john, do you know the format yet?

courses, layouts, what order?

johnbiscoe
Aug 16 2004, 09:10 AM
tentative order of play/layouts (subject to change depending on actual numbers/hurricanes,etc):
pros- grange sunny, hawk hollow, party, loriella, grange dark
ams- grange dark, loriella, party, hawk hollow, grange sunny

hawk hollow will have some shortened tees for divisions below men's adv.

loriella will be a mix of short and long.

numbers are roughly:
g sunny 5000 ft, wcp 48
g dark 5400 ft wcp 53
loriella @6800 ft wcp 54?
hawk hollow 8000 ft wcp 61

this mix of courses should test everything you've got.

Aug 16 2004, 08:01 PM
Eddie OG, it was nice to meet ya. I put so many faces with message board names that it was hard to keep 'em all straight, but I think I did a fairly good job of it.

This was so much fun, maybe we should do it once a month instead of annually. :)

Nice to meet you too Rev. Donnie I was hurt and played pretty badly. I have to work this weekend so I cant play FDCs. I may play the pro weekend. My next tournies after that will be Am Nationals and ECU Open.

Go to the RADL webpage (http://www.radl.biz) for more info on FDCs, both pro and am.

booked my airline tix last night...i'll be returning to virginia!!!
quick course question...i see that you have loriella 6300 ft layout...is that the shorter config, long config or a mixture of the 2...i really liked the long course and hope to play it again and i'm really looking forward to john's course which i only saw as a dream last year("look out across that field...that's where my course will be")
see everyone soon.....
by the way hysell still owes me 20 from last year :D

Chris Hysell
Aug 19 2004, 10:13 PM
20 what? There was never an official bet. Please make one. Please.

Aug 19 2004, 10:28 PM
Sorry to here you got hurt eddie. Hope you get to play this weekend. The Georgia state tourny is the same weekend as the pros. Now that i live over here in the hills that is closer. Good luck at the Am Nationals, tobaggan is a very tough course. I played last year, and all I can say is stay in the fairway. The elevation changes are outrageous. Hope to catch up with you soon. I am going to play the Sneeky pete, but it is the same weekend as the Nationals. Later Murphy
TNT rules.

keithjohnson

20 what? There was never an official bet. Please make one. Please.

ok then UN-offically you owe me 20.... :D

OFFICIALLY i will wager 20 on our overall score heads up(not counting tiki) provided you are playing masters division as i am and you hav the advantage of playing these courses a few times a year and i'll have never thrown a disc at john's course until the friday before the event
which begs the next question of is there dubs on friday and if so where??

by the way johns did say a mixture at loriella but i was curious which holes would be short and which long....17 needs to be long for sure...and 1 also...that was a killer tunnel shot(to a wide open basket)and 6 back in the fenced area....3 was good also..long tree tunnel

hell.... just let me set the pins when i get there...i'll mix them up good and make it challenging for everyone and tough on myself...i only birdied 17 long(it was the highlight of the knocking myself of last cash by 1 stroke the final round)

that was having NEVER seen any of the courses before hysell....now they are etched into my memory...
i've been playing the 3 courses i played once in my head all day today....the 20 is MINE!!!!

FEAR ME!!!

johnbiscoe
Aug 21 2004, 10:27 AM
loriella will be a mix of mostly long, some short. short tees will be played on 2 (with usdgc ob), 4,5,13, possibly 7. int/rec/ladies adv divisions will likely play 11 short too to eliminate the pond carry. should be plenty of gators either way.

keithjohnson
Aug 22 2004, 02:20 AM
it looks like everyone i asked for long is going to be long so i like it already...also you promised us the "keyhole" on 2 last year and never did it,4,5,possibly seven(that hole is squirrely either tee position)and 13 short tees doesn't make things much different from the longer tees so i'm ok with them

ok....now that i know the loriella layout i just need to see hh course and from everyone's raving about it on the board,it sounds like i will love it also...
john...are there maps of hh that are downloadable or scanable so i can see how it is laid out??

see you soon...keith

Thank you Mike Bonday for running a great tournament! Also thanks to Biscoe and the BRDGC who helped out. This was my shortest drive to a PDGA event in my career (~65min). :D Wohooo!

Come play Walnut Creek in the fall... The foliage is spectacular! The course is one of the Top 3 Public courses in VA in my opinion. Some of the most beautiful and challenging holes in VA! Thanks to those who made this course happen. I'm playing Green County course tomorrow and I can't wait!

Is there a list of Ice Bowl dates yet? I'm anxious to pick a date for the 2nd annual at Peaks View Park in Lynchburg! I'm also going to run a Ice Bowl at Appomattox as a sort of "grand opening."
I don't want to conflict with any Ice Bowls within a certain radius. Courses that have run IBs in the past that to come to mind are: Harrisonburg, Newport News, Spotsy, Stephens City, Mooky's Cup/High Point, Danville, etc...
Any knowledge would be much appreciated.

Oct 28 2004, 03:10 PM
I hit it every time I am down in Va Ba about once every summer, it is only 20 minutes from the ocean front. It is a shortish, flat, wooded, and well worn course with concrete tees, old baskets, mounted pretty low to the ground. The chains are super thick and catch well with a muffled thud. You should be about 6 to 8 downish from the original tees, but from the longer tees put in a few years ago par is a decent round. They even added a couple of extra X holes too I believe. Definately worth checking out if you are in the area. I still have not been to the Newport News course but hear a lot of good reviews....

I get to that course pretty regularly (it is one of my favorites) as I drive by it as I commute back and forth and I can tell everyone that the guys up there are working hard as always on the course and it is looking great (do you think I could have made that run-on sentence any more awkward?).

According to weather.com, the forecast for Saturday is 60 and sunny. The course is in great shape thanks to Jeff, Rusty, and the Sherando regulars.

We'll be playing the long tournament-only course in round two - one of only a couple times a year the course is set up this way - so come on out Saturday morning, sign up, and play!

Yes i think i am goping to play masters next year. I have enough plastic and there is NO presure on me to win. I might cash if i have 2 perfect days in a tournament. I would refuse the cash though. I want to play in a am worlds as a adv master and i will be back for the MAAC! i think i for got how to have fun over the summer after winning some tournaments. now that i am playing a happy-go-lucky style againi am shooting par or better .

Congradulations Whorley,
I was on my way saturday morning, not to sherando but to stanton for a bed and breakfast. It was me and my wifes 8year wedding anniversary. On interstate 64 mile marker 241 right at williamsburg ,traffic had comming over a hill I had enough braking distance to avoid hitting anyone and just after we stopped I look up in my rear veiw mirror, then SLAM this guy had justv rear ended me at 55 to 60 mph.He hit so hard it knocked my foot off the brake to the accelorator.I thought the impact jammed my gas throttle stuck. So I take off peeling wheels missing every car on the road by the grace of god. When I realized my foot was on the accelorator,I took it off mad it to the right shoulder.Witnesses said when the truck hit me the [*****] end of the truck was about 4 foot off the ground. My wife and I walked away with no visible injurys, but the pain in my neck and back are really starting bother me.So we spend our 8 th year wedding anniversary on the side of an interstate for a couple of hours and in the emergency room for the same.Depending on how I feel in a couple of days wiil determin if I play this weekend..

Just another (and last) reminder that I am hosting a 30 person NL hold 'em poker tournament on November 20th (saturday, 3pm)....

$40 to enter. Gets you 850 in chips. $20 rebuy (only once) if you get knocked out during the first two blind intervals (90 minutes)...

Top 6 get paid...with a full field of 30, first place is usually over $400 and 2nd place is around $300...payout depends on the final purse size (depending on the number of rebuys)...

So far there are already quite a few golfers who will be there:

myself
tommy d.
john b.
ben b.
ted z.

It is filling fast. Let me know if you want in or if you want more details..PM me or email me (rrturner48@yahoo.com)

hi all,
just a heads up that the spotsy disc golf club will be holding a
tournament to benefit toys for tots at loriella park saturday 12/10.
entry fees will be as follows:
pro $20 plus a new toy (suggested value $10)
adv $10 plus a new toy
int/rec/am ladies $5 plus a new toy

tee time will be 10:00.

if you don't bring a toy add $10 to your entry. if you bring a cheesy
toy you will be mocked.

there is special need for toys for kids 2 and under.

further donations happily accepted.

join us for some great disc golf for a great cause.

Who won?

Hey John, Skinner gave me back the trophy. Who should I give it to?

Nov 16 2004, 08:53 PM
I have not seen any scores for NN.

When Don Wetzel finalizes scores we will post results.
Bring the trophy to me for engraving.
Awards and prizes will be given out at Loriella ODDS opener in March.

Bring it to The Grange for the Thanksgiving monthly if you are going.

The Grange will have Monthly on Saturday 11/27. Two rounds. Tee at 10 AM.
History of this monthly is a pot luck lunch where everyone brings extra food and drink to share.

The following Sunday Redskins beat Steelers in one of the biggest upsets of the year.

That's too optimistic, Ted. I predict the same score 10-7. The defense will score a touchdown and set up the field goal with a red zone fumble recovery. Furthermore, I predict that Ramsey will leave the game due to injury with less than 2:00 left and Brunell will come in to throw an interception for touchdown. The game will end with a James Thrash onside kick recovery.

The Piedmont DGC and Hill Billy Huckers are proud to announce Winter League 2005. The league will consist of eight one-day tournaments that run on Saturdays from December 12 through February 26. WL2005 will showcase the courses of Western Virginia including Elk Creek DGC in Appomattox, Peaks View Park in Lynchburg, Fishburn Park in Roanoke, Golden Hills in Christiansburg and Timber Ridge DGC in Lowry. The awards ceremony will be held on March 5 at Golden Hills at lunchtime.

WL2005 is a points series with a simple format. Two divisions will be offered (Open and Am). One point will be awarded for entering, one point for each person beaten or tied in the division and the winner of each division gets one bonus point. A players best six finishes may be used in the final results.

Each two-round tournament is a separate function with modest entry fees. A portion of the entry fee at each one-day tournament will be withheld. This money goes toward a trophy that will have the Open and Am division winners names engraved on it, payout for the top four Ams and a Skins Match for the top four Open point leaders to be held at the awards ceremony. Rec and Junior divisions will also be offered at each tournament. Ace Pool will be offered for $1 with every unclaimed prized going towards final payout.

So Whorley, the top 4 pros will "play it off" for the $ in March ? That might be the first ever group to have a gallery up at the Golden Hills.

whorley
Dec 09 2004, 01:19 PM
Yes, the top 4 in Open points will play for lots of money at lunch at Golden Hills on March 5. It will be "Skins Game" format for about 5-6 holes. We will probably set up temp baskets in the open (along with holes 18,1 and 2) so that it will be easy for the gallery to follow.

The Advanced division points leaders will be paid in plastic according to finish.
