Has anyone seen the new course in Cat Hollow subdivision, Round Rock, TX. It appears to be wrapped around a community. All baskets are mach 3s. Nice creek and rolling hills. I havent played it but looking to buy a house in the neighborhood.
Where is Cat Hollow, for those of us not familiar with the lay of the land in RR?
9 or 18?

Is is nice? Is it private? If it is nice and private, is there any chance that Austin riff-raff can play?

I seem to remember this new course being discussed on some other thread....and that it was in one of the parks there. I don't see how it couldn't be a public course if its in a public park. The community wasn't "gated" or anything when I lived there. And, for the record, the bulk of Cat Hollow housing that I remember wasn't anything at all like that house pictured in the link posted previously...don't be fooled into thinking its a super ritzy neighborhood....nice yes....but not THAT nice. :D
However....seeing as how the baskets sorta cropped up out of nowhere and the person or persons responsible haven't said much to the Austin Metro area disc golfers as a whole as to its existence or anything of the sort......makes me wonder.

This sounds like the course I designed in Cat Hollow, except that it has DISCatchers, and there isn't a creek (except maybe when there's lots of rain), and it's wrapped up by homes on both sides.
I've been in touch with the parks department, and as far as I know, it's not quite ready for play, so I haven't announced anything yet. I'll give them a call and see what I can find out.
The course I'm thinking of is 18 holes. It's pretty short and tight for the most part with lots of cedars, but it opens up pretty nicely on a few holes. It's kind of got a Rivery feel.
Since the property is about half a mile long by about 80 yards wide, with homes on both sides and a hike and bike trial, the design was quite a challenge. But it turned out to be pretty varied, challenging, and fun -- I think people will enjoy it. The parks department did a tremendous job building greens into the hillsides -- players will definitely enjoy those.
I'll report back when I know more.
JP and I have been mailing each other about this course, he lives out there. I have heard that there is a map and scorecard available on-line. Can't find one anywhere, anyone have any info on this?

I have played the Brushy Creek course and was given a score card map by some players who said they got it off of line. There has already been a couple of aces on the short holes but not by me, damit jim. I have emailed the Brushy Creek MUD and received no response. It appears they have a lot of work to do and are going to add fill to a lot more basket areas, or the baskets are going about 10" to high. # 11 basket is not in and #12 tee I could not find. Tees are crushed limestone, some still in a pile, and most greens are limestone. I describe it as a combination of Oak Hill and flood plain golf. Still a lot of brush and debris to clean up. JP

I had a opportunity to go back and look at the course after the first post. To clear up some of my original post here is my latest observation. The baskets are not mach 3s and the creek previously mentioned has no water. The plot i plan to purchase has three pins in the back yard and i counted at least 10 more from the road. I saw that it was designed by John. Is this the same John who designed mary moore and oak hill? If so, I am definately moving. I am planning to meet some of my friends on Saturday to test the course so if any one else wants to join, that would be great. Being that it is a major deciding factor in purchasing the house, I must test it out. Thanks for all the comments.

Smitty,
I looked all over the Brushy Creek MUD web site for the course map and could not find it, www.brushymud.com. (http://www.brushymud.com.) I would call them to see about getting a map so you can find the layout. And that is John 'The Man' Houck. JP

I went out and played this course yesterday. The holes I did play were thoroughly enjoyable. Not a bad hole on the course. The elevated greens on the birdie holes make it very interesting, especially if there were any wind. I couldn't figure out how hole 5 is intended to be played. The box was marked, and there was a basket marked 5, but it seemed to cross another fairway. Couldn't find 11 teepad. It's like a cross between rivery and bart, but nothing over 380-400 feet from what I could tell. Looking forward to playing the finished product. When will the product be finished???

thank you. ok. based on the map I did play the correct # 5. That hole is around 450-500 feet. 11 did not have a basket and i couldn't find the tee box for 6, but could have been looking in the wrong place. wow. this is a sweet course. nice job once again mr. houck.

Thanks, Michael. Great to hear that people are enjoying the course.
The design was quite a challenge, with it being so narrow and so close to trails and houses and having to stay will away from the multi-storied concrete culverts. But I was happy with how it turned out, and the parks people have done an outstanding job so far.
There's a little trail to the #6 tee, or at least close to there, but it may not be marked yet. There was some confusion on whether #11 basket was in a home lot or not, and we've had to move it twice now. I was trying to keep it hidden from the #5 tee, but that may not be possible.
As for when everything will be done, I still haven't heard, but I'll let you know.

I have the utmost respect for authority. I couldn't imagine playing a round of disc golf with a bunch of heathens with their shirts untucked. Guess I'll know what it's like when I play masters......
Played Cat Hollow today. Similar version of Kid's WB. It may have potential when it's not muddy, the tee boxes don't have boulders or tee signs in the middle of them and it has a decent amount of play. I don't want to sound harsh because the course is so young and it's obvious that someone has busted their butts out there. The elevated greens are very cool. I like the tee boxes with gravel, they just need a little love and time. Exactly how did the greens come to life? Those will look good soon. Very short but all courses have their place in life.
Finally had a chance to play this one...Fun course! The tee-boxes are still in the fetus stage, hope they grow up soon! Some really cool holes...Wish I had printed out the map before I went out, but some groups playing put me in the right direction. #11 was in, and has a sweet elevated tee-box...Wish I woulda parked that one. This is one of the closest courses to me, so maybe I can start some dubs up out there or something...

Hey. Played this course today. Kudos to John H. Great layout! Risk/reward - birdie/bogie - a real shooter's (as opposed to heaver's) course. A chance for this noodle arm to win! One thing though - and I hate to sound like Grandma - but every teebox was littered with beer cans and bottles. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of drinking and driving (with a Valk only), but let's keep the course (and all other courses) clean. I know I'm preaching to the choir, and the litterbugs probably don't read these posts, but it's an issue we all need to be sensative about. (Grandma: "don't end a sentence with a preposition")

Next week there will be no splitting. All ties will be played off.....THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!! :shocked
up to the players, will discuss next week before we start

ctp=1/2 ace pot for the day , the rest should carry over to the progressive ace pot.this what you have in mind? **** c-ware that cat attack looked bad!!!!

Jun 25 2004, 10:07 AM
that is what I was thinking. I think if you cant get the ace during the round than you dont deserve it all anyways. Uh Martin I think splitting or playing it off is up to the people tied. but then again its your show do what you want.
cat scratches not too bad, :D
three 14's and I heard of at least one or two missed putts...
How long will this record stick? I think it will be broken Thursday. 15 maybe a 16... :p

Great news! Ed & Laura Coffey from Round Rock and Patty Justice from Waterloo all went to last night's board meeting of the Brushy Creek Municapal Utility District to convince them to let us do the Charity Marathon here at the Cat Hollow course (the MUD is in charge of the park).
This will be a combined effort by Double R Disc Club and Waterloo Disc Golf Club. It will be on Saturday July 17th, from early in the morning until dark. Both clubs will be on hand taking care of things and raising money for a great cause at a great new course.
More details about the Charity Marathon will be available as we get them worked out, including times, possible minis during the event, etc.

**** your a grouchy [*****] .go back to sleep!
I just recently started working up at wells branch and mopac, and I've been dying to check out Cat Hollow. It sounds SWEET. I think I'm going to try and head out there today after work. If anyones going to be out there hopefully I'll see ya around. I can't wait to get me some of the kitty.
Ok I played and really liked the course, but I played like crap(what a surprise). Only one birdie on the day and I know I ended up double digits. I am going to have to get revenge soon. Looks like this really was a challenge for John. Great work as usual and keep those courses coming.
One other thing I can't belive no one has made the obvious(to me at least) comparison to searight. Scores seem comprable and mix of short and long holes is about right, also the areas that are thickly wooded remind me of searight also. I can maybe see a little Oak Hill there too as someone pointed out. Just some random thoughts.

Aug 21 2004, 03:11 PM
some what similar, I suppose.what time did you play yesterday? both courses fairly easy.definately potential for some big scores at both courses.
I get off at 5 so I ended up there around 5:30 I think. Joined up with a threesome that had just arrived. I think I'm going to try and go out today again after I get off. It's really not to far from work.
