+ inches of rain over the weekend. I was surprised to see no flooding and only minor damage. Yes, even holes 5 - 7 and 18 are flood free. I played them without tracking mud onto the tee pads. A few trees are laying down but nothing to serious. The beaver pond is full again! Hole 9 is now pretty scary. I had casuals asking me to move the basket back to the other position. I didn't. Let's see how it plays for a while.

Cedar Hill needs your help......

The city has been in contact with me and they are more than a little worried about the amount of trash they are seeing in the park lately.

So, as you play these great courses on that amazing property, I'd appreciate it if you could pick up a little trash along the way. I know that many of you already do this and that the main perps responsible for the bulk of the trash don't read this board.

The city is aware that some of the trash cans are full and they will have someone out to empty them soon. In addition, I am going to try to bring down three more cans this afternoon. Hopefully this will help.

I will be out there this afternoon walking the courses with trash bags in case anyone wants to help. Maybe I can bribe a couple of casual players with plastic to help.

Thanks for your time and now back to regularly scheduled program....

Brian

P.S. Dont forget the mini on Saturdy at 3:00.

Pizza God
Apr 05 2006, 02:44 PM
Why don't you hand each card a trash bag on Saturdays from now on.

That would help.

But I notice that if you have trash cans on every tee pad, there is less trash on the course.

I hate litterbugs.

bslamoreaux
Apr 06 2006, 03:31 PM
So, I get down to the park last night and notice the majority of the problem. It would appear that a trash can in the parking lot was knocked over and trash had blown all over the 5th and 6th fairways. To complicate things, the mowers went out yesterday and cut it all up into a million pieces making it look even worse. Rodney Copenhaver was nice enough to play a very casual round on the Coyote course and help me pick up trash along the way. Thanks Rodney.

I dont understand why people throw their trash deep into the woods instead of dropping it into the trash can right by the tee pad. I left a little blood yesterday retrieving some of those cans and bottles.

I had already considered the use of trash bags during the minis. Looks like I might need to start doing that.

FYI, I just found out that the city has planned an event at Lorch Park and it's not Disc Golf...

"Texas Junior Angler is Sunday, April 9 from 1 4 PM at Lorch Park. If the weather is good, Master Lloyd Ploeger will be there to provide a Karate Demonstration."

This means lots of city people and lots of families and kids. Please be careful if you insist on playing down there on Sunday. The last thing we need is to have a little kid get knocked upside the head by a disc with a Karate Master on the property.

Cool! I hadn't seen any rattlesnakes for a while out there. Glad to hear they are still around.

Folks, this is a nature preserve. As far as Dallas County is concerned, the animals have more rights than we do. Please be on the lookout for snakes, coyotes, bobcats and the like. Enjoy the sights and sounds, but do not hurt or kill the animals. We are very lucky to have such a wonderful place to visit and enjoy.

Thanks for the reminder BigEasyE..... Hey, was he by the pad, the basket or out in the fariway?

he was in the fairway on 10 about 15 feet from the evergreen on the left side close to the mouth of the fairway leading to the bucket. Also I was out there yesterday which was nice and that busted tree on the right side of hole 10 had fallen down, don't know if that was mother nature or some casual that knocked it down. Had I had some tools in the car or a number to let someone know I would have been happy to have dealt with it to get it out of the fairway.

Alright, I made some changes to the Coyote course last night.

Baskets 1, 5, 6, 16 and 17 have all been moved short. Thought it would be fun to add a few more ace runs before this weekends mini. Ok, so the ace pot is only $60 right now, but its still fun to hear chains from the tee pad.

I moved 5 short and went to the pad and threw my new ESP Buzzz. I watched it sail down the perfect line and nail the pan dead center and drop to the ground. Another almost ace but it was nice to watch it travel the line.

See everyone for sign-ups by 2:45 so we can tee at 3:00.

Later,
Brian

Oh, for some reason, people seem to enjoy tearing the number plates off the tops of the baskets. So, for any new people at the park, sorry if you cant tell what you are shooting at. The city just replaced the kiosk plexi-glass (that someone threw a rock through) and then installed a map box which I filled up with course maps. That should help you get around the park. Tee signs are in the final design stages and should be installed before the Texas 10 in August. Of course, if people start damaging those too, the city might not finish installing them all (just like they almost didnt finish the tee pads).

Eric, I didn't see this message. Sorry.

I wanted to move some baskets on the Beaver but they wouldn't unlock for me. When I get some time, I'll treat the locks and move a few baskets. The city is aware of the sleeve damage on 9. Until they replace it, the basket will be staying put. We have never used the alternate sleeves on holes 3 and 4 and I'd like to soon.

Once the Texas 10 is over, I'm going back to work on a few holes to make some more alternate positions. I'll put the word out before I start again and possibly bribe some people with adult beverages for assistance.

sandalman
Aug 17 2006, 11:25 AM
yeah thats an interesting change. places a premium on making a better tee shot. it will still be interesting to see how it affects score distribution. i suspect at pro levels, #8 had a roughly even 2-3 split, with a few 4's thrown in just because. the new position might not be as birdie-able, but if that is balanced by more 4's it scould end up being a better design. i'm looking forward to seeing it in action.

countryassevan
Aug 17 2006, 12:24 PM
especially for us lefties besides I'm no pro and usually can birdie it no problem so with it in the new position I also agree the distribution should change across the board because even an Am player should still be able to come off the hole with a par but I still think the pros will like the placement because there are still some real good local lines that with the right shot should come out with a few birds

So who is coming out for the Texas 10 this weekend in Cedar Hill?

A ton of work has been going on at the park and the place looks great!

Thanks to Juli, Kendall, John B. and Evan for the help they have provided over the last couple of weeks.

The tee signs are in! And they are awesome. They are only about three feet tall but have number plates on top that are color coded to match the number plates on the baskets (Red on the Beaver and Orange on the Coyote) and have a lexan cover over the hole map. I was able to install 8 or 9 signs before I ran out of sunlight yesterday. The signs look really good and we will eventually have much nicer hole maps. They ones being used right now I did in power point and will only work for a short time.

Ive arranged for extra trash cans and a portable toilet or two to be delivered on Friday.

Anyway, Ill be out there all day Friday getting the courses ready for Saturday.

Later,

Was hole 5 (Coyote) long or short then? There is a pin at 225 and another at 300 with a dogleg right. I cant remember if that was there for the Big Show or not. Other than that, no additional pin placements to report.

Does everyone like Coyote hole 1 in the short or the long better? Personally, I like the short position better.

We will have ice and water on the course so dont let the heat be a factor. Come on out and enjoy the day.

Please email or PM me if you plan on attending the ONE disc ace race at Lorch Park in Cedar Hill on Saturday 9/23.

You can start anytime between 2pm and 3pm. You'll throw 36 very short holes with the new Discraft prototype mid range disc with one goal in mind.....to throw ACES.

I wanted to use all 36 holes but it seems that the participants that have already signed up want to play a loop of holes so that they can have redemption shots, which will increase their chances of throwing an ace.

anyone have info about the (house?) fire that happened just off the course last weekend? We weren't sure exactly what burned, but it was close and it was big. We heard sirens as we were throwing holes 13 and 14 on the coyote course, and by hole 15 we could see a *lot* of smoke. It appeared to be coming from one of the houses that backs up to hole 11 (or somewhere in there) on the coyote. If that is what in fact burned... it must have caught fire jsut a few minutes after we passed through that part of the course. I briefly looked through the local papers' websites but couldn't find anything. Does anyone know what happened?

I've been doing my home work and reading all of the PDGA Documents but have not had the time to work with Gary on a date yet. CHDGA will be hosting it's own tournament this coming year. I just dont know when yet.

No. Just an ideal for CH. I think a doubles event there would draw a lot of people. Besides, CH needs to do something for CH for a change. A lot of cash has been made by others using the facility, and i think it's time for CH to earn some for itself.

my_hero
Dec 07 2006, 10:44 AM
I'm guilty of making some cash out there too. You see, i found SeaHorse's redskins disc on hole #2 of the Coyote. I had every intention on returning it to my friend Chris. Well, right before i arrived at my car a group of 5 golfers stopped me and started asking questions about disc dynamics. I gladly offered some advice and knowledge about disc angles and speed, using the redskin disc as the model. Once these 5 guys saw the disc, each of them pulled out a $20 and offered me $100 for it. I quickly sold it to them and then asked why did you offer so much? They said four words "Die Hard Cowboy Fans!" One of them quickly ran over to the woods, grabbed some kindling, started a small fire in the parking lot, and gently tossed the disc into the flame. Now it's just a big blob of melted @#$%. They tossed into the woods near #18's basket(beaver). Sorry Chris. I couldn't resist the offer. :p

I'm guilty of making some cash out there too. You see, i found SeaHorse's redskins disc on hole #2 of the Coyote. I had every intention on returning it to my friend Chris. Is there still a Saturday mini this weekend at 3:00?

As an am player, will I just be donating to the open field or do a reasonable number of am players show up?

I'll be running it this Saturday, sign up at 2:30, start at 3. There is usually no am field at CH.

I'll be there regardless of the field. Maybe my luck will change with 5 pieces of darkside plastic in my bag. :D

I'm open to suggestions on getting more AM's to play CH. I've got a truck full of plastic yet we end up playing only for cash each week.

Thanks for running it this week John.

What is the entry fee and which course do you use for the mini (or does it rotate)?

I would bet that a number of people don't know about the minis, gotta get the word out somehow.

Also, I'll be out at the course tomorrow from 10:00 until 2:00 working on hole 13 Beaver in case anyone wants to help. I might also try to work on a few other spots as well (time permitting).

Brian..is the changed pin placement on the beaver (#13?? - can't find the post)..at the bottom of the hill and futher??

this is the hole you said still has 2 baskets currently..

We are coming out there next Friday..so should I be able to expect that is where the buckets will be for the tourney?

from a month or two ago.....

i found SeaHorse's redskins disc on hole #2 of the Coyote. They said four words "Die Hard Cowboy Fans!" Yes. Hole 13 on the beaver has two baskets right now. The regular position will not used during the event. The new basket will be the one in play. This new position is now 280' around the base of the hole that the basket has always been on. I am going out to the park this afternoon to possibly remove the regular basket.

I might also move hole 7 Beaver to the new position as well.

No other pin changes are planned before the tournament.

The basket positions you see (for the entire course) by the time the mini starts on Saturday will be the positions used for The Big Show.

Brian,

I got to play this morning and #13 is great where it is now...it pretty much forces you to go down the middle, but actually gives you more of a possibility for birdie if you hit that right gap just right with a forehand.

Where in the world is the alternate for #7? I looked all over that fairway for another sleeve, and can't fathom where another basket could go. I really like that hole, so hopefully it doesn't make it drastically shorter.

BTW the Coyote round was going slow and I was at even heading into "birdie alley" as I like to call 13-18, where I do most of my damage. Wanting to shoot -4, I told myself just birdie 4 of the 6. I ended up doing it the hard way, carding 2's on 13-15, 4'd 16, then 2'd 17 & 18. I always try to make life as hard as possible.

The courses weren't all that muddy, except for the teepad on 6 Beaver. I had to throw from the side. But the course looks great. I can't wait to play in the event.

[crossing fingers for good weather]

I'm going to get with Timmy Gill and see if i film at CH if DiscgolfTV will host the footage. I'm sure they will. I'm just not sure what they'll do with the rodent porn footage.
